Guest Reviews
- Paul (8/5): - It was a very pretty village and we had some lovely countryside walks.
- Martin (9/5): - A wonderful cottage over 4 floors in a lovely area. A true delight. So peaceful as well. Would definitely recommend. Everything was great. But if you're 6 foot tall, mind your head under the beams in the kitchen!!
- Tonia (7/5): Lovely but just needs to sort the kitchen cooking facilities - Nice location in the village.
Lovely bathroom. Cosy living room. Cooking facilities were inadequate. The tiny cooker was very slow.
- Shane (9/5): - Cosy and quaint cottage in ideal Cotswolds location. Clean and comfortable stay. Great value. Struggled to figure out how to use the toilet at first? Perhaps could have been better signposted.
- PHILIPPE (9/5): - La localisation Attention .
- Jodie (5/5): Beautiful house and village, very disappointing bathroom and cooking facilities - Lovely location with a stream at the end of the garden and a beautiful kitchen. The house itself is very quaint and seems to have a lot of history, and the bedrooms are also very sweet. The village is pretty to walk around with a great pub not too far, and crucially not crowded with tourists like many of the other villages we visited. Unfortunately the bathroom left a lot to be desired. As others have mentioned, the toilet did not flush and the owner was unwilling to acknowledge this, so we ended up having to keep a pot of water from the kitchen to manually flush it. When the shower was in use there was also a leak in the below ceiling. There is no bath mat or sanitary bin so it quickly became soaking wet and unpleasant. The kitchen lacks a real oven - you can't change the temp on the aga (unless you want a £200 fine), and the mini grill/oven took about 3x as long to cook food. It's unfortunate because it would have been a lovely stay otherwise, but these things meant we didn't feel very comfortable during our stay and did not feel that a lot of care had been put into the place.
- Finn (8/5): Great cute cottage in charming Blockley - Quaint, authentic little cottage. Fantastic hosts that provided great recommendations and instructions.
A great central hub to explore the Cotswolds No milk provided for tea or coffee
- Alexandra (10/5): Lovely short stay in the town of Blockley. The people were friendly - Lovely quaint cottage in a picturesque village. Nothing
- Cat (10/5): We enjoyed our short stay and would definitely recommend . Such a lovely place to unwind! - Lovely place to experience. Not many properties have a stream in the back garden. My son loved it! He asked me to give five stars for the cottage!
- Paul (8/5): - Quirky cottage we liked.
- Wayne (9/5): Great cottage, clean and cosy. - Lovely cottage well placed to explore the Cotswolds. Highly recommended. We thought there was a real fire, but there was no chimney. Ended up not being able to burn the logs we bought! Would be nicer with a log burner in the lounge.
- Lynch (8/5): - Lovely little cottage with a townhouse layout.
- Karl (10/5): -
- Catrin (8/5): - Lovely quirky cottage in a fabulous location.
- Enrique (10/5): - Maravillosa casa, te transporta a tiempos pasados. Ideal para relajarse. Recomendable para varios días
- Pamela (9/5): Lovely gem - A lovely cottage with so much character and many original features. It's cozy and has got everything you might need for a short stay. The beds are very comfortable! Good communication with the host. We would definitely stay again when visiting the area. The local pub down the road served very good food and they were also really accommodating - would recommend for dinner if you don't fancy cooking. The stairs are very steep but it wasn't a problem for us. The toilet took a while to fill up in order to be able to flush - we blamed it on the age of the building and the fact that the bathroom is on the second floor.
- Kevin (8/5): Quaint cottage - Plenty of space, beautiful view and stream behind the property. Very comfy beds! Steep stairs are very steep but obviously understand can’t do anything about them,
Front door of the house doesn’t lock inside the porch.
Toilet is difficult to flush and water from the sink is splashed everywhere when you use the sink.

- Viner (10/5): -
- Sam (10/5): -
- Ilaria (10/5): Come in una favola - Una casa davvero stupenda! Peccato essere rimaste solo una notte, spero di tornare perché merita davvero e c’è tutto l’occorrente per soggiorni più lunghi. Pulizia perfetta e check-in in autonomia comodissimo. Forse è da ricontrollare lo scarico del bagno che spesso non riusciva a ricaricarsi
- Nicola (8/5): -
- Michael (10/5): Great Cotswalds getaway - Sensational. Hope to return one day. The beds were incredible. Like sleeping on a cloud.
- Tamra (9/5): Brilliant, would use again. - The steep stairs were the only thing I didn't like but only because I'm accident prone. It was a sweet property and they added to the charm.
- Nigel (7/5): Relaxing, comfortable, warm and cosy with everything clean and tidy. - The easy contact between the owner, the cleanliness of the property bed linen and towels all excellent. The kitchen was well equipped, having the stable door in the kitchen leading to the outside to the garden area was very relaxing. Lovely views out the back which can be enjoyed from the garden. The garden was untidy with weeds and it needed a good clean and tidy up along with the outside furniture which was also in need of a clean, it was a shame as the views and the garden area are a really nice bonus to the property.
The stairs are very quaint and add character to the property but it needs to be emphasised that they are not suitable for anyone with even the slightest problem with mobility or children, as particularly the ones down to the kitchen are very steep and narrow. They were manageable for us but we still felt nervous using them.
- Mara (8/5): -
- Gioia (8/5): - Cottage disposto in 3 piani caratterizzato da un’atmosfera accogliente! Il bagno nuovo e molto spazioso Le scale sono molto ripide e strette, bisogna segnalare questa caratteristica della casa.
- Leandro (5/5): It was great location, however the property needs some major maintenance - Great location Poor maintenance, oven issue, blocked kitchen pipes, and cleaning
- Ritchie (7/5): - Obviously the stairs would be very awkward for anyone with some mobility issues. Was not expecting that.
- Zoe Tolfree (8/5): - A very cute cottage set on 4 floors, with a garden ... in a pretty location.!
Blockley is a Gem....
- Melanie (10/5): Wonderfully quaint cottage in beautiful Cotswold's village. Comfy beds & lovely host. - Wonderfully quaint cottage in the beautiful village of Blockley in the Cotswold's (Father Brown's 'Kembelford' in TV series, the reason we wanted to stay). So quiet at night, even with all windows open. Room for 2adults and 2kids. Host was super attentive via messaging. No issues with access to keys upon arrival. Parking on street. Loved our stay, wish it had of been longer! Tight spiral stairs could be an issue for small children or those with mobility issues.
- Jacek (10/5): -
- Pauline (9/5): Just two nights and loved cottage. Nice and warm. Comfortable. Lovely views from back garden. Parking easy. - Quaint, cosy, interesting. Nothing
- Hendrina (9/5): A characterful and cosy cottage - Holland cottage was characterful, cosy, quirky and comfortable. We loved the setting in a small typical Cotswold village and the fact that we could sit outside overlooking a farm paddock (with sheep & pheasant foraging) and a brook. A l9cal pub just down the road was also an asset. The spiral stairs ( while part of the character of the cottage) were a challenge with luggage.
Parking on the street, while plentiful during the week, was a challenge during the weekend.
- Judy (9/5): Fabulous, welcoming property, with charm and amazing location - Loved location , interior style and type of property. Really homely and cosy Garden area/ bins abit untidy. . Single mattress not brilliant quality but still slept ok
- Dominic (3/5): Cute cottage, but a very poor experience - It is undoubtedly a cute cottage. Parking was ok even on the busy street, and for a week in the Cotswolds it's a perfect base. But I'd recommend that you stay anywhere else but here. Let's start with first impressions. We were there for a week and it would have been good if, like most places, there was a feeling of being welcomed. A little note perhaps, or a packet of biscuits. A bottle of water, or even wine. There was a personal welcome actually - a 'shouty' note in the kitchen threatening us with a £350 fine if we messed with the AGA. Lovely. Why not drop us a (more polite) message before we got there? This, however, pales into insignificance compared to the worst part of the stay.
The beds are disgraceful. How can you be in the business of providing accommodation when you obviously do not care whether your guests get a decent night's sleep? The double bed feels like it is about to collapse. It's unstable and rocks about like an ocean liner in a storm. Even the slightest movement brings about unbearably loud creaking and metal on metal noises. After one night of being unable to sleep, our son offered to swap so we took the twin beds. Just as bad! In fact so bad, I went out the next day and bought Allen keys to try and tighten the frames up. It worked only partially - closer examination revealed that each and every bolt in the twin beds were loose. The main screws keeping the headboard attached to the bed frame of the bed nearest the window are missing the bolts to tighten it up. I didn't have an adjustable spanner on me (silly me), so couldn't tighten the support legs as they were loose too. The other bed was the same, except for this one, one of the support legs is broken completely and is hanging on by a thread. I didn't bother with the double bed beyond noticing that a whole row of slats are missing. My son, bless him, said he would just grin and bear it.
It might seem churlish to list other matters but as I can see from other feedback that almost all been mentioned before, many on multiple occasions - perhaps the owners might get the message that they need to do something about them?
- loulee2005 (4/5): Really very disappointed - Loved the location here. If you are wanting to come to the Cotswolds and explore the area then this is an excellent base. The cottage itself is in a great, quaint location with a lovely field backing onto it. Character wise, this ticks all the boxes, including the steep stairs, which is to be expected with the age and style of the property. Sadly I seem to be repeating what others have reported. There was only one bin in the whole property, which was located in the kitchen. Not ideal for women who really need one in the bathroom. No Tea towel though the owner did offer to drop one in after we spoke. The fridge was leaking leaving water all over the floor. The shower was held up with a hairband as the shower fixture had broken and again as someone had previously reported, there was no bath matt. Beds were not very comfy and the kitchen sink was constantly filling up with water from whatever was going on in the next property. Mostly all blinds were broken in the property and held up with metal make do blind holders making them look shabby. The handwash was watered down. We didn't appreciate the note which was left about using the AGA which greeted us on arrival, explaining we would be charged £350 if the thermostat was amended. I can understand this but would nice to know before reaching the property. We didn't cook and wouldn't want to after seeing the note. The biggest disappointment was that the garden was seriously neglected. The gardens either side we immaculate and this garden was overgrown, bins left in the middle of the patio and fag buts in a dish of floating water on the wall. Not really our idea of a beautiful Cotswold garden. The owner of this property needs to give this a nice repaint, re-think how the AGA note is communicated and give the garden some love. It seems this property is making money with none really put back into it.

- Mark (9/5): A charming and cosy cottage in a stunning village location – we’d happily recommend it. - Holland Cottage is full of character and charm, with a real homely feel. The village setting in Blockley is beautiful – peaceful, picturesque, and a perfect base for exploring the Cotswolds. The cooking facilities could be improved, as they felt a little limited compared to the rest of the cottage. Parking can also be a little tricky. These were minor points in what was otherwise a really enjoyable stay.
- Kate (7/5): Cute Cotswolds cottage, great location and unique layout of cottage. - A great location in the Cotswolds, easy walk into town to the pub for dinner, unique experience staying in a cottage split over 4 levels. Very squeaky beds, didn’t feel far off from falling apart when you rolled over. Toilet flushing was an issue, after 1-2 flushes the toilet would not flush for the rest of our stay.
- Paul (7/5): -
- John (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Brad (10/5): -
- John (9/5): Holland Cottage - Very charming cottage in an adorable village. Fun to roam the streets. Nice local pub and restaurant.....great local hikes in all directions. Internet is a bit slow....
- Chris (10/5): Perfect place for a countryside loving family - Quirky with lots of character Nothing. It was perfect for us
- Jo (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean and tidy
- Becky (8/5): Scenic, cosy and clean. Good for value. - The property was very clean and tidy. Didn’t use the kitchen but looked lovely. Didn’t realise it was 4. Floors . Parking wasn’t a problem. Was able to park right outside just at top of path. The only thing I can say is the one single bed was a bit wobbly and very squeaky.
- Denise (6/5): An adventure - Very quaint. This cottage has 4 levels with very steep stairs. We are in our seventies and they were a challenge. The bathroom was on the 3rd level that had twin beds. Very noisy beds. I would probably move the queen to the 3rd floor and put the twins on the 4th. Usually it’s the adults that need the bathroom during the night. There was a cafe down the road a ways but naught much else. Shop before you get there. Difficulty parking.
- Andrew (5/5): Good location but scary stairs - nice little back garden. Good location. Not suitable for elderly. Stairs very steep and narrow. Very risky for those with limited movement etc
Easiest and safest way to get to kitchen was by going outside and through back door..
- Manoj (9/5): Superb location quaint cotswolds experience - Location, facilities quaint superb kitchen Steepish stairs, soft beds
- Mireille (10/5): Beautiful cottage in idyllic location - I loved the cottage, idyllic and superb location. Yes the stairs are steep but that is expected in a property of this age. Lovely to have the stream at the bottom of the garden. 100% recommend! Nothing
- Dawn (7/5): Good - Amazing Cotswolds cottage. Lovely kitchen. Incredible village and stunning location. Found the stairs incredibly difficult to use as I am partially disabled and I did not read anywhere that it would not be suitable. This place would not really be suitable for young families either.
Could hear every footstep and bed movement. But as I am a light sleeper that is my issue.
- Giantonio (7/5): Good - One Place for everyone of the group No cattle and coffe or tea ...
- Catharine (10/5): Exceptional - Quaint cottage - we had a lovely stay. Be aware that there are steep spiral staircases, though there are excellent hand rails so my 91 year old mother managed fine !
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Old style cottage with loads of beams
- Mikkielias (8/5): A charming and well-located home with lots of character! - The house is very charming and located in the village of Blockley, which is beautiful and very peaceful. It's a typical old house, lovingly restored and really cute. The bathroom is newly renovated. The check-in process was very convenient—being able to arrive and collect the key without stress was a huge plus.
Everything was very clean and very relaxing stay. The 10 a.m. check-out felt excessive. We’ve already come to terms with the fact that the old 12 p.m. check-out is now usually 11 a.m., but 10 a.m. doesn’t allow for a restful morning.
As it’s an old house, the staircase is understandably steep.
There were a few small things missing—no bath mat, which left the floor wet, and I couldn’t find an iron to press a shirt. The bed bases were quite old and noisy, and they sagged a bit, making them uncomfortable.
The garden has a lot of potential—it’s beautiful, with views over a hillside and the sound of a nearby stream—but it was sadly neglected. There were bins and bags of leaves lying around, and many weeds, which is unusual for homes in the Cotswolds where gardens are typically immaculate.
There was no bin in the bathroom or full-length mirror, which could easily be added—perhaps to the right of the window. The décor is nice, but there are too many decorative items scattered around, which makes the space feel a bit visually overwhelming.
- Christine (7/5): Although the place was quaint ,clean and a good price, I would not recommend this accommodation to my friends or family - Value for money The King bed had 2 rods missing from the frame which made sitting on the bed impossible not to mention lack of comfort when sleeping and the mattress was either worn out or cheap. The stairs were super steep and treads narrow with only a rope to hang on to and the top level was dangerous coming down. The kitchen had an Aga which we couldnt use and the small portable oven didnt work. The kitchen table took up too much room which made moving around to cook etc very awkward . They had a drainage issue which resulted in water from next door coming up the drain in the kitchen sink. Very unhygienic.
- Carlo (8/5): Very good -
- Judy (8/5): A beautiful, cozy home in the heart of the Cotswolds—peaceful, well-equipped, and the perfect countryside escape. - The house was beautifully quirky, spread across four levels. It was cozy, clean, and perfectly located.
- Emma (9/5): Wonderful stay at the charming Holland cottage - Holland Cottage is a beautiful place with charming character. We loved the little kitchen downstairs with the aga which warmed the room. There’s a stream at the end of the garden so with the door open go can hear the relaxing sound of running water. Amazing location a short walk from a pub and our favourite Brockley village cafe with the best breakfast we’ve had in ages. Free parking, very good value for a stay during Cheltenham festival! The property is not ideal for very tall people, banging our heads on the beams a few times climbing the stairs but this was part of the fun for us and we would absolutely love to stay again.
- C (9/5): Beautiful countryside cottage - Holland Cottage is located in a beautiful little village - close to so many gorgeous walks and other villages to wander around. We were so happy with our stay - the cottage was very clean and super cute. The beds could have been comfier - We were fine as we only stayed a night but I would say that if I booked for longer I would be unhappy with the comfort of beds.
- Stephen (9/5): A comfortable short stay - The stairs were an issue for me as I have bad knees but I still enjoyed my stay .
- James (10/5): Perfect - Very cosy and cute. Modern shower and bathroom and very comfortable beds. Nothing, it was perfect!
- Freya (10/5): Cotswold countryside and superb comfort in a quaint and cozy cottage - This is the most gorgeous, cottage. It’s tiny and homely and comfortable, fitted with everything we could have needed for a cozy, comfortable stay. Hated the small, packed streets in Blockley. Stressful driving on them - but so glad we got out and walked. This is a village made for walking! Plenty of footpaths, and it’s beautiful! Follow the public footpath down the side of the cottage for a beautiful walk past the sheep, follow the stream and it leads to the shop/cafe.
- Jimsuk (10/5): My Girlfriend when asked what she wanted for her Birthday said a weekend away in The Cotswolds & she - I can sum our stay at Holland Cottage as follows,
My Girlfriend when asked what she wanted for her Birthday said a weekend away in The Cotswolds & she was blown away with the location & Holland Cottage & so was I.
Location; Beautiful sleepy Village like something from a postcard, upmarket cafe a 10 minute walk away next to the church that did a lovely breakfast.
Cottage; A lovely property spread over 4 floors with winding little stairs, we are a bit O.C.D but no problems here as everything was very clean. Lovely view from the bedroom with sheep in the field & the sound of the stream at the bottom of the garden lovely to listen to on a Sunday morning.
We will be back as worth a 3 hour drive as so much to explore in the area.
Thanks to David the host as communication was spot on prior to our visit. Honestly we absolutely loved it, nothing we didn't like.
- Alice (10/5): A wonderful stay - We absolutely loved our stay at the Holland Cottage. The cottage was even more lovely in reality than on the pictures. The access to the house was easy and the host was very available via messages. The house had a good location and the surroundings are beautiful. We highly recommend! Nothing
- C (10/5): A truly gorgeous home and a lovely stay. - It is absolutely beautiful. Four storeys and tiny and so well appointed and comfortable. Great location and a delightful surprise. Nothing. We loved it.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb - Charming, character filled cottage that felt like we were wrapped up in a warm blanket. I was nervous about the cold as it was snowing before we arrived but the hosts had put on the heating and aga, which was fabulous. Highly recommended. Very steep internal stairs
- Suchita (9/5): Great city escape! - Great getaway, fantastic value. The hosts were very prompt to respond. A quaint cottage- we woke up to a lovely view of the neighbouring farm sheep grazing. Good location with the High St area being less than 15 mins drive away and surrounded by a handful of local pubs (short walk away). Would recommend the local Blockley Cafe for a brunch while you’re here!
- Carenza (10/5): Had a lovely weekend here exploring a few of the villages and towns had food at the local pub which was a short distance - Lovely little cottage very warm and cozy exactly what we were going for ! Nothing all was fab great location
- Alan (9/5): Superb -
- Mandy (9/5): Would visit again! Cosy, quiet and good value. - Fantastic location, Very cosy. Lovely little garden with a stream. Nice and quiet. The aga was a lovely touch but with no experience on how to use we werent sure if we could turn up the heat, it may of been simply that that is not pass, a note to say that in the handbook would be useful. It wasnt hot enough to cook on. We used the additional electric hotplates provided instead to cook on. Worked well but awkwardly placed.
- Jolanta (10/5): Exceptional - Location, a beautiful unique Aga hob
- Paul (10/5): quaint and relaxing!! - Cottage is set in a extremely quaintly English village. Quiet and picturesque. Lovely garden sitting area overlooking a fantastically relaxing natural water future. The cottage is simply lovely. There is nothing to dislike. Description is very well written and describes the proper excellently. You get what you get, it’s brilliant.
