Guest Reviews
- Maharani (8/5): - The owner and the staff were very helpful to us. Location-wise was also good.
- Jon (6/5): better than a usual hostel - clean and spacious rooms, nice hosts, good dining room space, dinner table, kitchen well equipped including 2 fridges and stuff to cook with and heat up with, lounge room, laundry use for free (during certain hours). location was good. It was like staying at a hostel but better with clean, spacious and nice rooms but with all the other usual hostel issues - mouldy bathroom, wee on toilet floor, young adults not deciding to change toilet paper (in any of the toilets) and not put away dishes, curly hair on toilet seat. Not the accomodation itself, but just the guest demographics and reflective of good pricing (and nothing else was available to book). No Japanese guests stayed here so you miss an authentic stay if that's what you are after.
- Franka (7/5): - Location! Shared bathrooms
- Kazuko (2/5): No choice - Good location but you can’t get to this place by car so you need to walk with your luggage. The manager was friendly. Unfortunately, we didn't experience the level of customer service or hygiene in all areas of this accommodation that we expected. We didn’t receive any assistance with rubbish collection or towel replacements, despite paying around $500 per night. We hope these aspects can be improved for a better stay in the future. There are only small washing machines and dryers, certainly not big enough to cope with the amount of washing for the family ski trip.

- Emma (2/5): Avoid this place if you want a secure room, warm showers and a cleaned toilet! - Location to the snow slopes and restaurants was good. Hence why this place got a 2/10 Where do I start.
1. We didn't get our room key until the third day. We asked multiple times for it and were told it would be in our door soon. Nope, had to keep asking.
2. Our room had those traditional Japanese window shutters (whitish material) which is fine but considering the street lights at night were SO bright our room was also SO bright. Literally like sleeping with a light on. Very noisy.
3. The entire place was dirty. I don't think they had cleaned the toilets the entire season, dried urine all over the seats. The kitchen was also gross. The owners had left food in the airfryer and rice cooker overnight. There was only one flimsy dish brush and was usually covered in food scraps or scum. Dishes were left in the sink every day.
4. The hot water system for the showers and bath stopped working for about 3 days. So no hot showers....
5. When asked about local knowledge like where to go for dinner or what local mountains are good for skiing the answer was "oh I'm not sure" or they were never around to answer questions.
6. The heater in our room could not be altered (the adjustment buttons were inaccessible) so our room would get really hot but then cold.
7. No breakfast included despite it being in the description when we booked. When asked we were told "I'm not sure why but a lot of people think breakfast is included...but it's not"
I understand you get what you pay for and this place is cheap. However even with cheap places I expect to be able to lock my room, have access to warm water and have a somewhat clean kitchen / bathroom.
- Donna (5/5): - Close to ski lodge Not clean
- Clancy (10/5): -
- Jian Wen (6/5): - Toilet issnt clean.

- Chun Chi (3/5): -
- Tania (5/5): - Good location Showers pretty basic. Ran out of hot water

- Kenton (9/5): Basic Lodge but Amazing Value for Money in a Perfect Location -
- Judith (6/5): All about the location - Great location on Matsuba Dori so 100m to main st & 300 to gondola. Friendly Aussie hosts.
Excellent drying room - big and hot. Cleanliness - toilets dirty under seat, around taps slimy brown, overflowing bin.
Beds overly firm. Need wider doonah on big bed (or 2 smaller ones).
Pathway in via snow tricky until graded.
Details on booking.com said daily continental breakfast served but non-existent so owner (not hosts) needs to update this info.
Not up to par compared to Japanese run lodges.
- Pascale (9/5): - Great location, just a short walk downhill into town and to the bus stop and an even shorter walk uphill to the main Nozawa gondola which gets you straight up on the mountain. Super friendly staff and cosy rooms, the pretty view we had out our windows was a bonus :) Huge dry room too. We'd love to come back someday, thank you! Shower water pressure wasn't great
- duignan (10/5): - Amazing staff ! I didn’t stay longer
- Corena (7/5): Wonderful stay in a lodge close to gondola - Michael was an excellent host and was very helpful during our stay. We had an issue with finding my son's snowboarding boots after they had been moved by another guest and Michael was extremely generous, lending my son his own boots to borrow for the day so that he didn't miss out. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with plenty of hanging/storage space and a great drying room downstairs. The bathrooms were shared but that was not a problem at all, although the vanity areas could have been cleaner (they were quite dusty). The shared kitchen was well equipped and clean, for making your own breakfast/meals. Overall a great stay, in a fabulous location just a few minutes walk from the gondola, shops and several local onsens.
- Douglas (8/5): - Very welcoming and a beautiful lodge! So close to the ski hill and restaurants No car parks
- Martin (10/5): Excellent great location to gondola and village - Michael and the team were very hospitable
- Haldane (8/5): -
- Kapil (2/5): - The property needs to be cleaned daily. The laundry is visually dirty. The toilet floors are not cleaned or wiped even when they are shared facilities.
- Ben (9/5): - Great location and host was a legend. Huge lounge room with lots of board games and a TV. Beds were comfy as
- Adam (8/5): Fantastic trip fantastic host. Great location. I will be back. - Super close to the hill. And great location to Main Street and town. Great host Micheal and his son. Would have liked to see a bit more room in the dry room to store gear and heat on always.
- Sherida (5/5): - Location was amazing Not clean
- Joshua (5/5): Unhygienic and last second accommodation choice - Location Unhygienic: a lot of stink bugs appeared in my room often
- Sienna (10/5): Comforting and easy - Loved the company from the Lodge Staff (Leki and Michael)
- Jenn (10/5): - We got a large room and it was very spacious and the bed were on the floor, but so comfortable! The view of the snow was also amazing to wake up to, every morning. The staff was also super helpful and check-in was super smooth. The showers are shared with others, but one at a time and there is one shower room that is for one person at a time and can be locked. The location was also amazing. It's a little bit up a hill so taking a lot of luggages to the lodge might be hard, but walking down to the main street for food or for ski/snowboarding is amazing.
- Finley (8/5): -
- Shannon (2/5): Like staying at a dirty backpackers . - The location is the only great thing about this property. It wasn’t clean & it smelled. Shared bathrooms weren’t clean. For the same price we had stayed at a beautifully maintained lodge just up the street. It felt like staying at a backpackers with our kids.
- OOHIRA (5/5): -
- moriwake (5/5): まあまあ - キッチン リビング ダイニング自由に使用が可能 何事も自由

- Sian (6/5): Has potential to be a great guest house - The location was great (close to gondola), the beds were comfortable and the staff were nice when we saw them. The lounge room was a nice warm comfortable room to hang out in with a big tv. The kitchen and entry lobby were freezing all the time. The bathrooms were dirty and toilet paper wasn’t restocked. The breakfast was very basic (cereal and toast) and on the last two days we were there the bread and milk had run out and the staff didn’t replenish them (even though we asked) so we had to go out for breakfast. The staff really need to be more present.
- David (2/5): We had fun skiing but we were disappointed by the facilities at Sakurasou. I’m - The lounge was full of drying laundry but it was warm unlike the rest of the house. Our rooms was very cold so we had to sleep in our clothes and the staff was not awake until noon. The toilets also smelled like urine and sewage.
- Tetiana (5/5): -
- Daniel (8/5): Friendly snowboarding guesthouse - Very friendly easy-going host, relaxed welcoming feeling around the guesthoușe.
The simple help yourself breakfast was a nice surprise even if a bit hit & miss what would be there each morning! The guesthouse is quite basic & functional with international feeling, rather than being a local Japanese run guesthouse.
- CHIHCHIEH (1/5): 千萬不要來住。你們絕對會後悔! - 沒有滿意 櫃檯長期沒人,早餐非常差,房間衛生很差,廁所衛生很差,浴室衛生很差,水很小
- Clinton (5/5): Pretty misleading and overpriced but if you were with a group and didn’t care about not actually getting breakfast when - Convenient location They hadn’t prepared my room when I arrived. They shouldn’t really call it “breakfast included” when it’s just corn flakes, granola (not even milk) and strawberry jam in a shared, hostel-like kitchen and it’s impossible to know what’s free to consume or if you’re going to be eating/drinking some other guest’s food. I couldn’t even figure out if there was communal coffee available and just had to buy it from a vending machine.
- Olivia (9/5): -
- Emanuele (10/5): -
- Alexandra (7/5): If you’re here to stay the night and the whole day is to stay out, it’s a good stay as it’s close to the slopes - Room was spacious and storage room was convenient Check in process was abit difficult as no staff was present for check in
- jordan (10/5): Thanks to the team for making this trip one of a kind. I'll be back for sure. Mucho thanks :) -
- Oh (5/5): Good location despite lack of cleanliness and room security. - Good location to the village and the Nagasaki Gondola 5 min to either. Staff was pleasant. Nice dry room and ski equipment storage in the basement. Rooms were large. Western beds and floor futons were comfortable. Unclean sinks and bathroom. Men and women’s bathroom are shared with urinals exposed to the stalls. Slippers should be provided at least in the bathroom. The sink area and floors were dirty.
No locks on the doors of the room. The room has large collection of dust on the floors especially not ideal when sleeping on floor futons. Concerning amount of mold on wooden window frame. Tatami mats showed their age with frequent shedding of straw fibers.
- Laird (9/5): Great ski cabin for travelers! - This place was rad! Located in the perfect zone in Nozawa! Great gear storage room and the common areas were nice. The staff was great as well. Would recommend this place to anyone!
- November Foxtrott (8/5): Good value for money with some opportunities for improvement - All in all good value for money. Great location. Nice ryokan style rooms. Shared toilets are clean. I would stay there again, even though there a things that could be improved. Not a single hook in rooms to hang towels or ski clothes, no hairdryer. "Included breakfast" is toast and cereals. I haven't seen a single member of staff during my stay, which made me a bit uncomfortable because I couldn't ask questions, e.g. how to use the water cooker which is all in Japanese or how to regulate my heater.
- Charles (10/5): -
- Frederique (7/5): Overall a very good stay - Fantastic location, well heated bedrooms, cosy common room with games and Netflix, good breakfast with toasts and cereals, helpful staff. Freezing kitchen / breakfast area (but was heated when I asked), shared toilets, very dirty bathroom sinks/basins area, low pressure in the shower. Dusty tables in bedrooms. No slippers. No view despite having booked garden view room.
- Samuel (10/5): Clean, comfortable and great location. Staff were great. - Clean, comfortable and great location.
Staff were great. Nothing
- Sophie (9/5): -
- TANO (9/5): -
- Sarah (7/5): A good lodge with friendly staff that is in a great location between the slopes and Nozawaonsen village! - Excellent location and awesome staff! Maddie was very welcoming and accommodating! Room size and bed were also very comfortable, especially the pillows, and spacious! The common lounge area looked comfy and like a fun place to hang out with a group. The WiFi was reliable and fast too and the lodge had a spacious and adequate storage/dry room for our snowboards and gear A bit hard to find at first but once located, in a great spot! One of the shared showers had poor water pressure and generally, and did not expect the showers and bathrooms to be co-ed shared facilities. While the rooms were clean and came with fresh linens, towels, and toiletries kit, the shared showers and bathrooms could’ve have been cleaner and updated. Certain parts of the lodge felt like it was still undergoing interior re-design. This might be nit picky, but would’ve appreciated some inside house slippers, especially going into the bathrooms, because the common areas (hallways, bathrooms, kitchen, lobby, etc) were not very well heated, so often walking around inside our socks. The heater in the room worked just fine though. The price was also not bad considering the short notice of our booking (within 24 hrs of travel)
