Guest Reviews
- JARED EDWIN (10/5): - Excellent location to walk or take a short bus ride to the Old City of Jerusalem.
- Floro (6/5): - I like the location - near the Old City. I don't like the bathroom wherein you can find mildew in several areas on the walls and floor. The room was very small for 3 adult persons. On our first night, there was no person on the reception desk.we called several times but no answer.
- David Scott (10/5): - Great staff and location
- brian george (6/5): - It was a great price. I was not oaying for glamour or glitz. Shower was great. Towel service and linen were good. Room was clean. Could walk to the wall if your an estute traveller. Staff were quiet but friendly.... i would stay there again.... it was a good motel.... a place to sleep and venture out from...
- David (2/5): - Evrything was broken did not work out
- Dr John (8/5): 4 nights exploring Jerusalem and Bet Lehem - I wanted something in keeping with the area and not a sterile chain hotel and this was it. I liked the location on the slope of Mount Olive, passing by Gethsemane as I usually walked in and out of the city - with Bus stops close to the Hotel if required. Room was big enough, comfy bed, decent shower and A/C plus a safe that was actually easy to use for a change :) I liked the basic but good breakfast but not entirely impressed with plastic/styrofoam beakers/cups but compensated by cooked to order omelettes.
- Adil (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Excellent place to stay, clean rooms, nice breakfast, great staff especially Layla
They were all supportive, helpful and kind.
Approx 12 min walk from Al Aqsa, busses easy available to catch.
- Karla (2/5): - This hotel was disgusting and is below any human standard. The sheets were stained and the replacement sheets were so old they had tiny balls on them from being washed so much. There is NO WIFI except in the lobby. Not only did I sleep in my clothes but I could not turn off the lights because the switch was connected to the outlet and when it was turned off you cannot charge laptop/phone. If you’re not a member of the Addams family go elsewhere cause this place is a DIVE!! The parking lot was a trash pit and the whole place was just downright creepy and unsafe for a single woman. Run, don’t walk to ANY OTHER hotel or sleep outside. The dirty ground will def be cleaner.
- joseph (4/5): - Some reception staff not very friendly, fridge and heater not working. Poor customer service
- anna (10/5): - Staff was nice
- william (6/5): TIRED - Was very difficult to pull this hotel up on google maps, I don't know why. A taxi driver refused to take us because he couldn't find the place either. When we did get a driver, he also had some difficulty locating the hotel. The sidewalk and outside entrance was very dirty and uninviting.....cigarette butts and trash all over. Not pleasant. The bathroom was modern and updated, but the furniture definitely needed to be updated. The carpet was absolutely filthy and worn. This hotel needs some work and would not stay here again until some renovations are done. The positive was the staff, they were extremely helpful and courteous.
- Carlos F (10/5): - The staff deserves 10 stars, I was so impressed by the friendly and helpfulness of the staff. They made of our stay a great experience. Layla, Yusef, Mustafa and the young ladies at the front desk were awesome, they went above and beyond to help us. They are conveniently located at the Mount of Olives and accessible to public transportation, very close to the Old City. I will definitely come back to the Commodore Hotel.
- John (8/5): - This was a comfortable and peaceful place to stay in a busy and sometimes tense city. The room is not fancy but the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom very good. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again.
- Pedro (10/5): - People ar very friendly and help you in whatever you need. It is not a luxurious hotel, but they offer you a good priece & services to stay. I enjoyed very much my stay at Commodore.
- joseph (10/5): - The staff is great! The man that works at the breakfast room is so sweet. A great man. We love him.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Helpful staff, friendly, Room was OK (but small), complained about late night construction work and loud drilling and banging noises from kitchen below, which they kindly stopped around 11pm. Windows could do with superior sound insulation, being woken up early hours for Muslim early prayers from loud speakers close by was frustrating. Also annoying, they had no evening meal / dinner service, do to lack of guest numbers, only serve dinners when they have booked tour groups in the hotel. Otherwise a comfortable stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The only good thing about this hotel is that is close by to the old city of Jerusalem but staff are good people and the breakfast was fair but what i didn't like was the loud siren stlye Muslim Pryer at 5 in the morning and 6 and at noon and at 5 evening that blast right Thur the room at all part of the day and I mean no offense but I love my sleep and that didn't sit well with me and the dirty stares because it's a Muslim community all around and there is a tense conflict with other Faith's which I think is fair to state because people come and don't know what there in for plus the room carpets need upgrade bad to much dust in the room... And with that it's fair to say I will not be coming back....
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not very good at all. - Not very comfortable. Terrible bad, pillows, room carpet, noisy, very outdated. Staff are friendly though.
- john (10/5): Great experience - Real middle eastern experience, area felt completely safe, people friendly
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fine hotel, everything there, clean, and the breakfast was good.
- CHRIS (6/5): If felt good. - I enjoyed this hotel. It is located in a relatively quiet area of the Mount of Olives, close to Gethsemane Gardens. The staff is very courteous and the family who runs the hotel (an Arabic family) is very educated and makes you feel welcome. Although the room is standard, the breakfast is great with several kinds of humus and spreads. The hotel is in a Muslim neighborhood, and we could hear the prayer call on the loudspeaker (It was Ramadan) but it feels safe.
- R (4/5): New rating please - Stay was not good. It is definitely not a 4* hotel. It is 2.5*
- Graham S. (8/5): Jerusalem holiday - Hotel met expectations. Staff were helpful friendly and available at all times. Only downside was that the location was not within good proximity of cafe/restaurants if on foot and which would also involve hilly terrain. However, this is hardly the fault of the hotel which we would definitely reccomend.
- adam (10/5): - The staff here are very helpful. The hotel is in a Muslim neighborhood which is for a much more authentic stay than being in the touristy part of town. Right beside The Old City. The hotel was amazing. Fresh hot breakfast buffet!! The only down side the internet was not always very reliable and there was no hot water for one day when the hotel filled up. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a nice quiet stay!
- Michael (8/5): Walking distance to Temple Mount - The best aspect about this hotel was that it was within walking distances to Temple Mount and other significant tourist attractions. A mere 20 minute walk and you're at Damascus Gate, the best gate for seeing Temple Mount. Plus, it was close to the Tomb of the Virgin Mary among other places. The hotel itself was solid, good service, friendly and the room was fine. I docked a star and am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because they have no business center despite claiming it on the website and having a brochure that says they do. For me, this was important as it was one of the reasons I booked this place in the first place. So just keep in mind this hotel doesn't have a business center.
- Majid (8/5): Clean, Comfortable - It is great hotel for someone wants to just sleep there and get moving doing other things. very clean, comfortable, and staff are nice. According to US standards, this hotel would be a 3 star not 4. They need to improve providing room necessities to be 4 star hotel. But overall, it was a great stay for the price. I would for sure come back again.
- Forrest (10/5): The Commodore is a great place to stay! - We loved our stay at the Commodore Hotel. The BYU Jerusalem Center is an amazing back drop. The hotel is very modern and well kept. The staff is quite friendly. It was a great place to stay!
- ASK (8/5): Friendly hotel - The room was modern and looked recently refurbished. Everywhere in the hotel was clean. The staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the Old City. The price was very reasonable and I feel that I got value for money for this stay.
- kane (8/5): Good location with friendly staff - The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. If you stay at this hotel, catch the bus from outside the hotel to the main station and you can get to Bethlehem the Dead Sea etc from there. If you are not the type of person who eats rice and vegetables for breakfast, tell them and the chef will happily make some other options. Enjoyed my stay, only down point was I expected a double bed not 2 singles
- Joel (6/5): fine except for wierd power shutoff - to my surprise and lack of research the hotel was located in east jerusalem and i had doubts about my safety. everything was fine and the free breakfast was excellent. unfortunately i gave room comfort the lowest rating because without movement everything including the heat turned off in thirty minutes.it was january and the room was probably 55f. I called the desk twice and was told thats how it works. on checkout i mentioned it again and was told it could have been circumvented! i do notknow what to think. neighborhood was ok except there was a huge amount of garbage in the field next store and across the street. there is frequent and cheap bus service to damascus gate or its a very nice walk.
- Verified traveler (8/5): First night in Israel. - Not great neighborhood. Great breakfast. All else was satisfactory.
- Mansoor (8/5): Hotel Stay - Descent hotel - very nice staff. Breakfast was very nice.
Room was small, but did the job. Towels need to be replaced.
- zenni (8/5): Good friendly people, bottom of mount olives. - We stayed at this hotel for three nights, when we arrived at 11:30. They gave us our keys to the rooms straightaway, considering check in time is 3:00. Walking up to the temple is a mission as its uphill. It's away from the old city and restaurants. There is a pizza shop close by.
- steven (8/5): Israel - It was a good stay the dinner is a little overpriced but the service is good
- Brian (8/5): A day off the cruise ship - We were on a 14 day cruise and had a two day stay in port. Instead of traveling back and forth to Jerusalem which is 1.5 hours from town and $100US taxi ride we opted to stay at the Commodore Hotel in Eastern Jerusalem. It is within walking distance from the Herod Gate. The bus 75 which stops right in front of the hotel was much faster and very convenient. The hotel is isolated unless you have a car but for one night it was great. Breakfast was one of the nicest we have had in some time. The best part about the hotel is the front desk. We forgot our converter on the boat and they very quickly found us one. We were given a complete overview of the area and it make us feel more at home. Being in the Muslim area of the city outskirts one got a very good feeling of being in an exotic location but feeling very safe. Nothing like walking the streets of that fable city after all of the tourists have gone. .
- David (8/5): Home away - We had an excellent stay. The staff were extremely customer service oriented. From a physical standpoint, the hotel was 3.5 stars, but from a customer service standpoint, they were 6 points on a 5 point scale. We felt comfortable, safe and best of all, at home.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic team - always ready to help - Clean, friendly, you can walk to the old town - though it's a bit of a climb. Night time probably better with a car but recommended!
- Dan (6/5): It'll doin a pinch - Rooms were clean, but small. They have individual climate controls, but sadly these are locked. Internet was unavailable - front desk said it would resolve, but didn't. They provide breakfast and have dinner service(billed). They were quite friendly and tried to be helpful. In all, all I can recommend is it'll do in a pinch.
- Andre (10/5): Modest rooms, but modern and great place to stay! - This was in the Arab quarter and so a really good place t stay during Jewish Sabbath. Also very close to many of the Christian sites. Also hotel has small rooms and beds, but is very new and well maintained and clean. Overall I would recommend it as it as great value for the price. We got rooms for $100 a night.
- kepi (10/5): Everyone staff member was helpful, inviting. - The staff: Anatta, Abumusa, Monte, Nader, Naseem and Ramsi were pleasant, friendly and helpful during my stay. I would recommend staying here to anyone.
- Paul (10/5): 4-star equivalent except for room size - My wife and I just spent two nights at the Commodore. After reading some of the reviews, I was concerned to learn that we had been placed there after a blind bid online. However it was much better than expected. While traveling around Israel and the Palestinian territories in the preceding days with a tour group, we stayed in a number of 4-star and even one 5-star hotel. The Commodore was a match for most of them except that the rooms are small. Without exception the staff bent over backward to accomodate us. First, when I explained that my wife and I use CPAPs to sleep at night, they immediately disabled the motion sensor system in our room. Breakfast the first day (Saturday) was great -- good coffee, fried eggs or omelette on the food bar, too many choices to name. An attendant was there constantly to make sure everything was replenished. Unusual in our experience in Israel was that they also had a fruit bar. The second morning (Sunday) must have been the cook's day off, because the quality of the meal was far below the previous day.
This was the day we had to go to TLV for our flight out of the country. Coincidentally it turned out to be the day of a massive demonstration by the Ultra-Orthodox Jews. They closed down Jerusalem (including all collective taxis) and even closed the highway to Tel Aviv! The staff at the Commodore made sure we got a private taxi and that we left early before things got bad.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Friendly and reasonable - Very friendly and helpful staff. 10 minutes walk to old City. Will return.
- Verified traveler (2/5): horrible location - The hotel was nice but the location was terrible, no restaurant close, no bar close. The area arround was very bad.
- Verified traveler (8/5): close to all must-see sights - Friendly staff and convenient location.
- Gregg (10/5): Good place for the $. GREAT service and people - This is a great hotel option if you value customer service. The people at the front desk, specifically the two ladies had the biggest smiles. They were VERY helpful in getting us into our room, arranging a tour, dinner, and transportation. We loved the food. We had 3 breakfasts and one dinner at the hotel and truly enjoyed it. Again the people in the dining area were very friendly. While the hotel is within a 15 minute walk to Old Jerusalem there is a bus stop directly across the street that comes very few min for about one dollar. Worth it! The walk is up hill. The rooms were very comfortable and a good value. I would stay in this hotel again. The outside area is older but we came and went at all hours and always felt safe.
- Doreen (6/5): call to prayer a real wake-up call - The hotel was clean and attractive. Breakfast was fine. The staff was pleasant but several times the information we received from them was insufficient to be useful. One example, the person at the front desk told us we could get the bus back to the hotel across from the Damascus Gate, but neglected to mention that it left from one of several bus lots behind buildings on the other side of the street. The biggest problem was being awakened at 3:00 or so every morning (middle of the night) by the Muslem Call to Prayer. Very convenient if you wish to pray at that hour. Less convenient if you actually wish to sleep. It would have been more expensive to stay at the same distance from the old city in West Jerusalem. Another plus was seeing a brochure at the hotel for the Palestinian Heritage Museum which we enjoyed tremendously.
- Bob and Jane (10/5): First class quality of service - Hotel is in the Arab Quarter and some taxis etc expressed concern. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Management and staff made us soooo welcome, treated us with sooo much respect and courtesy, we would recommend anyone to stay there. Whilst there was no alcohol served at dinner, we were still invited in imbibe in our room if we so desired. It was only a short (though hilly) to all sights and the Old City and other shopping precincts. GREAT PEOPLE>>>Thankyou for a great stay of 6 nights. The only possible thing that would have improved the room would be tea and coffee making facilities.
- cdfdale (8/5): Two Couples-Late March-3 Night Stay - PROS: GREAT Staff (especially Chef Mohammed and Desk Clerk Anette(?)). Great buffet and breakfast, recently renovated, quiet neighborhood after dark, close to Old City, bus stop out front, hospital nearby, fast elevator, small gift shop, TV and wi-fi in room.
CONS: traffic noise during the day, limited parking, mediocre room views
- Bruce (6/5): Ready yourself for a morning surprise - A nicely-rated hotel near the Old City at a good price...but I found out why it might have been priced so affordably.
It was my first night in Jerusalem and I did not yet understand their bus/train system adequately. So, I took a cab to the hotel and found that it was located in an Arab area of the city. I had no problem with that and presumed that this hotel, which seemed to be in good shape, would be like any other hotel. That was, at least, until 4:00 in the morning.
My body clock (still on U.S. time) woke me a few minutes before 4. Then, as soon as the clock turned to 4 AM, Islamic prayers started playing through a loudspeaker and it was so loud that I thought the speakers were right across the street.
As someone who is not used to that, it was rather unnerving. The singing was very lovely, but it was a reminder that I was not in Kansas (or, well, California) anymore. And it was FOUR AM!! The prayers stopped after a few minutes and started again about 10 minutes later. Another five minutes and they were done....until the scene repeated at 5 AM!
If you either don't mind waking up at 4 AM or prepare yourself with some good earplugs, you'll be fine, I suppose. The room was very clean and the bed was comfy. The breakfast buffet was decent, as well.
After breakfast, I was told that I could catch a bus into Jerusalem "right across the street", but I'd have to wave it down. I did so and (with suitcases beside me) waved at the approaching bus--which roared right past me.
- Iman (6/5): Good Value - We stayed here for 2 nights on Dec 27 -29, 2012
The location is about 2 miles from the Damascus Gate, or right outside the Muslim Quarters.
Pros:
The room is not spacious but clean and the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is designed for a single person use at one time else, you'll find it hard to move around with 2 persons in it.
The staff are very friendly and courteous.
They offer Free wifi throughout the building including in the room, however we found the signal was weak and intermittently dropped during our stay.
The breakfast selection is decent with some of Arabic dish which was very good.
If you are looking for a place to stay and decent, this is the place. However, it’s not located on a major street with cafes or stores nearby. Bus no 75 and stops right in the front of the hotel will take you straight to the Damascus Gate.
Cons: The location is right in a neighborhood so it was a bit noisy. The room walls were so thin we could hear phone rings from next door or when someone inserting the key card when they enter a room. The lobby was dark and had old décor.
