Guest Reviews
- Fiona (10/5): A wonderful cosy cottage - The cottage was charming and the location to local walks was perfect. The host was so warm and friendly and accommodated everything we needed for our weekend.
- Alison (10/5): Wonderful break - Claudia and pepper were wonderful hosts. The cottage is welcoming and as a home from home feeling.
The breakfast was delicious and this is one of the best breaks away that we've had. Would definitely return in the future. N/A
- Keith (8/5): Pleasant and comfortable. - Breakfasts were wholesome and beautifully cooked.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable beds and a wonderful breakfast served by our lovely hostess. A great stay The narrow country roads can be a little hair-raising when it's dark but not enough to put us off going back to Orchard Cottage.
- Marcel (10/5): A home away from home with the most amazing host - The highlight of our stay was definitely our host, Claudia. She is a truly wonderful woman who turns a stay into a drepy personal experience – we genuinely felt like we were visiting family. Every morning we woke up to the amazing smell of breakfast, as Claudia prepared generous portions of food made with love. As she says herself, the kitchen is her playground, and you can tell – she truly works magic with every meal.
Each morning, we had long conversations with her. Claudia shared stories about her family, insights about the country, and gave us great tips on what to see and do in the area. One day, she even took the time to personally show us a hidden path into the nearby forest – such a special moment.
The accommodation itself was also exceptional. Our room was incredibly cozy and had everything we needed – 100% comfort. We had access to a lovely front garden where we could sit and listen to the birds flying around like crazy. From our window, we had a view of a small park with ducks, and from the bathroom we could see the garden, full of birdsong and beautiful sunlight.
In the evenings, we could relax in the bathtub and just enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. We also had some lovely moments with her dog Pepper, who made us feel at home and helped fill the void of missing our own dog back home.
Thanks to Claudia, we even had the chance to join the local community for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day – an unforgettable experience. Honestly – nothing. Maybe just the fact that we only had one week to enjoy our holiday at Claudia’s place!
- Christine (8/5): We really enjoyed our stay and the host couldn't have been more friendly. - The breakfast was excellent and couldn't be improved. The cottage was warm, comfortable and cosy. Lovely location. Friendly, helpful host. En suite bathroom in the process of being completed so no door! Lack of privacy. More hanging space in bedroom would be desirable.
- Fred (10/5): Claudia is an exceptional host, breakfast was fantastic as was our whole experience - Fantastic location either way a lovely pub just 4 doors down
- Evanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (10/5): Relaxing and beautiful situation.wonderful host and spuneithin walking distance what more could we ask for - Claudia is the most excellent host and she generously shares her beautiful home with her guests, making them feel welcome and comfortable. The house was warm, clean and located in the beautiful village of Grewelthorpe, close to the Cathedral city of Ripon. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- Judith (10/5): Weekend break. - Claudia is a fantastic hostess. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Nothing was a bother. Claudia made us a packed breakfast so we could attend an early event the next day. Above and beyond and such a charming personality. Lovely roll top bath. The dog was made to feel very welcome too. Highly recommend staying here. Pub opened the night before we arrived and was a good place to eat. Fabulous stay. Nothing

- Jhs (10/5): Great Cottage Experience and Lovely Host. - if you want a true country village cottage experience this is it. you have a lovely room that's typical cottage and a proper cottage experience with the lovely host Claudia. you will be treated as if you actually lived in the cottage with the host. nothing is too much trouble and you are made at home. Claudia is a lovely lady and she is so kind and just talking to her is a treat. nothing.
- Adrienne (10/5): Beautiful, homely cottage - Claudia is charming, and her cottage is a delightful and characterful home. I felt very welcomed, like a member of the family! Pepper, the little dog, is so cute.
Guest accommodation is at the front of the house. The private bathroom was lovely with a deep bath and plenty of hot water. The bed was cosy. Claudia serves a generous breakfast in her large homely kitchen. I'm currently reproducing her berry and plum compote.
The area is stunningly beautiful and people are friendly. The village has a little duck pond and there is good street parking. Nearby Masham has great beer and food options.
A bonus was sunny days and clear nights. The air is so clear, the moon looked amazing, as did the Northern Lights.
I would love to return. Nothing

- Emily (10/5): A perfect home stay - A perfect home stay. From arriving at the property, we were warmly greeted by our host, who really went above and beyond in making us feel so welcome. At no point was anything too much trouble. We had the privacy of our own room and bathroom, which was very well catered for with lots of lovely personal touches. Everything was very clean and comfortable too. The breakfast was plentiful with so much choice, and what really stood out for us was how engaging, chatty, and friendly our host was. We were kindly invited into her home and made to feel a part of the family. We will definitely visit again. Thankyou for a wonderful weekend. Emily and Amy. I have no negative comments.

- Darren (8/5): Great location, great host - Excellent full English Breakfast and toast , cereals, croissants options too. The only negative was the village pub being closed.
- Anonymous (1/5): terrible feel let down by the write up of the stay I definitely would not have gone - looks pretty on the outside we couldn’t stay very dated and worn things needs a proper revamp bath worn and scratched also the owner lives at the property and that was not stated when booking the property your literally sharing a small space with someone you do not no to have privacy I would have felt like I was in prison in a bedroom having to come out of the bedroom to the bathroom on the landing and the owners bedroom opposite coming down into her space to go out I was there 5 minutes think booking . com need to put a different star on the property and state that it is a shared house

- Iain (9/5): Lovely stay with a lovely host. - Claudia the host was lovely, so welcoming and friendly going way beyond expectations when she offered us dinner on our first night.
The location was excellent for or needs, close enough to Ripon, but equally out in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. The full English breakfast each day was superb, more than we expected but locally sourced ingredients were delicious. Parking can be a little bit of an issue, as the village is small and most parking is on road.
A shower instead of a bath, but there were reasons given why it wasn't available during our stay.
