Guest Reviews
- Leslie (10/5): Great location and a comfy stay - Location was great as it was a few minutes walk from harbour, museums, bars and restaurants. 15 mins away from St Andrews If there is somone in your party with mobility issues the flat is on the 2nd floor which is not in the description .Also there are no hooks to hang up outdoor jackets.
- Carl (10/5): Brilliant stay and would definitely stay again if back in the area. - Property was very clean and the keys were easy to get. The house was well stocked and the towels/ bedding smelt very clean.
The property was close to the harbour and shops etc. Maybe a coat hook in the hallway would have been useful.
- Durward (9/5): Comfortable, cozy and clean. - It was so close to the town, but sheltered from the elements! The flat was so clean and modern. Very cozy! We loved chilling and watching the rugby in the afternoon (between walks around the town and eating out).
- Chris (10/5): Very well serviced with nice small touches like quality hand wash and good towels and bedding. - Very clean modern and well serviced and heating was excellent with loads of hot water when needed. Nothing a home from home
- Ann (9/5): Lovely stay, very comfortable and perfect location. - Perfect for short break, comfortable, nicely decorated and perfect location. Entrance alleyway from main street a bit shabby.
- Margo (8/5): Very peaceful quiet and comfortable stay - Location was excellent for restaurants shops and walks . The flat was beautifully presented with a nice seaside vibe. Bit more information on the heating system
- Alison (5/5): Group of friends, sept 2025 - Location was excellent. There were quite a few maintenance issues eg. Lock on bathroom door was broken and a plastic bag was put in instead of replacing handle, double room the door handle was hanging on by a few screws and strangely here was no kitchen door so when using the kitchen in the morning it was impossible to be quiet. Also the coffee pot plunger was broken. It was a shame because all these little things left you feeling like the place was under cared for.
- Alison (9/5): Very comfortable and so convenient for all that Anstruther and the other East Neuk villages offer -
- Tom (10/5): Perfect. Brilliant father and son trip. - Great location for exploring the local golf courses. Lovely and clean. Really comfortable and will hopefully return. Nothing. It was really well appointed.
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional - Location Nothing
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Pam (10/5): Cosy well furnished flat - Comfortable warm well furnished flat. Good shower with plenty of hot water. Kitchen had plenty of crockery and utensils to cater for yourself. Close to beach and eateries.
- Christine (9/5): Lovely wee flat, perfect for a short stay. - Location was perfect. The beds were very comfortable. The flat was very clean and had lots of nice little touches (Loved the window seat and the view out to Isle of May). Lovely toiletries and great fluffy towels. Wi fi /TV reception was a wee bit slow but didn't interfere with our enjoyment overall.
- Gaynor (10/5): Perfect flat for a perfect break! -
- Raymond (9/5): Superb -
- Hugh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (8/5): Very good - Great apartment with the Ship Tavern at the end of the road. Shower was amazing, towels were fab, as were beds.

- Janis (10/5): Perfect location perfect home from home . - The property is clean very nicely decorated, well laid out and everything you need in the Kitchen , also a bottle of Presecco & chocolates was a very lovely touch , I would and will
Highly recommend this property & business Just the stairs but that was my issue I didn’t realise the apartment was on the top floor, but if exercise was good for us.
- Arlene (10/5): Lovely flat, perfect for a short or long stay. - Very comfortable, cosy and quiet with everything you could need. Handy for shops & sea. Good communication with owner. Would definitely go back!
- Laura (10/5): Totally relaxing break with all the comforts we needed - Good quality of finish throughout the apartment and lots of little touches I didn’t expect coffee team milk cleaning products and great books!! There was a slight aroma when we first when in but when I turned the heating up the aroma had gone
- Rachel (10/5): A lovely little coastal gem! - I cant quite pinpoint what makes this cosy little nest so special, but it is. The beds were so comfy. The kitchen was well stocked (we cooked every night!). The heating was very efficient. The TV had every station you could need. The carpet was soft. The shower was lovely. Wifi was fast. And there was a loaf of fresh bread with jams and tea and coffee galore on arrival! Just beautiful. Daryl the manager was also an absolute delight to deal with! Will DEFINITELY return! Don’t be put off by the ‘rustic’ stairway to the property! A lovely little gem awaits!
- Ella (10/5): Exceptional - Area, location and all the facilities of the apartment.
- Alex (7/5): nice - nice and clean bathroom
- Heidi (10/5): We had a nice time! - Location was great, close to restaurants and sites. It was hard to find at night.
- Jacqui (9/5): Superb -
- Russell (10/5): Stylish apartment - Lovely accommodation stylish and comfortable with a great view of the isle of may.
Great base for exploring the coast and surrounding area.
Very clean couldn't fault anything Only downside was the parking
- Elaine (10/5): Exceptional - Coastal Retreat is a lovely, cozy flat just yards from the harbour, shops and bars. It is very clean and comfortable with all the facilities that you need for an enjoyable stay. The beds were very comfortable and had a good night's sleep.
- Carroll (10/5): Wonderful stay - We had a really lovely stay. The apartment was wonderful, fabulous location, very stylish and clean. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Nothing all great.
- Joanne (8/5): Comfortable and well equipped apartment. Great location but not suitable for infirm due to lack of bath mat to shower an - Clean and comfortable. Location. Well equipped No bath mat and it was very sloppy when trying to shower in bath.
- Jennifer (8/5): Lovely apartment in good location. -
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional - Great views and right in the middle of Anstruther. Close to pubs and chip shops. Excellent for families.
- Alice (9/5): A home away from home at Coastal Retreat! - The accommodation was beautiful and comfortable, particularly the beds.. We felt so at home. The location was wonderful, too. Facilities within the accommodation far exceeded our expectations. A communal dining area would have made the stay completely perfect.
- Frederike (9/5): Superb -
- Carole (10/5): We loved staying here, loads of room and everything we needed. Easy walking distance of the prom. - Everything! A beautiful apartment with everything we needed in it! Exceptional standard!
- Carol (9/5): Superb -
- Gertrud (9/5): Superb - I shared the apartment with a friend to participate in a professional workshop. We enjoyed Daryl's place a lot. Quiet, enough space, close to the sea and nice restaurants. The kitchen well equipped. Daryl answered quickly to our questions. I can highly recommend this apartment.
- Caroline (9/5): Absolutely loved our stay, would definitely come again. Nice area, friendly people! - Lovely, clean and tastefully decorated apartment. Very well equipped and super cosy. Close proximity to centre of town and local amenities. Plenty of options for eating and drinking within a few minutes walk and we found the restaurant and shop owners very friendly and accommodating. On street parking could get a bit tricky especially during peak season. Quite a few flights of stairs if you had mobility issues.
- Jean (10/5): Lovely modern flat right on the Fife Coastal Path. - Super clean, close to lots of interesting places and on the Fife Coastal Path. There’s no place to eat except in the lounge. An extra stool in the kitchen would have helped. We were only 2 people so that wouldn’t be useful if there were 4 of you,
- Mark (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyable. Would return at another opportunity. - Clean apartment in good location. Everything we required was included. Able to watch waves crashing over sea wall at end of pier. Easy access to Fife coastal path. We found the double bed uncomfortable. Could do with a new mattress.
- Janice (9/5): Very comfortable property, and in a great location. - Beautifully furnished and equipped, but with a really homely feel. Beds and bedding all excellent, very efficient heating system (once you understand how it works!) Free on-street parking right outside. With a row of smaller buildings between you and the seafront, there is some shelter from the wind, but you can sit on the window seat and watch the waves roll in.
We hope to return later in the year. Nothing, really!
One minor suggestion would be if, in winter months, the cleaners could adjust heating to have the flat warm for stated time of arrival? We arrived on a bitterly cold day, looking forward to getting warm - however, heating had been off for some time, and took a while to warm the place up nicely.
- Madeleine (9/5): Superb - Very warm and comfortable accommodation, exceptionally clean and well decorated and appointed. I would have liked hotter bathwater and a warmer bathroom.
- Stephanie (8/5): Beautiful hidden coastal retreat - Location Could do with a table to eat at or play games etc
- Donald (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was clean and well presented. Would recommend for a short break using Anstruther as a base.
- Julie (10/5): Fantastic! - Excellent location, very clean and comfortable. Lots of information provided by host in advance. Lots of nice touches such as useful guide books, trays for meals, well equipped kitchen. Would have preferred smaller pillow
- Mary (8/5): Overall, very comfortable flat in good location. - Clean, comfortable and spacious flat with good quality sofa, armchairs and furniture. Supplied with all the essentials. Velvetiser and hot chocolate nice addition. Great location next to shops and amenities. A coffee table in the living room would have been very useful, as no space for table in kitchen. This would also help in preventing spills. Stain on otherwise pristine carpet next to sofa when we arrived. Also though beds and mattresses seemed good quality, the single beds were narrower than standard singles.
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional -
- C (8/5): Great location handy public transport and coastal path Anstruther calm relaxing - Location central handy for Fife coastal path and restaurants.close to public transport and places to eat bus but quiet at night .
Two decent sized bedrooms. No breakfast dining area but ate out most of our stay.
- Adele (9/5): A comfortable, cosy stay beside the seaside. - Excellent location. A clean, cosy and comfortable flat which provided everything we needed for a very happy stay. We were lucky enough to be able to park right outside the door. Nothing. A completely trouble free and enjoyable stay.
- Nicky (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable furniture and beds. Lovely and warm heating not needed.
Lovely decorating No microwave
Could do with some trays as no dining space.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Flat was beautifully furnished and the beds were super comfortable. Everything was spotless 😁 Nothing really
- Mieke (8/5): Very good - Nice apartment.
Good location, close to the harbor.
Good bed. No table, diner nor salon.
On the second floor, so not suitable for unfit people.
Heating was slow.
- Sonja (9/5): Superb - Great location, well equipped and spacious flat. So many options nearby: long distance walking along the Fife Coastal Walkway, puffins at the Isle of May, Gambo garden, .... hope to be back! Minor issue with toilet cistern (slow leak)
- Glynis (10/5): Exceptional - Tastefully decorated flat. Spotlessly clean and very comfy. Great location Nothing, though being self catering, a microwave would have been useful.
- Dug (9/5): Superb -
- Morag (8/5): Nice cosy flat inside - Usual top quality cleanliness and furnishings Twin bedroom had no mirror or bin no microwave in kitchen
Access via common close
View was not as good as expected
- Jamie (9/5): Cosy and comfortable short stay. - excellent location - close to centre of Anstruther and local shops/restaurants.
property was well maintained and very cosy. Welcome pack was very much appreciated. The small cupboard door in the bathroom made getting in and out of the bathroom difficult as it kept on sticking out when trying to open/close the door.
There was a lack of a communal dining area, as a family of 4 we couldn’t all fit in the kitchen (2 adults, 2 kids) and there wasn’t a large enough table in the living room for us all to eat together. Not a negative point as the flat is restricted by its size but perhaps an area to improve - larger coffee table perhaps.
- Stef (9/5): Lovely flat would recommend staying here - Lovely flat ,great location with lovely view of a beautiful sunrise out the front windows every morning , very up to date interior nice mod con devices, great shower also. Walking distance to the shops. And found parking outside the property easy always got a space to park. But parking close by if no space available. Also very peaceful for it being a flat. Only thing was in the bathroom, just beside the door is another door inside like a storage cupboard we got the two doors jammed together and couldn't enter the bathroom but eventually got it open. Decided not to close the door over again just incase it happened again.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - property was lovely very nicely decorated and comfortable and clean
- Crhistos_vrs (9/5): An great choice for staying in Anstruther - Wonderful location and the place is great. Spacious, clean and very cosy ( we think it was just renovated) it is an excellent choice for a family like ourselves.
- David (9/5): A lovely property in an excellent situation. - The property was very comfortable and furnished/equipped with good quality items. Heating was very efficient and we liked the view from the front of the building. A little table to eat at would have been good.
- Fiona (9/5): Immaculate and stylish. - The flat was very stylish and immaculately clean. It felt like the host has out a lot of thought into things. The location was great - very central with a view of the May Island. As a family we could have used a table to sit at for meals. However, this wasn't a huge issue.
- Anonymous (8/5): Great flat, would recommend to others and would book again. - Lovely, cosy flat. Perfect location. Peaceful and very comfortable. Clean and tidy. Thank you Would have preferred a dishwasher and freezer section in the fridge but it didn’t really affect our enjoyment.
- Debbie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Moira (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable quality furnishings Stairwell into property could do with attention
