Guest Reviews
- Donna (10/5): Return visit. Still happy. - Return visit to the Edgewater Motel. Still as happy as I was the first time. I will be back. It is perfect for relaxation and a morning walk on the beach.. Loved the thoughtful touches the owner supplied.
- Donna (10/5): So good. - Exceded expectations. I had to modify my booking and they did it quickly and without any issue. Super clean. The room came with a kitchenette and it was the best stocked kitchenette I have ever seen. New stove, new fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave, coffee maker and every possible dish, glass, pan, utensil you could possibly need. I was a bit concerned with highway noise but you could not hear a thing from inside the room. And the lovely owner was delightful. She was kind, welcoming and made me feel instantly comfortable. I could live there it was so comfortable. This will now be my go to place when I'm in the area. I loved the Edgewater. I'm trying to find any criticism but I can't. It truly was perfect for me.
- Cave (3/5): -
- Geddes (8/5): This was a lovely spot and great value for an overnight stay. - The boutique motel was exactly like advertised. Sitting on a bluff on Georgia Strait we had stunning views and a quiet nights stay The property is being renovated and updated. Our room was almost finished only a few paint spots left. The bed frame lifted when 2 people sat on the end and needed to be a bit more sturdy.
- Michael (7/5): Just what i needed as a one night stop over - Location and modern N/A
- Bette (4/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): -
- Gail (10/5): It was complete. :) - I didn't know there was a breakfast available. I like the front desk lady and the room, and the property. Nothing comes to mind. Thanks.
- Todd (8/5): - The manager arranged for moving my reservation to one day later due to car trouble.
The check in desk person resolved a conflict with Booking.com. Alan went out of his way to help. The AC was noisy, but it was unusually warm for Nanaimo.
- Vincent (8/5): -
- Jennifer (10/5): A hidden gem: perfect location and great hosts. - Spacious, clean and comfortable in a quiet location. The private beach was a beautiful bonus. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful. Nothing to not like.
- Theresa Maria (8/5): - Very nice place. Not to far from Campbell River. There was a kitchen with a stove and oven. Nice view from the garden.
- Charles (8/5): -
- Jack (4/5): - Very little. Had to move units. One was poor. 2nd was upgraded but still needs some work. Missing basics like no slip mat for bathtub. Would not let my wife shower for fear of slipping. Kitchenette Missing some tools. No box of tissues. Needs better easy chairs. Online photos give a false representation of the facility. 125 stairs down to the water. Motel NOT facing the ocean as pictured. Really a very old motel, overcharging, trying to look modern and up to date. Location not as expected. Just generally not what we came to Campbell River for.
- Silvia (8/5): -
- Joan (5/5): - the room was spotlessly clean It said water front, which is was, however the beach was only accessibly down 50 rickety wobbly wooden stairs, very steep and made the beach actually quire inaccessible
- Eric (7/5): A lovely couple that looked after me. - Wonderful couple
Some funky up grades like the electric mirror
Exceptionally clean
- Susan (8/5): Perfect for one night for me - Easy and simple On the road abit noisy
- Roters (7/5): -
- IMMA (5/5): -
- Shivaramakrishna (9/5): -
- Gail (8/5): Dated but comfortable - Location just outside Campbell River, sea views and cool breezes. Comfortable bed. Very clean throughout. Lack of sound proofing and noisy plumbing.
- Helen (10/5): - Cute renovated room. Owner was really friendly and helpful.
- Donald Guy (7/5): Clean, well-supplied accommodation close to the ocean. - Close to the ocean; clean; good wifi; well-supplied with cooking utensils; friendly proprietress. Had trouble getting the TV to work - had to switch the input source to HDMI2; it would be helpful to provide written instructions to this effect for future clients. Lighting in the main room was a single overly bright overhead light; it would be good to also have a standing lamp with softer light for that room.
- Maxine (10/5): -
- Jeff (8/5): I will use the Edgewater again and I particularly liked the room choice being upper and corner unit. - Peaceful and low key, which was suited to my needs for a photography trip and access to locations along the east side of Vancouver Island. The grounds and access were a bonus for me personally.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Alicia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kassara (10/5): A hidden gem ! - The property is newly renovated with a gorgeous bathroom and big rooms. The backyard area overlooking the ocean is unbeatable. We spent every night watching the sunset from either there or the beach. The beach area has rocks that when the tide goes out you can see many sea creatures. The owners are so kind and attentive. Really made us feel welcome. Nothing!
- Deanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deanne (10/5): Exceptional - The motel was clean, quiet, accessible to amenities. Not applicable.
- Kenneth (8/5): Comfortable stay - Friendly hosts. Clean, comfortable and spacious. You can walk down some stairs to a nice beach with great views. There was traffic noise through the evening but it was quiet at night.
- Faizal (10/5): Great spiritual stay with great price - They provided clean sheets, linens, clean washrooms, spectacular vision, and their backyard has a very private beach and ocean looks so beautiful from there when you go down the steps in their backyard. I came for 4 days of fishing but because of the beauty of their property, I was mostly feeling relaxed and did not want to go out much Everything was good
- Athenia (10/5): Would stay here again! - Clean, nice staff
- Istvan (10/5): The best place to stay on the north island, with the fantastic views and private beach. - Wonderful quiet location, ocean views, mountains, nice walk on beach, with seals, otters, eagles. Great ocean breeze and large shady trees. The rabbits in the back yard are very cute. The owners work very hard to grow a lot of nice vegetables. The highway is close, people drive too fast, but very quiet after 8pm. Too many private houses on the cliffs and no space left for hiking trails. Public beaches and trails are a short drive away.
- Skylar (10/5): Beautiful little sea side hideaway - Beautiful spot
Extremely kind staff
Adorable tidy little space fully stocked with all the needed kitchen tools
- Kameliya (8/5): Very good - It is a quiet area. Great view. The service was very good. We had everything that we needed. The price was unbeatable. We would stay again.
- Jacob (8/5): Very good -
- Frank (6/5): Overall clean enough for reasonable value - Ocean view if you walk to edge of the cliff
Courtesy coffee was appreciated but coffee pack too small to make pot full 103 stars down to gravel beach
Flimsy broken chairs
Bathtub needs attention
- Hans (9/5): Superb -
- Shruti (10/5): Exceptional -
- William (7/5): The price was great, and the room comfortable. - Nice location right on the water. Nice trees and gardens. Bed was comfortable. The stairs to my second floor room, and they should add a roof extension to prevent rain from getting on the upper porch along the rooms to protect the outdoor tables.
- Bibi (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, beautiful beach, extremely friendly service
- Grant (6/5): Pleasant -
- Leora (10/5): Wild beach access, great service and nice room - The motel owner was super nice and welcoming. She helped me with doing my laundry - I gave it in the evening, and she offered me to wash it during the night in order to have it ready for me on the morning.
The rooms were comfortable and facilitated, equipped with a kitchen and a sofa.
Location is good, 15 minutes drive from the harbour of Campbell River.
The nicest part about the location is the access to a isloated beach beneath the motel. A privaye long wooden and steep stairway connects the motel to a wild beach strip.
I saw a family of seals swimming there a few times, and it's a great place to relax and watch sunset and ocean wildlife.
- Anita (6/5): Motel stay - The location was convenient. Staff friendly. Kitchen furnished..when we closed the door, the noise from the road become negligible. Furniture is old
- Donna (5/5): It was a clean place to sleep. - Facilities were clean. Outdated.
Traffic noise.
No amenities close by
- Yang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terry (10/5): First time in years to just enjoy the days - Very personable folks. Great room with a view. Great location for exploring around the area get more holidays
- Debbie (10/5): Warm welcome to well equipped apartment with amazing sea views - Warm and genuine welcome from Ying, who was so helpful. The apartment was well equipped and clean. Easy to find, the driveway is off the 19A and the property sits between the 19A ocean view road and the sea. It has a relaxing ambience, feels homely with the owners own home, vegetable and flower garden and pet rabbits. It is perched high above the shoreline and the sea views are far reaching and beautiful. I would love to stay again.
- Kevin (8/5): excellent! - Quaint family run older with very few units. Nice & quiet. Near by road noise, which may have been lessened if I had actually closed my giant sliding glass doir.
- Diane (7/5): Good -
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (7/5): Good - Convenient to downtown , central Beach access was difficult as we are seniors
- Victor (8/5): Very good -
- Don (3/5): Lacked comfort and not worth the money - Kept very clean. Great hot water. Nice views outside rooms. Highly overpriced. Needing professional carpentry and
physical updating
- Sunstrum (6/5): Was bit disappointed at first but really enjoyed my stay there! So peaceful away from the city! And bus stop 100 yards f - Peaceful calm very beautiful view just no a/c units staff very friendly! Rooms are bit smaller than appeared! Don’t stay at the harbour side !!!!! Hotel in town! Old steps to the ocean and there not in great shape! Over 100 steps! Fence is in very poor condition and peice missing and very big cliff could be dangerous! Also asked for damage deposit which isn’t in the contract through app ! Older building but clean!
- Russell (3/5): Poor - The location was great for what we wanted. The building is very 'rustic', and needs some TLC. The owners were nice.
- Belen (7/5): Good -
- Welsh (7/5): Good -
- Steve (8/5): Very good - This is an older motel and the facilities show it. However, our room was a good size with a small kitchen and large TV opposite a chesterfield. The bed was clean and comfy. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay. We would call this good value for the money.
- Mitchell (9/5): Superb - Nice location, picnic spot
- Kevin (10/5): Friendly staff and quaint hotel. Not a lot of rooms so not a lot if people. - Friendly staff and quaint hotel. Not a lot of rooms so not a lot if people.
- Noelle (8/5): Very good -
- Jacob (10/5): Just out of town and nice and quiet - The owners were very nice and made sure to ask me if I needed anything when they saw me it was truly nice to meet them
- Donald (7/5): Good -
- Celina (7/5): Friendly, peaceful, affordable little motel that met our needs. - Friendly proprietor, beautiful view from a nice little oceanside yard, SUPERB water pressure (I guarantee you it's better than home), WiFi was solid (for our phone scrolling needs), nice recent-model stainless steel mini fridge, Danby microwave works, didn't use the stove but it looked to be a newer 3/4-size Danby model, they refreshed our towels after a couple of days and even lined up my little travel toiletry bottles in the corner of the tub (which was a nice touch). Highway noise is no issue (it's the old two-lane Island Highway, so it's more of a "busy road", and the motel is set back from it). There's a good chance that you'll see bald eagles nearby, as we did; they feed on fish and there are nesting trees in the area. Conveniently located a short walk from my parents' place, whom we were visiting.
NEUTRAL STUFF: Booking.com lists "room service" and "laundry" (neither of which I actually expected here), but I think what these actually mean is "housekeeping" (fresh towels) (I don't know if Booking.com makes that distinction, but it would be nice if they did, for clarity's sake). We also saw an adult with two children check in, and the motel's business card says that they have a "kids playground" and are "pet-friendly", whereas Booking.com says that neither children nor pets are allowed (not an issue for us, the info just needs updating). Also, if you're looking for beach access, just know that the stairs to get down to it are steep and uneven-looking and there's a "use at your own risk" type of sign next to them, so if you want to get down to the beach I recommend finding a safer and lower public access point (a little over 1 km in either direction, judging from Google Maps), unless you're fit and have good balance. The unit (#7) was dated in some ways, but they were in the process of renovating two units when we visited and the proprietor told us that they were doing two at a time, breaking for two months in between, with the intention of renovating the rest (I hope to visit in a year and give a higher rating!). The bed was okay for sleep but quite firm and could benefit from a mattress topper. I don't recommend the sofa bed for use as a bed in #7, as there's a noticeable metal spine that can be felt down the middle and the cushions aren't very comfortable (it could do with a replacement).
- Jeana (5/5): Passable - Good location and big space for parking.. Uncomfortable and old couch.l
- Rooksana (10/5): Great Stay! - A gem of a motel on the seafront in Campbell River. The rooms were clean, spacious and had all the amenities for our drive through to the North Island. The owners are lovely and we enjoyed the peace of the setting after a long days drive. Nothing!
- Brandon (9/5): Superb - Ocean beach is amazing
- Orion (10/5): Wonderful place. Would highly recommend. - A lovely place, private and peaceful. The room was wonderfully clean and exceptionally well equipped with everything I needed. Simple, clean, good quality, well furnished, well equipped suite. I couldn't and wouldn't ask for anything more! The owners/staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. It's easy to find and has wonderful private beach access with stunning views across the straight to the mountains on the mainland.
I give this place top marks and would confidently recommend it to everyone. Nothing!
- James (10/5): It was great and the owner was fantastic - The location was great, It was close to town. It was perfect
- Sarah (5/5): Meh.... there are better places available but it's ok for just a night passing through - The location is beautiful but hard to get down to the beach if your limited mobility or have young kids/toddlers. Great view. The owners are very nice and accommodating. Nice garden too. The photos showed a playground which is no longer there, the beds were horribly uncomfortable and there was a very strong smell of maybe mold? Or just old? It wasn't a pleasant smell. But was ok for just one night. We wouldn't stay again.
- Jean (8/5): Very relaxing - Views were great. Small and cozy Couch was too low
- Michelle (9/5): We stayed in this motel in January so it was quiet, peaceful and warm. - The motel was close to Campbell River and we had a great view of the ocean. The bathroom was updated and we had great water pressure in the shower with lots of hot water. The kitchenette was well stocked with dishes, a fridge, microwave, oven/stove and coffee pot. It was a great room! The couch and bed were a bit lumpy but still comfortable and because it’s an older build, it still smells a bit musty but all-in-all it was a fantastic stay! We really enjoyed the room!
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Janet (5/5): Passable - Size of the room was good. TV worked well. Location was quiet.
This property has amazing potential. Some units are currently being updated. Getting to the beach was very difficult.
- Rhonda (9/5): Clean and reasonably comfortable place on the beach. - Great location, lovely view, very clean, appreciate the kitchenette. Friendly and helpful staff. Traffic noise was not bad despite being close to the highway.
- Michaela (10/5): Same as above. Staff were caring and attentive. Safe, comfortable, affordable and a beautiful property. Steal of a price - Staff were caring and attentive. Safe, comfortable, affordable and a beautiful property. Steal of a price too!
- Jane (2/5): Stuck in time :( - Location Needs an overhaul, very dated in every aspect
- Kat (9/5): Superb - Good location, exceptional staff and stunning view of the ocean from the garden
- Mike (10/5): Very nice folks. I enjoyed my stay. -
- Kelsey (7/5): Good -
- Jan (7/5): Good - The location was spectacular! Lovely view from the garden area. Breakfast is not included. The coffee whitener in the room was really old and the mattress was pretty firm for my taste.
- Selena (10/5): Great night away - Super clean, cute, comfortable. Nice to have a little kitchenette. Water view. Extremely friendly owners :)
- Zablotniak (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful view, very friendly owners N/a
- Ved (9/5): Has everything we were looking for - twin beds, kitchen, place to relax for the night right on the sea. Above all good h - Value for money, VERY helpful & considerate staff. Descent location on the road parallel (island highway)to the sea. Relaxed setting, went down (wooden steps) to the sea. Good value for money and not for luxury seekers.
- Christian (7/5): Value for money! - Nice clean room with all you need. Location very good with a stunning view from the garden. Hostess very friendly and service minded
- Anonymous (5/5): Passable - Room size ,couch convenient
- Christoph (8/5): Very good -
- Montgomery (4/5): Disappointing - It was as clean as it can be, I guess. Rates were reasonable. No access to the ocean. In bad need of repair and updating. Curtains covering the patio doors were very dirty.
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Older motel, beatiful view and nice grounds by the ocean, mountains across the Salish Sea. Very affable hosts. Clean, neat. Comforable bed. Good choice if you don't need a luxury hotel.
- Baracco (6/5): My expectations weren’t high and nd it served its purpose - Lovely location, very nice owners, clean In desperate need of renovation. Even in the dead of summer and really hot out it felt damp indoors
- Al (9/5): Lovely, great place for the price! - Beautiful location, amazing beach, off the highway enough that it’s quiet. Needs some renovations.
- Imants (7/5): Good -
- Lou (8/5): Very good - Very friendly owners. When we asked about changing to a ground floor room, she showed us both an upper floor and lower floor and let us choose the one we wanted. Room was equipped with stove, mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker and had all the cooking utensils and dishes and cutlery you would need.
Clean and tidy, with wonderful views of the bay. Nice walk down to the beach, right on the bay (if you're willing to climb up and down the steep stairs).
If you're looking for a Hilton experience, this isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for a modest, clean, quaint and friendly place to stay, this fits the bill, and is reasonably priced for such a high demand area.
- Jacques (5/5): Passable -
- Jennifer (6/5): Quick stop - The view was beautiful. The rooms are dated but clean and lots of room. We did not use the kitchenette. Safe area, the owners were very nice. Very cute. No AC or fan available during a hot day. The room was pretty unbearable and we had to keep the door open for airflow.
- Patrick (9/5): An enjoyable stay with very friendly staff and a beautiful beach. - No breakfast included, had breakfast at the Fuel up Cafe in the Campbell River Airport.
Motel is in a good location with stairs down to the beach. It is an old building but it is kept clean.
- Hagen (4/5): Disappointing -
