Guest Reviews
- Winkie (9/5): Wonderful experience to stay a antique house with nice view - Update the food in the fridge
- Kei (8/5): - It was charming. There was a beeping noise from the water pump we understand was going to be fixed but delayed because of Easter weekend.
- Georg (9/5): Wonderful stay - The old house is beautifully renovated and furnished with stylish, antique furniture. Our room with en suite bathroom was small, but very nice and perfectly adequate for one night. Our hostess was very nice, cooked us a wonderful dinner and shared quite a bit about Māori history and culture with us. Breakfast was prepared for the next day and we finished it ourselves. Thank you so much!!! -
- Felicity (10/5): - Our host Tammie was fantastic.
- Angus (10/5): Great house, wonderful food and excellent host. - The location was great overlooking the hills and river The house had so much character and the rooms were lovely. Everything was very clean. Being able to sit out on the verandah to eat or just sit was lovely. The meals were wonderful. Bed was very comfortable. Nothing
- Michel (8/5): - Emplacement et calme.
- Larry (9/5): -
- Nikki (10/5): A great warm and loving place to treat yourself. - The dinner was absolutely supberb! The sweet kumara complimented
the fish along with roasted potatoes and blanched broccoli was absolutely devine. But the star of the night was the most gorgeous fluffy date pudding and butterscotch sauce with whip cream. The breakfast was my choice two poached eggs on toast and Utakura No7 devine honey on toast. Arohanui Nikki
- Gary (10/5): A beautiful traditional house situated in a lovely quiet location with views of the estuary. - A beautiful traditional house situated in a lovely quiet location with views of the estuary. We loved our spacious, bright, comfortable room and enjoyed sitting on the terrace listening to the kingfishers and other birds. Our host Tammy really looked after us and the food, both at breakfast and dinner, was fantastic. There is free on site parking. Leaving too soon, we wished we had booked an extra night!
- Roger (6/5): River the dog was very friendly, but we didn’t see the host till morning. - Great bed and it was clean. Beautiful view of the river and very quiet! No working outlets in the bedroom . We had requested the dinner package, as the location is fairly remote with no restaurants in under an hour. Was told just before getting there that dinner that night was not available. They were having a bbq for her girlfriends also staying there.
- Maria (10/5): Spacious apartment, delicious breakfast, welcoming host, and peaceful surroundings, a really satisf - Breakfast was plentiful with a huge variety and very satisfying. The apartment was spacious and had everything we could possibly need. Lee is incredibly hospitable, we felt instantly welcome. The whole experience was comfortable, accommodating, and very homely. The surroundings are so peaceful. Highly recommend staying here. Nothing, we had a wonderful stay.
- MattheW (10/5): - Beautiful property and location. Also excellent service.
- Daniela (7/5): Romantischer Ort mit Flair - - einmalige Lage
- ruhig
- frisch gekochtes Essen in familiärem Ambiente
- freundliche Begrüssung
- ganzes Haus zugänglich - keine Steckdosen im Zimmer

- Vanessa (9/5): Beautiful place - peaceful amd relaxing - Lee was wonderful so welcoming, friendly and cooked a fabulous dinner. The setting is gorgoeous so peaceful and quiet, very relaxing. The beds were super comfy. The room was spotlessly.clean and had everything we needed. River the dog is so gorgelus. Thank u for a lovley stay Cant think of anything we didnt like
- Diane (7/5): Lovely villa in spectacular location. - Wonderful restored old villa with spectacular views of the Hokianga harbour. Excellent room leading onto a verandah. Spotlessly clean. Excellent evening meal for $55 pp Odd arrangement for breakfast which felt more like a school camp. We stayed four nights and there was no change of towels etc until I emailed the management who responded immediately.
- Gayle (7/5): Nice place in a beautiful setting shame the woman that cooked us dinner wasnt abit more friendly to make us feel welco - Really nice old restored house Was quite expensive to stay here but not alot of choices around here. Rubbish hadnt been taken out from people that had stayed previously.
- Julie (10/5): - Definitely remote, but a beautiful home in a very picturesque setting. Very comfortable beds beautiful furnishings. We had a lovely meal and breakfast the next morning.
- Mere (10/5): Wonderful! He mihi maioha! - I love the fact that my hosts went over and above during my stay. They really looked out for me.
- Maia (4/5): -
- Mike (8/5): Very good -
- Krista (9/5): Beautiful property and country setting - My mother and I loved our stay at Riverhead Villa - was a beautiful drive out to the property and a stunning view in the country! The house is decorated so nice. Great communication from the hosts and we had dinner and dessert when we arrived prepared by our host and it was delicious! Breakfast the next morning was continental style that we could make ourselves with toast with butter/jam, yogurt, fruit and cereals, coffee, tea. The only complaint was a large family party gathering down the hill with loud music that went on to midnight. The host apologized as she said they had been celebrating pretty often lately. If leaving the windows open for a little fresh air the noice could be distracting for getting rest. We managed ok as we were pretty tired so closed the windows.
- Julie (10/5): Very pleasant. 😀 - Beautifully maintained and lovely decor and setting. Communication was often delayed and some emails kept getting repeatedly sent. Put in our choice of meals as they asked us to but we were all just given chicken. It was nice but just saying.
- Charles (10/5): Fabulous Home, great location. - When we arrived we were met by our Hostess and she invited us in and showed us around. Riverhead Villa is a multi level old home that was moved there from another location. Well preserved and maintained, it was sitting high atop a hill in a beautiful location. Since ding options nearby are non existing, our Hostess prepared a wonderful dinner for all her quests. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Breakfast was adequate and filling. If you are lo9king for an out of the way place to relax for a few days, Riverhead Villa is great. Nothing
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Very good - Stunning property with great views over the inlet, in an off the beaten path location with friendly staff and a superb dinner. A bit of a challenge connecting with the staff but extenuating circumstance and it all worked out. Big party next door late into the night which we were assured was a one-off event.
- 燕红 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (6/5): Unlikely to stay again. - Quaint, home cooked dinner. Neighbours party all night. Constant noise!
Night light on drive shone in our room all night.
- Karen (10/5): Absolutely perfect and peaceful with outstanding service from the friendly staff 😃👍 - How peaceful and beautiful the Villa and surroundings were Nothing
- Kirsty (9/5): Delightful host. Peaceful and great location on the bike trail - The host was really lovely and we learnt about the local area.
The location was perfect for our purposes - on the bike trail.
We loved the communal dining with other guests. Disorganised when we arrived, the person who was there had no idea which rooms we were staying in, and after a days hot bike riding we were keen to settle in and shower, but had to wait until host arrived.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (9/5): Absolutely fantastic house with great view and food. - We were nicely welcomed and was able to choose room. The place is one of these historic genuine places you like to live in, with this great veranda for a glas of wine, Dinner with great wiew with other nice guests and very well prepared. Breakfast was a bit hard to figure out and maybe eggs had been fine. It was cold outside, even then they kept all doors open. I have a feeling they like to air the building for better smell?
- Jim (10/5): Perfect stay for finish of bike ride or any other time.. great building and staff - Amazing building and staff… lovely breakfast and staff accommodated our request to cook with ease and even gave us a lovely dessert… spotless clean and comfortable None
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful accommodation in a magic location. Stayed here 2 nights while doing Twin Coast Cycle Trail. Arrived 11.30pm and Tammy was there to greet us and show us our room. Delicious breakfasts and dinner. Tammy even lent me her jacket as I'd forgotten to bring mine. Lovely gardens. Highly recommend this property. Comfortable beds, nicely appointed rooms and relaxing shared lounge facilities overlooking Hokianga Harbour.
- Karen (9/5): Paradise - The house, view, staff, loved it all.
- Aaron (10/5): Wonderful Northern hospitality - A lovely historic villa off the beaten path in the far north with beautiful views of the Hokianga Harbour, close to Wairere Boulders and far from the hustle and bustle. Our hosts, Anthony and his wife were absolutely wonderfully hosts and we throughly enjoyed chatting with them over breakfast. Bed was supremely comfortable! Honestly not much not to like; the room we were in was a little loud first thing in the morning but they mentioned its being fixed. The property is a little far (38km) from the nearest petrol station, so make sure you fill up before you arrive, especially at night.
- Shale (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (6/5): Interesting historical area. - Friendly hosts.
- Antony (10/5): Exceptional - We were made to feel very welcome by the hosts.
The meals which they cooked in the evening were
excellent. Relaxing stay at picturesque location.
- Jude (10/5): Absolutely loved the people, the landscape and the spirit of this wonderful place. - Fabulous immersion in wonderful hospitality - highly recommend
- Jude (10/5): The best of NZ hospitality - Fabulous location - beautiful views over the Hokianga Harbour and a wonderful cultural experience as the Maori Trust that manage this lovely home go above and beyond to look after their guests. Their hospitality (manaakitanga) is outstanding. You arrive as guests and leave as friends/family!
- Alan (8/5): Very good -
- Bob (10/5): Exceptional - This is a lovely period house that has been reolcated up onto the hill, the views are stunning. The meals we had were all great, simple wholesome food but prepeared well and served in a lovely dining room. lovely quiet spot and we enjoyed ending the day with a relaxing sit on the veranda and a good book. The room could benefit from Air Conditioning or perhaps a Ceiling Fan. We did close the windows before dusk but still picked up a few mozi bites over the bed fans do tend to stop this.
- Malhotra (8/5): 20 kms out of the way in Horeke but , very comfortable with warm hospitality n exceptional customer - Anthony , the Host , was very welcoming and accommodating to make our stay comfortable .. highly recommend this property .. even if it is 20 kms out of the way whilst driving from Reinga to Auckland ... good value with exceptional customer service ... Information on Booking Com is misleading , as this property is not in Opinini but in Horeke which is 20 kms out of the way .. compensation was the warm hospitality shown by Anthony n family at the property ..
- Adam (8/5): Great spot for one nights stay. - Lovely property and hosts who went out of there way to welcome us and share their stories.
- Karen (10/5): Wow!! just loved our stay in this beautiful old Villa - Beautiful old property with amazing history. Rooms are large and clean some with access to the wraparound verandah which was ideal for afternoon wine and river gazing. The staff are amazing! Nothing is to much trouble for them. A big thank you to Anthony for cooking a delicious dinner and breakfast also for answering all our questions about the area and the Villa. Would thoroughly recommend this accommodation. Nothing
- Katerina (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing owners
- Fiona (10/5): Highly recommend - Beautiful building in remote area.
Great shower, very clean and comfy bed. Delicious breakfast Nothing not to like
- Tim (7/5): Good -
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional well done! One the best places to stay in NZ! - The host gave a warm reception and was very helpful. Staff and family/whanau who support the B&B were very professional and demonstrated respect, generosity, care, and protection for the people who were staying at River Villa. There were plenty of topics for discussion with hosts and guests, or just finding a peaceful quiet place to read or rest. The northern walk and cycle tracks are close by. The villa is immaculate inside with surroundings of native flora outside. Not only was it relaxing it had some of the best views in New Zealand. I would describe the breakfast as higher class continental. IMHO its a good place to stay and well worth the price. I cant think of anything I did not like.
- Martin (10/5): Charming, lovely, beautiful vacation home - anytime again! - The hosts are very lovely. It's like visiting friends who help you when you need their help. Otherwise, you can enjoy your time there undisturbed on your own, with a wonderful view from the great swing on the veranda. Everything was fine.
- Melanie (9/5): Superb -
- Karin (9/5): Superb - Lovely friendly staff, who provided a delicious home cooked meal. Was great to meet other travelers around the dining table.
