Guest Reviews
- Zachary (10/5): Fantastic. - Roberto is just the best. Vegan breakfast. Our favorite stay,
- Carmen (9/5): Great place to stay before the W-trek - - Great location being both a short walking distance to the town centre and bus station
- Has a vegetarian breakfast option for eating in (and a packed version too if leaving early in the morning)
- Carmen (9/5): Superb -
- Emma (7/5): Good - I had a twin room in this hostel and it was what I expected. The beds were comfortable and I slept well. Sadly I had to leave very early for a bus so only had a bit of breakfast but what I had was good: traditional food, cooked fresh. The added bonus of this place is the friendly host and his cute little kitties.
For a one night stay, this place was OK for me. The bathroom facilities could do with improving but I know this is something the owner is working on.
- Eirini (9/5): Superb -
- Eirini (9/5): Superb - Location in excellent next to the bus stop, owner friendly and accommodating. Nice hand made breakfast provided !
- Sasha (7/5): Cats and a friendly host! - The host was very welcoming, friendly, and even made breakfast every day. The place also has cats (and at the time of our stay was actually overrun by kittens,) which we loved! The accommodation is definitely a little older, and has a shared bathroom. People who are very attached to their privacy or have high standards for hygiene (or cat allergies) might have issues here.
- Sarah (9/5): Super unique place with the best host - Roberto is a real sweetheart. I arrived before check in exhausted from my 24 hours of travel so he made me a coffee and finished my room so I could check in. He also helped me with some travel booking.
I love that Roberto is making everything himself. The rooms and bathroom are super cute and comfortable. The breakfast is tasty. Nothing
- Anuj (10/5): Recommended for anyone on a budget. - Roberto is one of the best hosts I have met and he is a great cook too. The view from hostel’s backyard is mesmerizing. I would stay here again.
- Sol (5/5): Passable - The cats were lovely and breakfast was good. Still under construction guest house.
Room was freezing. Broken heater.the owner sent me to a friend's guesthouse because my room was already booked. The lady at this place waa rude and awful. Another freezing room too. Dont take the reccomendation! Its just 2 min away from his place.
- Violetta (9/5): Nice option before/after Torres del Paine - It looked a little bit weird for the first time, but was quite cosy after we get used to it. :D Heating, hot water, cats are available. The host is a big character + he made sandwiches when we left early. The hostel has basically everything what you need. Walking distance from the centre and the bus station.
- Hui (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zachary (10/5): We loved staying with Roberto and would definitely stay again. - Location is very close to the bus station and reasonably close to town (restaurants and groceries). The accommodations are basic but clean and comfortable. The shared kitchen was suitable for all our needs.
I cannot say enough nice things about the Host; Roberto was very friendly and accommodating, he made us feel right at home, allowed us to use the washer and cooked us a delicious vegan breakfast every day! We miss you Roberto! There are 2 house kitties that are very cute and friendly. Hot water takes a long time to heat up but once you get it going it stays hot as long as you need.
- Gustav (9/5): Superb - Relaxed place with a fun and quirky design. Heating in the room. Warm shower. Nice backyard. Friendly service :) A little cold inside since the door to the yard is always open. The host cooked his own style of breakfast but could be easier to just offer some bread or something :)
- Gustav (9/5): Superb -
- Kristin (10/5): Private rooms, fabulous views, close to everything!!!! - Excellent location, close to both the bus station and the town centre. Fabulous views from the garden of the property. Nice and spacious rooms. Cooked breakfast. Host super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
- Jennifer (8/5): Roberto’s place is good value for money, nicely decorated and the breakfast is great. - The double room facing the street is spacious and tastefully decorated. The bed was good and the breakfast that Roberto makes each morning very tasty. The room had a heater which worked great. At checkin Roberto told us that he had a problem with overbooking our room and asked us whether we could help him out and stay the second night in a room half the size and without a window. When we declined he made us feel uncomfortable and initially we were unsure whether we would have a bed the next day.
The kitchen and sitting area is very cold as it’s not heated.
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional - I loved everything. Stayed only one night. Super close to the bus stop. Bed was very comfy and room was spacious. Breakfast was so good and the little kittens were everything! Roberto is also super nice and great to talk to. Great place it's becoming and will continue to become.
- Ana (10/5): Roberto was such a kind and generous host! Plus, kittens! - Our experience at Upcycling Hostel was all we could have asked for. The house is unique and cozy, and everyone we met (both people working there and the other people staying there) were incredibly kind and friendly. We stayed here the night before starting the O trek, and Roberto kept our backpacks of clothes and things that we weren't taking on the trek safe and sound. We cam back after the trek to pick up our things, and Roberto was kind enough to let us shower even though we weren't staying there that night. Also, Roberto was out of town the day we woke up to head out to the trek, but he still prepared a plate of food to make some breakfast and sandwiches that we had the first day of the trek for lunch! Also, a bous was that there were 2 month old kittens there during our stay that just made it all the more fun! Nothing, truly!
- Ellen (9/5): Superb - The breakfast was great and our host was very friendly and helpful!
- Danielle (9/5): Great place to rest up before hiking - Alberto was such a lovely host! He has created a great concept for the hostel and we slept great. The beds are very comfortable and there is shower gel/shampoo for those traveling for longer. Breakfast was a highlight too, as all other reviews mention as well. We absolutely loved our stay. The walls are thin (as with most hotels) but that didn’t bother us. We were so tired we fell straight asleep.
- Colja (9/5): Superb - Unique accommodation, lovely host
- Joana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carla (8/5): Very good -
- Kamil (9/5): Superb -
- Kamil (9/5): Superb -
- Coleen (10/5): Exceptional - Upcycling Hostel was fantastic. Roberto is so friendly and welcoming. The room is a very good size and the bed is incredibly comfortable. The breakfast is also wonderful. It is just a 7-8 minute walk to the bus station and only 10-15 to get into the touristy part of town. Nothing. Everything was great.
- Hsinjou (10/5): Exceptional - Roberto is so nice and friendly. I’m so happy to book the room with him. Spending 2 nights there for the Paine hike . The breakfast and the bed is so gooood. Had a great rest before and after the hike. Highly recommended for traveler to stay in his place.
- Hsinjou (10/5): Hospitality friendly nice room to stay - Roberto is so nice and friendly. I’m so happy to book the room with him. Spending 2 nights there for the Paine hike . The breakfast and the bed is so gooood. Had a great rest before and after the hike. Highly recommended for traveler to stay in his place.
- Kilian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Timothy (10/5): Funky but oh so chic! COOL - Roberto is the ultimate host and the vibe there is awesome. From the outside one is confused—is it really the place. Open the doors to a pleasure palace of creativity and cool. Only one night there. We loved every funky detail. We had to leave the neeborn kittens? Heartbreaking!
- Seguin (10/5): Exceptional - The beauty of this incredible place :) and the breakfast, the hospitality and creativity of the host! The hot water was struggling a bit
- Connor (9/5): Nice homely vibe in a close location to all nearby amenities - Bed was very comfortable, Roberto was a great host and made a great healthy breakfast each morning which was a good way to start the day Hot water was a little intermittent at times - but this just seems to be something that happens sometimes in this part of the world!
- Nicholas (7/5): Alternative place - The man who runs the hostel is nice. The bed was comfortable. Location is good near bus station and town. Inexpensive. Clean. Looks super sketchy from outside. No lock on hostel. One toilet/bathroom for four rooms. The neighbor has a dog that is tied to a fence and barks all night like 6 meters from the window.
- Nicolas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adrienn (10/5): Close to center and to bus terminal, good value for money - The host, Ricardo is really very helpful. Arrinving late and leaving early does not held him back preparring us delicious breakfast box :)
The beds and linens are luxury, sooo comfortable.
- Lucille (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katharina (8/5): Very good - Great vibe, lovely host, very nice breakfast Only one bathroom for four bedrooms, which had both shower and toilet inside.
- Chen (10/5): Exceptional - It almost feels like staying at a friend's house. Its very calm and the home-made breakfast is just the best!
- Juby (9/5): Amazing stay with a wonderful - Upcycling hostel - it’s truly upcycled. A 100%. Don’t expect a huge hostel , this place has 4 rooms and a camper van in the back garden - all this with a small common space and kitchen and a shared bathroom.
There was an overbooking issue and the host reached out earlier asking if I am okay with staying in the camper van and I have to say - it was perfect. What a beautiful view of the city with all mountains - perfect sunset and sunrise. Yes it would look like a lot of garbage stuff in the backyard , but that’s the thing about upcycling. You need all that stuff to carefully plan and envision and build a place like this. His love for cats and how he has adopted 2 of them and now it’s turning to 6(lovely cleo just had a litter of 4). I stayed in the camper van and in the room too - there was nothing short in either .
The best part about this place was the host and the very nice people I met there. Host Roberto is a really nice person , very accommodating, would talk about all the places he has lived , his plans of building more such upcycled places. He is happy to share his food with you , give you tips.
Don’t expect luxury at a hostel . It’s always kept clean and you can use anything that’s available - including the washing machine. Nothing at all .
- Shannon (8/5): Gracious host and good value - Roberto was a great host. Friendly and always making sure I had everything I needed.
- Laura (9/5): Cozy guesthouse with recycled materials - Cozy guesthouse in a good location, close to the bus terminal and center. Roberto is a great host who restored the house by himself with recycled materials. He was always very available for any question and he cooked a very tasty breakfast every morning. The room was cozy and the bed comfortable. All spaces were clean. Roberto was very kind to keep my luggage while I was in Torres del Paine.
In addition, cute cats are in the house, making the experience even better.
- Lucille (10/5): Exceptional - The owner is super friendly, the location is great (close to the bus terminal), the beds are very comfortable and overall we liked the atmosphere :) The hot water in the shower takes a while to become hot 😛
- Miaochang (10/5): Cozy place, friendly host. - The property is clean and cozy. The host Roberto is very friendly and makes tasty and healthy breakfast. Roberto also knows the area well and will give you helpful advice about the area. Nothing.
- Aleš (8/5): Very good - Breakfast, host, equipment, everything was nice. At the first moment we were a bit surprised, but after few minutes we realized that everything has its own reason there. At the end we realy enjoyed the stay and it was one of our the most interesting moments we had in Patagonia.
- Matan (10/5): Exceptional - Best hostel breakfast i ever had, host was very very helpful, bed was great Should have stayed more than 1 night :)
- Duncan (6/5): Good for price - Good location nice breakfast The toilet plumbing dodgy.
- Maya (9/5): Welcoming, amazing value for money stay - Amazing value for money! Roberto is extremely welcoming and kind, feels like you’re staying with a friend. Super tasty homemade breakfast. Spacious, clean rooms with comfy beds and good bathrooms. Bonus points for the cute cats. Don’t be put off by the slightly rough exterior, 100% recommend!
- Oliver (10/5): Exceptional -
- Xiangzheng (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eliya (9/5): Superb -
- Darko (8/5): Very good -
- Tayla (10/5): Cosy :) - Lovely room with heating, great breakfast and kind host! Wish I could’ve stayed longer! All was good!
- Paweł (9/5): Superb - Great breakfast and view from the garden.
- Julian (6/5): Pleasant - Great value for money.
Breakfast was nice.
Room was nice and warm.
Nice view to the sea. It was not our cup of tea. It is basic, but of course that’s why the price is low. The host did his utter best. But we preferred if it all looked bit neater and probably other standards. But for people who are on a budget and are ok with basic, then it’s perfect.
- Katherine (7/5): Decent for a night or two - We stayed in the double with a mountain view. The bed was huge and very comfy. There was also a powerful heater in our room which is unusual and welcome as the weather can be cold. The shower was hot, but only after running it for a while - be patient! The breakfast was delicious. The location was good for the bus station, and for the town. The fluffy cat was very friendly. It was good value for money in an otherwise very expensive tourist town. The host was friendly. The house does not have a formal lock, and so in theory anyone can walk in from the street. We were assured that it is a safe town but we didn't feel that comfortable, especially as our own room also did not lock as someone had broken the door the day before. If you're worried about security, I wouldn't pick here. It is also in a neighborhood with lots of barky dogs so I slept with earplugs in. The house is made from all sorts of things, which is part of the charm and I liked the aesthetic, but also does give an overall feeling of lack of cleanliness (added to by the cats).
- Shelly (10/5): Live like a local in a cozy eclectic house with home made food - The place has a wonderful, eclectic, home feel. Roberto is a wonderful host. On the night I stayed, the 4 rooms were filled with all women traveling for many months from all over the world. He heats the bedrooms really warm and cozy. The living and kitchen areas are cold, but you just wear your jacket. Roberto makes the most amazing breakfast (which is included in the price) including homemade tortillas. I would definitely stay here again if you want a really interesting place to feel a local vibe, and meet interesting people, with a great meal. The home was safe and cozy. there is also a washing machine for clothes. I am not sure if there is a dryer. Also good wifi and Roberto is helpful with questions and travel arrangements. He has two cute cats. The location is in a local neighborhood, a $2 uber or taxi ride (or 30 min walk) from the main tourist area, but it is closer to the bus station. The front door doesn't have a sign yet, and it looks like a run down house from the outside. The google maps doesn't put you in the correct location, but the address is on the building. When you enter the house, it is cozy and eclectic.
- Lucía (10/5): Loved our stay - Loved our stay here, the host is super nice and friendly and the hostel feels like a home, very cozy. The room was basic, but comfortable, warm and clean. The breakfast was delicious and healthy. We would have extended our stay, but unfortunately it was fully booked.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - Cozy one story property with a huge backyard and views over the city and sea. The host Roberto has been very helpful and prepared us a delicious meal early so we could eat before leaving to catch our bus.
- Ben (6/5): Pleasant -
- Wen-chi (10/5): Exceptional - The host was so friendly and trustable. And the breakfast he made was so delicious.
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional - We absolutely loved our stay with Roberto. The place is simple and clean and feels very homely. Roberto's breakfasts are delicious and he can help with any questions you may have.
- Suet (10/5): Exceptional - The host is super nice and friendly. He strives his hardest to answer our questions about puerto natales. He made a nutritional breakfast for us even we had to leave early for W trek. The hostel also has two adorable cats..
- Adam (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - The host was really friendly and gave a homly vibe, all amenities are found here. Really close to the bus terminal for easy access to torres del paine! Breakfast is great too!
