Guest Reviews
- Sigita (8/5): An architecturally impressive stay in a remote setting, though the overall experience felt more limited than expected fo - Distinctive architecture, well-designed rooms, and remote coastal setting. Simple dining, modest activities, inconsistent service and value that does not fully align with the premium price.
- Christopher (10/5): Top Tier, Remote, Beautiful, and Exclusive. Mixed feelings on value at rack rates. - The location is remote, and exclusive. The lodge is located about 400km inside Skeleton Coast national park. You will get to experience firsthand locations that maybe only a few thousand people will ever experience, such as the clay castles in the riverbed.
While you may see some desert adapted animals, don't expect to see too many. Seeing a lion or an elephant is possible but should not be expected. You're more likely to see some Jackals, antelope, and seabirds.
Best food of any lodge I stayed at. We had a BBQ at the riverbed and the ribs were some of the best I've ever had.
The staff is excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable. Among the top tier of any locations, we visited. You will be on a first name basis with all of them from the start, as this is a small lodge with only 20 rooms.
We were short on diesel, and they were able to sell us some at a decent price to ensure our trip back to civilization was safe. The internet access is poor, and only available intermittently in the lodge itself (not in your room). Throughout our 2 weeks stay in Namibia, I would say this is actually very common at the 5 lodges we visited, so I do not deduct any points for this. Just something to be aware of.
Due to the remote location, you will not be able to do much exploring on your own. You will not have access to your vehicle, and travelling anywhere is not really possible without the accompaniment of a guide. You will be escorted after dark between your room and the main lodge for safety from animals and the environment.
Outside of guided activities there is not much to do other than to relax and partake in all-inclusive alcoholic beverages and food. This is not really a downside, but something to be aware of. We stayed for 3 nights, and I think that is the perfect amount of time. Anymore, and it'd likely get boring, and less and you will miss out on activities the lodge offers.
I paid rack rate for our stay, and I wish I had held out for a deal. It was an excellent and memorable experience, which I will remember and cherish forever. However, value wise, I felt that this lodge was not worth 3x the price of other luxury lodges I stayed at, though I'd happily spend 2x the price to stay again.
- Kellie (10/5): A bucket list worthy trip! - The property was absolutely phenomenal. The natural beauty was awe inspiring. The quad biking through the dunes and the sand boarding were magical, I felt so fully present, alive and grateful through this entire trip. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
