Guest Reviews
- Margaret (7/5): Good -
- Jacqui (8/5): We would stay there again, in the winter... - It was in a beautiful, quiet location only 12 minutes from Gatwick. It seemed to have been recently renovated, new windows, the entire facility was immaculate. Also, there was a lift, we could not have done the spiral staircase with our luggage, it was however, a beautiful staircase. No AC, our room was 82 degrees, not a breath of air.
- Claire (9/5): Relaxing beautiful escape from the busy local area. Ideally located for convenience. - A beautiful setting and lovely comfortable rooms. I felt very relaxed and rested.
- Anonymous (7/5): Was a very nice house and location, but certain things let it down. - The location and decor was very good. The lift was very handy as we had suit cases. Unfortunately we didn’t get the introduction email, so did not know the process when we arrived at the property. The lady we phoned sorted it out and sent me all the entry instructions. There was a dog that barked continuously through the day, late into the evening and woke us up at 5.45am. The mattress seemed uneven and I kept rolling to one side, which was uncomfortable.
- Bettina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (9/5): A lovely place to stay and relax and also enjoy. we loved it here - The house, lake, garden and privacy of the whole place. We love old period houses and love to stay in them when we can.
Big bedroom and comfortable bed and very quiet place.
No shoe policy. Wasn’t greeted by any one when we arrived. Felt strange just going in.
Many long human hairs on the room floors and throughout the landing and stairs. They collected on the bottom of my sock.
Toilet wasn’t that clean unfortunately. But the bath was clean.
No hot water when we arrived early evening and none in the morning either so wasn’t able to shower in the morning.
But owner did explained after we said about it in the evening. They did see us off at the end of our stay.
- Anna (8/5): Huntsland is special in many ways - Huntsland is a beautiful historic building tucked away in the woods - and yet in close vicinity to Gatwick Airport and local pubs in Turner‘s Hill and East Grinstead. The interior is tastefully refurbished and boasts of old-time charm. It was a memorable stay. It takes a little getting used to the rather hands-off approach by the hosts. On a second visit, we would be better prepared to help ourselves.
Here are some pointers:
1.The code for the gate and your room will be sent in an email.
2.The bedrooms are located upstairs. The elevator is private.
3.Although the host lives on the premises, you may not see him unless you message him.
4.Breakfast is minimal and self-service. Tea/Coffee bags. Milk and Jogurt are in the fridge in the corner of the breakfast room.
- Eric (10/5): It was a wonderful stay in a perfect English residence. - The location was perfect for us as we have family nearby. Although it is convenient for Gatwick airport it is very quiet and in an idyllic country setting all behind private key entry gates. Breakfast was self serve but there was an ample choice and made it easy to leave early in the morning to get to the airport. Owner was very polite and accommodating. The house is absolutely beautiful and stunning. Shoes were required to be removed upon entering which we completely respected. Nothing. We would definitely go again.
- Kristina (10/5): Exceptional - Really enjoyed this over night stay. Beautiful room with a very comfortable bed. The views out the window into the countryside were stunning and all you hear at night is the sound of an owl! 10/10
- Rosie (9/5): Superb - A beautiful place to stay. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the grounds were lovely. We travelled with our baby who was made to feel welcome and there was plenty of space for the travel cot. There was an issue with our booking which had not gone through properly but the owners were quick to sort this and check us in. A few more options at the breakfast e.g. pastries or fruit would have been nice.
- Linda (9/5): Weekend trip - Lovely house, private drive had a lot of potholes to navigate, house lovely, managed to see one of our hosts for a few minutes at the beginning of our stay, breakfast was basic, toast, yoghurt, cereals and a packet of croissants, make your own drink and serve yourself. Bathroom hairs on floor and toilet seat needs tightening up as loose.
- Charmaine (8/5): A tranquil place. - The place was tranquil and clean. The only thing that needs to be improved is the pillow are a bit uncomfortable since they’re very thin. Could be helpful if they’re good quality ones so that guests can have good night’s sleep. But overall it was a nice stay.
- Julia (9/5): A real treat. - The house has been recently renovated so everywhere is clean and pristine. It felt a real treat to have the opportunity to share the owners beautiful home.
- Peter (8/5): - New decor, clean and elegant
- Karen (4/5): Arrogance - The experience was stifled and unwelcoming making you feel unappreciated. The house was exceptionally immaculate with rules for everything until it came to breakfast that felt that they couldn't wait to get rid of you References to calling us rats were hurtful.Giving me the wrong room and saying we would have to go in the basement if we didn't comply felt so criminally rude.If it wasn't for the arrogance and discomfort from being too perfect I would have loved it.
- Reza (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (5/5): A SHAME ... - Amazing location for peace and serenity. An exceptional dwelling. Feezing cold room - unbearable is truth.
Luke warm water for bath - very disappointed
Cheap bedroom pillows and only 2 - awful
Sparce breakfast - effortless
Over zealous lighting.
I feel it has the potential to be the very best hotel but operates as a poor hobby for owner.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Louise (10/5): Could not fault this property absolutely immaculate with lovely hosts - I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels but this really is outstanding.from the moment I walked in the door the presentation and cleanliness is unlike anywhere else even better than the photos, the host was lovely and welcoming, area was nice and quiet.I’ve paid for more expensive spa hotels and not experienced this high standard it’s just immaculate.the floors and staircase are in perfect condition probably due to the no shoe rule which is a great idea.i don’t normally do reviews but this is deserving of it I can’t say enough about it I will definitely be back.you will not regret booking this. It’s perfect for a relaxing break from the world or any occasion really. I really can’t find any fault
- Alyanna (10/5): PERFECT! 10/10 - Absolutely fantastic, exceeded our expectations by miles! Room was lovely and bed was so so comfy (four poster bed, fantastic surprise) it was an amazing room, good tv nice bathroom too! AMAZING. The architecture of the house was also beautiful. The breakfast had everything you needed and desired! The owners were also lovely and friendly! Exceptional value and in a perfect location for all the National Trust locations
- Lucy (7/5): A good stay in a quiet yet central location - Lovely big room, easy parking, great location Although advertised as Continental breakfast, it was still a bit frugal
- Sarah (8/5): Beautiful place with friendly hosts - Elegant room in a newly-refurbished stately home. The sunny breakfast room overlooked the lake and gardens, which was a treat. In summer you could enjoy the grounds. Walks are available in the beautiful countryside.
The house is very quiet, which suited us as we wanted a comfortable place to sleep for one night. There are some nice pubs and restaurants only a 5 minute drive away.
The hosts live in another part of the house and were friendly and available to help. The underfloor heating made it toasty warm. If you need to boost the temperature, ask the hosts for an electric heater (they have some). It is best not to increase the under-floor heating temperature in this well-insulated house, as it's very effective! We did and got rather hot in January. The hosts were very helpful though.
We were glad to have a sofa and tea-making facilities in our room, as there isn't a cafe or bar in the house, but there are plenty of nearby pubs.
- donna (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at this beautiful house. Everything was perfect from the rooms, breakfast, and hospitality. The interior decor was fabulous as were the grounds. So peaceful with no noise other than nature. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we would definitely stay again and recommend.
- Peter (9/5): Limited facilities totally compensated for by this SURPRISING GEM. - An impeccable secluded country house and grounds. Beautiful in decor and exquisite quality. For Summer, a swimming pool in a chalet and a substantial pond with lawns to relax. There is a small ballroom ideal for weddings.
No shoes rule throughout the interior seems strange until you see the quality of the polished wooden and part stone floors! A privately owned residence and therefore with very little inside access available for guests ( only bedroom and breakfast room). No connection wire nor wifi connection for the tv but wifi free for visitors.
- Sukie (10/5): A B and B of five star hotel quality. - This is a little gem of a place to stay- all the rooms are calm and comfortable very clean and quiet. The sheets are lovely cotton and comfortable. There is an air of peace and tranquility and just a little quirky!
- June (8/5): Very good - Loacation We were unaware/unprepared that no outside footwear was not allowed inside the property. Being December it was too cold to walk around in bare feet making it uneasy/unsafe walking down stairs with socks.
Breakfasts times were not in the information pack and we felt there could have more on offer for the continental breakfast eg fruit, cheese, ham.
- Manda (10/5): Absolutely stunning. Lovely bedroom right at the front and very comfortable with underfloor heating. A lovely bathroom a - Location/ quiet/ decor was stunning/ access instructions easy to do ( best place we have stayed in the UK) It was perfect
- Benjamin (8/5): Spooky! - The house and gardens are lovely - a hundred times better than staying at an airport hotel. We met the owner, by chance, and he was charming. It was a bit spooky as there were no other guests and no one to greet us. It is all self service. A friendly hello on arrival and a better breakfast would earn 10/10 (just a good coffee machine, some fruit and a little oven to warm the croissants!). Oh - and a basic shampoo and conditioner for those of us who rely on hotels to provide this.
- Paul (8/5): Beautiful location West Sussex - Beautiful property and rooms. Limited breakfast - cereal, toast, yoghurt only.
- Kathy (9/5): Great one night stay. - Good instructions which were helpful in the terrential rain. Code to get into main gates lighting as you approached. Another code to get keys for the room. Shoes not to be worn in the house. Spectacular spiral stair case to rooms, lift also available. Room spacious, plenty of storage, tea and coffee, small settee. Bathroom with bath and shower, limited wash provided. Underfloor heating and towel rail. Help ypourself breakfast downstairs off the ballroom. Fridge with milk, breads, spread, cereals, yoghurt and pastry. quiet and dark. Contact number for any queries. Not being teck savy some TV instuctions would be helpful if staying longer.
- India (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gail (10/5): Made for a great New Years Eve treat... - Very private location. Great location for visiting great countryside, historic sites and walks in the area. Owls hooting as I arrived. Barn Owl greeted me at the entrance! Hosts are lovely, welcoming and friendly. Beautiful decor throughout. Would definitely want to stay again. Not applicable.
- Christine (8/5): Good for our requirements - Picked for the location. Lovely grounds and house. All newly refurbished.
Nice room and bathroom.
Only issue was the bed being very hard so not a good nights sleep. Lovely and quiet though.
- Urvashi (9/5): Had a great stay. Self-served with clear guidance. Also included was continental breakfast which was a nice surprise. - Spacious, clean, well maintained, and quiet. N/a
- Beth (10/5): Exceptional - The property was absolutely beautiful, with plenty of parking space. We were left alone to our own devices and we were greeted with a friendly welcome. N/A
- Graeme (10/5): A very special place which we won’t forget. - This property is quite remarkable.
Not enough adjectives to express just how wonderful our short stay was.
Would recommend to anyone. It would have been extra special to have met the owners to tell them personally how fantastic their house and property were.
- Charlotte (4/5): So much potential, however small issues caused a huge disappointment - The house was stunning, extremely clean and tidy Unfortunately, the room was quite disappointing. There was no mirror in the bedroom, making it very difficult to get ready, especially for styling hair or doing makeup. On top of that, there were no plug sockets near a mirror, which made it practically impossible.
We booked a twin room but were only provided with one set of towels, which felt like an oversight. To make matters worse, there was no hot water, and we had to endure cold showers on a particularly wet and windy day.
We had originally planned to stay the night after going out, but we were so let down by the experience that we decided to go home instead.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Clive (9/5): An altogether excellent visit, communication from the hosts was exemplary and the property was both finished and present - High standard of finish, flexibility of the hosts, excellent and immediate communication from the hosts. Nothing.
- Laura (10/5): Beautiful house and grounds - Beautiful house and grounds! The room was large with very comfy beds and tea/coffee making facilities. We were not expecting a breakfast to be included however there is a breakfast room with food that you are able to help yourself too. Very happy with our stay here and would absolutely recommend and return again!
- Michael (10/5): WONDERFUL BETTER THE I EXPECTED - On arrival, i was welcomed with amazing grounds, perfect for a nice walk after a Long drive. i was welcomed by the owner and he showed me to room. The accommodation was beautiful with big bays windows over looking the grounds. The room was clean tidy, warm, Netflix's on the TV. I chose the hotel because of the location, which was perfect for the wedding. I was to attend. on my return later that evening, i had a wonderful nights sleep and good walk in the morning before leaving. I will stay again N/A
- Robert (10/5): A definite must! - Its a beautiful location and facility, with great service. Honestly if you want a phenomenal location, with all the charm one expects from the English countryside in a superb location, this is what you should go for.
- Mrs (5/5): Beautiful building nice surroundings room for little comfort improvements - Beautiful grounds close to the event we were attending polite warm welcome- big space Room was freezing and couldnt turn heating up as was locked on thermostat, no mini fridge/ or fridge to put drinks in.
- Amanda (4/5): Great room but the breakfast very disappointing and inconvenient getting through the main gates with a code. It felt lik - The decor was beautiful and the surrounding grounds were amazing Code needed to get through main gates was a challenge. The road leading to the property was challenging because only one car can drive through and very dark in the evening.
- Samuel (10/5): Excellent hosts in a beautiful setting - It is a beautiful building, the bedrooms feel immaculate with very comfortable beds. Stayed following a night at Tooley Farm which was very close. Would definitely recommend Nil
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful house and grounds Not so much didn’t like.. but tv in room was small, considering size of room and bed, I have bad eyesight and struggled to see with glasses on.
- Seb (10/5): Very welcomed & a stunning property with great hospitality from owners ! Even sent my charger back in the post that - Stunning property great value for money !
