Guest Reviews
- Karen (8/5): - Rural setting
Comfy beds
Spacious living area Steep staircase.
Key box in awkward place
House name is not shown
- LOUISE (10/5): Prefect stay - Perfect location
Stunning interior- very clean and comfortable Everything was perfect - only suggestion handrail on the stairs for safety & 2 more garden chairs
- Stephen (10/5): Great accommodation and situation. - The accommodation was excellent and had everything you could want (apart from a microwave?) It was ideally situated for getting to Carlisle, Brampton, Talkin Country Park and local sightseeing. The added bonus was having the brilliant Duke of Cumberland so close. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. A great place for dogs with a good size garden. Nothing to do with the accommodation or Eddie but previous, ignorant, guests hadn't bothered to pick up their dog poo. Absolutely no excuse for this. We picked up our own dogs and as much as we saw from other owners dogs. A real shame for a few idiots to be so lazy.
- James (10/5): -
- Neville (10/5): Comfortable and very close to the pub. - N/a Could have done with mats at front and rear doors to wipe your shoes
- Katie-Jo (10/5): Relaxing - Lovely and secluded, modern styling with no compromise to comfort, close drive to nearby city and towns. Really cosy. Had everything you needed within the property. We managed to prepare and cook a full Christmas dinner without using any of our own utensils / trays etc (packed just to be safe). We would definitely stay again. Only recommendation is better signage for the name of the property - if I hadn’t read other reviews about a for sale sign being on the property we would’ve had a much harder time finding which exact property it was. Neither google maps nor Waze could locate the property precisely
- Violet (10/5): The team were very accommodating and the house was gorgeous, thank you! - It’s a gorgeous little place in a gorgeous village, beds were very comfortable and the layout of the home is perfect. We found it very hard to get the heating right, thermostats were hard to use and the fire barely had a draught so we couldn’t get it lit. The cooking utensils weren’t the easiest to use but manageable nonetheless.

- Sharon (10/5): - The house is immaculate, cosy, and well equipped. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you 😊 The fact that we can't afford to buy it. 😪

- Matthew (6/5): Nice house but a disappointing experience - The house is beautifully finished and decorated. It's a cute cottage that's very spacious inside. Free parking. Well-equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. Good pub/restaurant across the road. The surrounding area is peaceful and picturesque. It was very difficult to find the place. The signage was non-existent, there was no sign saying 'Fairfield House' or even an obvious street number. When we finally figured out which house it was, we couldn't get in as we'd been sent the wrong pin code for the lock box. We spent two hours trying to get in touch with the owners/managers. Thank goodness for the help of the pub staff! Our phone reception was very poor, with no internet at all, so the only way we could get in touch was by using the pub's Wi-Fi. In fact, we were on the verge of leaving to find alternative accommodation (by then it was 9.30pm and we needed to get a good night's sleep before a long day on the road the next day). The pub actually offered us a room as well. However we heard back from the managers just in time with a new pin code. The whole thing was a comedy of errors. Next time we will go for a hotel with a front desk. Some more notes about the house once we got in: we noticed an unpleasant smell from the ensuite bathroom upstairs, it smelled like someone had smoked a cigar in there (we didn't use that bathroom as the door didn't close properly). Also worth noting that the stairs are very steep and awkward, so not suitable for those with mobility issues.
- Charlotte (10/5): Beautiful village stay - We stayed at Fairfield house as a midway point for a reunion. The house itself is beautiful, decorated extremely tastefully, well equipped, has the most comfortable sofa and beds and is very clean.
The area is beautiful with walks to the reservoir and a lovely dog friendly pub across the road.
A perfect summer stay with its large enclosed garden and it would also be a cosy winter stay with the log burner.
Would definitely stay here again
- Jennifer (8/5): Clean & comfortable cottage - Bright & comfortable space It didn’t have a washing machine, which isn’t listed as an amenity but never occurred to me that a whole property rental wouldn’t have that facility
It was hard to find the property in the village as it has no signage on it, it does have a for sale sign though which had we known would have helped us locate the property
- Kirkbride (10/5): - Everything
- Jon (7/5): Pleasant. - Well located. Rubbish from previous visitor in the bathroom.
No WiFI.
- Hollie (9/5): Overall we really loved it here and will be booking to come back. - We absolutely loved this place, it had everything inside that we could need, the garden was perfect for our dogs as is a good size and all enclosed. So close to the pub and a nice quiet village and some really nice walks around it too! We all said we’d live here if we could! There’s just a small metal table and 2 chairs outside, better garden furniture would have been great as we ended up bringing our own camping chairs and bigger camping table for the 4 of us. No keys for the bedroom doors downstairs either which would have been useful as it was super hot during our stay!
- Tom (2/5): If you need reliable basic internet and are looking to get value for your money, I’d strongly recommend looking elsewhe - The furniture is of good quality and very comfortable, and the interior was spotless, credit to the cleaner for that. We recently stayed at this cottage and, unfortunately, found the experience quite disappointing. The WiFi was unreliable from the start, barely usable on the first day, and completely non-functional for the rest of our stay. We contacted the host on the first night to report the issue but received no response, which felt extremely unprofessional, especially considering we paid over £800 for a four-night stay.
The cottage makes a good first impression, with a mix of modern features and older touches. However, the overall finish leaves a lot to be desired. Chopping boards had been used to cover holes in the kitchen, there was chipped paintwork throughout, and the patio was overrun with weeds. The garden clearly hadn’t been maintained for some time, and the upstairs bathroom door wouldn’t close properly and had a noticeable smell of mildew or mould.
We also noticed the property is currently for sale, and the whole experience gave the impression that the owner is simply trying to generate income in the meantime, rather than offering a proper guest experience. In the end, we were so disappointed that we decided to check out a day early.
- Morag (10/5): Location was near perfect and the house was lovely - Everything was near perfect for us. Clean and spacious. The weeds growing through the rear patio
A microwave would have been helpful
- Benjamin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Very spotless home lovely little Hidden treasure...everything we needed was there definitely be back
- Eliot (9/5): Superb -
- Julian (8/5): Very good - Great location for exploring the beautiful Cumbria/Northumberland borders. Great pub across the road! Internet connection kept dropping out; not the end of the world but frustrating.
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hanah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sean (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): Perfect for a quiet weekend getaway! - Stunning house in a beautiful location
- Neil (9/5): Beautiful property with a very pleasant new meets old inside. - It was spacious and convenient. I couldn’t work the log burner and we arrived at night so took us half hour to find it. Perhaps a name somewhere of the place. To be honest there is a map at the end of the road of all the properties and that’s what helped us oh and my phones light
- Selina (9/5): Lovely setting, very comfortable and clean. Everything you need in side and a drive. - Lovely house recently renovated. Very comfortable. Nothing
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Margaret (9/5): Great stay, nice location - Very nice property, loverly pub across the road. Clean and modern
- Alec (10/5): Exceptional - Everything
- Samantha (8/5): Very quiet location with a fantastic pub opposite which served lovely food and an amazing friendly welcome. Dogs welcome - The property was very clean and freshly decorated Non existent WiFi
No outdoor furniture
Would have preferred milk to Prosecco on arrival as no local amenities to pop for milk etc
