Guest Reviews
- Lesley (10/5): Great accommodation in a beautiful location. - Fantastic location, really comfortable bed, lots of nice touches. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful. Perfect accommodation for us before and after the Bealach na Ba cycle race. We'll definitely be back.
- Darren (8/5): Really lovely places, the location is stunning and the facilities were great - Excellent facilities as we stayed in one of the cabins. The welcome was fantastic, such friendly and helpful hosts. We would definitely stay again. The views are to die for!
Ras
- Michael (8/5): A true off-grid experience of Highland life that we will fondly remember for many years! - A unique experience that we loved. Eileen was incredibly welcoming, happy and helpful. It was a bit of a struggle to get in and out of the teepee (ageing bodies) but once hunkered down for the night it was really cost and the shower much more enjoyable than expected! A picnic bench nearer the tent would have been good.
- De Gruyther (9/5): We just loved the hosts, they are amazing and would definitely stay again. Recommend teepee fo warmer seasons and cabin - Very unique experience. Hosts were super amazing & really friendly. They were very accommodating and genuine in all interactions. This is more a warmer weather experience. Suggest the cabins in colder seasons. Teepee was sturdy, warm and bed quite comfy. We were caught out by the rain and wind and as kitchen and shower were outside it made it difficult to use and really enjoy the Croft and scenery (which was lovely). Due to weather, sleeping through the wind was a little difficulty but it is a teepee and Mother Nature. (Note ear plugs are available in teepee- we didn’t realise)
- Jessica (10/5): Lovely wee off grid gem. - Unfortunately the weather was too poor to stay in the tipi due to high winds. However we were quickly re-located to a cabin that was on site which was perfect for the night! A lovely wee stay with incredibly friendly hosts, and animals galore! This stay was the R&R we were looking for after a long week of hillwalking. Had everything we would expect for an unplugged stay (the outdoor shower was a real giggle!) Definitely will be back 🙂
- Robert (10/5): First time but not our last. Fantastic atmosphere very comfy and clean - Never tried off grid before but wow what an eye opener. Owners took us to the tee- pee showed us everything . Lovely double bed. Only one problem it was very windy and poured with rain on and off all night, but it didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves even had an outside shower. What a fantastic experience done it once so looking forward to to book for next year. Thank you so much N/A
- Chay (10/5): Absolutely loved my stay including my outdoor shower. - Absolutely loved the location, off grid, the tipi was amazing and the hosts just topped it all off.
Plan to come back at some point soon. Nothing - just wished I had the time off to stay longer.
- charlotte (10/5): We came for the Isle of Skye, but discovered the beauty of Lochcarron in - Stunning location, good access to tourist sights including Isle of Skye. The hosts were incredible, welcoming and provided all information needed, it was lovely to hear about the animals (goats, chicken, sheep and pigs).
It is off grid, so if that’s not for you, look elsewhere, we really enjoyed being outside and close to nature, including the outdoor shower!
There are options to eat in the village but most need booking ahead. We liked everything.
- Meeli (10/5): - The location and view was amazing. Definitely a different experience (specially the outdoor shower) and highly recommend it, we wish we had more time to enjoy it.
- Arianna (8/5): Un’avventura!
- nuzzaci (7/5): -
- Mark (8/5): Great Location with views over the loch - friendly owner - Location - views over the loch
Owner - very friendly
Upgraded from a tent
The pigs - they loved a blueberry muffin each 😀
Everywhere was clean Not really for us - we need facilities inside where we are sleeping ( this is just our opinion )
- Kimberley (8/5): A fun nights stay in a cosy, and well kitted out tipi. - The tipi was very cosy, and it was a fun adventure. The owners were very welcoming and explained where everything was and how it worked. The weather was dry so there was no problem with all the utilities being outside and a few yards from the tipi. However, if it was wet it would be a slightly different story.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gregory (9/5): Excellent stay - Great views from the accommodation. The owner was very friendly and ran through where everything was and how it worked.
Slight change from the photos on the Booking.com website, with the accommodation an A-frame cabin rather than a dome tent. The room was nicely furnished and comfortable.
It was great to see the pigs, goats and sheep nearby.
- Adrian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karin (10/5): Tenting it - Stunning views from the tent, we sat for ages just watching the changing scenery.
The first time we had used this type of accommodation and it was definitely an experience, loved it. The weather that night.😂
- Nick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Duncan (10/5): We had a great stay - the location is incredible and the owners could not have been more helpful! -
- Lynsey (9/5): Fabulous location for a completely off-grid stay. - Location was beautiful on the croft, the hosts were lovely and warm, and the next door neighbours (Loki and Shiva the pigs) were great company. We had great fun staying for the night and were wishing we'd booked for a little longer. The off grid facilities are great, with everything you need for a sort stay. No something I didn't like, just a bit of advice... There's a bit of a trek up a steep path to get to the dome which Eileen (host) had warned us about in advance (though I forgot to tell my sister - oops!). There's no direct vehicle access up to the dome so pack light :-)
- Maria (9/5): Superb - Eileen has been a fantastic host taking care, first of all of our well being , as weather conditions were challenging. Great example of customer first!
- Stuart (8/5): Very good -
- Nicola (8/5): Great fun first night of our trip in the highlands and fun experience - It was fun comfortable warm and friendly A little basic
No so much glamping
Think the tend should have fancied the better view over the loch and easier access to toilet shower ect
- Stefano (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed spending some time off grid at Eileen's place, close to Skye but still far enough from the crowd.
In the tent there's all you need for a comfortable sleep.
- Antons (9/5): Add some adventure to your stay - It was an adventure in itself, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We didn't expect to have so much fun preparing food in the camp kitchen, using the camp shower, and even admiring the beautiful view from the toilet. We also were lucky to have the furthest dome which had the best view. It was also nice that we had our suitcases delivered to the dome from the parking. Keep in mind that you will need to walk a bit to reach the dome, so pack everything you’ll need in advance. We did this and enjoyed our stay. If you're visiting in the summer, don't forget to bring insect repellent - I made the mistake of forgetting about the midges. Despite this, the adventure aspect of our stay far outweighed any minor inconveniences.
- Adele (9/5): A quirky place to stay for those who appreciate a good view - It was unique! A stunning view from quirky accommodation. It was a great experience. The blankets and hot water bottle kept us warm.
- Emma (10/5): Outstanding, exceptional and awesome don’t even come close to it! - Myself and my partner stayed here for one night during our NC500 trip and to say everything about our stay was exceptional is an understatement! To begin with we received the warmest of welcomes from Eileen and Andrew, without a doubt the nicest couple I’ve ever met. Andrew took all our stuff up to the dome on his quad giving us the chance to take a stroll up the hill and take in the outstanding views. Facilities were better than expected from an “off the grid” property and the little touches dotted around the place were a beautiful and well thought out surprise. The comfy bed, beanbags and cosy blankets made for the best nights stay on our trip. We were sad to leave the next morning and just wish we could have stayed longer but we enjoyed the best breakfast of our trip at the cafe along the road at the Golf Club which Eileen also runs. Can’t say enough amazing things about Thainstone, has to be experienced to be appreciated. Thank you both so much ❤️ Not a single negative!
- Damien (10/5): Exceptional - It was great fun to experience this night in the dome. Despite a rainy day and a damp atmosphere, the dome was sufficiently equipped to keep us warm throughout.
The facilites were well equipped and simple to use.
The hosts were very friendly and nice!
Also you can pet the pigs, who are very cute and friendly! Rest assured though, they will not in any way disrupt your stay even if you're in the dome that's closest to their pen. They are completely quiet.
- Mathilde (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful location with a cozy tent
- Kelly (9/5): Superb -
- Amy (10/5): Absolutely beautiful spot! Amazing views and very comfortable and cosy! Will be back! - Absolutely love staying here! it was our second time and we will definitely be back again. Such a beautiful location, so peaceful and has everything you need! Hosts are lovely and welcoming! Thanks for a great stay! Made friends with the pigs too who enjoyed a good belly rub 🥰
- Sattar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): Very good - Peace and quiet The walk up the hill
