Guest Reviews
- Guest (5/5): Pour backpackers only! - La gentillesse et la disponibilité d’Helena !
Chambre spacieuse
- Diana (1/5): Bad - Helena Homestay is the worst accommodation we have ever stayed in. The bathroom is a disgrace. The shower doesn't work, and it seems it hasn't for quite some time. The toilet flush is broken, there is no sink, no toilet paper, and no soap. Towels cost extra. Additionally, it is very dark and has a slight smell. The only light comes from the neighboring room, so you can't turn on the lights at night.
I know it's in nature, but the abundance of ants was overwhelming and quite unpleasant.
Additionally, it is farther from the park than indicated on Google Maps, so you have to walk for about 20 minutes.
We were the only guests and did not feel very welcomed. Breakfast was okay. We also had dinner, which was tasty, but at 35 Ringgit per person, it was too expensive. We can only advise against staying here. After two nights, we moved to the Mulu Park hostel, which is so much better! If you stay inside the park, you can also go on a night walk on your own.
- Krishnakumar (7/5): Good and Budget Homestay - This review is based on the situations in a remote place like Mulu. The stay was good. It's about 1-1.5 km from Mulu national park and airport, so it's in walkable location. The host Helena and Shania was supportive. The room had 3 single beds. Initially I thought it would be a dormitory type of stay. But they have multiple rooms. It is a budget homestay. They prepare dinner and lunch is you ask for. Prices are at par with Mulu park restaurant. Bathroom door's bottom is broken and open. Due to this smell from bathroom was coming to bedroom. Windows can't be latched. Foreigners may feel uncomfortable since it can be opened by anyone from outside. This can be resolved very easily.
- Alana (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (4/5): Disappointing but tolerable - Location was in-between National Park HQ and Marriott Resort, so that was ok.
Staff was friendly, although barely functional in English. Bathroom facilities are substandard. No shower, no basin, toilet cover and seat badly damaged. Bed were saggy and not supportive of a good sleep. Floor is substandard. Area for hanging clothes is jam-packed with hangers to the point where you can't squeeze in your wet clothes.
