Guest Reviews
- Dries (10/5): Great experience, even with kids - We really enjoyed our stay (1 night) with our family of 3 (2 adults & 1 toddler). They were very accomodating and welcoming of our toddler. The shuttle to and from the hotel from Shirakawago was well organised. All staff members were polite and welcoming. The view from our room was wonderful.
We also had dinner and everything was great; they even accomodated for vegetarian diet. We didn’t use the bath/onsen options during our stay although it looked really nice and has a nice view. Would highly recommend!
- Cornie (10/5): Very relaxing and pampered stay - The natural hot spring onsen is amazing and the skincare provides is of top quality !

- John (9/5): There are trade offs if staying here. I don’t see them changing for the benefit of the guests. - Beautiful place, clean, and well maintained. Comfortable room. Right on the river. Very nice Far from the grass houses and main site of interest. Shuttle very limited and starts too late for the first bus to Kanazawa. Very inconvenient service. Obviously designed that way to keep people from arriving too early, and leaving before breakfast is offered. The first shuttle is at 9 to the bus area, and will not pick up from the bus area until the afternoon.
- Aleksandr (10/5): One of the best options is Shirakawago - It was a stunning experience. Friendly transfer from and to the bus station, an engaging and aesthetically pleasing interior of the hotel spaces, nice room with a soothing river view, relaxing onsen, an impressive kitchen with a lot of interesting dishes and ingredients that we've never tried before. What else do you need for a wonderful vacation that you won't forget for a long time? Nothing to complain about
- Michael (9/5): We felt very welcome and really enjoyed our stay. - Very nice place with excellent service
- Serap (10/5): - Everything was extremely nice, clean and well planned. Meals were amazing and high quality. Would definitely come again in the future. Onsen was also amazing. Overall a great operation running with very helpful stuff. Nothing
- Cynthia (10/5): - Amazing room and facilities including pillow menu. Private onsen, peaceful location, free shuttle to/from nearby Shirakawago site/bus station. Surrounded by snowcapped mountains.
- Cristelle (10/5): Excellent . Chambre magnifique .
- Maria (10/5): - What a wonderful experience it was to stay at this hotel!
We loved the traditional feel and beautiful decor of the interiors. The tatami flooring meant you had to remove your shoes at reception, which I wish every hotel would do! The whole environment felt so clean.
We were given loungewear and yukatas to wear if we wished to and we did. Going to our gourmet kaiseki dinner in a yukata felt just right.
The dinner was excellent, beautifully presented and delicious, with wonderful service.
We also had a lovely view of sunset on the mountains.
The onsen was great too and we appreciated having a public as well as a private bath.
Not only was dinner wonderful but we then had a surprise for breakfast. Breakfast was equally delicious and beautifully presented, such a nice gourmet experience.
The whole package was also excellent value.
All in all a great experience which I would recommend to anyone. The exterior of the hotel is rather shabby with a huge impersonal car park. It would be nice if there were trees planted in the car park to soften the appearance of the hotel.
- Da Rosa (10/5): -
- Betty (10/5): excellent stay, good locationn with parking, spacious room, good paid breakfast and dinner - spacious room, window looking out to the open area, kimono provided for guests to wear some hot food for dinner
- Marco hölscher (10/5): Perfect - Vriendelijke staff goede locatie perfcte kamer voor 5 mensen. Niks.
- Jean-Marc (9/5): -
- Jana (8/5): - Very clean rooms and facilities. Staff was quite helpful, the dinner and breakfast were extremely big portion - we couldn't quite finish the food! We had a lovely view of the river from our room. While the room was decently sized, the layout of our quadruple room wasn't ideal - the hallway was very narrow for large luggages.
- Marina (10/5): - A hotel that give you the experience of Japanese Hospitality at its finest way, from the beautiful rooms and the view of the mountains, to the all fine tunings that you don’t know that you need but it’s a must. Clean, the staff is helpful, and super nice, the breakfast was Japanese with beautiful view. We also took the dinner and it was ok, we could pass it to be honest.
They have ramen at night time which is amazing, and snacks in the onsen area. was great! Thank you! The dinner, and that’s all.
- Jessica (10/5): Amazing hotel couldn't recommend it more - The amazing facilities, lovely meals and great friendly staff Nothing I can think of though we had a car which made getting to and from town to hotel easy (but without a car there is a shuttle)
- nathan (9/5): -
- Nathalie (9/5): Japanese style at the entrance of the village - Situated at the entrance of the village, you can either take your car to the parking lot or the shuttle of the hotel to the busterminal. We visited the village at 4pm when most of the crowd was leaving the village (the parking lot closes at 5pm).
Nice family room looking over the mountains. Having to take of your shoes and wear a traditional japanese outfit to go to the hotel facilities…we all loved it.
Dinner and breakfast were like an art piece. So many little dishes. Really kids friendly. Our daughter is 4 yrs old, but everything was prepared for her in advance.

- Natalie (10/5): Lovely stay with a view - We really enjoyed our stay! The view was very lovely, the beds were crazy comfortable and the kaiseki meals were interesting and yummy. We also enjoyed the private onsen, which is available free of charge. There are frequently fun snacks available as well, including ramen in the evening.
The facility offers a van service to and from the Shirakawago site, but I would probably recommend a car so that you have full access to the area.
- Eric (10/5): Excellent staff, food , all amenities included were fabulous. Outstanding food and service. - Excellent hotel. Amazing food and spa.
- Annick (8/5): -
- Costa (10/5): - Unbelievable stay, we loved it
- David (10/5): - Todo genial , atencion espectacular y cuidado top
- Ganesh (10/5): A Relaxing Oasis with Fantastic Amenities - Excellent stay! The location is perfect and the welcome drinks were a great perk. The standout feature for us was the public bath—it was so refreshing after a long day. We really appreciate the well-maintained facilities and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend! Our only minor suggestion would be to provide clearer English manuals for the room temperature controls and humidifier, as they were a bit tricky to set.
- Ercoli17 (10/5): -
- Vo Trong (10/5): - The outdoor onsen was amazing in Feb Snow

- Geraldine BATEMAN (10/5): -
- Kouji (10/5): -
- Verena (10/5): Another great ryokan experience - Another lovely ryokan experience. We had a very nice room overlooking the river. The traditional Japanese meals were great and the public onsen was good and not too busy. Staff were very helpful There are smoking rooms on some floors and the smell can permeate nearby rooms. Our daughter complained and was immediately moved to another room
- Laura (7/5): Splendid onsen but for the rest won’t come back - If it was only for the onsen I would give it a 10! It was a really fantastic place to relax after a day of sightseeing. The food was good as well, served by very kind staff. The photos show the property as if completely in the nature. Actually the rooms look at at river but the hotel is along the main road and completely misses and outdoor space. Air conditioning was not working
- David (5/5): -
- Deyang (10/5): -
- Mark (7/5): Not worth the money - Very polite and helpful staff. Having paid over £250.00 a night I did not expect to be told upon arrival that lounge drinks, restaurant drinks and room service were all extra. (Other chain hotels in Japan I have stayed at for a lot less per night included all these.)
We stayed 6 nights (far too long in this remote location) and endured a two day repeat menu.
Fortunately we had a car so we're able to explore. I would not come here unless on a tourist bus or by car.
Some of the tourist sites nearby are not very good and just saturated with coach loads of sightseers.
- conisea (6/5): -
- frank (7/5): -
- Orly Ellenbogen (9/5): Connection to Japanese culture - The hotel's design, facilities, and codes of conduct all allowed us to feel part of Japanese culture. From taking off our shoes at the entrance, through the meals, the Japanese aesthetics, the onsen, the location, the view. Terrible music on an endless loop in the hotel's public areas.
- gustavo (9/5): Shirakawa worth the visit - Very nice view to the River, very close to Shirakawa , very clean, very big , nice staff, nice bed. Very big Hotel in the middle of Japan, did not enjoy much our breakfast, they did not have all the ingredients and our rice was cold when they served it.
- sonia (9/5): - Everithing
- Daniel (8/5): -
- Miesia (9/5): - Comfort, very very clean, the atmosfer, the staf..the free ramen is delicious..all things are good 😍 It’s a bit pricey
- Sunny Uberai (8/5): Good Hotel but more than a walk from the Grasso village! - Good Tatami hotel. Spacious & well presented rooms Located a bit away from the grasso village. Found it overpriced compared to offering when compated to similar hotels at similar price levels where we stayed in last few weeks . Distance from.Grasso village. Lack of private Onsens.
- Feng Sung (10/5): -
- Cristina (10/5): - Hotel auténtico y tradicional. Onsen no tattoo friendly.
- Winyou (10/5): -
- Maria (10/5): - Great location, comfortable beds, enough space. Basically loved everything. Especially that no shoes are allowed inside the property.
- Sean (8/5): Traditional and authentic stay - Zen and relaxing very authentic and traditional Was aware that the food would be limited to local options and traditional Japanese experience, however there was a lack of choice and even for me I found it difficult to eat.
- Csaba (10/5): -
- Yii Shioun (9/5): Boutique Hotel Near Shirakawago Village - Just few minutes drive to Shirakawago village!
Spacious room overlooking river! Kaiseki Dinner was a bit disappointingn and not delightful to our taste. Morning was better.
- Apisit (10/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): -
- Denis (10/5): Sunlit breakfast with mountainview and traditional clothing. A dream! - Mountain view during breakfast. Recluse section fur supper with perfectly timed service.
Free shuttle bus between the bus stop and the hotel.
Excelent food, room and service in general. The active hours of the shuttle bus to the hotel could be better indicated. We almost took a taxi to the hotel. Also the personnel at the bus stop proposed us to take a taxi to the hotel, while the shuttle bus of the hotel was available.
- Karen (10/5): - Layout, staff and class of service and quality A little remote
- elize (9/5): Great stay to visit Shirakawa-go - The staff makes the difference. Dinner is great, but choices are limited.
- Fuji (10/5): Fantastic Onsen Ryokan experience at Shirakawa - The mountain and the river view from our room were fantastic! Both Japanese style course dinner and breakfast were well chosen and delicious. The shuttle bus from to the bus terminal was helpful. Liked walking around Ryokan on tatami. None
- Gemma VH (9/5): Espai cuidat i acollidor - Espai cuidat, agradable i molt acollidor.
Bons serveis complementaris.
- Suzanne (9/5): Vi trivdes mycket bra. God mat, skön och lugn stämning. Badet var också alldeles utmärkt. -
- Giulia (9/5): Perfect and relaxing stay in Shirakawa-go - Relaxing place, great facilities, lovely dinner experience and spacious room Nothing
- jorgeverardo (10/5): -
- Holiday (6/5): -
- Stacey (9/5): Nice Hotel with Mountain View - The property was very clean, and beautiful. Enjoyed the view of the mountains. I thought it was expensive. The dinner and breakfast was very expensive, and I wish there were other options available.
- kofi (10/5): -
- Yung Pei (10/5): -
- Gerald (10/5): - Family friendly, dinner and breakfast surprisingly good, private onsen was great Unfortunately there are 2 private onsens first come first serve. We went to the onsen at 330 pm first then we there at 3AM we were fortunate we never had to wait but when we left the onsen after our first experience there was a long line to get into the private ones. Decent distance from town. If you had a rental car more power to you
- Lydia (9/5): Ax excellent ‘experience hotel’ with great onsen facilities, helpful staff and good location for Shirakawa-go. - The building itself was beautiful - great sized rooms, traditional but still simple decor.
The staff were helpful and had excellent English to communicate with guests.
The onsen facilities were excellent and the option to have the private onsen for a period, looking out over the mountains and the sunset, was such a bonus.
The traditional wear provided for all guests was a fun element of the experience.
Little freebies included (e.g. yakults, ice lollies, ramen at 10pm).
Shuttle bus available for travelling to Shirakawa-go. I wish the dinner menu was available before booking. We read on the booking that it would be difficult to find a dinner reservation in the village and that the hotel booked up fast, so we felt slightly pressured to book dinner - our most expensive meal we had while in Japan. While we were told it would be a traditional dinner, we weren’t prepared for how much of it would be a step too far for our Western palates. We tried as much as we could, but a lot of it was not enjoyable for us unfortunately. It’s a shame as there was a lot of food provided and we felt bad being so wasteful. Had we seen a menu in advance, we would’ve made other arrangements.
The same applies for the traditional breakfast, although this was included in the price.
