Guest Reviews
- Sebastian (9/5): Amazing! - The host is an amazing person. He is always there to help you and give you a wonderful time. He is very flexible with the tours and always wants to deliver!
- Emma (10/5): Best homestay Batanta - We had the best stay ay Marwes. We stayed for four nights. Erwin and his brother showed us all the beautiful places and could tell us a lot about the environment and animals. The food was delicious and the bungalows were great. The wifi wasn’t working a lot because the tower was under maintenance, but that was fine. There is a village next door you can walk to where you can buy a cold coke. Perfect stay, we wish Erwin and his family all the best! A hammock would had been nice to chill in, but that would just be an extra bonus.
- Josef (9/5): - Pro všechny, kdo chtějí být co nejblíže přírodě. Ervin a William byli úžasní a výlety s nimi byly fantastické. Jídlo bylo také výborné. Celé toto místo má svoji příjemnou neopakovatelnou atmosferu. Bude se nám po něm stýskat.
- Remy (5/5): - The view is nice, and Erwin is a good guide if you want to organize tours in the area. The place is okay for maybe two nights, but not much longer. It is a bit secluded, and one bathroom shared with the whole family and all cabins is not enough.
Based on previous reviews, we had higher expectations.
Transfer costs are high, and our pickup arrived more than two hours late.
However, the overall feel is better at other places in Raja Ampat.
- Janiszyn (10/5): - Lokalizacja Posilki. Monotonne
- Loraine (3/5): Based on previous reviews, we had higher expectations regarding the service and the food. Unfortunately, these did not m - The location and the view The service, the host, the food.. most of the people we met left earlier than planned.
Recomendo
- Janneke Josette (9/5): Super - Eten! Super kok!
- Katie (10/5): A special gem in a beautiful location! - The view from our room was fantastic! The rooms are generously sized, comfortable and clean. We had our own provide deck to enjoy the view. The food was delicious and generous. All the staff and kids were so friendly and helpful. HIGHLY recommend. Breakfast was a bit of a sad affair, however that was the case at all the homestays so we just assumed that breakfast is not really a proper meal for the locals.
- Philipp (10/5): - Awesome place to stay and experience Raja Ampat. Everyone was very helpful and I had a great time there. There was different amazing food every day!
- Andreja (9/5): -
- Anna (7/5): Very nice snorkeling spot in front of this homestay. - Nice location for snorkelling. Traditional village close by. Very friendly children of the family ;-) Our hut was one of the oldest but spacious and clean. Food was ok but limited. Bathroom can be cleaner and would be nice to have another one as one for guests and staff is sometimes not enough. It is homestay but owner is not so present - I would say he is present when you buy tours from him... This was different than in other homestay during our stay in Raja Ampat.
- Nicholas (10/5): Great homestay experience - Stayed 2 night at Marwes Homestay and wish we stayed longer. This is an interesting homestay perched on top of coastal limestone cliffs. There is a timber walkway from the beach to access the bungalows. Being elevated on the cliff, there was always a nice breeze. The view from the bungalows face a secluded bay and cloud covered interior mountain range on Batanta. Picturesque, especially at dawn. There is a coastal jungle and beach walk to the local village of Marandanweser - authentic West Papua village with traditional thatch hut construction with a friendly vibe. The bungalows at Marwes are very large, well provisioned and each one has an undercover, plus outdoor veranda with inflatable techno yellow hammocks – weird thing that sits on the timber deck, looks like a hot dog bun but super comfortable. The food was very good with lots of different fruit offered at each meal. Marwes was the only homestay, out the 13 different ones we stayed at, that provided plush hotel style bath towels. The manager at Marwes Homestay is Erwin, he speaks good English and was helpful with any request. If you book through Booking.com you will deal with Mr. Komang, who responds in English and was good with all communications. They offer lots of tours and activities, however we just wanted to chill at Marwes. We got 2 bars of 4G Telkomsel wifi signal from the tower at Marandanweser Village from around 7am til 5pm – the signal is not strong but enough to check messages. Power was on from later in the afternoon til after midnight. They positioned the petrol generator well away from the main bungalow location which made the generator hum almost inaudible at night – I wish every homestay did this! Marwes is a premium homestay close to all the things you would want to see and do on the Dayang side of Batanta. I would recommend at least 3 to 4 nights at Marwes, you will not be disappointed. I would rate Marwes as one of the better homestay experiences in all of Raja Ampat. All good
- Sam (9/5): - Beautiful location, we had the new bungalow which had a lovely comfy bed and amazing view. Erwin the host was very friendly and helpful. Erwin could arrange trips and diving which were excellent. Food was good and plentiful and the cake was delicious 😋 None
- Martijn (9/5): - Wauw!
- Zsofia11 (10/5): - We had a wonderful time at Marwes homestay. The bungalow was comfortable to sleep in, and great to rest and enjoy the view from the veranda. The generator is far from the bungalows so it is quiet at night.
We had fun snorkeling at the house reef - we saw millions of fish, reef sharks too, and a moray eel right under our bungalow!
Erwin looked after us well and took us for a jungle walk, and he showed us the mantas which was one of the highlights of our trip to Raja Ampat.
The food was absolutely delicious! The best we had in Indonesia.
- Theresa (7/5): -
- Christoph (10/5): - Sehr schöne Lage an einem Riff. Sehr freundliche Gastgeber Familie.
- Bouabdallah (10/5): Amazing thanks everyone - i loved all, especially the team whom William, Erwin and all the family. It was wonderful team, very warmed and cheerful. These guys are like family now. Take care my friends, i miss u already! nothing!
- Coco (10/5): Exceptional - This is Coco and Echo from China!!!
We had unbelievable 4 nights in Marwes Homestay, Ervin brought us to see Meta, Kuskus, Coconut crab, sunset…everything we would like to see just tell Ervin! He's a sweet, reliable, smart boy with big smile, and definitely an artist with many talents on painting , artworks.
Ervin learned English by himself, very fascinating please keep up the goodwork, and we will see you next time!!
nThere is a village 5 mins walk from the homestay, we went for walk everyday and the people kids there are just sooo Nice.
This is absolutely a loving big family with a lot of laughters every day.
And the food and homemade cake by the aunts are so delicious we will definitely miss them after we back to China.
We also had a lot of fun go fishing with William, a funny boy always laughing.
Joel, another sweet boy but very very shy, reliable though hhh!
We strongly recommend you stay here if you come to Batanta!
They even prepare breakfast for us when we leave 5 am. Remember to bring mosquito spray if you plant to walk in the jungle...
they have mosquito net in the bedroom for sure
- Anna (10/5): Highly recommend this place, it is super super charming! - This place is absolutely gorgeous, lost in the middle of nowhere, we had a beautiful view on our balcony bungalow! Snorkeling just under the bungalows. The host Erwin and his family were super nice and brought us to amazing places.
- Victoria (10/5): So beautiful here, there was an amazing village 5-10 minutes away, where the snorkelling was spectacular just past the m - The huts were amazing, we had the end one looking down to the sea, we saw little sharks and rays swimming past every day. You can just swim out from the little private beach onto the reef, there was so many fish, turtles and sharks 😍 Nothing
- Lisanne (10/5): Exceptional - We had the best time at Marwes homestay! The house has a beautiful balcony with a private beach and the food is the best we’ve had in Raja Ampat with delicious fresh fish and home baked cake every day :) Erwin is a super host and took us to the waterfall and snorkeling in Wai. Thank you so much Erwin, we will come back one day. Yeehaw!
- Mélodie (10/5): Amazing stay - I loved everything : the beautiful environnement between océan and jungle, the spacious and confortable bungalow over water, the delicious and complete food (and it's the only time in Raja Ampat that the food was delivered in the room, like room service!), the kindness of Erwin...
I will surely come back there, it was so relaxing ! It seems to be a lack of seriousness concerning the boat services offered :
- i was supposed to be picked up in Waisai and even if i confirmed several times to make sure everything was ok, nobody came to pick me up ! And i didn't receive any news for several hours. So very disappointed about that.
- activities are not always fully experienced : they can be shorten, some spots are sometimes cancel without explanations, and the price stays the same
- Bram (9/5): good basic homestay with excellent hosts - The hosts, Erwin and William were incredible. Also the aunt who cooked and baked the cakes made our stay the best experience.
- Annabelle (10/5): A great getaway - This homestay is the perfect place to unplug and enjoy nature. All the staff are amazing but a special shout out to Erwin and William who went out of their way to make our stay extra special, especially for our daughter. The rooms are basic but have comfy beds and pillows and good mosquito nets. The rooms were very clean and so was the bathroom. The food was always plentiful and varied. Would love to stay here again.
- Miriam (8/5): Very good - Marwes' is a small and quiet homestay. The reef in front is pretty good and also nearby you find several other good snorkeling spots. Erwin manages the homestay and is attentive and eager to please. We did some great trips with him. We also loved to have a village at a short walk's distance for a flavour of local life. Food from ibu Ofan and Joni was delicious: every day fresh fish and many homegrown vegetables and fruits. Just one bathroom for all guests. It will be lovely when the dining room is finished, as that will make connection with other guests easier.
- Barb (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice and helpfull people, special Will and Ervin. They are the Best drivers, free divers and they can find coconuts every where. Beautifull homestay and Village nearbay. Guys thx for all. All is perfect
- Tatiana (4/5): Good people, but lack of comfort - We left Marwes homestay with very mixted feelings. The family there is very welcoming and nice, Erwin and Philip always bring us a fresh tasty fish for a dinner. The village nearby is a total gem, it's very unique for Raja Ampat, as the houses are built in a traditional way, also the soil on hills allow locals to do farming and grow their own vegetables and fruits. In general local villagers are awesome people, you can have a pleasure to go around with translator on phone. Also, if you want kayaking, there is one little shop with a parrot in a village and lady there has one kayak, we asked it for rent and she was super happy. Highly recommend On the bad part, one night we had ants falling on our heads in bungalow during sleep, which was super unpleasant. We asked what we can do, if there a possibility to change bungalow to another one where is no ants, but we didn't receive any help. And on the next day all family stopped smiling to us and we felt very unwelcoming. It was very weird, especially that we weren't rude or anything. We just wanted a help how to deal with ants.
In general conditions are not very comfortable, it was very stuffy in the hut during the night even with an open door, there is no fan. Also be aware of rats coming each night to steal bananas or other food. Sadly, here we had mosquitos and flies, so it was less pleasant to spend evening at the terrace. And no shower, only a bucket for washing yourself. Food is tasty, but repetitive.
For corals it was also a bit of disappointment after Kri/Mansuar islands, many are dead. For snorkeling I recommend to go after the village until the next homestay, it's around 10min walk, corals are more alive there.
- Anders (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful homestay with only two little houses by the sea on the beach. It was truly paradise!! Very friendly family and excellent food. Nice house reef. Well arranged excursions to see dugong and casuary.
