Guest Reviews
- Helen (9/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): Hyggeligt, pittoreske og centralt - Beliggenhed, samt personlig betjening
- Helen (9/5): Great local base - Great location of the property, central to what we needed and with a parking spot. Paula greeted us on arrival and was super friendly and helpful. Beautifully decorated property that was comfortable and had what we needed. Our dog was very welcome and was at ease straight away. Great to walk him along the river. Fresh bed linen and towels. Great shower and an inviting bath, which we didn't get to use but would be fantastically indulgent if you were staying longer or as a couple. Wish we were also there longer to appreciate the great book selection. Stairs were difficult but fine once you got used to them. Also, the approach to the property was tricky with suitcases. Was harder for older guests and would be worse in bad weather. Luckily, we had sunshine. The attic room is more suited to younger children, and the bathroom is via the middle room, which is fine if you are all family. Nothing that ruined our stay.
- Richard (8/5): Lovely location and great property - Amazing location beside the river. Lovely quirky property The bathroom is only accessible through the first floor bedroom which wasn’t clear on the property description. If we were only using the other bedrooms this would have been the perfect property.
- Linda (10/5): The perfect place to stay to enjoy Winchester. - We absolutely loved our stay at this property. The location was perfect. We loved being right on the water. The view was amazing! The house was so clean and comfortable. The bathtub was wonderful! Our host went out of her way to help us settle into her home. We had a lot of luggage so it wasn’t easy getting it to the house, but we would still stay there again if we ever return to Winchester.
- Amanda (10/5): Happy, fun, comfortable and calm. - Location, well equipped, comfortable, perfect. Nothing, loved it all.
- Matthew (7/5): Lovely location- a bit pricey- only one WC - Location TV wasn’t working
Only one toilet
- Judith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (9/5): Great location, walkable and a very comfortable base. - The location is brilliant and the views are beautiful. The house is cosy and comfortable and we felt right at home.
- Hele (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely location, house was very nice. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The only downside is the parking but we resolved it easily.
- Trina (7/5): Enjoyable, but a little disappointing with the accommodation even the cost. - Good location, property could do with a refurbishment, ideal for family break but not 4 adults.
- Jay (7/5): Good - Great location Not really suitable for two couples as open plan beyond one separate bedroom. Better for a family stay.
- Tim (10/5): Lovely - Fantastic location, great property
- John (10/5): A great weekend away - Location was excellent. Nothing.
- Joanna (8/5): Delightful. Will recommend. - Self-catering with all necessary equipment. Cosy, quirky cottage, extra comfy sofa, lovely surroundings and views. excellent location for city centre, sights, walks and station. Would have liked written instructions for unfamiliar heating system. Didn't expect the 3rd bedroom to be walk through for bathroom and upper floor. It was fine for the 3 of us, but might be inconvenient for some.
- Refalo (10/5): Lovely place with many beautiful views & garden, Amazing location. Wish we could have stayed longer. - The host was very helpful and available to assist with checking in. The location was lovely with walking access to great food and historical sites. The view and terrace gardens were nice even in winter. The place advertised “free private parking” but it was actually first come first serve street parking. When we arrived around 7pm there were no spots left. The host helped us find the near by multistory car park, but the listing feels misleading. Even just a note saying “arrival at 3pm is better if you are ant free parking” would be helpful.
- Karena (10/5): Beautiful character house on the river - Stunning terraced house with so much character in a wonderful picturesque location on the river! Nothing
- Alex (8/5): Very good -
- Anita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely property in a great location - Lovely, cosy property in a great location. Paula was super helpful. Nothing
- Fewell (9/5): Comfy stay in pretty location. - Lovely Views from front windows. Pretty river walks. Cosy, homely accommodation. The riverside garden needs a touch of tlc.
- Elliott (10/5): Just a wonderful weekend 😀 - The property met every single need! Great location No
- Lisa (10/5): Very professional and friendly host (Paula) and a gorgeous town house on the river. - Millstream House is a charming, well located property. It was warm and cosy with plenty of hot water for showers and baths. We were allowed to bring our dog and there was a convenient pathway to grassy walks for her. The location to town was superb. Views across the city onto the cathedral were very romantic, One the first night we ordered food from Just Eat and the delivery driver has difficulties finding the property. That's the only negative I can think of.
- Taryn (10/5): Exceptional - Location was outstanding,
The owner was lovely, communicative and thoughtful.
The house was perfect, even allowed our dog which was helpful Nothing
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Katie (9/5): Lovely stay in the perfect location - Great location, cute house, clean and great owner.
- Martin (10/5): Definitely worth the trip - Great location, just a short (pretty) walk either to the cathedral or in to town. We had our 6&8 year olds in tow and the walk never phased them it’s that short.
Beautiful property, very comfy, and the host Paula was a delight to deal with
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful house, lovely location. An easy walk along the river into town. Host met us on arrival and was very friendly and welcoming. Would very much like to stay here again in the summer and enjoy the garden!
- Dean (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (9/5): We had a wonderful time. - Location 3rd bedroom route to toilet
- Carolyn (10/5): Perfect family weekend getaway - The interior is beautiful Nothing
- Jade (10/5): Very good! Cosy and clean! - It was clean and comfortable and spacious. It was a lovely place for the family to stay for the night. We all said it would have been better if we stayed in the future for longer, just so we could appreciate it more. The location was close to where we needed to go. It did get a little cold in the night and didn’t know where the heating was until checkout.
- Mark (10/5): Mission accomplished ! We had a lovely time and are pleased to have chosen Millstream. - Quiet and homely. It was very comfortable.
- John (9/5): Half-term cosy getaway to Winchester - Really cosy and clean. It has everything a family would need on a city break. Car park is by permit and limited number of spaces meant that you may need to park further away if out during the day
- Li (9/5): Wonderful stay with great location and peaceful setting - We recently stayed at this property and had an excellent experience. The location was perfect, making it easy to explore all that Winchester has to offer, while the peaceful setting of the house provided a relaxing escape from the city. Our host, Paula, was incredibly helpful and attentive, going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. Her warm hospitality made us feel right at home.
We truly enjoyed our time here and highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Winchester. We would gladly stay here again
- Rosie (9/5): Great stay, would stay again. - Easy access to town and beautiful view over the river. Very comfortable stay. Good for a family stay as catered for children. Adults can stay in the twin room, just a bit tight for space. The outside could be updated. Needs a hand rail out the front as steps are very steep and slippery when wet. Just needs a bit of TLC.
- Barry (10/5): It was great!! - The location Nothing
- Laura (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (9/5): Lovely hous - Paula met me at the property to show me around and hand the keys over.
- Phillipa (10/5): Wonderful loved it! - Location was wonderful.Access however from your car involves a lot of steep steps not one for the elderly or those with mobility problems. We found the house perfect and so comfortable. So nice to be central and by the lovely river Itchen. As long as you are aware of steep steps nothing not to like!
- Helen (10/5): Stunning location, comfortable & cosy bedrooms, perfect place for an easy and scenic walk into town steeped in histo - Such a wonderful location with river & cathedral views and riverside walk into town. So beautiful and the perfect introduction to Winchester. Incredibly comfortable beds and Paula was a very helpful host. Nothing
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- William (9/5): Lovely place to stay, recommended. - Beautiful home close to town center. All was good
- Dawn (9/5): Superb - Perfect walking distance for Winchester city centre. Lovely old house right on the river.
- Simon (9/5): This house a generous feel and a calm atmosphere. Would recommend - The location of this house is what makes it. I lay in bed with sun coming in the window and the comforting burble of the River Itchen to the fore -bliss Nothing it was perfect for our purposes
- Selina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - The garden and the view are absolutely lovely!
- Sheriden (10/5): Beautiful house, great host and perfect location. - The location of this property is perfect. It is a lovely short walk along the river into town and very close to the motorway. Paula was amazing with meeting us to get into the house. We were delayed and she was very kind in waiting for us. The house is beautiful, it was comfortable and had everything we needed. There is only one parking space but there are options nearby. No real negatives to this house.
- Alexandra (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - The house was very nice and clean, and everything you needed was supplied. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen is well supplied. Very good location and very pleased with our stay.
- Maeve (10/5): Beautiful house by the river and in the middle of town. - Loved both the house and the location
- Alexandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Good location close to town. Sort of difficult to find, and then get to, but worth it
- Orrin (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place. Amazing location. Felt like a home away from home. One of our favorite places that we have stayed in our travels.
- Nicola (7/5): Good - Location
- Austin (8/5): Very good - Super quirky house , lovely location and very hand for a walk into the picturesque town.
A home you could see yourself living in. Lovely accommodation. lovely host. Car parking was a little awkward. Not on premises and when we returned in the evening we had to park on double yellows.
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Paz (9/5): Superb -
- Elinor (9/5): Lovely setting overlooking gardens, large stream. Walkable to everything. Wish we could've stayed - The location was great, once we found it. Booking.com uses wrong address it should be Terrace, not St .Walkable to everything. Beautiful views of city from top floor & of stream. 2 terraces/garden with seating were lovely . Great to sit by the view & have wine. We went to the wrong address , the address given by Booking.Com. Unpleasant finding the wrong place & having to walk & move all our luggage. Owner says she's been unable to get Booking to correct the address. Actual address is lovely, quiet location not on busiest main street. Taxi driver alsoconfirmed there are problems with the Booking address. Views in photo don't begin to do justice to the garden, terrace & pergola , all with seating . Light from the attic/dormer room windows shines on the single bed in morning , causing sleep problem.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - The house is beautiful and the location is great and central for visiting Winchester and Paula is lovely.
- Phillipa (10/5): Thoroughly recommend this cottage for a visit to Winchester and around the area - Fantastic location by the river, easy walk into the centre of Winchester. Lovely decor, very pretty house and lots of nice touches N/A
- Sarah (8/5): Cozy, comfortable, clean place to stay close to town, yet very quiet. - The house was clean and beautiful and very comfortable. Nothing seemed broken or dirty. Heated up quickly when we got chilly. Quiet location close to the High Street. The host met us to hand over the keys and she was very kind. That made me feel even more comfortable to stay there. The internet is extremely slow. Even uploading one picture took a very long time. If you are using this as a working vacation, this is not the place for you as you will be extremely frustrated. If you have no need of internet, though, you will be comfortable and happy! I also want to note that the address on the Booking.com site is different than the actual address. Make sure to confirm the address with the owner before you book. I was not made aware of this until the day before I arrived and it caused me some anxiety since the actual address does not show up on Google Maps. It is not very far off from the listed address so it wasn't a problem once I figured out where I was going.
- Dominic (10/5): Excellent on all counts - Spacious home. Perfect location. Quiet.
- Tina (10/5): Great property for family or friends in the centre of Winchester overlooking the river - Great location right in the centre of Winchester at the start of the South Downs Way which could accommodate friends & family for one night. Paula was very responsive with answering queries and helping us with parking. Fine for us but need to be aware of steep stairs if you have any guests less mobile.
- Sophie (9/5): Lovely property in a fabulous location - Such a lovely property, perfect for a night away with friends. Paula was kind enough to meet us near the property, and allowed us to check in early which was great. Super comfy beds and a lovely bathroom! The provision of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits was very welcome . A super location with easy access into town, the property is ideal for a mini break. Just be aware that the single bed is basically in an open plan area and the bathroom leads off this . Stairs to the twin room are also here. It wasn't a problem for us though.
- Ross (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zoe (10/5): Fabulous we will be back 🤩 - The location was absolutely fantastic, hearing and seeing the river so tranquil, no road noise, comfy beds, good facilities in the kitchen, sofa was lovely and cosy. Host was very communicative, parking included and dog friendly 🐶 Nothing
- Jean (10/5): We were completely satisfied and wished we could stay longer -
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amanda (9/5): It was perfect, a very cute cottage in an extremely convenient location. - Location was excellent and it was lovely looking over the mill stream
- Kim (6/5): Gorgeous location and house was nice. Not as clean or well equipped as previous places we’ve stayed. - Location Access and cleanliness
- Tim (8/5): Excellent comfortable accommodation in a convenient location with friendly and helpful host. - Breakfast was never part of the package, but a very comfortable and convenient location for all the sites of Winchester.
Would look to return with family to experience this lovely home. Travelled by train, but may be difficult to find parking if travelling by car.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Excellent location! Beautiful house! Host was wonderful - kind & helpful! -
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Stefan (10/5): Paula went out of her way to get us settled in and helped us with parking. We enjoyed our stay although it was too short - Great setting with stream running next to the garden. Very peaceful.
- Turner (10/5): Fantastic family Christmas break, thank you Paula! - The property is beautiful and the location was perfect for us to get to the town centre on foot. Also well connected for dog walking although a little muddy! Nothing!
- Tamora (10/5): It was just what we were looking for! -
- Michael (10/5): Christmas Market at Winchester - Excellent location, comfortable and welcoming. Nothing really…
- Anonymous (10/5): Was a lovely place with a great location - Great location and Paula was so lovely meeting us .
- Carol (10/5): perfect accommodation for our visit to Winchester Christmas market. - lovely setting, very well equipped, very cute nothing wrong with the property but booking.com put the wrong address on their site.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (10/5): Practically perfect every way!!! Lovely house, fab host, beautiful city,! - Wow!!! What a lovely quirky home in a quiet little spot, yet only a stones throw away from the beautiful city. Perfect location, bed was so comfy and Paula went above and beyond to make our weekend very special. Her communication throughout was fantastic and she even left us a little pressie and treats on arrival. Simply book and see for yourselves! Everything was beautiful, if I had to point out anything it’s simply an observation to those walking down the steps to the rivers edge… the wood trims on the stairs gets a little slippery. As long as you stay on the concrete you’ll be fine!
- Joanne (8/5): Very good -
- Angie (10/5): Amazing find! - A beautiful location and a quirky lovely house. Amazing views and so close to the centre of town. Paula (owner) went above and beyond to help. Nothing. Could not fault our stay - wish we had longer.
- Ed (9/5): Superb -
- Maryrose (8/5): We were warm comfy and happy with our stay at Millstream House - Good Location for the centre of Winchester The toilet seat was loose and came off in my hand.

- Mitchell (10/5): Fantastic - Beautiful property, right in the heart of winchester, Paula is a wonderful host, looking forward to staying again.
- Mechthild (9/5): Lovely few days with friends visiting Southampton and Winchester. Would definitely recommmend a visit and our warm and c - Such a lovely quirky house with everything in it that we needed. Perfect location along the river and close to centre. Only one bedroom that had a door. The rest was open plan… but it was no great problem for us.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Lovely house in a perfect location - Location, house… everything
- Nigel (10/5): Great place to stay walking distance of all Winchester had to offer - excellent location, really cosy house.
Good bathroom facilities, lovely big towels and other essentials if you had forgotten anything.
Tea coffee and milk and biscuits which was greatly appreciated
Would definitely recommend
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect for getting into town and so picturesque
- Carole (10/5): Perfection. - Beautiful, clean, perfect location, accommodating host, couldn’t have asked for more. Absolutely nothing
- Sharon (9/5): Superb - Fantastic location short stroll into town, amazing views over the river and cathedral. Nice decor and comfy beds. Nothing. Really loved it.
There are steps to carry up your luggage but the views are worth it.
- Marion (8/5): Pleasant - Don't know what you mean BreakfSt?
Location good one criteria in booking the cottage Nothing we didn't actually dislike
Some manuals to explain the cooker never having used gas and how to work heating
Car parking distance from the cottage with baggage a bit tricky
- Tamara (10/5): A little gem in the centre of town - Paula went out of her way to make our stay easy and comfortable. The basics hamper was an unexpected extra, so we had more time to explore. The bed was so comfy I didn't want to get out! Absolutely stunning location.
- Joanne (10/5): A beautiful relaxing property - The prefect place to stay whilst moving my daughter into Uni.
A well-kept old property in a beautiful and convenient location.
It was clean
Well equipt, with a lot of personal touches, genuine thought went into ensuring guests had everything they could need.
Relaxing and comfortable throughout
Great host, friendly and helpful
I couldn't have been luckier to find this gem in such a central location.
I am looking to book her again soon I liked everything because I love old properties, this one had a few quirks. These are things to know, not really things I didn't like. Everything was perfect for my needs.
The ground coming into the property was uneven, and the steps into the house were different levels.
Inside one of the stairs was deeper than the rest.
The second bedroom is also access to the bathroom and the attic bedroom.
A bit of the stove was broken, it did not affect me cooking
The very beautiful bathroom had a restored cracked sink and marks in the roll top bath.
