Guest Reviews
- Deepak (4/5): - The outside look and interior,, and breakfast I was not satisfied with my stay at this hotel. The welcome was not warm or professional, which gave a poor first impression. During my stay, there were multiple power interruptions which caused a lot of inconvenience. The room also had a mosquito problem, making it difficult to get a peaceful night’s sleep. Considering these issues, I feel the price charged is quite high for the level of service and facilities provided.
- Moulesh (10/5): -
- Rajendran (8/5): GOOD - Breakfast is good taste of chettinad style Serving vessels shortage
- Reshma (9/5): Superb - Very tasty food helping staff clean rooms serene atmosphere. Highly recommended Can have swiping facilities for payment and can provide toiletries
- Anonymous (4/5): Disappointing -
- Parvathi (10/5): A quite, homely retreat in Chettinad - We had a great time at Chettinad manor. Wonderful stay with homely breakfast —fluffy idlis, delicious sambar, paniyarams and coffee.
The manager, Nagarajan, went above and beyond—he put together a personalised itinerary and even wrote it down on a paper for us.
Additonally, compared to other heritage properties around Chettinad, this is a great budget option. Nothing
- Sarah (9/5): I had a wonderful stay at Chettinad Manor and recommend it to other visitors. - It was the perfect location for exploring the amazing Chettinad Mansions in the area…….and after a long day returning to the leafy streets around the Manor was a great pleasure……..and entering the main halls of the hotel a delight. The payment section on booking.com asserts that the hotel accepts Visa card and other Credit Cards……..but in fact the hotel does not take these cards, so foreigners without indian bank accounts have to pay cash.
- Sawant (10/5): Exceptional - It’s very clean and tidy.. the property is beautiful. The staff are friendly.. they serve amazing breakfast and lunch/dinner No comments
- Kavya (9/5): Exceptional Hospitality - My recent stay at Chettinad Manor was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was truly outstanding. I must give special mention to Mr. Muru and Mr. Nagarajan, who went above and beyond to ensure our trip was memorable. Their assistance in helping us explore all the important local sights was invaluable, and they were always ready with helpful tips and recommendations.
The rooms at Chettinad Manor were incredibly comfortable, providing a relaxing haven after a day of exploring. The hotel itself boasts a beautiful central courtyard, a perfect spot to unwind and soak in the tranquil atmosphere. While the food was decent and homely, it was the overall experience that truly shone.
What sets Chettinad Manor apart is their dedication to guest experience. They assisted us with everything, from the initial booking process to arranging all our travel for sightseeing. This level of service made our trip seamless and stress-free. The friendly and helpful nature of the local people further enhanced our experience.
During our stay, we had the opportunity to visit some truly amazing heritage properties, a magnificent palace, and even witnessed the fascinating process of tile making. The region itself offers a unique and offbeat travel experience, far from the crowds of more commercialized destinations. It's a fantastic place to enjoy quality time with family and immerse yourselves in the local culture.
Overall, our stay at Chettinad Manor was an amazing experience. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a genuine and memorable travel experience in this culturally rich region. It's a perfect blend of comfort, hospitality, and authentic local charm. Nothing Specific
- Nathalie (10/5): Exceptional - A place with charm. Beautiful hall and ceilings.
Preserved and quiet.
Muru has been a great help for taxi, he also provided a list of what to do and autos.
He is amazingly service and customer oriented and made that day memorable.
Thank you No hot water which would have been nice after a night in a bus.
- Richard (8/5): Good value, authentic Chettinad mansion experience - Nagarajan the manager always helpful, friendly and efficient. He arranged wonderful rickshaw drives for two days to explore all the key sites in the locality. If you want an authentic stay in a Chettinad mansion which hasn’t been over westernised or made over luxurious in its restoration , this is the place. The quiet village has many unrestored and deserted mansions to look at Better written instruction in each bedroom on how to use facilities (tv, air conditioning, hot water etc) would have saved us keep asking Nagarajan!
- Selvaganesan (4/5): Disappointed - Food was very good.
But the stay not worth the money. Paints were coming.
Below average toilet facilities. Those facilities are worth only for around Rs 1500/- a night.
- S (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bas (8/5): Great place when visiting Chettinad - Great experience to stay in a Chettinad house. Rooms are simple, but complete. Nothing
- Adith (1/5): Worst stay - Food, Room, Staff behaviour, AC, Location, Premises, Dining area, Roof, lobby
- Saravanan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Gil (7/5): Good -
- Priyan (7/5): Good -
- Naveen (5/5): Great Design, But Room for Improvement as Hotel Develops - The hotel's exterior and overall design were impressive, but I found the space and facilities lacking in some areas. The parking situation could be improved, as well as the restroom facilities, which were too narrow and cramped. Enhancing these aspects would greatly improve the guest experience. The complimentary breakfast was good and added a nice touch to my stay. I also understand that the hotel is still in development, and I hope these areas will be addressed as they continue to improve.
- Jg (2/5): Hopeless stay not money’s worth - Nothing we liked Place was shabby, food was useless (only breakfast) restroom was pathetic
- Manisha (6/5): Pleasant - Clean stay While the staff were kind and helpful, the amenities could be better. It's a basic stay at a good looking manor.
- Margo (8/5): Very good - My husband was quite unwell during our stay. The staff went above and beyond to help us, including organising for a doctor to visit. We were particularly grateful for the kind support of the manager Mr Nagarajan. Nothing
- Manoj (10/5): Best place to stay around Karaikudi - Excellent place to stay. Luxury stays in a remote village. It is very close to the highway, so there is no need to travel far to find the location. Veg and Non-Veg are prepared in authentic Chettinad style as per our request. So, we get freshly prepared food which is also safe for kids. As it is so difficult to find even a good hotel there for adults. Strongly suggest ordering food for lunch and breakfast here There is no TV.
- Pallavi (9/5): Superb - Cleanliness and breakfast
- T (9/5): Superb -
- Annie (8/5): Peaceful stay in a quiet heritage village! - The Chettinad manor is located in a small village next to the main heritage village of Kanadukathan. The location is extremely peaceful and walking/cycling around the village is a joy! This village also has a few Chettiar mansions, temple ponds and fields. The Chettinad manor itself was comfortable and clean with a nice breakfast. The room has all the amenities for a short stay and is great value for money. They also have two cycles which they give free of cost and that is a great way to explore the surrounding areas! Finally, Mr. Nagaraj is a nice manager of the property who is very helpful and friendly. Nothing at all
- Caitlin (8/5): Great place but location isn’t the most ideal - Lovely staff, great food, and comfortable beds. The location is a bit awkward for getting around Chettinadu. A rickshaw or taxi is required to see anything.
- Sreekumar (9/5): Superb -
- Sanjana (6/5): Pleasant -
- Arul (8/5): value for money. simple food but tastes like home food - breakfast taste like home food no exhaust fan in bathrooms
- Alexander (9/5): Highly recommend the place for families and Mr Murugappan was and excellent host. - The property is a renovated Chettiar mansion which is more than 120 years old. Though the property is fully renovated to modern specifications and amenities, it still holds the rustic beauty and charm of an old Chettiar mansion. The owner Mr Murugappan was very keen on making our stay pleasurable and was very helpful in giving insights on local attractions and eateries. Mr Murugappan and his staff provided clean rooms, a great breakfast and was very flexible with our requests and pricing. Overall we would highly recommend the place.
- Pradeep (7/5): Good -
- Rajesh (1/5): Bad - Just the building lobby, which is the picture which is used to sell the property. Nothing esle. No proper staffing. No service. Only one person who behaves rudely.
- Prasad (3/5): Stay was good, Hot water was available. It's difficult if you need to find a hotel nearby for food. - For ones who'd like to experience the chettinad stay, it's a good one. The Manager, Nagaraj i guess was his name. Terrible hospitality. Asking us to pay the complete amount for our stay during Checkin. Very bad Welcome. Gave us an extra room without a TV and a very tiny bathroom for Rs.3500. Gosh! Terrible way he responds to our questions. The property deserves a better Manager.
- Pratik (10/5): Well maintained palace - Stay was truly wonderful and within budget. This is a heritage house, we had great experience. Well maintained palace. Mr.Nagarajan is a wonderful host ,he helped us out with our itinerary. And the breakfast was simple yet yummy. Must recommend it 👌
- Natarajan (7/5): Good -
- B (9/5): Superb - Mr Nagaraj Manager of the property was very courteous and humble in all his actions.
- Paul (9/5): Great homely stay in Chettinad. - Loved staying in this peacefully located and heart warming traditional Chettinad manor for almost a week. Nagaraj and the other staff makes you feel at home right away. And the breakfast is delicious comforting tamil food. -
- V (7/5): Good -
- Dhananjaya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Subbiah (7/5): Good -
- Ruckmani (8/5): Very good - Comfortable stay , staff was very polite and friendly, food was good
- Srikanth (8/5): Good place but needs a restaurant and more staff. - The place is a 99yrs old chettinadu style mansion converted to a hotel.
With that comes the old world charm older era fittings decor and aesthetics. The manager went out of his way to attend to me as I was riding solo on a motorcycle across tamilnadu
Room is comfortable and big. bathroom is big enough. Lot of common area space to hang out and do photoshoot 😜 They don't have room service and the nearest hotel is kilometers away. So food is an issue and mind you it is not in the famous karaikudi town but about 10kms away from it.
- Anandakumar (2/5): Very poor -
- Sanjay (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice 🙂🙂🙂🙂
- Akash (10/5): A true delight 😊 - Chettinad Manor was a delight to stay at. True to the images. Beautiful place kept clean always. The staff were friendly. Nagarajan was kind helpful and gave prompt solutions to any issues we had. Complementary breakfast was wholesome yummy authentic and the Kavani Arasi sweet was delicious. There were also two cute cats at the property. :) <3
- Samidhurai (3/5): Not good - No Services. Very poor arrangement. Even coffee tea is not available.. Restaurant facilities is a must.
- Ramkumar (7/5): Good - Nice new rooms, spacious in size. It was neat and clean, staff very helpful. Rooms had no amenities, no cupboards, not even a shelf to keep the bags. No mirrors in the bathrooms, bathroom towel racks too high so small kids and old people might find it difficult. Showers not working. Being a new property these could be teething issues. They need to make these small changes.
- Dipti (9/5): Superb -
- Necin (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place and courteous staff Nothing
- Sharvintheraan (10/5): Exceptional - The interior design of the building
- Drrbm99 (6/5): Pleasant -
- Necin (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely courteous staff ...special mention to Nagarajan was very helpful. He helped us with our itinerary. Have seen very rare hosts with such a hospitality sense. The place was worth the money and would highly recommend
- Ashokan (7/5): Good -
- Kalyani (4/5): Pleasant stay - ok for a couple of days - Old villa and nice location. Owner or manager could provide some history of the property on arrival/ check in Food was of good quality.
Dinner could be served in different containers to hold the curries so we know what we are eating and the presentation looks appetising. Currently all mixed in one plate and can be unapperizing. Staff need to be discreet when serving the meals and not stand close to guests whilst they are eating.
Room needs thicker blankets and also a kettle in each room with team coffee in the room.
- Logeshwari (8/5): Beautiful stay - Very beautiful property with Chettinad concept. Breakfast is free and felt like a home cooked food. Staffs were so friendly and helpful. Bathroom lighting was dull and need extra cleaning
- Reshma (10/5): We stayed for one night.. the stay was so pleasant.. people were so kind and good.. And the complimentary breakfast gave - Traditional and authentic chettinad type home! Very pleasant to stay Toilet pipes were broken..
- Sri (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful palace and very clean. Staffs all very caring and humble. The breakfast was superb. The manager Mr Nagarajan very friendly and helpful. Nice stay and value for money. I ve checkin late night, there is a thin blanket. Couldn't change
- Pradeep (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (7/5): Good -
- Apostoli (9/5): Superb - I liked the Manor in particular.
Staff was very kind, Mr. Nagarajan helped us to make the most of our short stay. It was a little far from everything.
- Sarojah (9/5): Superb -
- Daniela (2/5): Very poor - Hotel Building attractive Large group of noisy students made sleeping very challenging. Room backed onto breakfast room.
Not good value for money.
Manager said dinner was included (worst dinner we had in India) then asked for payment at check out.
- Ruchi (8/5): Excellent - Very comfortable stay and the staff are exceptional
- Anna (7/5): Beautiful house, wasted potential - It is a beautiful house and could be a true gem if properly arranged and managed.
Breakfast was very good and sufficient.
The area is pretty and calm.
The girl working at the guesthouse is very nice. Bathrooms are very bad - no space to put anything, water from the shower falling everywhere even on the toilet since there is no division between the two, the washing basin is too small to wash and the tap in the corner makes it difficult even to wash a hand. Besides, the bathroom isn’t very clean, the floor and walls are of some plastic-like material (?) and the bed sheets had stains (I’m not sure if changed after every guest).
Then on the first floor there was a hole in the floor, about 2 by 2 meters, one floor deep and completely unmarked. What would they do if someone fell in and died, or broke legs? I can’t imagine. They are still renovating and it might have been a shaft for a lift. But yes, you walk and there is a one-floor-deep drop without any marking or closure.
Then one day at 5.30 am a group of 60 school children checked in. You can imagine the noise.
This shows no consideration for the other guests.
Payment is cash only and the receipt is a piece of paper from a notebook. If you need to declare the costs, forget it.
- Lucy (7/5): Still a work in progress ... - It's a nice location on the edge of a quiet village with a lovely temple pond very near which is nice to watch the sunset. Plenty of mansions in the village too.
The rooms are clean and comfortable with hot water shower.
Food is tasty but limited menu and timings - don't expect a restaurant.
It's easy to walk to the main road and catch buses to different places if you don't have a car. It's still a work in progress so some areas not finished.
Not quite as luxury as they like to make out.
Other eating options are very limited.
- Alastair (7/5): Friendly staff, good food and interesting area. - Interesting location. Friendly staff. Excellent food. No space inside or outside to sit and relax.
- Marzenna (7/5): Beautiful building with big potential. Since it is new, I hope the staff will improve service. - Nice breakfast, beautiful building, and very good localization. The place has great potential, but could be a bit better managed and the staff more professional. Could be cleaner. The food was nice and fresh.
- Surendra (7/5): Good - food
- Narayan (9/5): Superb -
- Narayan (9/5): A very quaint and friendly place to stay with exceptional staff and delicious meals - very pleasant and helpful staff and owner. excellent location -- it is a nice village full of large bungalows and at least 3 large ponds. The traditional breakfast is delicious with hardly any repetition across our two days. Very enjoyable. Our dinner was also perfect. Not exactly a complaint but merely to point out that this is like a riad or haveli. So there is no dining or food facilities at odd hours (between 10pm and 6am). The bath room should have more pegs/rods to hang clothes. They should also check the plumbing for leaks.
- Kavitha (10/5): Beautiful building, comfortable stay - This is a beautiful chettinad style property near to the highway. The staff was courteous and helpful, the complimentary breakfast was tasty and the stay was very comfortable. They provided basic toiletries and towels, wifi was good and the property is in a quite neighbourhood. You can park adjacent to the building too.

- Neelakantan (5/5): Passable -
- Brijith (7/5): Good -
- Ranjith (9/5): Calm and peaceful - Awesome food and beautiful surroundings. Many heritage homes close by. Short drive to many tourist destinations . The rooms need cupboards, and tables
- Shwetha (10/5): Exceptional - The staff are very courteous and helpful. The place is beautiful. The rooms are spacious.
- Helen (9/5): Quiet heritage stay - Visually stunning exterior and interior halls. Set in a quiet location near field and temple with pond. The room was spacious and the air conditioning and hot water worked. We were able to have breakfast in room. Evening meals were available at an extra charge. Food was chettinad cuisine and was delicious and plentiful.
The hotel is still being developed but there was no building noise when we stayed. Once done the roof terrace will be lovely to see sunrise and sunsets.
The manager, Mr Nagavajar Lakshi, went out if his way to assist. He spoke English and helped arrange a tuk tuk driver for 2 days and a taxi to Madurai.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel is in a quiet village which is best explored in foot. Other sightseeing sites are short drives away. Would be good to have a drinks menu to be able to buy drinks.

- Thuraiappah (6/5): Overall it is nice quiet place to spend a week end. - Breakfast was good. They made all what we asked for. Overall the food was good. The accommodation was average, but you can't expect much more in a place like that, however the staff was very helpful.
They are in the process of renovating the building, hope it will be much better when the renovation is complete.
