Guest Reviews
- Guest (10/5): Lovely stay in heart of Cambridge - Great location, just a short walk into the heart of Cambridge. Check in easy, just visit the Porter's Lodge. Really quiet when we stayed, so had a great night's sleep. Awesome breakfast in the main hall, a better standard than any hotel ive been to, very impressed!! Rooms clean and the grounds immaculate. Do note there is no carpark, the main one is about a 10 minute walk away, but is 24hr. Would highly recommend.

- Helen (7/5): An experience to stay at a college - The staff at the college lodge were very welcoming. The room was basic but comfortable. We had a lovely view of the college grounds. It was great to be able to stay at a college. There is no TV or radio.
- Christa (9/5): -
- Tania (10/5): Lovely place to stay, great location, lovely gardens and architecture - offered something very different from a hotel. Breakfast included would have made a difference

- Anthea (8/5): - The staff were amazing and the grounds beautiful. Really secure accommodation feels very safe. Room well laid out and wonderfully clean .. The bed was a bit too soft for my taste. The location in terms of grounds is wonderful but the main road is very busy with people leaving the pubs so lots of shouting and cars racing.not the fault of the accommodation

- Mark (8/5): Nice location in a beautiful city. - Interesting to spend a day inside a Cambridge college. So clean and a nice welcome from the porters. Quite a high price for room with no tv.
- Jean-Baptiste (7/5): -
- Kerry (6/5): Nice big room, great location but too hot !! - Nice big room, clean & well equipped in a very good location. The rooms have no air conditioning and windows that don't open much. As it was hot summer weather, this made for a sweaty uncomfortable night's sleep. Fans had been requested after checking in and realising the issue, but we were told flat out that no fans were available and the place was fully booked so we couldn't be moved to a cooler room. It was obvious that the place wasn't fully booked but we didn't feel at ease to call out this fib.
Anyway, we went back to complain when we couldn't sleep in the night and a more understanding person did try to locate fans in housekeeping storage but couldn't gain access. Housekeeping eventually delivered a fan to the room the next morning. This made the heat in the room more bearable but the lack of fresh air meant the fan was mostly recycling warm air within the room.,
A real shame, as this let down what would have otherwise been a great experience.

- fiona (10/5): Beautiful place, friendly helpful staff -
- Jennie (8/5): A great experience would stay again - Great location in central Cambridge. Lovely buildings and staff helpful. Car parking option would have been very useful. Unfortunately the on-site cafe was closed.
- Ben (10/5): - What a privilege to stay in such a magnificent building in a perfect location!
- Andrew (8/5): -
- iris (10/5): Perfect glimpse into the academic charm of Cambridge - Staying at Downing College was a wonderful way to experience the academic spirit of Cambridge up close. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, and the location is perfect, just a short walk from the city centre, but still tucked away enough to feel calm and secluded.
- Guest (8/5): Enjoyed stay but would not return if heating off incase of cold or wet weather - Porters very helpful and friendly. Good very clean room on second floor that was interesting to appreciate student living and quiet.
Very small hairdryer but good mirror and socket. Fresh clean towels daily!
Good wardrobe. Heating off during May to October including heated towel rail in bathroom!
No drying facilities or heat if wet!
No.lift so case had to be taken up 2 flights of stairs.
- Ferghal (10/5): - Lovely experience. Was unsure about staying in Dormers but the place looked so good we took a chance. Grounds are stunning, we got to see Shakespeare on the grass as part of the festival and it's in town so loads of access to shops
- haiati (10/5): Excellent location and service. - N/A Excellent location, pleasant grounds. Convenient for exploring central Cambridge.

- Daria (9/5): - Centrally located, with a very clean and modern room. The staff were friendly and welcoming. It felt more like a stylish hotel room than typical student accommodation. The building had a lift, which was extremely helpful for us as we had heavy suitcases. Bed was a bit small for 2 people, but ok for 2 nights stay.

- Erica (9/5): Spotless, convenient and calm. - Our daughter staying at the campus, so it is convenient for us to meet her. It is so clean spotless! Just what we need. We are happy to stay in a very clean place!
- Angela (8/5): Most enjoyable. - We loved the architecture and ambiance of the college. It was lovely to walk around the grounds in the sunshine. The central location of Downing College makes it very convenient. Although breakfast was not available on the date of our stay we could easily step out and find somewhere close-by. We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful college and there was nothing we didn't like. It might have been useful to have a t.v. in our room had we not had tickets for an evening out.
- Craig (9/5): Exceptional student living - A great place to pretend you are a student. A peaceful oasis right in the heart of town.
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Christopher (7/5): -
- Ana (9/5): - Lovely location but booking.com could better explain how to find the reception area (very easy to miss, I wasn’t the only one wondering around trying to find it). The rooms are a bit worn out and could be cleaner, but for one night it was good enough and great location so all in all positive experience.
- Elspeth (10/5): - Super cheery and helpful porters lodge staff. Fabulous view. Comfy bed. Nice fluffy towels. Good sized room. A lovely experience. All good.
- David (9/5): Fantastic place! Crazy check out time! - Location was great and beautiful place. Porters were very welcoming and helpful Checkout at 9am was the only big issue as my wife had to stay in the car for 5 hours waiting for me to finish work. (Instead of checking out and waiting an hour or two in town for me to come and pick her up. I never stayed anywhere before with a 9am checkout
- Janet (9/5): - Beautiful historic setting. Clean and comfy room with a good bathroom. Very near to shops, cafes, eateries and the Christmas market. Helpful staff.
- Udo (8/5): -
- Jayne (10/5): Perfect in every way. - It was a little difficult to find when walking down the street, but such a wonderful surprise when I walked through the gates. Stunning place to stay. Nothing.
- Jen (10/5): - Lovely staff, lovely location, very quiet.
- Xiaotang (9/5): -
- Peter (5/5): Nice stay marred by poor sleep due to a too small double bed and an automatically lit bathroom - No complaints about the location, cleanliness and general state of the room and facilities. All very nice. The so-called double bed with a single duvet was way too small for a 'deluxe double room'. The otherwise fine ensuite bathroom had an insane automatic lighting system which meant that any quick nocturnal visit to the toilet meant being brutally awakened by at least 200 watts of bright lighting.
- Mike (9/5): Perfect - Central for Everything Cambridge has to offer. Nothing
- Manuel (10/5): - La ubicación y la cocina. El cuarto impecable.

- Soumendra (10/5): A excellent place to stay in Cambridge. - The room was very clean and comfortable. The accommodation was very close to the the city centre with free parking during our stay and there are many restaurants nearby. Can't think of anything that I din't like. I loved every thing.
- Allan (9/5): Characterful modern place to stay for central Cambridge - Good size well appointed room in central Cambridge. All good

- Lorna (9/5): - Great location for exploring. Lovely quiet, very spacious room facing the courtyard. Nice to have complimentary coffee , tea and bottled water. Air conditioning was a god send as it was exceptionally hot. Was presently surprised to have a bath and shower as only expected a shower.
College porters were really helpful and gave great recommendations for food.
Far surpassed my uni experience 😆.

- Belinda (8/5): great location in very clean contemporary student accommodation - location in beautiful old Downing College but in the modern student building. Fun friendly porters. modern building and sterile. no personality.

- Liz (10/5): Location and comfort make this a great place to stay. - It was in such a perfect location. And had all the things I need. Clean, comfy and great wifi.
Lovely helpful staff!
- Lucy (10/5): Besutiful city, great stay on a historic site. - spacious, clean, in a beautiful, historic setting central to to all the best sites. Nothing.
- Severin (9/5): -
- John (10/5): We had a very enjoyable stay in a pleasant room with helpful staff around to help us. - Breakfast not included. The room and the friendly staff exceeded expectations nothing springs to mind
- Yang (9/5): -
- Guy (9/5): Perfekte Tage in Cambridge - Ruhige Lage, nah vom Zentrum, wir waren mit unserer Unterkunftswahl sehr zufrieden -
- Ellen (8/5): Helaas hebben wij slecht geslapen. Zie boven.
- Martin (9/5): Perfect! - Location style Very warm
- YUYUN (10/5): -
- Mário (9/5): -
- Matthew (8/5): -
- Stuart (8/5): Central Cambridge with gorgeous grounds and historic buildings but modern accommodation - Location for central Cambridge. Lovely grounds that we were able to sit in and historic buildings Was a basic premier inn type room but that is what we had expected. Could have done with USB points and a better TV
- Michelle (8/5): - Convenience to town centre event
- menda (9/5): -
- Nikki (9/5): Fantastic location, beautiful environment, great provision. - Fantastic location in town and beautiful college environment. I was surprised to have AC in the bedroom, but this made an enormous difference. Also, my room overlooked the main street which I thought would be very noisy, but the soundproofing was pretty good1 Perhaps a lighter duvet for summer months would be better.

- Stephen (10/5): -
- Beate (10/5): -
- Mike (7/5): Great location, shame about the size of the bed - Location excellent, college in lovely grounds, plenty of parking, staff wonderful, able to access early, very clean Bed was smaller than queen size, barely 4 feet wide. Room was quite small too and shower was tiny
- Helt underbar miljö mitt i centrala Cambridge !
- Markus (10/5): - Downing College is an absolutely lovely place to stay! ... and by the way (if you read old reviews), the pillows were perfect. Don't miss having lunch at least once in the Dining Hall!
- Yulia (10/5): -
- Jill (10/5): Spot on - Central
- DL (10/5): A special stay on this beautiful campus. - We loved the experience of staying is res rooms on the actual campus of Downing College. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, with green lawns and lovely pathways, so special to wake up to in the morning! There was no lift for our heavy luggage (we were in transit to SA) but what would we expect in this beautiful old building!! It was so worth the lug to the second floor!
- Joanne (8/5): Ideal for a central overnight stay in Cambridge. - Location and grounds
- Jenny (9/5): Made our trip to Cambridge extra special - Excellent accommodation in a fabulous setting - made our first trip to Cambridge all the more memorable. Lovely warm welcome from the Porters who were all very friendly and helpful.
Free parking on site included.
Nice selection of bars nearby and only a short walk to the main centre. Was disappointed that due to conferences being held during our stay we didn't have the option to pay for breakfast, as I'd read somewhere that this would be taken in the College Hall, and it would have been nice to experience it. We still got to wander around the grounds though which we enjoyed.
Won't mention the pillows as I see that's already been resolved 😉 (we stayed July/August but I've only just got around to reviewing).
