Guest Reviews
- Peter (8/5): Grand hotel in good location with only a few shortcomings. - Style of hotel, location, room had a bath We reported a broken light bulb to reception but it wasn’t changed, hot water was only warm on one night, Friday night very noisy until midnight from pub opposite.
- Eddie (10/5): - Staff went beyond helpfull when i arrived with autisic son the room we got was not good for his push chair so the hotel manger uograded us to a suite free of charge
- MARYCAN (10/5): - We loved the hotel Nothing
- Jane (9/5): Very nice - Room was spacious as was the bathroom. Big bed and nice sofa in the room. We didn’t have breakfast. Good meal in the evening. Nothing
- Masi (4/5): Bah - Ottima la colazione Puzza di moquette, bagno senza spazzolone, affaccio pessimo, areatore fastidioso.
- Elaine (10/5): -
- Manu (10/5): - Sehr gute Lage. Ich könnte viel eher einchecken.
- Helen (8/5): Overnight stay - Central location. A comfortable room with very good coffee/tea making facilities. There was a good selection of breakfast items, including a gluten free muesli option and an extra rasher of bacon was given to replace the lack of gf sausages and gf black pudding We felt that little concession was made for someone on a medically required gluten free diet. Snacks provided in the room all contained gluten.
- María Julia (10/5): Excelente hotel. Muy recomendable. En todos los aspectos. - Excelente en todos los aspectos No tengo nada que decir al respecto
- Brian (9/5): -
- Robert (9/5): Relaxing two nights stay at this delightful hotel. - The property was convenient for the Railway station just a short walking distance and a few minutes from the main shopping areas, the property had a lovely long staircase the bar was just inside near reception, lovely building as well. I never had food there so I can’t comment on that. There was nothing I disliked about the property.
- Fiona (10/5): I had a very comfortable and relaxing stay at Malmaison. - Location is great.
The room was very comfortable Nothing,
- Graham (8/5): -
- Maureen (10/5): -
- Peter (8/5): - The cooked breakfast was of good quality products but the meaty parts were dried out as tough they had been kept hot on a hot plate and not a ban Marie
- William (6/5): - Location was fab Room wasn't as clean as expected, floorboards were a nightmare
- Shannia (8/5): -
- Bonanski (10/5): - Great location, helpful staff and nice decor

- Taylor (3/5): Cheep and clean just the noise that let it down - Location Very noisy got woken up by bin lorries at 6am
- Saskia Makin (5/5): - Great location Asked for a wake up call at 2.15am. Rang through at 2.20am. Asked for the luggage trolley to be at my room for 2.50am. Had to collect ourselves with no assistance from the night porter who just sat watching his phone
- Gabriella (10/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): - The room was nice clean and accessible to the city of dundee The cost for one night was a little high but for the experience was acceptable
- Pamela (10/5): -
- Mark (8/5): Nice location - Perfect location
- John (10/5): Lovely place and central to my needs - Great and central Food was good
- Wilma (8/5): Fine - Location The room we were in was designed for use by disabled guests . It had no bath which was disappointing
- Andrew (10/5): Will be back! - Staff were welcoming and friendly, location and clean room.
- Vicky (3/5): Mediocre - The location was good Stairs and access, not disability friendly expecially to blind/partially blind staff didn't explain anything or be that welcoming, i had pre messaged and was aproved to get my room an hour early to arrive and not get it, also was denied late check out,
- David (10/5): -
- Fiona (7/5): Great location - Great location overlooking the V&A and next to the train station. It's a reasonable hotel with large rooms. it just felt that things needed to be taken up a notch. The hotel bar area seemed to be busy with local parties at the weekend, so not conducive for a weekend away. The music at breakfast was so loud it was like being in a nightclub, although the staff did turn this down when I asked them to. Cleaning of the room was ok, one night better than the other. It's not a bad place to stay it's just not luxury that Malmaison promote they are.
- Eva Grattan (9/5): -
- Jennifer (10/5): Malmaison Dundee has become a family favourite, always our first choice. - All staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was near a lift as requested and comfortable, and great to be able to open a window. There was an excellent breakfast selection and the quality was good, and well cooked - allergen information was exceptional. My daughter and I both agreed that our rooms had been designed by a man; nowhere to plug the hair dryer in near a mirror, and nowhere to hang towels or dressing gown near the shower. Hooks might be a good idea, and also coat hooks so damp coats don't need to be next to dry clothes in the wardrobe. My husband would have appreciated some low level lighting to guide him to the bathroom in the night - I think he tried to get in the wardrobe! Nothing major, just constructive feedback....
- MacDonald (10/5): - Room was excellent was very clean and new, staff were all fantastic from reception to breakfast.
I could not fault it at all, it is in my top 2 Hotels I have ever stayed in.
- Carey (9/5): Beautiful decor and amenities! - Great location for our travel needs and for exploring Dundee city center. Very beautiful decor and kind staff. I would’ve appreciated if they included breakfast. At least include continental, and could have an upcharge option for hot foods if wanted. However the breakfast selection was very nice and generous.
- Luc (9/5): Tres bel établissement - L’élégance du bâtiment La propreté
- peter (8/5): -
- Andy (9/5): -
- Bruce (8/5): Happy to stay here - Perfect location next to train station, paid parking and city centre
- English (10/5): - Price and location
- Mitchell (7/5): -
- Alexander (7/5): -
- Amy (6/5): - Close to everything which was brilliant, fab location
Staff were wonderful Views of a wall...
Wasn't as clean as a 4 Star hotel should be
- Leisha (10/5): Perfect place to stay while in Dundee, close to everything. - Located close to the train station and near lots of shops and restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful.
- Philip (10/5): -
- Lyndsay (10/5): -
- Amy (10/5): Brilliant wee place - How central it was to the city centre. How welcoming the staff were, how clean the hotel was. N/a
- Paul (8/5): Great location and comfortable - Dog friendly
- Elizabeth (7/5): Nice property in good location. Friendly staff - The room was a nice size, linen was lovely and beds very comfortable. We also had a lovely breakfast, served by a charming young lady. The room temperature control was not working. We turned it down from 28c to 23c a couple of times. During the night the temperature went back up and we had a fitful night as the room was too hot. Reported to reception the next morning.
My daughter had her two dogs with her and according to Hotel rules we could not leave them in the room alone. In other properties there is an area of the restaurant which is put aside for people with dogs. ie. Bar area next to restaurant. The initial proposal from the front desk was the downstairs bar this would have involved going up and down stairs to get our breakfast, and a member of staff having to do the same. When I asked if there was somewhere near the breakfast room we were put into a meeting room, this felt very isolating. It would seem that while you have a policy to accept dogs which is great the logistics of the rules you have in place have not been thought through. I understand that ensuring that all guests are comfortable is not any easy feat. However, I travel extensively with my own dogs so I know that with some thought and planning - a better experience can be had for everyone concerned.
- Andy (9/5): A perfect one night break with the dog. - A friendly welcome every time we came back to the hotel. Large well appointed room with a very comfortable bed. Spotless bathroom. Convenient location. nothing.
- Liam (9/5): Nice location, poor response getting back to me - The location I absolutely love the property, My only issue was that I asked for the room to be decorated for my wife’s birthday. This was not done I asked a couple of times if this was ok but no one got back to me. This is they only let down of my stay and I ruined it for me and my wife. I would like a manager to get back to me about this.
- Norma (9/5): - We were only there for one night, but was a great location and lovely surroundings x Breakfast prices are bit dear .
- Rosemary (9/5): Excellent stay and would definitely stay here again if visiting Dundee in the future - Easy check in - fabulous room - friendly staff and easy check out too. Pillows were exceptionally fluffy and comfy. Great facilities in the room too. N/A
- Bonthrone (10/5): -
- Frank (8/5): - Good location, good size room
- Sharon (9/5): / - / Gym
- Maureen (8/5): - The breakfast was excellent, very friendly staff. I feel the Malmaison is good value for money and the location suited us, we visited the Discovery and V&A.
- Natasha (10/5): I was staying with my teenage daughter so we could attend a concert. Our twin room was lovely. Staff really nice, accomm - Location, staff, cleanliness and overall layout of room. There was nothing we didn’t like about the property
- Susanne (9/5): The hotel was friendly and clean and the location couldn’t be better - The location was great and the staff were really welcoming. In a busy area, but not noisy. We did not use the restaurant, but it looked really nice.
- Stuart (9/5): - Room Road noise
- Peter (9/5): Malmaison Dundee - Nice friendly staff.
Very convenient location
Comfortable bed.
A good breakfast cooked to order (I hate buffet breakfasts). On the first night the chap in the room above us seemed to have a problem with the TV volume and the steeplechase he was organising. He gave up at about 02:30.
On the second night asked reception twice for some uht capsules for coffee. Was told the night porter would bring some up. Eventually ended up going down to reception where the night receptionist kindly provided me with some fresh milk.
The industrial HVAC system in the dining room looks distinctly out of place.
- Brian (9/5): . - Location
Room design / style … and in-room amenities .
The breakfast Nothing
- Scott (9/5): -
- lewis (10/5): - The staff were brilliant Did not end up having breakfast as it was made to order and was too slow
- Fiona (8/5): - A good location with friendly staff and decent food. However on this visit my Club room was smaller than before without a relaxing armchair which was disappointing as I spent some time there, and on a lower floor which meant increased disturbance from the street. Smaller room. Less facilities.
Decor and lighting make it quite dark.
- Jonathan (10/5): Casual friendly helpful stay - Location, decor, food and staff Nothing not to like
- David (5/5): Quick overnight stay waiting for flight - Location Smell in corridors
- Jim (9/5): Well worth a visit. - Great location and nice room The reception area is not particularly welcoming
- Fiona (10/5): - It was in a great location. Staff were very friendly and it was spotless
- Lee (8/5): Very good. 'I'll be back'!. - My room was large and comfortable with good spacious facilities. Breakfast was good and hot with plenty of alternatives to the 'usual' meaning of a cooked breakfast. The hotel is an old renovated railway hotel and boasts original internal aspects of 'Grand' hotels of the era. A 'grand' staircase to die for as is the glass 'cupola' seen from all floors. Dundee is a good base to tour the east coast of Scotland with very good rail services, north and south, for visiting other towns and cities. Nothing really, just a good base for the above.
- candida (10/5): -
- James (9/5): Cool place to stay - Great location, cool hotel, nice friendly staff No car park but several options close by for public car parking.
Would have liked to have seen a local brew on tap in the bar😃
- Dirk (8/5): - Goede bedden. Her en der wat sleets
- Anne (10/5): -
- Janine (8/5): Great spot for an overnight trip to Dundee. - Perfectly located for the train station, V&A and a bus to Broughty Ferry. Large, spacious, quiet room. Only minor point is that it does now feel a little dated, and some of the tap beers were unavailable.
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely location and staff
- Joynson (8/5): -
- Jessica (10/5): - Good location.
- Jordan (10/5): - Everything. The service, attention to detail.
- neil (8/5): -
- Caroline (8/5): Excellent comfortable stay, friendly staff . - Great location Would be nice to have parking
- Christine (7/5): Could be better - It wasn't far from the train station which was brilliant!! Unfortunately my room was right above the function room where a wedding was being held constant loud music all day until 10pm but since it was a wedding didn't feel it was appropriate to complain, my room was clean but the bathroom looked very tired and needed upgraded but apart from that it was functional. I didnt go down to the restaurant for food so can't comment on that, but breakfast .. continental side of things were lovely however, for the hot food it wasn't the best for the price point
- Colin (6/5): - Didn’t have breakfast It’s beautiful old building and very historic for the city but needs a it of refurbishing and it has Very squeaky floor boards in bedroom
- Paul (10/5): -
- Peter (9/5): There for a wedding what a day and place to celebrate - Remember it as the old Tay Hotel what
a renovation Nothing
- Eleanor (9/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): - Felt like at home ,the staff where very good & very attentive to help & do as much ? Nothing couldnt fault the hotel or staff
- Danielle (10/5): - The staff were lovely and the place was amazing. Bed sheets felt like paper but bed was comfortable
- Lynn (10/5): - Comfy bed, exceptional choices for breakfast!
Friendly and helpful staff
Fab location for bus or train, really a great hotel 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Nothing not to like
- Christopher (10/5): -
- CraigCam (10/5): Always happy to learn I've been booked into Malmaison. - I stay over in Dundee often and always happy with a booking at Malmaison. The room is spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and a really straightforward check in and check out. It can be really warm in the rooms but once the window is open it cools down. I'd prefer firmer pillows.
- Layla (4/5): Building is lovely. Food is awful! Service can do with a little overhaul/better training and everyone knowing exactl - It’s beautiful and clean Service wasn’t good at all. Staff at bar were lovely. Rest of staff were nice enough but it felt like no one knew what they were supposed to be doing! Food was terrible. Food service was terrible.
- paul (6/5): -
- Lynnette (10/5): It was lovely and relaxing. - Loved how it was close to Caird Hall and eating places.
Spacious bathroom/bedroom very nice indeed, the central staircase was stunning. I loved it all but my mum found the decor throughout was very dark. We went for a drink in the bar after our show and there was a couple who didn’t get the drinks they asked for and they didn’t have the drink my mum drank but they all had other drinks, barman was very nice and chatty 😊
- David (4/5): - Location Lighting was poor
No suitable facilities for hair drying
Pillows poor quality
No instructions for operating air conditioning
- Barr (5/5): One off. - The Suite was nice and big with two rooms, the bathroom was nice. The second room with settee had no remote for TV so couldn't use it. Would have been as well in standard room watching TV from bed. Told staff but nothing done.
- klenova (8/5): -
- Bee.emily (9/5): Despite the unremarkable food, overall I had a really nice stay and would come back - Location was perfect, just across from the train station and the V&A. The room was much bigger than I expected with a large comfy bed and pillow. Refrigerated water was a nice touch. The restaurant was disappointing. I expected an almost fine dining experience but my dish was overcooked and dry and lacked flavour. The Negroni also lacked flavour. Everything was way overpriced when compared to the quality of the food. The same goes for breakfast. They have a coffee machine that makes flavorless lattes.
