Guest Reviews
- Gates (7/5): - Location Small
- Ian (9/5): Great little property, ideal for a few nights stay. - Great location in the centre of town. Clean, comfortable and well presented, well equipped kitchen. Bed was really comfortable, albeit a bit small.
- Patricia (8/5): -
- Tony (4/5): Not up to the standard I was expecting - Was not provided with any breakfast
Location was fine, near the town centre the access code to the property could have been given sooner - why wait until I had arrived
TV faulty when I arrived. Was assured an engineer would come next day to fix it but for some reason never appeared
This no show went on for the next few days but by then I'd given up any hope
Needless to say TV still faulty when I departed
Also cooker seemed unnecessarily complicated to operate. Found the instruction manual but could not make any sense of it so had to resort to eating oven meals instead
Thank god the weather was good otherwise the whole experience would have been pretty depressing
Could not fault the tidiness of the place but in my opinion that should be a given anyway
Whoever my successor is has my deepest sympathies
- Katie (7/5): A cozy flat in a seaside town. - The property was clean and cozy. The area was a lovely little town. Organising and communication was good and helpful with the parking. It would have been great to know more about the parking beforehand, just a little more detail, and a bit more guidance on finding the property would have been helpful. The pictures didn’t do the size justice and it was a little smaller than expected. Whilst it was listed that there were no toiletries, there wasn’t even any hand soap or additional toilet roll (which I could find) which surprised me. The WiFi connection was not stable and the front door lock felt inadequate. The heating was not on so the property was exceptionally cold when we arrived, and took some time to heat up. Also, because the fridge was not on, it also took a long time to refrigerate the food we bought.
- plant (8/5): Bed was a wanna take home ! - A bit concerned about a flat. but very quite, seemingly no one above other either side, as hall was space, and in court alley way, Im not one for central heating! but it was cold outside as out a lot with my photography, on return within a few mins very warm and cozy. once put on
Owner very amicable, good range of kitchens appliance, and thoughtful cutlery, plates and dishes
So all in all a cosy, clean, well placed for my needs ie close to the coast wall, train station pubs, and good ol BNM.s cash dispensers,
Did read reviews as lack of internet, but I felt this was reflected in the price
So all in all top hole !
- john (8/5): - It was warm cosy and clean. Easy access to amenities and no noise. Very nice. Telly kept loosing signal which made it hard to watch anything.
- Carole (10/5): Amazing place; comfy, cosy and superb value for money. - This is a fab apartment. It's got everything you could want, from being spotlessly clean, to really well thought out details to make your stay brilliant. Super comfy and cosy, and the layout means it's compact design is part of the charm. It's in a great location, close to good pubs and restaurants, loads of free parking and quiet. There's nothing not to like. Genuinely didn't find fault with anything.
- Willis (7/5): - The kitchen was very well equipped and the sitting room layout was good. The bedroom is very small, and a poor fit for a 3/4 bed. The mattress was way too soft, and that is my only real gripe. The location is excellent
- Pat (9/5): - Charming apartment! Brilliant location!
Appreciated the coffee, tea etc. provided
Also washing up liquid, hand wash etc.
If we didn't live 7 hours drive away would certainly return! No bath mat!
- Mark (9/5): Clean and comfortable apartment in a beautiful town. - Great location near the town centre but away from the traffic. Tidy and clean with a well equipped kitchen including washing machine and electric oven. Windows can be tricky to open, but a minor quibble.
- shelley (9/5): Enjoyed our stay loved location and great for a few nights away! - Location. Host was very response and accommodating. Nothing.
- Ann (10/5): Lovely place I will definitely come again next year - Lovely place I have been twice, very clean and comfortable Central and peaceful
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Pei (10/5): -
- William (6/5): - Clean comfortable appartment
Free parking Very poor Internet connection
Tiny shower cubicle
- Clifford (7/5): Great base to explore Berwick. - Location was great. Everything very clean and tidy. Nice little apartment. Washing machine on its last legs? Deafeningly loud. TV didn’t work properly. Bed small for two.
- monicavide (7/5): - Apartamento práctico y funcional, bien reformado y equipado. Buena ubicación en zona céntrica pero tranquila. Muy escaso en cuanto a ropa de casa, no ofrece toallas de baño, apenas una de manos, ni sábanas extra para el sofá cama.
- Margaret (7/5): Overall a pleasant stay in a fabulous town well worth visiting. - Modern finish and fittings, clean with nice decor, good ranges and quality of kitchenware. Super-central location walkable to all attractions. Free long term carpark nearby. Very small, though comfortable, double bed for two people. Internet and TV signals were terrible and kept fading out making it impossible to stay on wi fi and watch free to air TV. Salt shaker empty. No shampoo. Tricky to find apartment and correct lock box.
- Julian (9/5): Great place to stay for a visit to Berwick and to get up to Edinburgh for the Fringe - Very clean. Great location. Highly recommend the Turkish restaurant around the corner ( Mavi). Lovely host who was very helpful and accommodating.
- Martin (8/5): Had a fantastic time. - Location was perfect for everything. Pubs, Restaurants etc. Was down for a Scooter Club Weekend Run, and everyone enjoyed, we all agreed to visit again in the future
- Garry (7/5): All pretty good apart from WiFi - Bijou by name and Bijou by nature but spic and span and in a great location, in very close proximity to two 24-hour free carparks (only 30 seconds walk to Foul Ford carpark -via back passageway next to the front door- or two minutes’ walk to Quayside carpark under the stone archway at the bottom of the road. Very well-equipped kitchen. Acceptable size bathroom with a smallish shower unit. Compact and odd shaped double bedroom so at bedtime someone is probably climbing over the top of the bed to get to their side. Not a great deal of space in the living room but would still benefit from a slightly larger and more comfortable settee to watch the available Freeview from. The Wi-Fi is unfortunately appalling so a smartphone is a complete necessity to do anything whatsoever online. It looks like a newish router at the kitchen window so maybe others in this apartment block have access and are taking the Bandwidth? Nevertheless the apartment did serve the purpose of an enjoyable and economical short stay in Berwick. WiFi
- P G B (9/5): Lovely apartment, convenient, quiet, central, very well cared-for, good value, thank you, Donna. - Location central but very quiet, and parking nearby, very convenient. Washing machine welcome, also tea, coffee, etc and switches labelled, clear instructions. Very clean and well-maintained, thank you. This is indeed “bijou”, but everything is there.
The apartment is ground floor. Much appreciated. 1. Wifi did not work, it would not connect to the internet: a phone call to Donna revealed that the router could not always connect to the mobile signal, as that is poor in Berwick. This property does not advertise wifi, nevertheless, if a router is there, and a code is provided in the information folder in the apartment, the implication is that wifi is available. Maybe there should be a written proviso? Why is Donna paying for it, if it doesn’t work? Moreover, the advice to “go out to where there is free wifi”, presumably a pub or such, doesn’t go with our elderly lifestyle.
2. I should have liked to empty the bin, and recycle too…. No information on this 21st century stuff!
3. The absence of a “proper” chair or two (folding ones could be under the bed) meant that eating on the sofa was a problem…. It is not what elderly people do! The folding tv table did not line up with the sofa. My old man was greatly inconvenienced… we haven’t moved with the times, just got creakier. I think if we’d been staying longer, it wouldn’t have done at all. We don’t eat out, owing to dietary issues.
4. We would have appreciated microwave containers, the sort with lids… this would mean less danger of mess.
5. Towels: why not provide them? (Very 20th century stuff!) If they aren’t to be used for the beach, you can stipulate that. Everywhere else we have stayed provides them.
- Sally (6/5): -
- Terry (10/5): Relaxing stay, very chilled, nice and peaceful - Cute and cosy, fantastic location, loads to do in the town.
Very comfortable, and clean. everything you need for a lovely weekend away. N/A All good
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Lynn (10/5): Had everything I needed. Great for walking the northern section of the Northumbrian coast path. - Location was perfect for me. Very near the coast path & short walk to the bus stop.
- Nigel (9/5): Very nice location very helpful staff - Good location
Very clean
Good facilities
- Jane (8/5): Very good - Great location. The apartment was compact and very clean. The shower was fab. There was also a well equipped kitchen. Great restaurants nearby. Would definitely recommend Limoncello very near the apartment . Food was amazing and great value for money. We also visited The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, which was a short drive away and well worth a visit. There was a small double bed that didn't fit the room, so our pillows would fall off the bed during the night as there was no headboard. The mattress was also very soft. The room did get very warm, and we were unable to open the windows as they were all very high. The host did provide a fan, which helped as the weather was very hot. We understand that the dimensions of the apartment would not allow a larger bed, but applying a small headboard would be an easy fix to make it more comfortable. Overall, though, the apartment was exceptionally clean and we loved the location.
- Joy (8/5): Tidy small unit. - The host was really helpful and very easy to communicate with. I received the door code easily and the unit was clean on arrival. It is an eccentric little unit but I enjoyed my one week stay. Everything was in order. The location was excellent for getting around town. About 17 minutes walk to the station and slightly less to the bus stop at Golden Square. There was a good small new Polish supermarket in the same street on the same side of the road with as yet no signage outside. The unit was very quiet at night which was great. I would stay again. The Wifi provided was in a word 'useless'. I could not get phone reception inside either. Talking to other holiday makers in the area this seems to be generalised infrastsructure problem rather than a failure in this particular flat.
- Lees (9/5): Superb - Location, quietness, value, comfort. Couldn't get a reliable wi-fi signal. Unclear how to operate shower - notes said not to alter boiler settings, but I had to turn it to hot water.
- Carol (8/5): Very good - Being in a good location in Berwick TV connection constantly interrupted
- David (9/5): Superb - Compact and stylish apartment perfect for our 2 night stay N/A
- Darren (8/5): Very good - Great location, quiet, very modern and clean.
- N (8/5): Enjoyable stay at great location property - Clean property, good facilities, good location, enjoyable stay. Was known towels not included but would have been nice if possible, particularly as didnt travel by car.
- Anna (8/5): Very good -
- Liddell (7/5): Short stay - Really loved the look of the place but
unfortunately we found the bed far too small. The couch was also very uncomfortable. The bathroom was great and the shower was lovely. Great kitchen area very well stocked with everything that you could need.
It was also good value for the money paid The bed and the couch
- Eva (7/5): OK for one or two nights - The location was superb! Very close to cafés, sights and the harbour area. It was also clean and nicely furnished. I didn't like the communication with the owner. It was very impersonal. There was only one small towel (yes, the owner pointed out after the booking that no towels were provided, so I was almost glad that I at least had the one small towel), the TV didn't have a proper connection, the windows couldn't be opened (so the rooms couldn't be aired) and the boiler showed a signal that there was low water pressure, so I didn't turn on the heating and hot water. The owner had provided instructions on how to fix low water pressure, but to be honest, I don't want to deal with making (foreign) heating systems work when I'm on vacation.
- Wendy (9/5): Beautiful Berwick upon Tweed - Perfect location for coastal walks and a must visit sites, quiet and clean area with free parking close by. The apartment was very cosy, clean and comfortable and easy to find. No TV signal, WiFi was poor but doesn't take away from the charm of the area.
- Sandy (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely everything , 😊 To be fair, the only thing was lack of Internet, other than that it's a perfect apartment and location
- Matthew (7/5): Great location and place. - Good location in old town. No towels?
- Cheryl (9/5): Superb -
- 100%northumbrian (8/5): Comfy as anything - The appartment was gorgeous, clean, nice decor and the bed and pillows were so very comfy probably one of the best beds I've ever slept in! The location was perfect, very quiet and peaceful in the middle of Berwick
The down side was, I had no signal on my phone or Internet connection.
The TV had no signal and was losing connection every few second which made it impossible to watch.
Didn't like the air fresheners smell so put them in the cupboard
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zaynab (10/5): Compact- chic - bijoux - All facilities available
Compact - chic- bijoux😍😍😍 None
- Martin (5/5): Passable -
- Susan (8/5): A convenient cosy apartment in the middle of town with modern clean facilities - Self catering good equipment,-but beware, if no car, there are no grocery stores within walking distance
situated very well in town so a few reasonable eating places nearby
very cosy small apartment for one, good heating and facilities but strangely no large towels key retrieval box -which has no light above for after dark arrivals -so impossible to use( a neighbour fortunately helped me ) Generally a difficult way to obtain the key and also leave
No bath towel (much too heavy to bring with out car)
- Teresa (6/5): Pleasant - Location Bedroom and bed too small. Uht milk was well past sell by date
- Lorna (8/5): A smart, well appointed cosy flat located in the centre of town, short distance from river. - Nicely styled and well appointed modern kitchen with everything you need. Very convenient in the centre of town near the quay and river. Great shower and bathroom. The sofa was not very comfortable to stretch out on and the TV was positioned at an angle.
The living area was a bit smaller than anticipated.
- Paul (10/5): Perfect - The place was lovely and cosy, had everything you possibly need and was a stones throw to the lovely town centre. Nothing
- Zaynab (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zaynab (10/5): It is definitely Bijoux ❤️❤️❤️ - Central location
Had all the necessities and more
Comfy bed- great sleep 😴 Slight issue with wifi but overall fantastic
- Chris (8/5): Very good - Centrally located, easy to get to. Adjacent to free car parks. Bathroom good, great shower. It was ideal for walking round old Berwick, along the walls and exploring the old cobbled streets, lots of independent shops in Bridge Street. Bed was uncomfortable, on the small side for 2 adults. No table or chairs to use when eating, difficult to eat while sitting on the low sofa with a folding table. Could have had a few more bits and bobs in the kitchen, like scissors, pizza cutter, kitchen roll. We realise it is a small apartment, but there were spare drawers in the kitchen with nothing in.
- Shaun (9/5): Very easy to acess, super clean place & perfect location ! - Very Clean and well organised. Super comfy bed ! Literally the only thing I could say would be that it was a little small but for the very good price that’s hardly a complaint.
- Leanne (7/5): Good - Great location, easy instructions to access and very clean. The bed was really uncomfortable.
- Morag (9/5): Very comfortable and clean apartment with everything you would need. Great location and parking was better than I though - Fully equipped apartment with all the useful things you would need when you arrive, like tea, coffee, washing up liquid etc It was difficult to get a signal and had to go outside to call and text
- Alan (9/5): Very warm and friendly - Very clean and welcoming No internet
- Oliver (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely bolt hole in the centre of Berwick, with plenty of good bars and restaurants within a couple of minutes walking distance. Definitely recommend.
- Martyn (6/5): Clean, convenient, friendly host - Very clean, ideally situated, nice quiet location, close to all amenities, host was very helpful and easy to get hold of. The bed was a small double which meant One of us slept on the sofa.
No phone reception in the apartment from our 2 service providers, It would have been good to have known this as I have a daughter in hospital who needed to be in contact with me case of emergency. Pleased to read wifi is coming soon .
- Rachel (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Lovely and clean just next to shops and restaurants would recommend nice and quiet area Few teething problems at first but were soon resolved by the host
- Hazel (10/5): Bijou apartment - a perfect get-away for two! - A perfect location - near to the town walls which are great to walk & opposite the lovely Bridge Street with it's independent shops, restaurants & local microbrewery. I did say (to the owner) that a notice outside the Corn Exchange would be helpful for non-locals & bigger numbers on the outside door of the apartment would be very helpful too (otherwise you are relying on locals directing you)! Apart from those two little things everything else was perfect for two people - it was very well equipped & had everything we wanted - we will be back!! Nothing at all!
- Lloyd (10/5): Cosy little flat - Nice little apartment, comfy bed. No Internet and no phone signal.
- Karen (8/5): Very happy - but missed having WiFi or a mobile signal. - Clean and well appointed, great shower! Key lock box was a challenge but I finally mastered it.
- Paul (9/5): Superb - The location was perfect; close to everything but quiet and with easy local parking.
The apartment itself was excellent. It's small, but that's fine and as expected, and it's very well equipped and laid out.
The bed was one of, if not THE, most comfortable l've ever slept in.
Two free car parks very close.
Donna was very helpful, and overall, it was a simple, straightforward, and excellent experience. I definitely recommend it. Not a criticism, just an observation that might help someone....
I'm a big guy, (20 stone), and while l was fine, the shower might be tight for someone else.
- John (9/5): Bijou- Berwick on Tweed 21st to 23rd May 2024 - For one person, it was ideal, very cosy.
It had everything I needed.
Ideally situated for the Riverside, the Riverside walks, and the town that has plenty of food and drink places.
For real craft beers, try Micropub, the Curfew.
Great coffee at Northern Edge coffee. Didn't really know anything about parking until I got there and worked it out.
Essentially, there is a car park (Foul Ford) about a minute away. Really ideally situated, but it has a maximum stay 24 hours, no return for 4 hours.
Great if you're going out and about and taking the car, but if you're planning on leaving it, you'll have to move it elsewhere for 4 hours.
- Diane (9/5): Only reason I wouldn’t return is size of bed - absolutely no other issues. - Clean apartment with all appliances needed. Good communications from owner with details should you need to phone them etc. great location. The bed is extremely small think maybe a three quarter. Struggled as partner is tall, big guy. Ended up one of us on settee. Could have done with a small coffee type table - maybe if fold up could be stored at side for space.
- Alan (8/5): Good for a Short Stay - Well decorated, neat and well presented apartment. Kitchen area well stocked. Quiet location Compact apartment with very small bedroom. No dining table or chairs. No internet.
- Samantha (9/5): Superb - Nicely appointed apartment, tidy and comfortable for a solo/couple stay, close to the water, in a quiet part of town. Close to nice eateries. Had a small issue with the boiler which was attended to quickly and effectively, so good service on the part of the hosts.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Had everything you need, plenty big enough for two people
- Brittany (7/5): Good - The location. I understand that some places don’t have wifi, however we couldn’t even get phone reception while in the property, so definitely needs wifi. Having no towels wasn’t helpful for a holiday. No soap in bathroom or shower. I could be wrong but I don’t believe I was given the correct lock-box code and had to ring for it.
- Pascal (10/5): Exceptional - Ideally situated in the center of Berwick !
- Joanne (10/5): Great stay. Would recommend & definitely stay again. - The apartment was in a great location. Very comfortable & the owner was incredibly friendly & helpful. Super comfy bed! One tiny detail was that currently there isn’t any Wi-Fi but I think this is something that the owner is looking in to.
- Douglas (9/5): Superb - Very nice. Spotlessly clean, everything we needed was there, bonus of washing machine if staying longer.
The location was great for our stay, quiet area.
Only using the apartment to sleep in, out all day, so the size didn't really matter to us.
Able to park outside overnight. The size of the bed, a very small double, but very comfortable.
Hubby over 6' (lol)
