Guest Reviews

- Kathleen (8/5): A Very Pleasant Stay - The location facing the sea is super. It also sits among embassy row and is close to the airport. It was a great spot for running along with many other runners. In the morning you can experience the city waking up, with vendors setting up early, or on Sunday with church services that are so full with parishioners they flow into the streets and you can listen to the hymns because everyone is singing. The restaurant is open air and facing the sea and the food was fresh and prepared well. Like most hotels in Southeast Asia the shower water was cooler than I would like. The hotel is great, but remember you are in Dili and Timor Leste is a very poor country, so don't expect the Ritz.
- Michael (9/5): - Excellent facilities and staff.

- Caity (10/5): - Had a great stay at Hotel Esplanada, will definitely be back on my next trip. Thanks team!
- Gianpaolo (8/5): Good hotel with good food - Kindness of the staff and good food Some bedsheets were not completely white
- Michael (10/5): Highly recommend. Will stay again when in Dili - locations was great. right across from the beach. Microlet passes by which was handy for getting around town. Pool was fantastic for cooling down after a few big days wondering Dili in the heat. The food in the upstairs restaurant was great every time. it was very relaxing place to stay nothing
- cherrell (9/5): A great location on the beach and an attractive setting built around a pool and gardens - It's a lovely location on the beach. Really nice to sit in the upstairs restaurant as the sun sets, for a drink or meal, and watch the kids swim and the seafood bbq's set up for the evening on the beach. Also really nice pool area, with the rooms built around the pool. TV reception wasn't great when I arrived, but management are very receptive and address maintenance issues quickly

- Ally (8/5): Lovely accommodation, peaceful and relaxing with amazing staff - It was a peaceful, relaxing property with lovely staff who were very accommodating and helpful.
- Michał Jarnecki (9/5): Polecam na przyszłość. wiele można tutaj załatwić ! - Znakomite Wszuytko było w porządku

- Zuneera (9/5): -
- Donggyun (9/5): Good for value and very friendly staffs - It offers various programs and located in a perfect location, right in front of the beach. Very helpful and friendly staffs.
- Qing You (8/5): Overall I am satisfied with the stay - The hotel was in a good location, and near to restaurants
- Chloe (9/5): A very nice memory - The staff were very friendly and helpful and there were lovely cats in the garden.
Good breakfast and very good position for the ferry.

- Paige (10/5): Staff was amazing and so ready to help at any point - We was staying in a hotel down the road and was not happy, after being recommended this place by a friend we quickly checked in and couldn’t have been happier with our choice. Nothing
- Michelle (10/5): 2 night stay and would return again. - Great to see vegan options on the menu and plant based milks for breakfast. The location was perfect, central to everything with great views from the restaurant looking out to the ocean. Beautiful tropical setting around the pool and a very friendly staff member “Josh”.
Walking distance to an awesome Balinese day spa straight along the esplanade. Not that we minded paying the $10 fee to be dropped at the airport but we have stayed in other hotels in Dili which offer this as a complementary service.
- Cristina (9/5): - We had 2 stays. The first room wws incredibile The second room could do with a bit of checking of the bathroom.
- Jackie (8/5): -
- Marcin (10/5): - Bardzo, bardzo miły personel Niestety kłopoty z internetem
- Scott (9/5): great value - location and comfy beds bathroom had minor issues but was fixed right away
- Puja (9/5): - The location was a short walk from a few restaurants. It also had a nice view of the beach and was close to the airport. The hotel itself was nice in terms of maintenance and facilities. There was a nice pool. Weird interaction with the driver who picked me up from the airport. The ride should’ve been $10 but he said it was $30. So I gave him $40 and he gave me back $10 (excluding tip). Not til I spoke with the owner that I learned this was incorrect. The driver tried to offer me $10 back when I was leaving (even though it should’ve actually been $20), but the whole interaction left a sour taste in my mouth.

- Michelle (8/5): Great! - We love Esplanada. The pool is fabulous. The food is great. The staff are excellent.
- Lesley (8/5): Very helpful staff comfortable quiet rooms away front the road noise - Lovely courtyard and pool with rooms overlooking the small
Oasis The traffic noise made conversation difficult on the lovely spacious verandah area.
- Jasmina (9/5): Oasis in the heart of Dili - Great location close to the chaotic hubbub of Dili yet felt like a calm oasis within. Beautiful pool and deck area. Restaurant overlooking the ocean and traffic. Night food market right on the doorstep. Would have been nice if more local food was offered on the restaurant menu, but there was plenty nearby.
- david (8/5): Fascinating stay in fascinating country. Wonderful restaurant/bar to people-watch as the sun goes do - location was brilliant and pool to cool off in from the Dili heat Bathroom was a bit dated. But this is Timor Leste
- Teresa (10/5): - Localização Acho caro para a relação qualidade-preço
- Michael (6/5): -
- Kathleen (9/5): Cool, calm oasis. - Beautiful setting…cool and calm.
Great pool area, restaurant and gardens.
Staff lovely , and late checkout created for me.
- Mathilde (10/5): The hotel has a lot of charm, and the garden is beautiful. The staff and manager were very helpful. -
- Janet (9/5): Best place in Dili. It’s not Bali - the standard of all accommodation is not great - plumbing is an issue everywhere you - Pool, good wifi and great cafe and bar to work in. The only thing was booking transport through the hotel was unreliable but someone always came to my rescue.
- David (8/5): Welcome relief - Cool rooms. An air-conditioner that worked. Comfortable beds. Quiet room. Good meals, including complimentary breakfast. Staff were helpful. Pool was closed for maintenance, although we didn't see any maintenance occurring. Restaurant was nice but there was a lot of noise from the road. I suggest sit at the back overlooking the pool.
- Lynn (7/5): Good - The location and friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. On-site pool, bar and restaurant area. Ideal spot to catch up with people. Drinking water in the rooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast is included. I have stayed here in 2017 and 2018. I think it may be a little tired and obviously old plumbing is an issue throughout Timor. I think the food is OK but not as good as in the past.
- Knutsen (7/5): Good - Comfortable room and open air restaurant
- Knutsen (7/5): Good - Comfortable rooms, open air restaurant
- Tanima (8/5): Very good -
- Williams (10/5): Relaxed. Comfortable and an easy entree into Dili. - If you want the Ritz Carlton , stay somewhere else. This is cool cozy, low key and very comfortable. Good location , right on the beach opposite the bbq stalls, not far from shops.
The staff are the best!!! Very friendly and helpful.
The restaurant deck is great and the service there is prompt and the food is delicious - compliments to the chef. Nothing really. Some stuff didn’t work but just ask and they get it fixed.
- Jana (8/5): Very good - Garden with the swimming pool, location, rooms are spacious Hearing neighbouring guests' talks through the wall, only Western style breakfest
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sern (7/5): Good - Good wifi for Timor standards (has a Starlink access). Lovely outdoors area and small pool which was accessible 24 hours! Lovely elevated bar and dining area with beach views. Strong air conditioning. Often would need to get a new wifi code every 2-3 days. Front desk not 24 hours and didn’t have a lot of spare change (e.g. coins to take local taxis). These are relatively small matters though
- Edward (8/5): Comfortable and well located - Central location at the waterfront. Good breakfast, the restaurant, a big deck overlooking the water. Comfortable roman and clean swimming pool.
- Benjamin (7/5): Excellent location - A great location & a nicely set out hotel.
A bit rough around the edges, but the best you’ll get in Dili. It seemed expensive for what the offering is.
- Lisa (7/5): A fair peice to pay for a hotel. Could do with a few cleaners and bleach but still comfortable stay. - Relaxing environment Cleaniness of the shower
- Jacquelyn (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the vibe, and the restaurant. Shower
- Carolyn (8/5): Great option for work or leisure in Dili - Great beachfront location, comfy room that had everything you need, friendly staff, lovely open air bar/restaurant N/a
- Gluyas (9/5): Manager happy and helpful - Friendliness, food and helpfulness.
- Nele (8/5): With a lesser price would be very ok - Garden, swimming pool, restaurant and excellent food. Also very attentive staff Rooms are not worth the price asked, size is ok, but the rest is rather worn and we had some noisy yard next to our room
- Antoanetayk (7/5): Good -
- Anne (8/5): Very good -
- Anselmo (8/5): Very good -
- Tracy (6/5): It's possible to stay elsewhere for less money and to have an equal or better experience. - Overall, the Australian manager and an assistant named Josh were very good. I didn't have much interaction with anyone else. The hotel is located across a busy street from the ocean. It's a walk of about 45 minutes into the city center, obviously closer by taxi. There are a few places for food and beverages that are about a 10 minute walk. The hotel has a restaurant and pub. I visited twice, but it's quite honestly nothing special. The WiFi didn't work for about 24 hours at the end of my stay. The TV didn't really work at all.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Staff at morning breakfast and dinner at Hotel restaurant Location is a 10 to 15 min walk to closest outside restaurants
- Jeff (8/5): Very good - Great Location- Good food and service in restaurant, Clean and comfortable room
- Alan (8/5): Very good -
- Jasmine (8/5): Lovely place to stay - The staff are wonderful, food excellent and it's in a great location with lovely views over the ocean from the bar You can find fancier places for the same price but they don't have the same character
- Anne (8/5): Very good -
- Tobi (10/5): Perfect ! - Best choice in Dili ! Nice swimming pool ! Great location . Friendly and helpful staff .
- Ajit (7/5): Friendly place to stay in -
- Ines (7/5): Good -
- Anne (9/5): Relaxed place in a good location - The pool is nice and the yoga class in the morning.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The furniture and the baathroom need maintenance and renovation.
- Brett (10/5): Fantastic hotel in a prime location at Pantai Kelapa Dili - Had a great stay at Hotel Esplanada and I highly recommend it.
Breakfast was included and there is also a menu you can order from for hot breakfast cook to order - great way to start the day. The local coffee is also lovely and always served with a smile!
Room was very comfortable - looked like it might have just had a paint job - very clean - bed was the perfect level of support - not too soft , not too hard.
The restaurant food menu is extensive - I had everything from a rendang to a lasagne - all of it excellent. They don’t have 24 hour room service but that’s fine as I was full from the meals at breakfast lunch and dinner …
The bar / restaurant is upstairs so there is a view of the water which was lovely and of an evening the friendly locals would wave from the beach as it’s only a stones throw away.
My airport transfer was arranged by the hotel so that made sure I didn’t have to mess around on arrival. A staff member was there with my name so it was nice and easy.
All round I had a lovely stay. Also, I drink a lot of water so having a huge complimentary dispenser of drinking water in my room was fantastic.
One thing I missed was the free 0600am yoga - I’ll do that next time I guess - was too busy relaxing and sleeping in. Unrelated to the hotel - if you are using a Vodafone sim it’s advertised as working in Timor but it doesn’t access internet/data but the hotel has wifi which overcame this.
- Brett (10/5): Can’t wait to go back - Where to start - what a fantastic mini break I just had .Dili reminds me in someways of bali 30 years ago . Friendly locals going about life as best they can. The history of the place is fascinating . Be sure to visit the museum when you are here.
For the hotel it felt like an oasis from the hustle And bustle . Had time for a quick dip in the pool and really
Enjoyed the chilled beer at sunset .
The food is a stand out - seriously
Great quality food at reasonable prices. The room was comfortable , very Good air con and the shower water pressure was excellent . Often in these places getting a good shower is a struggle but was great
Here.
The hotel can arrange a day tour which was interesting , my
Favourite bit was the old jail ruins with a visit to a coffee plantation along the way ; Timor has excellent coffee ! Must try !
Overall a great place to stay ,
Good location , fantastic food and genuine service with lots of smiles.
The pace of Dili is not as hectic as a big city so things can take time
( like at the airport )
But just relax And go with the flow. The pace of things helps you relax ; it’s got a real holiday vibe to it .
Can’t wait to go back … oh the ocean view bar , apart from chilled
Beer on tap also does excellent cocktails … prices are all in USD ( as
Is the entire country ) but very reasonable once you convert it.
The sun can be a bit harsh so remember to bring sunscreen and a hat for lounging by the pool . My stay was too short .
- Edward (7/5): Good -
- Beryl (5/5): The breakfast too basic for the price charged - Location Breakfast
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional - Great facilities and right on the beach Nothingg it was awesome
- Pwannamanit (8/5): Very good -
- Cherrie (8/5): Great tropical relaxing atmosphere. - The Esplanada was good.
I loved the atmosphere, helpfulness and friendliness of the staff.
The pool area was great. The hotel let us store our luggage while we went to Atauro for a few days. Love the restaurant and bar area. They need new toasters for the breakfast as they were old and slow and sometimes didn't work.
The upstairs room was surface clean but everything needs a good scrub, polish etc. Especially the taps etc.
- David (7/5): Good - The staff were always friendly and helpful.
The views of the waterfront from the restaurant were nice, especially at sunset.
The bed was very comfortable. It sometimes felt that the place was a little under-staffed
- Cherrie (8/5): Very good -
- Prue (7/5): Great vibe but needs upgrading - Excellent location, nice relaxed vibe. Pretty tropical gardens. Friendly and helpful staff. Hotel is a bit rickety in places, needs some maintenance. Room was tired. Breakfast was basic. Not great value compared to other Dili hotels.
