Guest Reviews
- Lesley (8/5): Great base, in a lovely environment, provided a very relaxed place for a few nights. - Fabulous location with great views over Rutland Water.
Lovely, private and quiet.
A good place for a couple like us visiting the area and wanting a base to relax in. Overall the property was.good but would benefit from a facelift - decorating throughout and our preference would be for a walk in power shower.
The oven in the kitchen appeared quite old although we didn’t need to use it. The new dishwasher whilst did compact was great.
The lounge soft furniture whilst comfortable was a bit past it’s best.
Whilst we believe improvements could be made I would still recommend Orchard Cottage.
- Tom (6/5): - The location was stunning with incredible views of Rutland water. The place was pleasant with the majority of necessities needed. It was easy to find and access although the key was quite old and hard to turn. Lots of small problems. Very few of the lamps worked due to the bulbs not working, the cutlery was tricky to find, there was only one mug, there were no cereal bowls. These are all little things that on their own don't really matter but add them all up and it creates a problem.
Small things that can be easily solved to make the stay better.
- Guest (9/5): Peaceful & comfortable - Beautiful location & so peaceful,very cosy cottage.
- Hannah (10/5): -
- Lindsay (9/5): Perfect weekend getaway - Stunning location, full of character.
- Lesley (6/5): A bit more attention to detail would have improved our experience of what is a lovely property. - Fantastic location. Great views. Easy parking. Nicely furnished. Nice books. No cutlery. Unable to easily open balcony doors making the lounge excessively hot, given the huge windows. No chairs to sit on balcony. Not enough towels. Very small second bedroom. Opaque glass in bathroom would have enabled us to open the window. Many lights/lamps did not work. Handwritten TV instructions were illegible. Once I have become irritated by a number of things, you’ve lost me.
- Ursula (10/5): - A spectacular location and view. Such a beautiful cottage.
- Graham (6/5): Pleasant -
- Claire (6/5): Seemed pricy for the standard of the accommodation - The property had beautiful views & had very comfortable beds & furniture .
Very welcoming & friendly owner. It would have been good to have been given a towel each not per couple to share.
For the cost it would have been good to have had been provided a starter pack of a few essentials - milk, butter, small loaf of bread etc. Which we had all experienced in other rentals.
The property seemed somewhat tired & in need of a refresh for the amount we paid.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Christine (8/5): Very good -
- Gill (8/5): Very good - very nice location. key collection and communication with hosts excellent. clean and tidy. comfortable beds. crockery and glassware limited

- Ian (10/5): Perfect! - Stunning location
- Lisa (9/5): Room with a stunning view - Only one patio door would fully open... a minor gripe, really.
The view was stunning from lounge, and I simply sat for hours watching it as the night drew in and sun set. The cottage is quaint with many lovely traditional features and furniture.
The grounds are stunning for a little wander and property, a stones throw from shore path. I'm definitely coming back.
Very handy for walking around the Rutland waters.
Thank you for a lovely stay with my daughter and mum.
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional - Great cottage location and facilities. Very comfy beds! Nothing not to.like!
- Lauren (7/5): Stunning location and a perfect base for lovely dog walks around Rutland Water. - Incredible location and views. The facilities could do with updating. The tv, cooker, microwave all very old but they were functional, so it didn’t impact us too much.
- Crabb (1/5): Orchard cottage - Awful .Owner was rude and the cottage was terribly unclean Absolutely terrible , cooker still had food in , mouse droppings under bed , the place was disgusting. Don't stay here
- Lizzie (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage had it all- beautiful surroundings, great facilities like effective heating and a fully equipped kitchen. We were really comfortable there and will definitely be back.
- Cynthia (9/5): Magical Winter Sunset - The whole experience was utterly delightful ,the cottage is gloriously situated, in the best position we saw all around the water. The winter sunset 🌇 was magical. Shall certainly return .Perfect for our little dog too . Nothing, although we had a trouble with the TV,and failed to work the microwave clearer instructions would be appreciated but then we are pretty useless on the technology front !
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pam (8/5): Very good -
- Christine (9/5): Superb - Lovely cottage in a stunning location. It was just perfect for what we needed - a quiet place for a long overdue catch up. We will be back! The sofas are a little tired but this didn't ruin our enjoyment at all.
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional - Orchard Cottage is the perfect holiday stay. Views are amazing and like a home from home. So comfy and cosy. The owner made us so welcome, and we will definitely return.
