Guest Reviews
- Ye (10/5): It is a traditional japanese style hotel. The onsen is very clean and well maintained. The building is nicely decorated. - Everything! None
- อรรถเจตน์ (10/5): Exceptional - Outdoor onsen and room
- Elizaveta (10/5): Everything was great - We loved this place, two great onsens, spacious rooms, great service. The location is great too, close to everything. A very good choice for enjoying Arima.
- Camilla (9/5): Calming and relaxing with excellent service. - We stayed in the family lodge. It was really comfortable and incredibly spacious, and nice to have a change from all the standard small hotel rooms in most of Japan. It really felt like we were staying in the Swiss Alps! The huge jacuzzi bath in the lodge was amazing too, like having your own private onsen! The service at the hotel is great. The reception staff can speak good english so it is very easy to seek advice and assistance when needed. The shuttle service around town is also a huge bonus especially as the property is at the top of a steep hill. You can request the shuttle during morning and evening time and they can drop / collect you from anywhere in the town. The onsen is also pleasant, with the gold and silver pools available. The design of the lodge room could be improved to seal off the bedrooms from each other, as these are all open and therefore not sound proofed, so if people in one bedroom want to sleep, other guests must not make any noise. It would be great if at least one of the rooms could be sealed off to avoid this.
- Lesa (7/5): This was a lovely area for an overnight stay. - I liked the thermal baths (onsen) The staff were difficult to communicate with. It was daunting not knowing the rules of visiting the onsen and having no one who could communicate this.
- Chan (9/5): Overall it’s a pleasant and relax stay. - I like the spa facilities and the operation hour till very late at night. The pick up service at the train station is not available after 9pm.
- See (9/5): Superb -
- Chun (9/5): Superb -
- Chiu (9/5): Highly recommended and we will visit again whenever we arrived Arima - Excellent onsen and dinner never disappointed me
- Sergey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tristan (9/5): A very pleasant stay in a comfortable hotel - Friendly and helpful welcome at checkin, very cosy cottage accommodation in the attractive grounds, excellent onsen complex, good location, nice amenities. I was initially told by message that the restaurant was closed and when I asked for recommendations of where to eat I was directed to a general website about the town, which was not very helpful. Then on arrival I was told the restaurant was open but it was too late to book a table.
- Xiaomin (9/5): It’s a very nice place, quiet and beautiful. Staffs are really helpful and friendly. - I love the hot spring there.
- Kiam (8/5): Very good - Super good onsen quality. Friendly housekeeping and dining area staff. Well organised, spacious uh and clean room. Front desk staff seemed impatient sometimes. Not as accommodating as I expected compared to my previous stay 17 years ago. Perhaps, too many guests checking in and out at the same time, I didn't get the same friendly touch at the front desk this time round.
- Ken (7/5): Value for Money - The serene place- the villa is surrounded by lush greens and offers a quiet environment to unwind The staff can be more helpful and polite. We stayed in the villa so there is a bit of walk to the Onsen, not that friendly to senior citizens and can be freezing cold during autumn/winter. Okay to stay for a night or two though.
- Puay (9/5): We had a comfortable stay and the scenery and onsen - The architecture of the main hotel building is magnificent while the lodge that we stayed in was very cosy. It was good value for money for 4 of us to stay in the family lodge. No dining options available in hotel during our stay as both restaurants were closed
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Piyachart (10/5): Please come here and stay more than 1 night. Love this place - The place is really good. It's a bit away from center of Arima Onsen but not far to walk. The atmosphere of the hotel is really good. The staffs's service are really good and helpful. Onsens (there are 2 in the hotel) are excellent, quite and clean. Breakfast is marvelous in traditional Japanese style. The only thing I and my family regret is that we stayed for only 1 night. If you plan to come here, please stay for at less 2 nights. There are plenty of parking lot in front of the hotel in hotel's area property and they allow us to park even before and after check out which is very kind. The overall hotel might age from time but they kept the place well and clean. So just don't expect to be the very new hotel with lots of technology. But for us it suited us really well. Love this place though.
- Man (8/5): Very good -
- Shiu (7/5): Overall a good and quiet place. But value for money is on the lower side compared to other places. - The view out the bedroom was great. Had a well rested night perhaps due to good soundproofing and well-behaved guests. The dinner and breakfast were a rather let down. I had expected it to be better than what was offered. The walk up the hill was quite a workout, especially with luggage. They couldn't arrange a shuttle in time for me to catch the next transport out of town.
- Jonathan (9/5): An ideal place for quiet and relaxed stay. Beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast not included. - Complimentary breakfast would be best but we were not offered. Due to its remote location, finding a walking distance breakfast place was not easy. Offering complimentary breakfast to all hotel guests would be an excellent option.
- Kenny (9/5): Superb - The dinner & breakfast were good.
- Daniël (9/5): Superb -
- Elsa (9/5): Superb - The lodge is great with a big bathroom. The description of the hotel indicated there are 3 restaurant provide fine dining and nice dishes and did not stated clear that guests must reserved meals. It's also disappointed that no warm reminder for meal reservation from the hotel. It was raining heavily when we arrived and we need to walk under the rain to search for restaurant. There is rooms for improvement about the services of the hotel.
- Zhaozhe (8/5): Very good -
- Tegan (10/5): Outstanding breakfast, comfortable well appointed rooms. Exemplary stay! - The hotel was charming and spacious with lovely views. The breakfast was outstanding. Generous servings and beautifully served. Onsen was spacious, hot and clean. Staff were very kind and helpful. An excellent start to our trip. nothing.
- Krystle (9/5): Overall a wonderful time for our family. Really nice staff - The quiet ambience and beautiful surroundings No breakfast or dinner available during our stay
- Itay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Choonsiong (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenrick (9/5): Superb -
- Florence (10/5): Exceptional - The lodge is very spacious
- Ye (10/5): Exceptional - Onsen was excellent! Loved every bit of it. Staff are very friendly and helpful!
- Jasmine (9/5): Superb - The view is really good. My family love it. I saw a dead flyer in the onsen.
- Yichen (7/5): Good -
- Zhiming (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandra (9/5): Superb -
- Aries (8/5): Upscale onsen hotel with 2 types of onsen pools for your choice. - The lodge was spacious and they have complete amenities for your comfort. The staffs were not particularly friendly to us, the hospitality in Arima Onsen area seems to be slightly inhospitable, in my personal view, You don't really need to interact much with the staff, but it is just that this hotel is located rather further away from the town, and the walk is slopy and hilly hence one need the hotel shuttle bus.
- King (9/5): Superb -
- Annie (8/5): Very good - Staff spoke good english, especial the shuttle bus driver. Onsen were good. I booked the dinner package and it was wonderful. Hotel should provided more services details when booking the room. Sush as the instrustion of calling the shuttle bus when we arrived by train station. We carried all luggages uphill for 15 mins walk that was not I expected. Also, hotel must have more details the different of meal plan, onsen (outdoor, semi-outdoor or hot spring bath).
- Ka (10/5): Highly recommend. Bravo experience - The staff are very nice that serve us with the dinner and breakfast. The onsen is great with natural mineral water. There are a few onsen to choose so the onsen are spacious. It take 15minutes walk from the main street but shuttle bus can be arranged, which is very nice
- Wei (10/5): Awesome stay, great ryokan - I think we were given a free upgrade, the room is very big and spacious. We love everything in this ryokan especially the onsen. Yukata were provided, even the skincare provided were branded, Kose. Shuttle bus was provided in and out from the ryokan to bus station or train station. Staff were great and the whole environment was serene. A great place to rest and relax and recharge. Awesome stay, great job!!!
- Magnus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lai (10/5): four Onsens two for female two for male. superb - the shuttle service is very effecient and good. the drive is very helpful and nice. Beautiful Onsen. changing of shoes to slippers. walking around with slippers maybe difficult for seniors like us
- Li (8/5): Broken heart - The hotel is close to the town and has shuttle to the town. It has hot spring in the basement so you don’t have to use the hot spring at the town. Room has big space for family. Obviously this hotel was famous at the old time, however not anymore. If you are welcoming international guests, treat them EQUALLY! Some of the staffs are very arrogant and laugh at guests.
- Gladwin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jesslyn (9/5): Superb -
- Chung (10/5): Amazing experience, will definitely come back - We like the room and the onsen, but the services from the staff were amazing, highly appreciate their help. Nothing
- Moon (9/5): Superb -
- Sultan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cindy (10/5): Amazing Kaiseki meals at Arima Onsen - We had a very spacious room. Both the onsens were great. The Japanese Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were outstanding, and worth the stay. We also had a cabin where our 2 girls stayed, and it was super cute. The lobby area was a little too warm.
- Junjie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (1/5): Bad - nice food, good hot spring. front desk clerks. There is a technical issue between Booking.com and hotel on room reservation details (confirmed to book for 4 people, but hotel only received notification for 2 people). The way that the front desk lady resolve this issue is to ask me to pay double of the room charges, regardless the fact that: 1) I already paid via Booking.com for dinner and breakfast for 4 people but hotel only prepared for 2 people. Hotel refused to refund the dinner and breakfast for the additional 2 people; 2) Hotel asked me to resolve by calling Booking.com by myself, even the communication issue is between Booking.com and hotel; 3) the first thing hotel clerk think of is not to find a solution, but to ask me to pay immediately for additional 2 people on room charges, which the amount is over USD4,000 without any reason (as no meals nor additional services provided for the rest of 2 people.
- Thiam (8/5): Relaxing, overall enjoyable stay, however I'll choose the Japanese-style rooms next time - I booked the Family cottage for 4. It was a nice little cottage. It gives me a comfy feeling walking in.
There's a Jacuzzi in the cottage, it sure is nice, but at the same time I feel it isn't very needed since we spend more time in the Onsen.
Walking into the lobby, the hotel has a nice view down the town.
The hotel has 2 Onsen, both indoor, they're great, there is some walking distance (outdoor) away from the cottage but isn't too bad.
I had western style dinner and breakfast, it was a great experience. Nice presentation and tasty, very satisfying.
Just a heads up for any future guests, the ryokan (hotel) is located uphill, please use their provided shuttle service. I unfortunately hiked up there, not knowing there is such a service. The staff's English could use some improvement, but it's understandable.
The rooms aren't isolated at all and sound can pass through from the room to the living room downstair.
Some furniture seem to be a little dusty, but it isn't too bad.
We could use a sturdier pillow, or some extra pillows.
- Barbara (7/5): Don’t think I will stay at this onsen again, the staff apart from a few were not friendly and the cottages are a bit old - The shuttle bus driver that picked us up and brought us down was very friendly and the waitress was very nice at the restaurant La Fontine. Thank you to the chef that made a burger for my daughter. Rooms were too hot and stuffy, there were flies in the room, we were not made aware of the details of the cost and if we didn’t eat at the restaurant there were no options for other restaurants as you needed to take the shuttle bus down to town. We were not told up front that if we took the golf buggy to our rooms that this will incur a separate cost. Also if you do not use the onsen you also have to pay the fee. The receptionist was not very friendly when we checked out.
- Na (9/5): Superb - The onsen is amazing. The breakfast and dinner worthy the money. Very beautiful view. The facilities are bit old.
- Jiabo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sher (9/5): Superb -
- Philip (7/5): Good -
- Man (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eugene (9/5): Nice stay in a very traditional but well-kept ryokan - It’s a very traditional property with a long history. Everything was well maintained and clean, and we had a beautiful view of the autumn leaves from our room. It was a long walk from the entrance to our room. We had to take an elevator, then walk down two corridors and then down some stairs before we could reach our room. Walls are a little thin so you can hear some footsteps or rushing about around your room. Also the air conditioner flap started malfunctioning and we got a little freaked out by the noise until we found out what was causing it
- M (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charttiwut (7/5): Good -
- Wee (5/5): I won’t revisit cos of below average standards. - Quiet and soothing Housekeeping is poor. Failed to clean up and provide enough towels/slippers/ yougata.
Food is just very average and menu is the same over our two nights stay.
Staff not friendly!
- Dione (7/5): happy with the service n the friendliness of the staff - the room is a bit too old, but that is expected
the food is great n the serving is good too
- Shane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yuzhou (8/5): Very good - Dinner and breakfast are superb service
- Jiyu (9/5): Superb -
- F. (8/5): Very good -
- Monique (10/5): A wonderful traditional ryokan experience with a grand view of nature - Our rooms had a great view of the mountains. The Kaiseki meals were delicious and very memorable. The people who served us our meals were gracious and professional.
- Gyounghee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hiu (9/5): Very pleasant experience - Accommodation and facilities are well maintained
- Anonymous (10/5): Very enjoyable stay in Motoyu Kosenkaku! - It was my husband's birthday when we checked in. I had emailed the hotel if there could be any surprise arrangement for my husband. Since I had been very busy the weeks before we travelled to Kobe. I raised my questions bit by bit and day by day to the hotel. The hotel staff was very patience to answer all my questions via booking.com messaging box. The hotel was so kind to upgrade us the room with a better view. I also want to thank the little bit curly but short hair, young foreign gentlemen who served at the check-in counter in the morning of 12 Sep. He is very kind & attentive to address our need when we checked out. The shuttle bus driver, the lady who served our breakfast & dinner and the staff in the lobby, they are so kind & helpful. The room is very clean. For sure, we will stay in this hotel next time when we visit Kobe again. Nothing
- Chang (5/5): Passable -
- Debarpan (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional facilities, exceptional meals served in room, wonderful scenic views as well. A nice attached restuarant as well. Needless to state, the onsen are excellent, both the indoor and outdoor ones- they rotate access for men and women, so you can experience all of them. This is made better by the fact that the inn has their own spring source, and does not need water pumped in front anywhere else. There is also a bar in the hotel, with an excellent bartender - and with guests getting a decent discount on already competitively priced drinks. They also employ foreign staff who speak English and some other languages, so check-in processes and other issues are easily resolved for foreign travellers. They also provide shuttles for the short but relatively steep walk up from the train station, so unless you are travelling light, do call them. You can also cross the road from the station to the tourist information centre and they will be happy to make the call for you. Great stay, would love to come back. It's a little out of the main hot spring town, which means no convenience stores, bits that's the trade off for the amazing views.
- Chiu (9/5): Superb -
- Jtx (8/5): Good, will recommend for short stay - Location is good (quiet yet close to town), rooms are very clean with good view. The meals were mediocre for a ryokan of this scale
- Ruolei (10/5): You got to try the food. It is an experience you won’t regret - The facility is gorgeous, service is fantastic and the food is amazing. Chef Yoshikawa made our stay memorable by preparing THE best meal in my entire life. And the friendly restaurant staff has gone extra mile to accommodate the diet request from my son with special need. Cannot thank them enough for the overall extraordinary experience. Looking forward to come back again.
- Jin (9/5): Superb -
- Debra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lee (10/5): Fantastic onsen with great Arima view - located in a quite area. onsen is great and staff are very friendly. nil
- Siew (8/5): Very good - Great place to experience onsen up in the mountains. The facilities were excellent. none.
- Yen (9/5): Superb - nice and quiet only minutes to the busy street nothing
- Judit (8/5): Nice Japanese style stay with amazing food - I had a beautiful big Japanese style room with a balcony overlooking the city and mountains. I got a lovely kaiseki dinner including kobe beef and amazing breakfast served in the room. There was a nice sake choice for the dinner, but also very good wine. I appreciated the free transfer to town. Sraff was very kind, in particular the lady serving dinner and breakfast. The hotel is up on the hill set in nature but very close to town. The bus trip was very easy and comfortable from Osaka station to Arima onsen (1 hour). The town has some nice stores and the atmosphere was great. It was a lovely get away from the big cities. The facilities need some renovation
- Tami (9/5): Superb -
- Kim (9/5): An enjoyable & relaxing break - The location was on top of the hill & had amazing view. the staff were really friendly. the room seem a little small for 3 people
- Chu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chi (8/5): Very good -
- Wing (9/5): Staff in this hotel were friendly and helpful, we enjoyed our stay. - Dinner and breakfast were good
It is nice to have a shuttle bus service to/from town
Good to have a Nepalese staff who communicated with us in English Nothing
- Thomas (5/5): The view, onsen and the staff are nice. But the furnitures and facilities are getting old. - The onsen are good and comfortable. The staff are polite. The food are sumptuous and the adults like it but the food may not fit kids. Advise may add kids menu if possible. The shuttle is a bit too busy.
- Jane (9/5): Feel such a spoilt by the stay! - The meals were just sumptuous. The presentation, the details and of course the food were tasty too! Th onsen was lovely too. The staff were ever so helpful and friendly. And we got to choose our own beautiful kimono for the stay! We got a room facing the mountainside and I find myself being mesmerised by the 'bowing' of the beautiful trees outside during the stay. It is such a soothing experience just staring at the trees outside.
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb - The location is convenient. Excellent view overlooked the town. The ryokan offers pickup service. Room is very clean. I will recommend to my friends.
- Chan (7/5): Enjoy the shopping experience that near the hotel - Good location, good onsen The mattress are very hard, we barely sleep.for the last 2 nights.
The beef on the second night dinner was like rubber, can't swallow at all
- Minjoo (10/5): Nice atmosphere, food and ryokan! - I’ve booked the hotel for my parents, and they enjoyed to stay at Kosenkaku. My parents were satisfied the dinner and breakfast, and the service was great for them.
- Siok (10/5): Exceptional - The two natural onsen with rich minerals are great. The highlight of our stay is dining in our room. The quality and tastes of the meals are more than we expected.
View from the balcony is beautiful with the Kobe city scene.
Though it's up the hill, the staff is aways there to fetch you to and fro from the town area.
Thank you Motoyu Kosenkaku, we enjoyed our stay so much! Nothing.
