Guest Reviews
- Ryan (9/5): - Location, comfort, friendliness of staff Reception and front gate opening times were not as advertised.
- Elioth (10/5): - Las instalaciones Todo perfecto
- Cristiana Isabel (10/5): - Petit déjeuner fabuleux Rien
- Cabana (10/5): - Espectacular!!!
- sandra (6/5): Desperately in need of a refresh and deep clean - and should be 1/2 the price - Room was incredibly outdated. I checked in and ended up choosing to head back to San Jose on the late bus. The hotel clearly had some charm at some point but it had long since seen better days. The beds were clean but mattresses and pillows were ancient. The blinds did not work well and no way to keep tons of light from flooding in. Air con did not work. Bathroom had been superficially wiped clean and badly needed a deep clean. All amenities and decor need a refresh, and room and bathroom need a deep clean.
Dusche undicht. Haare am Boden. Matratzen sehr alt und durchgelegen.
- Grettel (10/5): - Lo centrico Todo excelente
- Joselyn (9/5): -
- Debra (8/5): Great value! Location was awesome (just at the end of the main drag). - Staff were very attentive and friendly. Grounds were lovely. Not right in the middle of the busy nightlife, but still with cafes and restaurants right outside the front gate. Had some trouble with the toilet, even after staff fixed it. Zero personnel on staff at night, with instructions instead to send a message through WhatsApp if any issues (meant we had to do our own toilet fix one night).
- DAVID (8/5): -
- araya cespedes (4/5): Humedad.
- Daniel (8/5): For an enjoyable beach side stay in Puerto Viejo, I would recommend Escape Caribeno. - The location of this resort was excellent and the staff were very responsive and friendly. The breakfast was a buffet style and the food was fresh and delicious. One aspect of the resort that we especially enjoyed was hearing the surf during the night, as we were in a cabana on the beach side of the main road. The resort management could provide better soap in the bathrooms.
- Conrad (5/5): I would have felt more comfortable in a hostel probably than in my single room. - The location is very central and optimal for my plans at the time The bed broke down in the night, the mosquitoes killed me (not the hotels fault but something to mention) and the rest was very mediocre, while the room felt very small.
- Álvaro (6/5): Pleasant - It was close to the downtown, the garden was well kept and the room was clean. Wifi is stable. The reservation mentions that check-in is possible until 10:30 p.m., however, the reception desk wasn't open (we arrived at 9 p.m.), and we had to wait 30 minutes for the staff to come and give us the keys. Additionally, the beds weren't comfortable, and there wasn't enough soap in the shower.
- Yuill (9/5): Walk to town, beaches, and enjoy nature . - Fresh quiet pool.
Beautiful Landscaping and well maintained
Helpful and attentive staff and proprietor.
Clean rooms,bathrooms, hot water
Access to beach paths into town or to popular beach.
Walking distance to good restaurants .
- Yuill (9/5): A well taken care of small resort with beautiful tropical garden. - Quiet and pretty pool.
Access to an almost untouched beach.
We enjoyed both the ocean fronting cabanas and the garden view.
Helpful proprietor and non intrusive staff members
Away from Beach bar noise but still good location .
Good size stand-up refrigerator Only a note, not a true dislike.
If you travel out of season- June.
Breakfast is available , but lunch and dinner are not. Lots of options in town. Short walk to great Bakery.
- Kathleen (8/5): A beautiful, peaceful stay on the Caribbean side. - The ocean side rooms are nearly right in the beach. There is a trail along the beach to get to the swimming beaches. Staff is very friendly. The road noise is very loud. There was no shampoo/conditioner included in the toiletries. The hotel is on the edge of town, not unwalkable but not super close to everything either.
- Glenda (6/5): Nice but noisy - A lovely cabin near the sea with all mod cons. An excellent pool. Unfortunately for us it was too noisy so we left earlier than planned. The place itself is peaceful but the busy road meant we didn't sleep. The host was kind and helpful but sadly no other rooms were available at that time.
- Kesala (7/5): Good -
- Mel (9/5): One night but would have liked to have stayed longer in this pretty location with swimming pool and adjacent restaurant - Pretty individual cabins and set in beautiful gardens
- Lukas (8/5): Very good -
- Jekaterina (7/5): Good -
- Hyi-won (10/5): Besides the main road a hidden gem - The garden and its inhabitants :)
Immaculate cleanliness
Good cutlery
Friendly and pofessional host/s The mosquitos:(
Mosquito nets over the bed/s would be extremely helpful.
- Lennart (10/5): Beautiful, calm retreat - Such a calm, relaxing place. Everything was arranged with a lot of love and great service. The pool is simply amazing. Also, the plantlife is very impressive and attracts a lot of exotic birds! The location is not very good if you do not have a bike or car.
The bed is great, but there is no AC... Still, very nice place for this price.
Also, the shared bathroom gets super wet once anyone takes a shower, which then leads to a million mosquitos chasing you...
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joani (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicole (7/5): Beautiful grounds and great walkable location - The gardens and pool area are absolutely beautiful, it was like being in a tropical paradise, secluded from the town. The pool was the perfect temperature and very enjoyable in the afternoons. Great location to walk to everything in Puerto Viejo, and a short drive from the Cocles and Punta Uva areas. The bungalow itself was a bit spartan. The beds were comfortable at first, but after a few days we had back aches. Having only a sheet and small pillow seems strange coming from the US, but may be perfectly normal to someone from the area since it is hot. It just seemed a bit sparse and lacking color indoors - which hadn't seemed the case from the photos.
- Diana (8/5): Very good - good location windows not tight, so ac had to work overtime to get room cool
some of group across busy road was an issue for the older people in group
- Ron (10/5): The rooms were spacious, the staff was wonderful, and the grounds were lush. - It was beautiful, near the ocean, and had a lovely pool.
- Augusta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nala (8/5): Good hotel if you want a swimming pool - Location is nice, the swimming pool is good and the garden is so beautiful. The breakfast room is beautifully decorated Staff is not very nice (breakfast and reception)
rooms are small
- Rodriguez (7/5): Good location with private cabins that can use some upgrades. - The manager was very helpful and nice. He also had a good sense of humor. The property is close to the beach and the shops. It was very nice to have our own cabin. The outdoors on the property is well kept. AC was strong. The beds were very uncomfortable, and since there are holes and cracks in the cabin walls, the bugs feasted well on us. The insides of the cabin had been cleaned well, but the furnishings are pretty old and some are kind of nasty.
- Ivor (7/5): Nice location, beautiful gardens, nice pool, definitely a nice Caribbean style experience - It was well maintained, clean, nice pool, Bed was a bit small and hard
- Danny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): While Escape Caribeno isn’t the most fancy stay it still has everything you need. All of the staff was extremely helpful - The hammock outside of each bungalow was a nice touch. The beds could’ve been a little more comfortable.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Greta (10/5): We'll come back! - Very friendly staff. It was clean and we saw a lot of animals. Thank you :-)
- Keith (4/5): Disappointing - Room lacked reliable running water and had some unpleasant looking tiny bugs
- Ella (9/5): Superb - Park like garden Expensive breakfast, 15 dollars per person is outrageous. This is not Switzerland. Or US 10 would plenplenty.
- Jaime (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anne (10/5): I will be back - Walking distance from Puerto Viejo Town Very nice garden, views and from the room you can hear the waves and congos
- Brendan (9/5): Superb -
- Ambridge (9/5): Superb -
- Anne (6/5): ok after changing Room- but not as expected based on the description for the rooms on the seaside. But due to friendly s - Walking distance to city. Friendly staff. We rented Room with seaview- but it turned out it was a forest with only minor views to the sea. lot of noise from road so We changed to small Room in the garden on the opposite of the street.
- Audrey (8/5): Very good - location, the nice garden, the pool too. the staff at the reception wasn’t the most friendly… but not too bad either.
non flexibility about checking when the hotel has space isn’t great. if it’s ready why not give access.
also why charging the credit card before arriving, I would have probably like to pay cash instead.
- Vanessa (8/5): was very peaceful and relaxing - the cabin is situated near the ocean, very private and clean property There was a slight smell of sewage coming from between the cabins, interrupted the outdoor sitting time
- Joshua (10/5): great stay - great place to stay to explore the area nothing
- Xio (9/5): Superb - The maintenance was really great. The swimming pool area was nice and clean.
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Easy access to the beach trail.
Easy access to restaurants in town Did not have ocean view as advertised
- Peter (8/5): No seaview but close - Comfortable beds ( Large 'seaview' cabin). Balcony with hammock
Garden
Large trees with howler - and spider- monkeys
Footpath parallel to coast - 5 min to bakery (excellent breakfasts), 10 min to center Puerto Viejo, 20 min to Cockles beach (avoids having to use the smelly dangerous street) VERY noisy street 15m behind the cabin
- Paola (10/5): Exceptional - I liked the view to the garden, the pool was clean, and restaurant was nice, it all looked fresh and clean, weather was nice, beach was near.. I would add a microwave or oven into the rooms, since food is expensive, and not available at all times..
- Stefano (10/5): Exceptional - Los patacones di Jessica!!
Really nice Place!! We enjoy It!
The food Is food, excelent breakfast.
Couzy cabinas. Great staff.
Gracias amigos
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amilcar (9/5): Superb -
- Villalobos (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome place close to the beach ⛱️ close to downtown and stores, excited and festivities everywhere. Nothing at all, the attention was awesome 👍💯
- Vidaltomas (10/5): Amazing stay - This is an amazing place! Your room is a cabin itself, you are isolated from the other guests. There is private parking for your car and a great swimming pool area with restaurant (good food!). Staff is super nice and willing to help at all times with everything. The place is near bars and restaurants, and walking distance from the beach. I would 100% go back! Nothing, they were great.
- Elena (5/5): OK for one night - fab garden, good swimming pool, delicious breakfast and dinner. Nice staff.
Really beautiful outdoor arears Room was really little and dark with old worn-out furniture, old shower bed was uncomfortable, The bungalow is too noisy ( due to open arears )
No shower gel , no bottle of water ( $ 90 per night rate) We have to ask for cleaning and dry towels ( after the day without any cleaning)
From our experience, the hotel is overpriced for it's facilities It's better outside than insight !
Also the closest decent beach ( where is possible to swim ) is about 15 min walking
- Guillermo (9/5): Superb -
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, very friendly and accurate staff, nice pool and beautiful gardens
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cerridwen (9/5): Beautiful bungalows close to everything! - Love the bungalow style accommodations, great location close to both downtown Puerto Viejo and Playa Cocles, there were sloths ON the property in the trees, quiet at night, secure, A/C, good food, nice pool, mosquitoes nets if you want, but most of all…
ARGELIS! This man absolutely made our trip. He was working quite long hours that week and still took time to help us figure out what to do and planned so much for us, whether tours or transportation. He knows all the right people in the area so if you want to see Cahuita, sloths, chocolate farm, or just a good restaurant nearby, he’s your guy. Thank you again Argelis!! Pura vida. Maybe it was just the week we were there, but there was often construction starting quite early in the morning, like before 7am. Understandable given the heat later in the day, but it made it hard to sleep in at all.
Also this might just be a booking.com issue, as we were told that the room we picked with 2 beds didn’t register on their end as 2 beds, and for some reason breakfast wasn’t included even though they generally always include it. So I suggest messaging the property ahead of time to ensure you get the beds you want.
- Vidal (10/5): Great place - Great rustic feel, beautiful garden, private access to the beach and comfortable amenities.
- Karol (10/5): 10/10 accommodation for Puerto Viejo - Very good location and quality of room. The staff wa super nice.
Argelis was super nice and knowledgeable about the area. Would recommend anyone to stay here if visiting Puerto Viejo.
- Hila (2/5): Very poor - The pool was nice, also the restraunt had good food. The cabbin was located 2 meters from the main street. We didn't sleep all night since motorcycles and cars drove the street and were loud. I assume the inner cabbins are more quiet, but if sleeping at night is important to you, getting those cabbins is a risk not worth taking. Especially for the high price of this hotel. We had a very bad experience, that's too bad since the owners seemed very nice.
- Adriana (5/5): Good but I will never come back there - I really like the location, it is very clean and the pool is great The parking is not confortable, very bad for big cars and also they charge me $1 for tap water refill, I did not understand this policy very unfriendly. The mattress and pillow can be better, I stay in several places for same money with better quality,
- Kimberly (9/5): Superb -
