- Aliasgar Godhrawala (10/5): Feels Like Home – Thanks to Hubert & Isabella Hostel - The vibe of Isabella Hostel was amazing – super cozy, fun, and perfect for meeting fellow travelers. The highlight, though, was Hubert’s hospitality. He’s not just a great host but also a wonderful person – always helpful, friendly, and full of positive energy. He made me feel at home from the moment I arrived, and his guidance about Shillong and local spots added so much to the trip. Honestly, nothing worth complaining about – it was a great experience overall.
- Valavoju (7/5): Live Like there's no tomorrow. - This was my first solo trip and I got to connect with new people and listen thier stories and the host was really Nice.
worth it. and it's in city centre. got home with lot's of memories. They also organize trips to popular tourist spots, waterfalls and offbeat beautiful locations,

- Auritra (9/5): Great stay. Very helpful - Great vibe. Helped me out with my entire trip too from itinerary to scooter rentals. The place to go a a solo traveller. Washrooms could be cleaner.

- Sri (1/5): Bad - Nothing This is NOT a hostel. But a small, unhygienic and shitty property hosted by very arrogant and disrespectful people ('Raj' and his brother). I am a backpacker and have been traveling throughout India for a few months, also stayed in Meghalaya for a few weeks, have never met more arrogant hosts or more unhygienic property anywhere else. Read through to get an idea of property.
** Washrooms - All the guests in the property and a neighboring family share the same '2 washrooms!' If you are lucky you may find them clean. A small common area is right in front of the washrooms, so naturally any guests will sit and spend time there which makes it very inconvenient for others to use washrooms.
** Beds - The dorm beds are unhygienic. The bed sheets were full of stains, I am not sure if they clean them. Blankets are never changed for sure.
** Rooms - The property has only 3 small rooms with a temporary roofing sheets roofs. Rooms are small in size and unclean. One of the rooms looks more like a dharamshala than a hostel.
** Online - The property is listed only on booking.com and nowhere else like MMT, goibibo, agoda etc. which itself is a big red flag. I think the other sites will not even qualify this as a property or they may have took it down due to negative ratings.
** Female travelers - No female travelers will stay here, even if someone checks in by mistake, they will move out within a day. The safety and other reasons are already explained by another fellow traveler in one of the reviews so I will not get into those details again.
** Dogs - There is a couple of dogs, one right before hostel and the other inside hostel. They barked out of nowhere, I think they won't bite, but it definitely scares people.
** Experience - We paid full amount in advance for next day to book 2 beds.

- Jamal (8/5): I stayed at Isabela Hostel for three days during my Meghalaya trip, and it was truly an exceptional experience. The host - N/A N/A
- Deepak (8/5): A good Stay with nice people and Host - There were few things:
1.First of all the host is a nice guy and helps you to plan your day.
2. The staff is chill and you can enjoy a drink in common area.
3. Bathrooms were clean and i have seen them cleaning it alot of times.
4. It’s a bit far from centre and around here alot of cafes and other spots where young people chill, so if that is your vibe this place will be nice for you.
5. Met some nice travellers there and enjoyed the company, and i am sure you will find someone too as this hostel have that pure traveller vibe. I think this is the first proper hostel i found in north east in my whole trip. Few things i think people coming here should know:
1. This hostel is 2.6 km from police bazar so if you would like to stay near centre you should opt for something else.
2. I think the common area is a bit small for a hostel. Even though they have small cafe type where you can sit and order food.

- Joydeep (8/5): This homestay is very good place to stay if not my problem is not somebody’s problem.Recommend otherwise - Affordable and good for solo travellers with shared room. I’m a little more not comfortable if anything isn’t hygienic & cleaned. It like very cleaned washrooms else I avoid.
Other thing is the locker.
Owner may please look into these..
- Ronnie (10/5): Really great hostel experience in Shillong. Glad to see hostels begun to crop up there - Really understanding and accommodating staff. Na
- Pardeshi (9/5): Superb - Good place to stay for solo travelers
- Pushyamitra (8/5): Very good - Near center No person at the time of checkin
- Krishna (9/5): Superb -
- Mukherjee (8/5): Very good -
- Aa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chinmay (7/5): Good - Good value for money Someone should be there to attend the guest.
- Susmita (1/5): Worst stay - Nothing Being a solo traveller, I used to stay in hostel most of the time. I can guarantee this is a worst hostel stay ever I had. The property doesn't looks like same in the image. When we reached the fresh bedsheet was also dirty. Although after asking them they changed the bedsheet. We were 9 groups of people, if we even chit chat will make sound. If that is residential area, then they shouldn't open hostel there. There is no common place to talk. Many bad things, can't explain more. Will suggest not best place for group travelers.
- Soham (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anand (7/5): Good - Toilets need regular cleaning. A separate toilet for the cafe is encouraged. And, put posters all over so people know they have to keep the place clean. Also install hooks in the room for hanging clothes.
- Marwari (8/5): Very good -
- Bruno (1/5): Bad - I arrived and couldn't find anyone to check in. Finally a guy appeared and told me their permission for foreigners had expired so they couldn't host me.
- Pauls (6/5): Pleasant - The pricing, location, cafe People drinking in the dormitory, making noise
- Dushyant (9/5): Superb -
- Basu (10/5): Exceptional - It's a home away from home
- Raj (9/5): Best place for the people who are travelling solo and looking for a budget stay - Iam grateful for their Hospitality
I stayed for 4 days, but I kept my laguagge for 4 more days
- Nirban (9/5): Superb -
- Gunisetty (10/5): The best backpackers hostel experience I've got here! - If you're a solo traveler seeking the ultimate hostel experience, look no further! My stay at this hostel was nothing short of amazing. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warmth and enthusiasm that instantly made me feel at home. And the people here, the hosts are amazing!
The vibe here is unbeatable – it's lively, yet cozy, with just the right balance of social interaction and personal space. Whether you're mingling with fellow travelers in the common areas or unwinding in your own pod, there's always a sense of camaraderie that permeates the air. This hostel is the perfect place for vibing. I can't wait to return and soak in the incredible vibes all over again! I didn't like me to leave this place 😭
- Chandan (8/5): Very good - It's situated around 2 km from Police Bazar and you can easily access all the nearby places. The place is nice, clean, bright and comfortable. The staff is very kind. You can eat, talk with other guests, and relax. Staff will give you proper details of what you should explore and how to reach etc.
You can rent bike from the hostel itself.
I loved my days here!
- Ojha (10/5): Overall super fun - Great team Cafe opens late
- Vishant (10/5): It was a comfortable stay - Isabella hostel is a good and economical place for backpackers, Host Hubert is professional and friendly.
I will recommend Isabella hostel if you are travelling solo to shillong.
