Guest Reviews
- Kateřina (9/5): - Perfect location, nice host. Mattress was too soft, it was hard to have a proper sleep.
- MALI (10/5): Very nice - Awesome property! Beautiful location, amazing staff, kind and attentive.
The property is a little bit old, but it’s a good value for money.
Thank you for a great stay 🤗 A bit of sewage smell during the night times from the shower
Rien.
- Yoshi (3/5): - Beautiful location in the middle of the rice fields. We expected a nice room where we could chil after busy Canggu. When we arrived our room was clinical. Light of a dentist, feeling of an old place. Shower basic and simple. Shower curtain high enough to do limbo but not for a real person.
Bed made a lot of noise.
After contacting the location 2 times we only received: i cant give you money back, booking can. Nothing else.
We decided to leave after 12hours.
We had a lot of better stays in the area.
- Zuzana (7/5): - Buddha Homestay was a pleasant stay in a quiet neighborhood, which we really appreciated. The place itself is nice and well-kept. However, the bed was too soft for our liking, making it uncomfortable for sleeping.
- Daria (9/5): -
- Beatrice (7/5): Posto davvero suggestivo!
- Beck (9/5): Perfect! - Breakfast, the views, the owner and staff - just wonderful! If you're looking for a quiet getaway with modest, clean and very comfortable beds etc, you should check out this place. I'll be back! First world issue but not all rooms have aircon but did have fans. Really great value so no complaints.

- carolyn (9/5): A great find! - Great location. Really peaceful area in a location 6 only be accessed by bike. Despite there being no a/c, the room stayed cool with fan and open windows. Comfortable bed. Nice pool. Beautiful garden. Great value place. Bathroom basic, but exactly what I expected for the price.
- Ophelie (10/5): - Tout.
- Peggy (9/5): One of the best in this area😀❤️ - Lovely to have breakfast served on your own terrace in the morning, free tea and filed water available 24h on your Terrace. The greenery and peace around the property is just lovely. Very Friendly staff & owner Ivan. Excellent value accomodation. Nothing really
- Alina (10/5): -
- Magdalena (10/5): -
- Roberta (10/5): -
- Sabine (8/5): -
- Cassiel (10/5): - I loved Buddha Homestay! Our room was overlooking the rice fields, the bed was comfy, the pool was lovely, and the location was great. It's quiet, but only 15 minutes from the action in the centre. You'd benefit from renting a scooter if you stay here, and you need to take a scooter ride to get to the homestay as it's on a small road. It's a great path for jogging in the morning. And...we had a friendly cat come and say hi, which was delightful. The ladies that come in the morning are absolutely lovely, and the breakfast was delicious—we just had fresh fruit and it was amazing.
- Tom (9/5): Heavenly calm - Amazing location, just a little scooterride through the ricefields. We also walked its just 20mins. Staff was so helpfull the 2 girls are amazing and their breakfast was the best. Walking distance from warungs. Great atmosphere! Nothing, but minor bathroom things could be approved and renewed.
- Yevhen (9/5): You'll definitely like it. - The place is simply amazing for me, I booked without knowing anything about the city and its structure, but I was lucky, thanks to the owners and staff. I wish you well and prosperity. If you need to highlight something that you don't like and that could be improved, then of course you can always find flaws. But objectively, what was bothering me was the problem with the door to the room, which clings to the floor. And stale pillows.
- Shubham (10/5): Calm, serene place - The ambience of the place is best for people seeking a calm place. I would rather say the things that can be improved and if there would be mosquito nets around the bed like a canopy, it would be best.
- Sini (9/5): Superb - Pretty, nice location for peacelover. Comfy room, good breakfast, sweet people.
- Cecilia (10/5): Exceptional - I love staying here, it was my second time, the location is a bit remote but I love and the staff is amazing (thank you for the breakfast prepared with so much kindness).
I lost the gift that I bought to my parents and they did everything to help me! I stayed there 4 nights and they didn’t change the towels however I should have asked.
Please put some light on the bedside tables, the only thing that would made a difference on my stay to read at night.
- Inês (10/5): In connection with nature - I had a lovely time here. Wished to re-book later that month but was already fully booked.
Stunning place for deep reflection and relaxation. In the middle of the rice fields, accessible with a motorbike. The staff were so nice, and the breakfast healthy and delicious. Nothing to point out.
- Gokhan (9/5): Superb -
- Dessy (2/5): Scammy owner ruined this place - book with caution - The location is good, surrounded by rice paddy field but beware that this accomodation is only accessible by motorbike Property has gone downhill with the new owner Ivan post Covid (been coming few times before Covid with a lovely retired couple)
- Slow internet
- Fan almost falling down
- Lots of insects coming inside the room
- No more laundry service
The worst is definitely the new owner, I booked via Booking.com and requested different dates, he refused to accomodate and I ended up paying 8 full extra nights when I didn’t even stay there. Worst is that he canceled my reservation so I cant leave bad reviews and replied to my messages rudely, basically admiting he’s gaming the system and telling me to go away.
Avoid at all cost, better find another place which is local-owned
- Victoria (9/5): Superb -
- Leonoor (10/5): Amazing! - Location, breakfast, staff/owner. Wifi wasn't really good in the room.
- Jojo (9/5): Peaceful haven amidst the rice fields - Simple and functional rooms surrounded by lush green rice fields and a great little pool for cooling off. The lighting options in the rooms could be improved (the only light source is one overhead light) and it does get a bit warm without AC but the overhead fan works well.
- Petra (9/5): The best in Ubud - We love the location between the rice fields, it was peaceful and at the same time close to everything. The house has only three rooms, so it feels private and you have your own terrace. The breakfast was the best! Only one issue was the bathroom, it is little bit small and toilet sometimes doesn’t flush
- Anonymous (10/5): The most charming homestay - Buddha Homestay ranks as the most charming place I've ever stayed on a vacation. Located in the midst of Bali's famous rice fields in Ubud, you wake to the sound of ducks in the fields, the sight of herons taking off, and sleep to the sound of cicadas and bullfrogs. Ivan, the Swiss-French owner, runs a simple house that is cleaned and maintained to Swiss standards where everything works - the bathroom, utilities, a very comfortable bed with a perfectly clean mattress and bedlinen. There are thoughtful details like insect netting over the windows and bathroom vents that allow you to keep the windows open at night without bugs. There is no airconditioning but a large stand fan was all I needed in Bali's August temperatures of 21C-25C. The garden is well tended with a profusion of flowers and a small but pretty pool that is kept very clean. My breakfast "room" was a pergola surrounded by a water feature, frangipani and coconut trees. The best part was the staff - Tini and her ladies who work in the mornings only. Thank you for your warm hospitality, delicious breakfast (love the homemade pineapple jam) and taking care of me during my stay. Unbelievable value for money, hope Ivan keeps it that way! Buddha Homestay is located off a footpath accessible only to scooters that is dotted by cafes and local warungs with delicious food from which you can enjoy sunset views over rice fields, spas and my favourite yoga studio in all of Bali, Ubud Yoga House. It's a homestay, so don't expect toiletries beyond a basic wash; bring your own if you prefer. The pool lounger needs maintenance.
- Adrian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nuwenhoud (9/5): Superb - Beautifull location, and lovely people!, great vibe.
Really enjoyed watching the birds in the garden at breakfast and the rice field vieuw Room is a little small and no aircon. Location makes up for it though :)
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laurie (10/5): Safe haven - Beautiful and peaceful safe haven in the middle of the rice field. Room is comfortable, the swimming pool is amazing, and the breakfast outside in the morning is a dream. Big up to the owner Yvan, who is very helpful and really nice to chat with. And the employees are absolutely wonderful. I recommend this place 100% and will be staying there again.
- Stephan (1/5): Bad - Could not stay there. Booking invalid. Owner said that Booking.com had made a double booking. Did not have a room available when we got there.
- Silvia (10/5): Exceptional - The owner is super kind, also staff…rooms are very clean, and light, what is very unusual in Bali. I loved my terrace, mornings full of sun and little rain. The location was perfect for me, reached by motorbike or walking people, no cars - in busy Ubud it is priceless. All the rice fields around, ducks, vegan restaurants, So peacefull and calm, I felt like in fairy tail. I regreted I did not book more nights. I will miss the pancakes witb banana for breakfast. The staff also did laundry for me, it was so good to have reallY clean clothes, I did not have to use some cheap laundry around , after long travelling it is also priceless. Pool was very clean and refreshing. I would give 15 stars to this accommodation, not just 10. For me everything was perfect, but I can imagine it is hard for some people who want to explore Ubud but they do not drive motorbike, the location is reached just by walk or motorbikes. Also rooms do not have AC, for me it is OK , and everybody who book this accommodation know it, so I am not complaining, but for some people it can be problem probably during really hot season. Everybody has to consider own priorities. I was staying here in May and the temperature at night was Ok.
- Anas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cecilia (10/5): Exceptional - The breakfast was amazing and the staff too! I love the location but it’s a little far from the main road but worths the big walk. I would like some light um the bedside table to read.
- Evča (6/5): Pleasant - Quiet place, pool We don’t have toilet paper for 2 days, we used a tissue, that was in a room. We ask for cleaning, still not toilet paper, not possible to get there with a car. So we paid more, because we put that address and a driver said, I can’t go anymore, but it wasn’t write on booking. So we paid for scooter with our large Luggages. It was horrible experience with a transport. Go to centre, if you don’t want to travel by scooter with your luggages. It wasn’t Air conditioner, it was horrible night with that. Good o
- Karin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wathian (8/5): Beautiful night skies, mesmerising fireflies and serenading crickets - Great Vibes! - Shimmering stars and fireflies filled the beautiful night skies, great vibes!
Two kittens waiting for you to be pet!
Night weather is really cooling during my stay!
Delicious breakfast included, if not enough, walk-able distance cafes are there and are opened till late night! Ceiling fan is really old but the weather kept the room cooled.
Shower heater is limited and feels like a 50/50 chance to get it going.
"Private Pool" is shared amongst the guests staying there.
- Sophie (5/5): It would be great for backpackers on a budget however if you wish for a comfortable stay i suggest looking amongst other - the placement was great in terms of being amongst the natural beauty of ubud, however quite a long walk from the main street. Bugs in the room, sound of something scratching at the bathroom window, only one ceiling fan against the heat.
- Ilan (10/5): Fairy tale worthy setting - Amazing location amazing staff amazing vibes No air conditioning but not a deal breaker as there is a fan in the room
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Guenther (9/5): Peaceful retreat - Outside of the busy chaos of Ubud, surrounding by peace and tranquility Buddha Home Stay needs some signs giving directions on the road up to it. And also be advised to hire a scooter to get up to the accomodation: a car cannot take you up that road
- Clarence (9/5): A peaceful stay with good food and coffee nearby - The area is really nice. You're in the middle of a peaceful rice paddy, there's a pond with turtles you eat breakfast by, and we enjoyed the nearby food, coffee and yoga places.
A special thanks to the really kind staff. They were incredibly nice and attentive.
It's also away from the hubbub of Ubud's main street, which is excellent. It's worth mentioning this means you'll need to walk 20 minutes to get to main street, or scooter along a narrow path that is other scooters frequent. We didn't mind this, but just pointing out for those who might be scootering for the first time. It did smell of damp in the toilet and thus in the room. But maybe that's part an parcel of being in a rice field. I'm quite sensitive to damp, but if you're not, then you'll be fine.
- Elenabefi1 (10/5): Exceptional - This place was a piece of heaven for me, close to Ubud center but surrounded by peace and nature. I felt at home, the staff and the owner are super kind, positive and always eager to help you. The house is pure magic, clean and beautiful, it was probably one of the best home stays of my life! Thank you for everything
- G (10/5): Exceptional -
- Czocherra (10/5): A magical place in the middle of the ricefields - Everything was more than perfect!
The house is located in the middle of the ricefields - during the night you can see millions of fireflies! Just magical! It’s 15 minutes away from the center! If you want to escape the busy center of Ubud - but still want be close enough to go to yoga classes etc you have the perfect place with Buddha Homestay! The owner Ivan and the 3 Balinese woman’s are so so lovely and prepare everything with a lot of love!!
Thanks for this beautiful stay!!! If we go back to Ubud, we know for sure where we gonna stay!!
- Melissa (10/5): The perfect quiet stay in the rice fields - Nice big room in an amazing location. The house is just deep enough in the rice fields not to be bothered by the scooters, the garden is very cute. The different breakfast options are all tasty and the staff is nice. Everything is at a walking distance (cafes, restaurants, workshops, spa, city center,…)
There is 24/24h access to drinking water and hot water, and possibility to do laundry for a cheap price. Maybe more information / guidance about what’s to visit in Bali.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional - This place is so stunning!! It has a beautiful fairy tale vibe to it in being in the middle of the rice fields, yet still a short scooter ride away from the main strip in Ubud. There are nice warungs and a yoga studio nearby. Ivan and his staff were wonderful hosts and breakfast was delicious! You can eat it out in the garden and it’s so peaceful. I found the property difficult to find at first due to being on a road that is only big enough for scooters to go on (not cars). Keep in mind if you were thinking of getting a taxi to the property!
- Umit (10/5): Amazing stay in the middle of rice terraces - The location and view are amazing. Breakfast was good, and the owner was very polite and personally greeted us
- Libby (10/5): The perfect stay in Ubud - Loved everything about our stay here! The location was beautiful, the staff were so friendly, the breakfast was lovely. Really couldn’t fault it!
- Rosita (10/5): Amazing location - We absolutely loved the location! Do beautiful and serene!
- Caroline (9/5): Superb - Location, Service, value for the money Bathroom could have been a little bit cleaner
- Tamara (9/5): Superb - Lovely place to stay, away from the hustle and bustle, beautiful surroundings. Staff were lovely to deal with. Recommend!
- Petrina (10/5): Gem of a homestay - A wonderful little gem of a homestay. It only has three rooms available so it's nice and cosy. A wonderful sit out area for breakfast, plus a small pool for a refreshing dip. The place has nice little touches and is super clean. Staff and owner are lovely and friendly. Highly recommend 👌
- Enkhmend (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicolae (10/5): Exceptional - Great value for money. The room is big and comfy, the house is beautiful, located in the middle of rice fields but within walking distance to what you might need.
- Nada (8/5): The cutest neighbourhood with the most beautiful rice field view !!! - The rice view is incredible !!! And the road to get there is the cutest !! It’s very authentic and calm and the same time so many cute restaurant coffee places , and yoga studios and art places! I was happy to have discover this area thanks to the guesthouse. The staff was super super helpful and availible even the management help us organisé the taxi pickup and shared many good locations with us ! It wasn’t very clean in the shower area
- Chloe (10/5): A hidden little luxury retreat. - I booked the deluxe suite, and honestly, if you can get it, do! You get the entire top floor of the house to yourself. The bed is big and comfortable, plenty of space in the room, with 2 desks if you happen to be working while there. The balcony area is also huge, with very comfortable seating and a massage table which you can book if you like.
The location of the house is wonderful, It's 1.3km off the main road, so you need a bike to get there with luggage (hosts can arrange that for you). If you don't have much luggage, it's walk-able, and it's a pleasant walk through gorgeous rice terraces with many places to stop for refreshments on the way if you want. The garden area/breakfast area is also very nice. I didn't use the pool while I was there, but it was being used by other guests and seems fine.
If you're looking for a quiet getaway with peaceful surroundings, this is it. I struggled a bit with the bathroom, the shower isn't contained and it was hard to keep the water from going everywhere. Not really a big deal, it was easy enough to clean up.
- Pei-yu (10/5): Exceptional - Love here so much! Highly recommend❤️
- Lorena (9/5): Superb -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - I stayed here for 3 weeks and it was simply magical. If you want peace and quiet away from the city center, this is the place! I loved falling asleep to the sound of frogs, cicadas, and the chorus of chirping crickets. Ivan, Putu, and Ketut are wonderful hosts and I’ll miss the yummy breakfasts and the good vibes. 💛
- Ally (9/5): It was awesome to stay here. Ivan was kind and super friendly and made me feel very at home. - The location was perfect. In the quite side of Ubud with lots of space- Nice introduction to Bali for me personally. I lost my room key and Ivan was super accommodating. This was a slice of heaven and I will definitely stay here again for sure. Nothing That I can think of
- Beth (9/5): Beautiful location and friendly staff - an oasis in Ubud! - I loved the location - Ubud can be busy, overwhelming and intense but this homestay was tucked away amongst the rice fields making it so calming and tranquil. It felt like an oasis! The staff were also really friendly - I was sick for most of my stay and I felt very cared for. There wasn't much to dislike! The only small comment was the bathroom could use an upgrade but not a big deal at all.
- Sandra (10/5): Amazing!!! a place you want to stay forever! - Buddha home is truly one of the best accommodations I have ever been to. When I arrived here, I felt right at home.
The energy of this environment is truly magical. Amidst the beautiful serene rice fields. All you hear day and night is sounds of nature.
Located in tranquillity, yet super close to the centre of ubud.
The hospitality is super!
The beds are super comfortable, everything is clean, breakfast is really good, and the swimmingpool is lovely.
A real gem, a place I would never want to leave! I will def come back! nothing!
- Lorena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stefanie (10/5): Paradise - Buddhas Home is Paradise on earth!!! Felt like coming back home. The accommodation is surrounded by nature and beautiful rice fields. The staff is super friendly and welcoming and the breakfast is sooo delicious!!!! That I couldn’t extend my stay as it was fully booked :D
- Johanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anjali (10/5): amazing!!! very friendly and helpful owner and staff. very tranquil space with lot of greenery and a pool. - set it a very peaceful and serene part of Bali…it is a hidden gem
- Abhishek (9/5): Superb location in nature - nice quiet ambience in the middle of rice field .
- Ksenia (10/5): Beautiful and peaceful - Beautiful setting and very comfortable rooms, amazing staff and great breakfasts! Super peaceful, away from the noise of town. A+ for everything. Everything was great, but note that there are fans rather than air con.
- Lenthe (10/5): Amazing place to stay to enjoy serenity and good hospitality! - Clean and comfortable place to spend some nights or longer! Extremely friendly owners and personnel! Despite it being a 15 minute walk/5 minute scooter ride to the 'main street' this accomodation is definitely to be recommended! We have encountered plenty of accommodations where we paid more for way less comfort, hospitality and serenity. You have access to cook yourself and you have acces to fresh drinking water, tea and coffee all day! The surroundings are calm, the sounds of frogs and birds whilst looking at the fireflies circling above the rice fields are mesmerizing :). We slept amazing in the king-size bed and woke up to a delicious, fresh-made breakfast! Nothing to address :)
- Regina (1/5): Cant recommend this place - Well the thing is, this place is quiet and away from city. So first of all, there is no car road to reach this accommodation. You need to have scooter!
Google maps is leading you the wrong way, as i was riding so tiny road. After i arrived, my whole body was so tense and aching because of the road, which was insanely tiny that you literally dont have space to put both legs on the ground to hold balance. And that road is 2+km long, between rice fields. After i arrived, the host wasn’t there but there was welcoming host sister, who is apparently also living there and she told me that there is actually another road which is little bit better. I took 5nights. I didnt stay there because i was so stressed out. Immediately i contact via whats app the host and asked can i please get refund as there is no way i will ride that tiny road every day or several times a day..(second road is little bit better but still there is quite a traffic and you still need to balance). And i need to mention that i am quite confident with scooters and dont make drama so easily. But this situation was little too uncomfortable. After all the host didnt care at all, didnt refund anything. He said that “lets see after few days if somebody will book this place, than i can refund you” but he actually didnt cancel my booking, so nobody couldnt book that place anyway.
Also the place is actually smaller than the picture. So that is that.
- Dintani (9/5): Strategic accommodation that feels like home - The house is very strategic and surrounded by lush green ricefield. It's located only 5 minutes from center of Ubud, 10 minutes from Ubud Palace, 5 minutes from Campuhan Ridge Walk. There's many great restaurants around the area. The garden is amazing. Ivan and two balinese ladies who work here are very helpful and friendly. It brings a great home-y vibe to the accommodation.
