Guest Reviews
- Manuele (10/5): Ryokan tradizione, cena e colazione squisita.

- Maureen (10/5): An experience not to be missed - We felt welcomed as friends from the minute we walked through the door of this family run ryokan. The Japanese style room was comfortable and had everything we needed for the night.
Dinner was amazing. Dietary requirements were checked on arrival and the chef came out with every course to explain where the ingredients came from (all were local), and instruct on how to eat if necessary. We enjoyed a 7 course tasting menu and every course was exceptional, particularly the sashimi.
Breakfast was a choice of Japanese or Western. We chose Japanese and weren’t disappointed. This is an experience not to be missed.
- Donna (8/5): MIYAJIMA ISLAND IS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO VISIT & THE HOSPITALITY AT YAMAICHI BEKKAN WAS OUTSTANDING - THE HOTEL WAS VERY CONVENIENTLY LOCATED RIGHT OPPOSITE THE FERRY TERMINAL. BREAKFAST & DINNER WERE INCLUDED AND THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL - SOME OF THE BEST JAPANESE FOOD WE ATE ON OUR TRIP. THE HOTEL IS A RYOKEN WITH TRADITIONAL JAPANESE ROOMS HOWEVER WE ENDED UP STAYING IN A SMALL TWIN ROOM SO WE DIDN'T GET TO EXPERIENCE THE BEST ACCOMMODATION ON OFFER WHICH WAS A SHAME
Cena e colazione davvero ottime.
Un posto speciale Tutto perfetto

- Susan (10/5): Hosts were 20000% excellent and kind. Would stay here again for sure. - Simple but modest and easy Had some trouble with thermostat but otherwise good
- ChanLee (10/5): - The food is amazing and the room is very big. The owner family was very friendly and kind which made the stay very enjoyable. The location is also perfect as it's right across the ferry terminal and there's a Lawson next door.
ADORATO TUTTO Niente, tutto perfetto

- Camila (4/5): Disappointing stay – not suitable for enjoying Miyajima at night. - The food was good and well presented. We chose this hotel to enjoy the torii gate at sunset and at night, but that was not possible. Dinner (17:30–18:30) is extremely early and forced us to rush, making us miss the sunset. Then, at 22:00 the hotel closes, so you cannot go out or enjoy the island at night, even though the torii remains illuminated and the last ferry departs at 22:30.
The service feels rushed: during dinner they try to clear plates before you finish, and breakfast is already served in advance, so it arrives cold. Additionally, most of the island’s attractions and activity areas are concentrated in one part of Miyajima, while the hotel is located near the ferry terminal on the opposite side. This makes it inconvenient to return to the hotel for meals in the middle of the day, especially when there are plenty of food options available while you are out exploring.
There are no outdoor areas or terraces to relax at night, and the hotel has no elevator (three floors of stairs).
It is marketed as a traditional Japanese experience, but in reality it is very basic, with no onsen and outdated facilities that need renovation. For the price, it is not worth it. We also found much cheaper hotels nearby.
- Marco (10/5): Ste pi to so - Tutto, posizione fantastica
Cibo con passione
Esperienza ryokan davvero autentica

- Abbate (10/5): Simply awesome! - A beautiful experience: the people who run the ryokan were truly exceptional, very kind and accommodating. Special mention goes to the dinner and breakfast, which were really outstanding. A magical place where I will come back. Everything was perfect.

- Karolína (10/5): - Všechno bylo fantastické, velice milí lidi, famózní jídlo, krásný výhled, perfektní!
- Randy (10/5): Wonderful experience. -
- Roger (10/5): Excellent stay on Miyajima - Very friendly welcome from 'Mum' with advice on what to visit around Miyajima.
Delicious traditional Japanese dinner of many courses, the origin of each described in detail by chef 'Son'.
Choice of Japanese or continental breakfast.
Large room with private bathroom.
Great location opposite ferry port and walking distance to all sights.
Definitely recommend.
Nada. Todo perfecto.
- Alessia (10/5): - Struttura in ottima posizione, personale accogliente e gentile.
Ottima cena e colazione.
- Marius (10/5): -
- Kris (10/5): Miyajima is a special place and so is Yamaichi Bekkan. The owners and staff go out of their way to ensure your stay is c - The staff, the food, the location - all fabulous! Nothing.
- Lachie (10/5): - Amazing food and service. Thank you for having us
- Riccardo (10/5): - Wonderfully furnished, very clean, excellent cuisine, incredibly friendly and helpful staff.
- Lynelle (10/5): Seriously well worth the trip - I am not sure where to start.
Location - directly opposite the ferry terminal and across from lawson’s
Service- absolutely can’t fault anything, nothing was too much trouble. With the help of google translate and some English, we were so looked after. I paid for the half board as I am coeliac and I had seen good reviews.
The food was amazing and endless.
We tasted items I wouldn’t have had an opportunity to try elsewhere.
The rooms were Japanese style and suited all our needs. Great view from our room and well ventilated.
Seriously well worth the trip. Absolutely nothing
- Yveline (10/5): - L’accueil
La gentillesse
L’accompagnement
La cuisine ++++
- rebecca (10/5): -
- Alex (10/5): Una perla in un’isola magica. - Posizione, accoglienza, gentilezza estrema, cibo buonissimo, ambiente tradizionale.
- Fatime (10/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Dinner was exceptional! Highly recommend!
- Lorenzo (10/5): Personale, staff e posizione ottimi! Stanza piuttosto standard.
Arigato gozaimasu !
- Nicole (10/5): -
- Janice (9/5): - Excellent good. Friendly, helpful, amazing people.
- Klaas (10/5): Authentic Japanese Hospitality - Authentic Hospitality: Yamaichi Bekkan is the true definition of omotenashi. Being a small-scale Ryokan, the experience feels incredibly personal and serene, offering a peaceful escape from the many day-trippers on the island.
A Deep Dive into Tradition: From the moment you step into the genkan and trade your shoes for slippers, you leave the modern world behind. I loved the attention to Japanese etiquette, with specific slippers for the bathroom and even a third pair for the room to keep the living space "pure."
The Room: A classic Japanese room with fragrant tatami mats and shoji (sliding doors). Sleeping on a traditional futon (shikibuton) was comfortable and added to the sense of refinement and tranquility in the interior.
The Transformation: A highlight was dressing in the traditional yukata and haori (overcoat). Wearing the zori (slippers) made me feel like a true part of the island’s ancient traditions.
A Culinary Journey: The Kaiseki dinner was spectacular, focusing on local products from the Seto Inland Sea. It was a 7-course masterpiece featuring beef, various sea fish, shrimp, and crab. Each dish looked like a piece of art. Absolutely nothing. The stay exceeded all my expectations.
- Selby (10/5): Excellent traditional Japanese Accomodation - Exceptional traditional Japanese accomodation. The host was lovely and could not do enough to make our stay wonderful nothing
- Laurent (10/5): -
- Marita (10/5): wunderschön - sehr freundliche Gastgeber, hervorragendes Abendessen und Frühstück, Service optimal, grosses Zimmer im japanischen Stil -
- Divinya (10/5): Execellent stay and loved the traditional foods and warm hospitality - The Japanese dinner and breakfast were excellent and very generous portions- they catered to all dietary requirements as well. Wonderful hospitality from the owner and her son- they gave lots of information about how to best explore the island. Location also very convenient as it was opposite the ferry terminal! Japanese bedding and bathroom was comfortable and clean as well :) None.
- Kevin (10/5): -
- Carolyn (9/5): -
- June (10/5): Excellent location just across the ferry terminal, besides Lawson - Excellent location and service. It was a very comfortable stay in a traditional place with modern amenities. Delicious dinner and breakfast from the chef. It will be good if there's yukata that are smaller size suitable for females.
- William (10/5): I intend to stay at Yamaichi Bekkan the next time I'm in Miyajima. I felt well taken care of! - The grandmotherly proprietor, Shiko-san, is one of the kindest people I've ever met. The meals she served me -- a traditional Japanese breakfast, in particular -- were satisfying, beautiful, and delicious. The staff were lovely, the tatami mats in my small, but beautiful room felt wonderful beneath my feet, and the tea supplied -- Kukicha -- was the best I've ever savored: it had the quality of broth, and none of the astringency of most teas. I thank Shiko-san for introducing me to it. I marked a three out of four for comfort only because I'm in my seventh decade, and getting up off the floor at 3:00 am was not easy for me. But I slept unusually well my two nights at the Bekkan, and have no regrets.
« Arigatô gozaimasu » ; « I miss you ».
- Dayna (10/5): Favourite Stay After 16 Days in Japan - Would Return in a Heartbeat - Shinko-san (the owner) is an absolute sweetheart, and her hospitality has left a lasting impact on us. :) We bonded over our love of cats. She made sure to see us off in the morning at 7am.
Dinner was also amazing, huge (8 courses), and had a very home-cooked feel. Staff kindly explained all the dishes to us.
The traditional room with futon beds were easily our most comfortable beds in all of Japan, and we were so cozy during the wintertime. I only wish we got to sleep here a second night.
Unbeatable location near the ferry terminal.
I recommend all my friends going to Miyajima to stay here!
-Dayna and Jesse I did not have a chance to enjoy breakfast due to an early morning departure. :(
Also, no elevator may be an issue for those who can't climb stairs.
- Evelien (9/5): Prachtige authentieke belevenis - Zeer vriendelijke gastvrouw, heerlijk Japans eten, ruime kamer, goede badkamer(s) en dichtbij veerboor Niets
- Emily (10/5): -
- John (10/5): -
- Anthony Pierre (10/5): -
- Deb (10/5): Perfect stay away from city life - Perfect location right next to ferry and walking distance to all sights. Japanese room was beautiful with comfy futons. Inclusive meals were authentic and plentiful. Made to feel extremely welcome and couldnt do enough to make your stay perfect. Highly recommend. Nothing
- Jeffrey (10/5): Loved it! - The owner of the property was an absolute sweetheart!
- Sam (9/5): A very comfortable and comfortable stay in Miyajima - We stayed here for a couple of nights in December. Great location, bang opposite the Ferry Terminal. Shinko-san (the owner) is an amazing host. She is very friendly, welcoming and informative. She showers you with so much love and warmth that you don't feel like leaving. The traditional room (with Tatami Mats and Futon beds) on the second floor was the biggest in our one month trip to Japan. It had a balcony with a good view. The AC was functional. The bathroom + WC though dated and compact, was very clean. Spotlessly clean linen and towels. A multi-course traditional Japanese dinner on both nights with each dish being explained personally, either by Shinko or her help Oishi, was an experience we will never forget. We however opted for a Continental / Western breakfast just for a change. The two days were perfect to cover most of Miyajima island including all the temples, pagoda and going up to Mount Misen for some breathtaking views (this was the highlight of the trip) of the bay and Hiroshima city. Watching the beautiful Torii Gate at low, mid & high tide was another highlight. Overall, a very memorable and comfortable stay in Miyajima and a big thank you to Shinko and the rest of the staff including the two chefs (who made the wonderful dinner on both nights). Just a few minor points to keep in mind. A sign in English with the name of the property / building would have been helpful, as we had to search a bit before locating the place. There is no elevator, so you have to carry your luggage to the second floor. The stay is a little bit expensive though.
Valentina e Daniele 🇮🇹 (Genova, Italia) Tutto perfetto
- Irene (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay very much. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The dinner and breakfast were a fabulous bonus.
- Kerrie (10/5): Wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again! Everything was perfect 🤩 - Traditional style room, close to everything, clean, quiet, atmosphere was amazing. The host was lovely. Included dinner which was the best dinner we’ve had in Japan, 11 out of 10 !! Nothing
- Tyler (10/5): -
- Peter (10/5): A cozy ryokan with fine dining and attentive service. - Perfectly situated right in front of the ferry terminal, this hotel was a fantastic find. We pulled in late but were greeted with a 8-course gourmet dinner and breakfast included in our stay. The owner’s son walked us through each course, sharing stories of how the ingredients were sourced from around the Setonaikai. It turned a great meal into a personal experience. Beyond the food, his local tips were invaluable—from catching the Great Torii at low tide at dawn to navigating the best trails up Mount Misen. If you’re looking for a stay with heart rather than a cookie-cutter hotel, this is it.
- Hoang Khoi (10/5): Cozy and magical - Super friendly staff (especially the lady at the front desk, she guided me to the main points of Miyajima Island and made sure I knew all the info of the stay), truly delicious breakfast and dinner, and spacious room!
- Masayo (10/5): -
- Aida (10/5): - One of the best experiences in Japan has been to stay at Yamaichi Bekkan. The food? Excellent, more than we expected. The onsen? Quiet and comfy. The people? The best. Perfect location, clean, great food and recommendations. 100% recommend.
- Colleen (10/5): The lady who runs the ryokan is simply lovely. She made us feel very welcome. We opted for the dinner and breakfast, bot -

- Anthony (10/5): - Our stay was incredible with Shinkosan! The dinner and breakfast were delicious. Thanks very much for the lovely experience :) Nothing.
- Jack (10/5): - Wonderful owners
- Emma (10/5): We lived our night here. Delicious dinner and breakfast. Lovely staff. - Staff, dinner, breakfast, location, traditional.
- Erika (10/5): Meraviglioso!
- Daniel (10/5): Lovely host, great location, great food - The lady that runs the place is so cute and kind - though her English is limited you can feel the exceptional hospitality. The set meal is great - they cater to every dietary need. The chef will tell you a little background about the ingredients for every course. He likes learning new words or sentences from your native language (We taught him "Verdauungsspaziergang"). Location is great for an evening stroll when the crowds are gone from the island. Just be aware that everything is closed after 17:00 - even the temples. If anything, some people might not like the 80s/90s vibe of the place :D
- Francesco (10/5): -
- Denzil (10/5): The best food of our trip! - Dinner was included in the price, so for two nights we dined on superlative Japanese cuisine. Our hostess was the most wonderful woman, who really wanted to engage with us because we were all of an age. Talking with her was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan.
The location is outstanding, right near the ferry terminal, and easy walking to the famous torii gate. The room was tiny, but this is Japan! It's an old ryokan, and obviously built long before expectations of today's tourists. It was no trouble.
