- Janet (8/5): Would love to visit again! - View and setting was amazing. The large fireplace in the lounge was lovely as well as the outside shower. So quite with no one near and could not see the any other chalets. No shower, wooden floor had a lump running through the lounge which we fell over quite a few time. Think the light in the kitchen/lounge should be separated - was too bright when on but too dark in the lounge when off.
Surprised firelighters were not part of the wood bundle ordered.

- Palesa (10/5): - I loved everything about Thabela Thabeng. 😍😍😍 Non
- Mbonani (8/5): - The views were amazing Just the road to get to the chalets ...had to be slow and careful
- Paballo Mosikidi (10/5): - The location is amazing but more than anything it's really a place where you're in control of your trip. There are various hikes that are all self guided which means you can hike whenever, however you like as long as you stay on your chosen trail. And the rooms are amazing, they're built into the actual cliff which is stunning.
- Mark (8/5): Quiet and nice place and surroundings to re-charge - Service and assistance at reception was good. Excellent coffee. The information regarding our stay was good. The unit was well prepared and clean. The view was excellent, nice seating on the deck. The matrass is very hard. We were tempted to cut our stay short as we did not know if we would make the next night, but we managed.

- Lategan (9/5): It was a lovely breakaway - Superb location
- Henry (9/5): It was lovely, beautiful and recharging. A wonderful experience! - Breakfast was not served during the week, but the facilities allowed me to make my own breakfast and enjoy it with a breathtaking view! It's something out of human control, but the lightning that affected the power supply was a bit inconvenient, but totally understandable.
- Dawie (10/5): Overall nice private and romantic and awesome - The room was nice romantic and clean
It was private and we enjoy the slience One of the staff was not very helpfull and the wi-fi was tottaly bad almost no signal at all.
They say kitchen is open till 17h00 but they closed at half past 5
- Lu-marie (9/5): Amazing - Absolutely wonderful mountain view, beautiful place!
- Pieter (10/5): -
- Mohale (8/5): I love the place and I will still visit again - It’s my second visit, I enjoyed I think the drive, it will be comfortable with a bigger car, but I still manage.

- Hlapyadi (8/5): A perfect getaway from the city. - This place is absolutely beautiful. The mountain view from our unit was breathtaking. Exactly what we needed. The hiking trails were lovely, though the markings could be improved for better navigation.
Overall, a wonderful stay—highly recommend for nature lovers! The only downside was the walk between the reception area and the picnic spot, which wasn’t very pleasant, especially after a long hike. It would have been helpful if we’d been warned in advance so we could have taken a car instead.
- Kwandokuhle T. (10/5): Fantastic - Peaceful and clean Nothing
- Usimphire (10/5): -
- Matthys (8/5): Peaceful, energised the batteries and reconnected - The views are great. We loved walking the trails on the property. The unit we stayed in was private. We could not hear anyone else from the other units. The sound of the little stream running past the units was comforting. The fireplace in the unit was a life saver to keep the cold weather at bay. The road to the units is rough terrain. It needs some maintenance.
- Mohale (8/5): It was perfect, more that I expected. - Property was clean, value for money It was too cold, you can only rely upon the fireplace, I guess it must be super nice in summer
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional -
- Louis (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dzivhu (10/5): Excellent - Peaceful sleep and quietness, safe for a solo vacation, as I was alone to celebrate my birthday. Nothing is provided to clean the bathtub, and this is a self-catering place without cleaning services. If cleaning is provided, then one has to pay. So, why not provide cleaning supplies, like those used in the kitchen?
- Barry (9/5): Superb -
- Emily (10/5): Chalet was very clean and had beautiful decor. We had breakfast at the restaurant and it was a no mazing. Great service - Everything
- Khotso (10/5): Be Happy amongst the Mountains - Off Grid. Get to know you and partner in ways you can’t in the tech driven society. Views are amazing. Hike too.
- Venter (9/5): Superb - As you arrive friendly staff. Chalet very clean. Loved the scenery of the mountains and water sounds in the background. The hiking was also great experience. Will definitely be back.
- Grant (8/5): Very good -
- Nontokozo (8/5): The place offers amazing views, the accommodations are also far from each other, so there's plenty o - The place offers amazing views, the chalets are also far from each other, so there's plenty of privacy. Lovely place, internal space could do with minor upgrades, some of the furniture is a 'lil' old but not too bad.
Had a great stay overall!
- Kevin (10/5): Peaceful waters - Everything about the place was so beautiful, breathtaking and peaceful. The staff is so friendly and helpful 100/100.
- Vikki (9/5): Loved it and will definitely be back. - Location amazing, the fact that it’s built against a rock is what gives it the wow factor. Very comfortable, secluded and romantic. All you need for a couple getaway. The unit was really cold - we weren’t fully prepared for it. :( even with the fire going all night the chill in the air made it somewhat uncomfortable.
Some additional kitchen cloths and complimentary bubble bath / soap would be such a welcomed add on. Still absolutely loved the place and will come back again!
- Janse (10/5): Exceptional -
- S.arthi (9/5): Serene - Peaceful location with scenic views.
Multiple hiking trails, friendly staff.
Lodges are beautifully built with stunning views of the mountains, hearing river and waterfalls the whole time was soothing. Had to drive carefully through the mountains to get to your lodge if one drives a smaller car, if you are driving a 4×4 or SUV nothing to worry.
Restaurant closes at 3pm, plan accordingly for dinner.
- Mogapi (8/5): Very good - The exclusivity of each cabin and the hikes are breathe taking The road up and down to the cabins was steep and single access I think if it were dual lanes
- Sithole (9/5): But all in all, I enjoyed my stay. The people there were very helpful and friendly. - It’s calm, cozy, and feels safe, like the perfect little getaway from real life. Gravel road , I didn’t know you have to drive for almost 45 minutes on it to reach the accommodation. My advice: don’t use a low or small car when you visit
- Motsamai (1/5): Worst experience. - Nothing at all!!!! Worst experience ever. First they will lur you in with whatsapp messages asking how far you are? When I got to the lodge they actually booked me a challet I didn't book. I booked and made full payment in January 2025 for couples 2slweeper challet. Only to get to Thabela Thabeng to find them having booked me a 6sleeper challet. When i asked the lady at reception Rina or whoever why they booked me in a 6 sleeper not a 2 sleeper that I had initially booked. She says to me I should have called. How? I went and viewed the challet...worst disappointment 😞 the challet looked old and had an awful smell NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURES ON the internet and social media 👎🏽 I went back to reception to try and reason with the lady., she told me there was nothing she could do. I couldn't stay in a place like that never. I then had to cancel my booking. She showed no sense of remorse or care and instantly cancelled my booking without any refund. I had to look for a better place to stay at an extra cost around the area, as it was dark and late. not fair at all. Thabela Thabeng has time to text and ask how far you are yet they do not have the same energy to call and confirm challets. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I was scamed!!!!!! I drove around and Paradise Kloof Guest house managed to accommodate us for the night. Best experience, best hospitality. Thabela thabeng must learn from paradise kloof.
- Varsha (10/5): Exceptional - A peaceful and wonderful retreat away from the city’s noise.
- Mbalenhle (5/5): Overall a very disappointing experience, that was marred by shoddy service and an unbothered host. - The location was scenic. This is by far my worst travel experience in the past two years. The place itself is very beautiful and scenic however, the service was sub-par, particularly by the lady at reception.
I had booked a 3 bedroom unit, and upon arrival found that 2 bedrooms were in one section and the other one bedroom was somewhere else. Only one bedroom was open in the 2 bedroom section, and the other in the 1 bedroom section. How can people who came together be sleeping in different houses?
When I queried this, I was told that that is what housekeeping decided on. I asked for the second beroom in the two bedroom house to be opened and received much resistance. Only on my insistance, the
second bedroom in the two bedroom house was opened.
There were two single beds in each of the rooms, and I asked that they be put together and I was told that could not be done. This is a standard procedure at most hotels, lodges and resorts and I have had it done immediately, with no issues, but not here. I ended up putting the beds together myself, with no help.
To compound issues, there is absolutely no network in this place, as it is deep in the mountains. The descriptor on bookings.com says there is wifi in common areas, however does not tell you that there is zero network connectivity in the chalets. I brought my own wifi and even that could not work, and I could not get calls nor texts, unless I would drive down to reception.
I felt very unsafe. There are emergency contact numbers all over the chalet, but how do you call them with no reception?
We only had breakfast at the establishment, as there was only one option. Not much variety.
- Hayley (10/5): Romantic Getaway - If you are looking for a secluded romantic getaway, look no further. This place was absolutely lovely. We wished we had stayed longer. It was clean and modern. It was well thought out, too. We were impressed. We loved every moment. On the mountain in front of us in the late afternoon, we watched the Rock Dassies jump and play. It was beautiful! What would take it to the next level would be to personalise some things for the guests. Otherwise, it was absolutely lovely. There is little to no signal. Just keep that in mind when booking.
- Peter (9/5): Beautiful and relaxing - Great location with lovely staff.
Restaurant at reception was nice.
Views from the chalet were great and the chalet itself was well furnished and spacious. Listing didn't make it clear that there was no wi-fi or signal at the chalet itself.
- Sekokotoane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ithuteng (8/5): Very good -
- Leatitia (8/5): The host was friendly and helpful. The venue catered for our family and the food was amazing and plenty. - Enough units for our family The road to the units was a bit tricky
- Alain (7/5): Good - Nice surrounding for hiking, attractive houses the pictures look a bit better than the actual rooms (is all a bit older), but overall still very good and very special architecture/houses - we enjoyed it!
- Thato (5/5): Passable - The furniture and room are dilapidated and old no value for money Furniture room. Set up -1 star
- Jessie (9/5): It was a magical and restful time, surrounded by nature. - The location is stunning and the chalets are beautifully decorated and very clean and comfy. We booked a two bedroom chalet but the second bedroom was locked, even though we are a couple I don't feel you can assume that it's not friends etc and they need both bedrooms. Also it would be nice to be able to use the second room for luggage as the rooms are small so this would have made it less cramped.
Additional fans are needed, it is very hot in the units and small details such as a coffee plunger with a small container of good coffee, hairdryer in the unit and more comfy chairs for the deck would go a long way.
- Mimi (5/5): Not what I expected or not what they advertised on their pagebut the location is beautiful - Beautiful location No network connection and the place is not neat clean
- Matshepo (10/5): Exceptional - Chalet was very clean and had beautiful decor. We had breakfast at the restaurant and it was amazing. Great service from all the staff. The receptionist was exceptional, very friendly and accommodating. N/A
- Disebo (9/5): Superb - The house is s beautiful house, well maintained and clean. They need to get someone to prepare breakfast at the house when they have guests. The buying of breakfast did not work.
- Motloung (9/5): Superb -
- Ntapo (7/5): Overall we had an excellent and joyous experience away from the busy city life. - The views were spectacular and tranquility within the Environment. One experienced nature at it's best. The apartment was clean and well equipped. Information pertaining the activities within the area was not provided at reception during our stay.
- Xihluke (5/5): Passable - The place didn’t smell fresh. It had an old stuffy smell
- Caroline (8/5): Very good - The location The pool is not centralized
- Jonathan (5/5): Don’t have any comment because we have to leave early - Excellent view No aircon and you always have to keep everything close
- Queen-e (6/5): Pleasant - I liked the view The room was expecting was the bath tub one shown on internet with the bath by the window with the view and the road to my chalet was 1 way felt unsafe we couldn't drive at night for dinner cz we were scared of the road. Lastly they need new towels cz the towels are old and hard and furniture looked old and dusty.
- Lucwaba (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deane (9/5): Superb -
- Zibusiso (7/5): Good -
- Thobile (10/5): Exceptional - Best for retreat and leisure. Away from the noise and ideal for connecting with God No/ proper aluminiun car ports
- Randzo (8/5): Awesome can go back there anytime 😊 - The location exceeded our expectations, the place is serene, awesome place to get peace and quiet.
Only issue I had was the road leading to the place, wish they could tar the road for small car users. Only issue I had was the road leading to the place, wish they could tar the road for small car users
- Tsebo (9/5): Superb - The hiking trails. And the place cleanliness It was days after the rain, so no swimming
- Teboho (10/5): Exceptional -
- Irene (9/5): Will recommend a place to friends and family - I liked the quiteness and it was a peace of mind Everything was on point except that we had to move to the other house when we were going to sleep instead of having everything around and the rats in the ceiling it was a bit disturbing when we were sleeping 😔
- Reshoketsoe (8/5): Great secluded place - Would have loved the Chalet by the mountains but it's an overall beautiful place. Enjoy the hike The gravel road was a nightmare
- Rovana (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the view from our patio in the day and the galaxy of stars in the evening. The corner bath with big windows to see the stars at night was very romantic and an amazing experience. It was a nice and quiet location with no other chalets in sight. The hikes were awesome. The food at the restaurant was delicious and very well priced - well done to the chef.
- Dayaan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Priscilla (1/5): False advertising - I enjoyed the mountain views. The property Falsely advertised its accommodation. It only advertised the beautiful chalets on the mountain and we booked cause we expected to get a chalet on the mountain but instead we got an ugly looking chalet that was not on the mountain, that is next to the reception area. The chalet we got was never advertised, only the swimming pool next to it.
- An (6/5): Stunning Scenery, but Accommodation Could Be Improved - The receptionist was very welcoming, which made for a pleasant start. I really enjoyed the property; it offers incredible hiking trails and the views from the chalets are absolutely stunning. The interior of the chalets feels somewhat cold, as it's mostly tiled. Everything was clean, though there was a noticeable scent of a cheap air freshener. The fireplace adds a cozy atmosphere on cold evenings, but once it cools down, a strong wood smell lingers. Unfortunately, due to the baboons in the area, you can’t leave windows open to air out the room while you're away, which is a bit inconvenient. Given the price we paid, I expected a higher level of luxury.
- Lerato (9/5): Double date at Thabela Thabeng - The views and the tranquility were breathtaking...room clean with everything that we needed It's just a recommendation that they can provide wood for the fire place and include it on the accomodation .
- Monique (10/5): It was just for one night, wish we could stay longer. The room, views and hiking were amazing! - The views and hiking trails are very nice!
- Bennett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lufuno (7/5): Good -
- Zale (8/5): Nice and peacful, great service, nice a clean with a great view! - We self-catered so we didn't try the restaurant. The Bed was terribly hard.
- Mxolisi (10/5): Exceptional - Tranquility Nothing
- Ntombuzanele (10/5): I wish I had booked for a longer stay, but I'll definitely be coming back soon - Everything was just breath taking Absolutely nothing
- Dieksy (9/5): Superb -
- Moorcroft (10/5): Exceptional - The quietness
- Hlayie (8/5): Very good - The place was beautiful, breakfast was very delicious and Jack was nice and friendly There was no bar soap in our room
- Nelly (5/5): Passable - The bathroom view
- Makgahlela (10/5): It was beautiful, beautiful memories were made - Didn't have breakfast in the venue a carport at the Rock haven
- Marlene (8/5): Great stay, one little glitch - The views are amazing! The decor ia fresh and modern, the place it really clean. We arrived later the night after a meeting and the water was BROWN, so much so, that we did not wat to bath in it. The 'drinking water' tap is outside the house and we did not want to go out there.
- Thuly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stuart (9/5): Superb -
- Charl (9/5): Superb - The facilities were as advertised and with no connectivity except at the top of the mountain it was a true disconnect getaway. Good reminder to being along a lot of fire wood or purchase at reception when visiting in winter time as the time next to the fireplace will be truly relaxing. Having to go back home.
- Abbie (10/5): Exceptional -
