Guest Reviews
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Jackie (7/5): Choose the Discovery for a great budget hotel right in the middle of all the action - For a super budget hotel this place is perfect. The location is its best feature being right in the middle of the backpackers/foreigners/tourist area for restaurants, bars, souvenir shops and people watching like crazy. The staff are super friendly and helpful. My room was what they called a single and literally not more than about eight feet wide for a twin bed and small walk space. But lots of room for luggage under the bed and a small refrig and small adequate bathroom. Mattress is a saggy thin 5" or less and the pillow is typical of Vietnam hard as a rock. But for the cheap price and location its all very worth staying here. I come back every year twice now and stay on and off for days at at time while I do all the tours and people watching I need. Luggage storage is never and issue and the owner can arrange all kinds of tours for you as well as get you a shuttle to and from the airport. I hated the pillow,,,just saying. I didn't like staying on the fifth floor but then comes with the territory. My TV had only Vietnamese language channels and again comes with the territory. Guess I am way too spoiled.
- Ariel (7/5): Good -
- Athmanundh (4/5): Very disappointed - No breakfast The bedsheet had ants crawling on it and had to be changed. The bed was a hostel type bed with a thin mattress. Very uncomfortable. Room was tiny.
- Brody-ogborn (9/5): It was great value for money stay in an amazing location! Highly recommend. - The room was very clean. One of the best showers I have had on this trip as well. Very good value for money. Bed was comfortable and big. And the room was very spacious! The only negative was booking transportation to the airport. We were asked probably like 10+ times if we would like to book a 4 person car to the airport for 290,000 dong or a 7 person van for 350,000 dong. We kept saying we have to check with our friends as they are arriving later in the day and we will talk to them then. Finally we talked to our friends and decided to do the 7 person van and pay the 350,000. Then in the morning as it is time to leave, a 4 person car shows up to take us to the airport... Luckily we were able to get our money back and just booked 2 Grabs to the airport. But what I would say is I recommend just getting Grab's to the airport rather than booking through them as we did not get what we asked and paid for.
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very helpful and friendly. The bed and room very comfortable
- Ngoc (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lee (5/5): Passable -
- Paul (9/5): Brilliant hotel. - Lovely hotel, very helpful staff, comfortable bed, very effective air con, great value, and very clean.
We booked airport taxis at excellent prices and a trip to ha long bay, which was brilliant đ.
We would warmly recommend this hotel, in fact we booked for our two days in Hanoi at the end of our adventure. We didn't mind, but there are a lot of steep stairs and no lift.
- Sneer0101 (8/5): Very good -

- Li (6/5): Was fine, but wouldn't stay again. - Location is very central, single rooms have some decent storage. No house keeping during the 8 nights I stayed, I had to ask for a clean towel, replacement toilet paper and for bin to be emptied. I was on the top floor so a a lot of steps. Ask for low floor if you suffer from mobility issues.
- Stefan (9/5): A really well-organized compact place to get some rest and reach anywhere pretty fast - There are plenty of advantages:
- The position is crazy good, you are right in the old quarter
- Even though the building is close to a club, I didn't hear any noise
- My room was really small, basically a matchbox but it was really well compartmented, you basically have everything that you need in a really small place.
- The staff is extremely helpful and kind - I took some spontaneous decisions leaving on my last day at 6 a.m. and I needed to use their laundry services, so they managed to clean all my clothes [also a pair of shoes] by 10:30 p.m. [so less than 24hrs and they were nicely packed and dried] and one of the receptionists even slept on the couch in the reception so I can do the check out which I really appreciated. - Even though it didn't bother me that much, there are no windows in this room, but that can affect you only if you want to spend more time in the room, I personally wasn't bothered by this aspect.
- My work needs a strong wi-fi and unfortunately wi-fi is not that great, but you're located in a place where you can find a lot of great places with strong wi-fi so you're just minutes away from a coffee shop or other place with better wi-fi.
- This is just a minor inconvenience which didn't bother me but I saw other people mentioning it - the place has a vent and also AC, when it comes to AC sometimes the remote controller might not work but you can just solve it by taking the batteries out and putting them back in :)) and everything is fine.
- Stephanie (8/5): Good - Was a very clean and comfortable room with a tv as we used this room for a layover before heading to the airport.
It was spacious and the bathroom was clean with a hot shower.
- Jenny (10/5): Type of place you extend the stay - perfect location on busy street, room was large with a fridge, cold AC good WiFi! The lady at reception was very helpful speaks great English, she recommended and arranged trips and transport for us ! lovely stay âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ all was perfect
- Philip (7/5): Good - Very handy location. A little noisy at night with beer street just 20mtrs away. Musty smell in room. Very old, thin towels
- Yau (8/5): Very good -
- Jackie (10/5): The Discovery is the perfect place to stay a few days in the middle of the Old Quarter. - Loved the staff for being so helpful with answers for questions and carrying my luggage up the steps.
- Tarun (7/5): Good -
- Jessica (3/5): Poor - The single room I had was without windows, moldy smell, not pleasant.
- Anisha (9/5): Superb - Great location and good value for money. Cindy Le, the host, was particularly nice, attentive and helpful during our whole stay.
- Frankie (10/5): 10/10 - One of the best host/hostess we've ever dealt with. Cindy was available on WhatsApp pretty much 24/7. Even before our arrival she was helping us plan and book things and even helped us with an itinerary and future bookings in other areas of Vietnam. We arrived in the middle of the night because of flight delays and she made sure someone was awake to let us in and even let us check out a little later. She was just the best and did everything she possibly could to help us. On top of all that, the room was big! And clean and comfortable! In the main area of madness that is Hanoi but up a little side alley and surprisingly quiet! 10/10 â¤ď¸
- Devi (9/5): Superb -
- Claudia (3/5): Wouldnât recommend this unless youâre budget travelling. - The property was right in the middle of Hanoi, close to Beer Street which was really helpful. The location did pose a few issues with noise, however, nothing major. The room was quite dirty and had mould over the roof and air conditioner. The bathroom was horrible with the shower head covered in black grime and positioned right over the toilet seat. The drain in the bathroom got clogged in both of our rooms so whenever we showered we ended up standing in a pool of water.
- Jules (6/5): Pleasant - There was hot water. Very noisy.
- Pananjaya (7/5): Good -
- AndrĂŠ (8/5): Very good - Great location in the heart of the Old Quarter. Super friendly and supportive staff, always available. Also organised my pickup from the airport. Single room has no window unfortunately.
- Nila (7/5): stay was okay. the staff was very accommodating though. helping me carry my stuff up the stairs and arranged a drop off - it is located right in the old quarter beer street which makes it very accessible and safe to go home even late at night. but heads up, it can get too crowded the room and atta bed bathroom is very small but it was good for me as im alone however i felt like the sheets werenât that clean and i felt a bit itchy with it. the blanket were too thin as well.
- Roberta (7/5): Good - The place is very, very central in the amazing beer street, with walking distance to everything in the old quarter. The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was very comfy. The hosts were very helpful with everything, and their prices to the cruises and sightseeings, etc, are quite reasonable compared to other agencies. There is a bit of noise from the bars, but you won't notice it if you are a party animal. It is on beer street after all.
- Tiphaine (2/5): Wet and moldy - Owner was kind enough to cancel my booking when I told her I wasn't going to stay. Single room is completely different from the photos you'll see while browsing ; Humidity and mold all over the place, no window or ventilation in the room ; my clothes where wet in the morning.
- Aoife (10/5): Great location, comfortable stay - In the heart of Hanoi Old Quarter, basic rooms, comfortable bed, really helpful host. They booked a taxi to the airport for us and weâre very helpful with our luggage. Could not fault the place. Would defiantly recommend.
- Jia-jiun (7/5): Good - The accommodation location is good. The surrounding environment is not good. There are many vendors and cars and motorcycles at very late night. However, the windows are airtight, no big noise issues.
The bed is not very clean, there are dust and hair.
- Lena (7/5): Good - Small room in the center Room was really hot despite AC
- Alex (10/5): Amazing location, great excursions. - Cindy (the host) is one of the most accommodating hosts we have had since being in Vietnam. I would especially recommend booking excursions in northern Vietnam through her as they are often cheaper than other travel agencies and amazing value. Not much
- Antti (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christian (9/5): Superb -
- Olle (8/5): Very good - The place is right in the action area. The room I had was very very small, althought everything needed was there
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brett (6/5): Good for a cheap private room in old quarter, but not very comfortable - Itâs in a great location close to everything and is really good value for money. The bed was comfortable as well It was super loud due to how close it is to the party street and the rooms arenât soundproof at all. The doors to hallway are semi transparent meaning the light shines in so it wasnât possible to make the room completely dark.
The walls had gross splatter stains on them so I donât think it gets cleaned very well..
- Jessica (7/5): Good - Comfortable, large room within walking distance to main sites of the old quarter. Lots of coffee shops and restaurants close by, walking distance to weekend night market. This property is on a very busy street at night (just off Ta Hien beer street) and so the room is very loud until about 12pm. Great location if you want to go out but not if you want an early night.
- Atul (7/5): Good location, clean -
- Magda (6/5): Pleasant -
- Dawn (9/5): Great budget hotel which central to everything - The owner spoke really good English and was able to help with information on treking and tours. She also can book for you for good prices. We contacted her after we booked to organise our taxi to the hotel. We had a driver waiting for us with my name on arrival. The location is fantastic, and close to where the bus departs for Sapa. We decided to stay again on our final night in Hanoi, before going back to the UK. Friendly, good location and great value for the money!
- Amelia (10/5): A must stay for backpackers! Cindyâs travel experience made our trip! - The property is a basic hotel room. Clean and spacious in the double rooms. Perfect for backpackers. Please note there are steps and no lifts to the room. The TV has English channels which we didnât find in other hotels. Cindy the owner was super helpful during our stay. We booked the Ha Giang Loop and Ha Long Bay Cruise through her and got some great deals. We payed a fraction of the price compared to the travel agencies. Cindy is knowledgeable and great with recommendations and any questions we had and made the start of our Vietnam experience enjoyable. I would recommend this place for backpackers both solo and couples.
- Mike (10/5): GrÊât location, grÊât staff - Location is perfect if you want to visit the old French quarters you can pretty much walk everywhere from here. Rooms are good staff is nice. A+++
- Glauber (10/5): Amazing place to stay in Hanoi - I like the cleanliness of this property and how attentive are the staffs and I booked many day trips from
There too ; which was quite handy
- Glauber (10/5): Exceptional -
- Xavier (8/5): Perfect stay to visit Hanoi city - Very good value for money. The hotel is in old quarter so itâs very easy to go to most places walking. Lots of restaurants and bars around. Wifi is not very good
- Chen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pk (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marta (8/5): Some of the rooms donât have windows and the doors are partly glass so there is light in the room. - Very helpful and friendly staff. That place is located near very noisy streets,so itâs loud until midnight.
- Doina (5/5): You can find something better - The location is ok The room was really small. For sure wasnât not the one on the picture.
- Aditya (9/5): Superb - The stay was great and the lady at the reception was very sweet and helpful. It exceeded my expectations as far as budget hotels go. The bed was comfortable, room clean, and no disturbances despite being right on the beer street. Would definitely recommend if you was a nice place to stay in a budget.
- Frederic (3/5): Wonât book this room again - Location, decoration, room size Bathroom bad quality, no aeration, no elevator, no windows
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, very friendly staff
- Petter (9/5): Superb - The staff were very helpful and kind. I got a lot of information and help with booking excursions and transportation. I didn't get the AC to work but I got a fan instead.
