• Nigel (9/5): All in all, a lovely home away from home with a welcoming host. - The house was immaculately clean. It was very comfortable and the host had made it like a real home from home. You could see that a lot of love, care, thought and attention to detail had gone into it. It's a gorgeous home. The beds were comfortable. The host checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed and communication with them was excellent. The listing states that it does not have internet (which we were worried about) but it does. Breakfast ingredients had been provided which we didn't expect, so it was an added bonus. It really is a lovely property, but after travelling around for a few weeks, we were looking forward to having a home base and cooking some meals. Although the kitchen was lovely, more cooking equipment would have been nice (for us). I appreciate that most people probably only stay in the area for a couple of nights and eat out, but I would have liked to have had maybe a measuring jug, some weighing scales and a couple more mixing bowls etc. Also, a jug for the fridge (for water) and an indoor clothes line would have been useful, so we could dry our clothes if it rained. The absence of these did not prevent us from having a wonderful stay. The only other comment, I could make is that the outdoor furniture probably needs either a deep clean or replacing. Despite these minor niggles, we would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

Entire house was super clean, cosy and comfortable.The breakfast had many options and we loved it, especially those cookies.So thoughtful of you to keep ready to noodles packets, pasta ans fruit tins.Loved the experience. • Manuela (5/5): Good location, but no use of terrace - It was a quiet place with good options The patio furniture was extremely dirty, including bird droppings, and therefore unusable at ALL. The furniture at the back corner of the house is also completely dirty. Wallpaper is partially peeling off the walls. The water in the shower doesn't drain well.
• Yvonne (10/5): Excellent lovely and clean excellent fixtures an fittings. - The owner was there doing the lawns and facilitated access. Perhaps one of the bedrooms could have a king bed. The beds were very comfortable warm and lovely bedding but for a couple a queen bed was a little narrow.

• Mahia (10/5): Exceptional - The property is lovely, very clean and updated but also very cosy. It is a perfect size for a family of four or two couples. The kitchen is new and well equipped. The breakfast was an excellent surprise of not just cereal but eggs, bread, tinned spaghetti, tinned fruit and yoghurt and condiments. The area is pleasant and very quiet but it is only a 5 minute walk to shops, cafes and restaurants. If you are visiting Hobbiton I highly recommend staying in Matamata for a weekend getaway it has a lovely vibe, we also enjoyed a wonderful tree lined walk up to the Museum and would have liked to have had time to visit the hot springs. Nothing, everything was perfect. Julz texted to check we were ok and had everything we needed.

• Carolyn (7/5): Big place but needs improvement - Big house with everything we needed (including washer & dryer) except aircon in the 2 bedrooms. We liked that the owner left breakfast food in the fridge and cupboard (loaf of bread, cereals, a few canned goods, milk, yoghurt, jam, butter). The toilet is separate from the shower so two people can simultaneously use the facilities. It's good too that there is a list of suggested restos. It's not within short walking distance to the restaurants. The aircon is only in the living room and none in the 2 bedrooms so it took a while for the bedrooms to cool off. My main issue is that when I used the washing machine, I found that the cleaning staff left laundry inside. The worst thing is, because I had to take out the load to do my laundry, I found out that they mixed the bath towels, kitchen towels and bathroom rug in one laudry load! After finding this out, I question the cleanliness of the bath towels & kitchen towels and didn't want to use them anymore except we had no choice because we didn't bring any. Since the bathroom towels are dark brown in color, I couldn't really tell too how clean they are. I had no time to relay this issue to the owner because we arrived late afternoon and only stayed for 1 night. The breakfast food supply would have been a nice touch but I got upset with this last bit.
• Ross (10/5): Very pleasant, with a lovely host. - We loved this little place, my daughter especially, she even said it was one of her favourite places out of all the accommodation we had stayed at while enjoying our holiday in wonderful New Zealand. Clean, cosy and comfortable, we highly recommend POHUTUKAWA PLACE. Nothing much. You can't really do much about the location i know, but being near a main road did detract from the overall tranquillity of the place a little. But, hey, forget that, if you need to be near Rotorua and be comfortable on a budget, then this is the place!
