Guest Reviews
- Alexandra (10/5): Highlight of our trip to Uzbekistan - Beautiful homestay, delicious food, and awesome hiking! - Amazing time staying with Shodmon and his family at their beautiful homestay in the mountains. We enjoyed amazing food cooked from fresh ingredients from the surrounding area - best food of the trip so far! The rooms are clean, comfortable and most importantly cool! Good wifi also a bonus. We stayed for three nights and Shodmon organised two hikes for us - Fosilmon lake and a hike to see petroglyphs; both were great but Fosilmon was the stand out for us and we would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good hike! The guesthouse arranged transfers to and from the guesthouse for us (from Samarkand and to Bukhara) which were seamless. Definitely worth checking out Shodmon’s instagram - https://www.instagram.com/shodmon_guesthouse_?igsh=MWR3ZW5zcDQ4YWJrdA== Everything was great!
- Joost (9/5): Wonderfull stay - Wonderfull location! Very friendly people!
On recommande fortement l’endroit
- Ally (10/5): Beautiful guesthouse, great food, very helpful with organising transfer to Bukhara and a horse ride to the petroglyphs. -
- JONATHAN (10/5): Warm family environment in a majestic mountain setting - Hospitality is wonderful. Especially loved the family environment and home cooked meals. Shadman is a very attentive host who arranged our transportation to and from the guesthouse. The family makes a point of connecting with guests during the stay. Shadmans niece Rana is a cute little 6 year old who is wonderfully sociable and made us feel loved by bringing us flowers. We truly loved the Plov and Bread making cooking activities. So authentic!
The location is in the mountains is beside some incredible hiking trails where we saw wild bighorn sheep. Fantastic! Bathrooms are shared
- Fiona (10/5): Wonderful stay in the mountains - Gem of a place! Super friendly and fabulous food
- Leonard (10/5): Authentic Hospitality in a Beautiful Natural Paradise - We had a wonderful stay at this charming family-run guesthouse. The owners were incredibly kind and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The location is simply idyllic, set right by a river in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains and plenty of hiking opportunities. Both the room and shared bathrooms were clean, and the dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. We truly felt at home here and only wished we could have stayed longer than one night. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy nature and genuine hospitality.
- Malika (10/5): -

- Chalmers (8/5): Lovely friendly guesthouse in the Nuratua Mountains - We really enjoyed our stay up in the Nuratau Mountains with Shodmon and his family, who are all very friendly and warm. The guesthouse is very clean and in a lovely setting. Breakfast and meals are served on a covered terrace opposite the rooms. Both are copious and tasty!
We also enjoyed a guided half-day walk to see a petroglyph with Shodmon's brother. The route took us through a local village and along by a river, where we could see local villagers preparing their land for new crops, and could admire the spring blossoms and views. Recommended! Nothing really.
- Davide (10/5): - Fantastic experience at the Muso guest house! The place is beautiful and it's possible to go on some very nice hikes.
But especially, the family is amazing! They welcomed us and they were very kind. Shodmon went with us on a walk to see the wild goats.
They cooked lunch and dinner for us and the food was delicious! I am sad because we stayed only two nights. The stay was perfect!
They also provided us with transportation from Nurata to Bukhara.
- Robert (9/5): - The warm atmosphere! Lovely people. Great food. Lovely hiking (weather permitting) 😛.
- Fabian (10/5): Fabelhaft - Mega schöne Oase in den Bergen. So idyllisch.
- Mohammed (10/5): Have been looking for this experience for 25 years. I would definitely repeat and change my travel preferences to look f - The family host. The experience of preparing food with the family and the rural life. The kindness of the staff and how well organized their preparation for every small detail like preparing the dough, the oven , making the bread, preparing tables and salads.
As a matter of fact, i have visited many places and gone through many experiences this year. I rate this one as the most memorable experience. If you are visiting Uzbekistan for many activities, this experience would be adequate to forget about everything else. Couldn’t find any. Therefore 10 solid score.
- Samantha (10/5): Beautiful location, friendly hosts, delicious food. - Muso Guesthouse was such a delightful place to stay to end my 3 weeks in Uzbekistan. It’s set within beautiful surroundings, the host family is lovely and the food was some of the best I’ve experienced in the country. It’s not an easy country to travel on a vegan diet but I ate like a queen at Muso.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area - mountain hikes, petroglyphs, exploring village life and seeing wild mountain sheep. You can choose to explore on your own, which I did, or be guided by one of the family members. Shodmon speaks English well and has lots of tips for making the most of your time.
I recommend staying at least 3 nights if you have the time. It’s a lovely change from city travel.
Shodmon arranged transport to and from the guesthouse for me at a reasonable price. It was a convenient way to travel.
An overall clean, comfortable, friendly place in a beautiful setting with delicious food. I highly recommend. Nothing.
- LorenzoRGG (10/5): Amazing experience in Nuratau montains - Our favourite guesthouse in Central Asia! The rooms were comfortable and clean. The food was delicious and almost entirely produced in their garden. Plenty of activities to do in the surrounding area and the owner walked with us to the hills around the structure.
Siamo stati davvero come a casa.
- Penelope (10/5): Exceptional - I've never given a score of 10 before, but this place totally deserved it - Shodmon and his family were amazing. I was sick when I stayed there and they made sure I was okay and comfortable. The guesthouse is in a beautiful green orchard with a stream running through it, and is a delightful place to spend time, as well as all the walks and hikes around. The food is good, with lots of fresh fruit and local produce, and everyone makes sure you have everything you need. There are lots of walking opportunities around, and it would definitely be worth staying more than one or two nights to really enjoy the place. There were no additional charges or pressure to take a guide or go on a tour, so it was a wonderful relaxing place to stay. Transport to the village is tricky - you need either your own car or a taxi. The toilets are shared (but very clean)
- Julien (10/5): Exceptional - This is a lovely guesthouse in the village of Hayat, it’s a perfect stop between the hot cities. The host family, the food and the bedroom are super nice ! There is many options to spend your days, with small or big hikes, or just relaxing in the garden.
- Alessandro (10/5): A peaceful and welcoming place that felt just like home - Staying at Muso Homestay was one of the highlights of my trip. The place is simple but spotless, quiet, and filled with genuine Uzbek hospitality. From the moment I arrived, I felt completely at ease — like I was part of the family.
The room was clean and comfortable, with fresh sheets, towels, good air circulation, and reliable hot water. Everything was well maintained, and it’s clear that the hosts take pride in keeping the house in order.
Shodmon and his family were incredibly kind and respectful. They gave me space when I needed it, but were always happy to help — whether it was with directions, advice on what to see, or just having a friendly chat. Their hospitality felt real, not something they put on for tourists.
Breakfast was one of my favorite parts. Every morning, they served a generous homemade spread: eggs, fresh bread, fruits, several kinds of jams, honey, tea, and more. It wasn’t fancy, but it was full of flavor and heart — the kind of food you’d get in a real home, not a hotel.
The homestay is located in a beautiful green area surrounded by mountains. It’s peaceful, with fresh air and birds singing in the morning. If you enjoy nature and walking, this place is a dream. There’s even a chance to see wild mouflons (mountain sheep) nearby if you go for a hike — an unexpected and unforgettable experience.
Wi-Fi was reliable and worked well in the room — enough for messages, emails, and basic browsing.
Overall:
If you're looking for a clean, peaceful place with beautiful nature and truly warm, down-to-earth people — Muso Homestay is perfect. I felt safe, well taken care of, and completely at peace. I would absolutely come back. Honestly, I think everything was exactly how it should be
Nothing really — everything was well arranged and comfortable.
- Reusel (10/5): One of the best homestay experiences I’ve ever had. - We had a wonderful time at this homestay. The hosts were incredibly warm and friendly — always ready to help and making sure we felt at home. Their hospitality was sincere and made our stay special.
The food was one of the best parts — homemade, fresh, and full of traditional flavors. Every meal felt like it was prepared with care and love. Breakfasts were generous, and dinners were delicious and satisfying.
The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and well-kept. The beds had fresh linens, and everything was neat and tidy. The bathrooms and toilets were spotless, which made our stay even more pleasant.
The place is surrounded by calm nature, with fresh air and a peaceful atmosphere — perfect for relaxing and unwinding. It’s ideal for anyone looking to experience true local hospitality, great food, and a quiet environment.
Highly recommended. Everything was perfect — clean, comfortable, and welcoming.
- Emilien (10/5): Exceptional - The place was in the nature The room smelled paint, should be gone by now
- Yve (7/5): A Slice of Paradise — With a Few Shadows - The guesthouse is nestled in a small village in the Uzbek mountains, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. What we loved most was the peaceful garden atmosphere — there are plenty of cozy spots to relax and take it all in. A gentle stream runs right through the property, adding a soothing soundtrack of trickling water. During our stay, we were even allowed to pick fresh cherries straight from the trees. In short: pure paradise!
The rooms are traditionally furnished, as you’d expect from a guesthouse. We stayed in a triple room as a pair, so there was plenty of space. The beds are quite firm — and the pillows could be compared to concrete — but surprisingly, we still slept well! The electricity was stable, there was occasional Wi-Fi (note: mobile data with Ucell doesn’t work here), and the shared bathroom was reasonably clean. There were two large groups staying at the same time, so the odd hair in the shower wasn’t unexpected and didn’t bother us.
Lunch and dinner are available for $8 per person, and there aren't really any alternative dining options in the village — but that’s part of the charm :-)
The location is ideal for hiking, with a nature reserve home to mouflons just 500 meters away. Be sure to bring sturdy footwear, as some trails are quite steep and require a steady step.
What stood out most was the warmth of the host family. Even without speaking English, they made communication possible. We shared meals, conversations, and even dancing! Even the youngest family members pitched in to help. We felt truly welcome and at home throughout our stay. Until that point at least. Unfortunately, we have to deduct a few points, as we didn’t leave with the best feeling. The main reason for this was the lack of clear — and at times seemingly deliberately vague — information regarding extras and pricing. During a pre-booked horseback excursion and in relation to drink prices, we felt that tourists were being charged disproportionately.
We were told a guide would accompany us on the 2-hour excursion, but to our surprise, the host himself came along. Due to the language barrier, we received hardly any information — he was mostly occupied with his smartphone. Being charged the same rate as professional guides with excellent language skills take for a full day felt unreasonable. The horse rental was listed as "per day," and while we would have accepted a half-day rate, the host insisted that even "one minute" would be charged in full.
We were also charged nearly three times the price of a canned beer compared to what we paid in a boutique hotel in Samarkand. The explanation — high procurement costs and 120 km distance — didn’t quite add up, especially since we saw the same cans cheaper the mentioned cost just 30 minutes away.
Since neither SIM cards nor Wi-Fi worked reliably, it was difficult to clarify things on site or use translation apps (Uzbek we had downloaded, not Tadjik). We voiced our concerns at checkout and negotiated the bill — something we’d only encountered at bazaars. The friendliness vanished during this exchange, only to return just before departure with a request for a good review.
This was our only negative accommodation experience during nearly 20 days in Uzbekistan, which made it all the more disappointing. We felt that tourism had already sparked a sense of greed in the way things were handled.
- Tom (10/5): Very relaxing and authentic stay in a village in the mountains - Great food - best we had in Uzbekistan - everything fresh from their land, great vegetarian options.
Well located for hikes
Very beautiful surrounds
- Hugo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Exoticexpeditions31 (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful guesthouses in a beautiful location.. Beautiful experience for offbeat and experience looking travellers.. The family was very accommodative and nice..Would surely visit again.
- Lucilecara (10/5): Three days in paradise - How to describe this wonderful experience? Everything was perfect. Shodmon and his family are amazing persons, friendly, welcoming, warm... They really make everything to make your stay memorable. If you're thinking of stopping there just for the night please reconsider your planning because this place is definitely worth staying at least 2 days.
The food was just amazing ! Everything homemade and from the garden: yogurt, bread, butter, jam, nuts, dry fruits... And for dinner they serve the best local food. We were even invited to learn how to cook the famous traditional plov!
The surroundings are perfect for hiking next to sheep and goats. The garden is beautiful and quiet, making it the best place to rest listening to the river.
Rooms were clean and comfy!
I could keep going but you need to come and discover by yourself!
- Rachel (10/5): Experience the magic of nature and the old ways of village life - Our stay was PURE MAGIC! The setting was exquisitely beautiful. Our hosts were so pleasant and warm. It was a completely different side of Uzbekistan than the historical cities & Islamic architecture. The power of nature is so strong there. They welcomed me to help them making manti and non. I just loved that whole family so much. We will cherish that experience forever.
- Chiara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karolinka (10/5): A Memorable Mountain Retreat with Warm Hospitality - I recently had the pleasure of staying at a charming guesthouse nestled in the mountains, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with genuine warmth and friendliness. The guesthouse offered breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, creating a serene and picturesque setting.
One of the standout aspects of my stay was the range of activities offered. I had the chance to go horseriding for 300k sum, which was a fantastic way to explore the scenic surroundings. Additionally, I visited a really old tree ( "munzhrum tree", more than 1000 years) in a nearby village for 200k, went on a charming donkey ride for 250k, and took a trip to a salt lake for 200k. Each activity provided a unique perspective on the local area and added a special touch to my visit.
One of the highlights of my stay was the opportunity to dine with the family who runs the guesthouse. Sharing meals with them provided a unique and personal touch that made the experience even more special. Not only did I enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals, but I also had the chance to learn traditional cooking techniques directly from them. I particularly enjoyed learning how to make bread and cook "five fingers" pasta, which was both educational and rewarding.
An added bonus was the presence of a good English speaker, who facilitated communication and made interactions with the family smooth and enjoyable.
Transportation: I took a train from Tashkent to Djizak. Then in Djizak (with the help of friendly workers at the train station) I took a shared taxi to the village for 150k sum. I showed them the map on google map. On the map it looks like in Uhum village, but its in fact in Hayat village. For the trip back ( Hayat to Djizak) it cost me 300k sum.
Social Media: There is an instagram page for Hayat village ( Hayat_tourism_village) and the guest house (shodmon_guesthouse_).
Accomodities: Everything is clean and in good conditions. I had a UCell SIM card and experienced issues with data connectivity, while those using Uztelecom seemed to have no problems.
- Chiara (10/5): Exceptional - This was an incredible experience and we highly recommend this place. Not only did we find an incredibly beautiful place, a little oasis of peace up in the Naratau mountains, but we also met amazing people. The family who hosted us were extremely generous and made our stay unforgettable. The food was delicious and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. We have never met anyone so helpful. They would do anything to make out stay comfortable! We really wanted to extend our stay and we will certainly come back here in the future. A special thanks to Shodmon and Behruza for all their help!
