Guest Reviews
- Guest (9/5): On adore Rivendell !
- matias (8/5): Por precio conviene -
- Hussein (10/5): - Location was super. Breakfast was good.. Fully equipped kitchen to cook. Beds in dorms were not bunker types.. All lined up on the floor... Which is so good. Many bathrooms. Many grocery stores next to d hostel. -

- Julie (6/5): Moyen - Personnel.
- Benjamin (4/5): Water only on demand - Good location, okay room. Totally ruined by the fact that reception kept turning off water access when no one was using the showers. That meant having to ask permission everytime we wanted to shower or even use any sink. It also means that the toilets obviously don't fill up after being flushed which means if you need to use them after someone else, you won't be able to flush. Never seen anything like it in a hostel before. The included breakfast is also disappointing.

Nada
- Marta (10/5): Excellent - The service people were amazing Sometimes it was not very clean, but good value for money
- Mario (5/5): - The place needs a proper paint job, but other than that, it is a very fair price for what it has to offer.

Calme Pas tres propre, petit dej succint (à faire soi même), cuisine sombre et triste. Espace commun peu pratique.

- Yun (7/5): - Very chill hostel
Fully equipped kitchen They could have invest an electric kettle, the water takes ages to get boiled
Lots of noises on the second floor because of the wooden floor so hard to get a good rest
Ben sevdim. Personel yardimci oluyor.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Esmee (8/5): Good value for money hostel - Kitchen available to make food, extra blankets are nice when it gets cold, friendly owner, hot showers, luggage storage for a few days was no problem. The rooms and bathrooms were not always clean. The kitchen has limited supplies and has only a little space for doing the dishes. Not the most social hostel.
- Augustin (8/5): Very good -
- Dianne (9/5): Superb - Lovely friendly staff. Good size room. Plenty of shared bathrooms. Good value for money
- Alina (8/5): Very good -
- Yeong (10/5): Exceptional - Good value
- Dhem (8/5): Very good -
- Dhem (8/5): Simple but good enough - I stayed there for a total of 6 nights. The room was nice. Even though , Cusco is a quite cold during the night but they gave an extra blanket .. I got 1 sheet and 3 thick blankets ,so I was warm enough.🤣
There are many showers with warm water and toilets. If you are lucky you will get an even hotter shower!!!.
The breakfast was simple but good enough. They provided bread, 2 raw eggs, butter, jam, milk, coffee, chocolate and tea. So, you just cook and clean on your own.
The location is walking distance to the main plaza and 600 metres to Peru rail and San Pedro market where you can find all the stuff and food.
There are common areas but I didn't spend much time there because of the weather.
They also allowed you leave your luggage in the storage room for free.
The staff are nice and helpful.
PS. They won't accept credit cards. Make sure you got enough cash You could not wash your clothes but it is ok there are many laundry services nearby and you can hang simple things like towels, underwear and socks on the balcony.
I slept on 2 different beds. One bed was uncomfortable and I could feel the pocket spring inside the mattress but the other bed was nice and comfy.
- Neeley (9/5): Great location. Easy walk to train and main square each 10 min away. - Good location. Easy check in service, lots of bathrooms with hot showers. No bunk beds and free luggage storage. Common areas and rooms are very cold (but there are lots of blankets and you won't get cold in bed). There is no cozy place to hangout and meet other travelers Not a very social hostel.
- Katharina (10/5): perfect stay - Everything! I would come back any time
- Nava (5/5): Passable -
- Adi (2/5): Very poor -
- Oliver (9/5): Superb -
- Noddy (8/5): Very good -
- Bruno (9/5): Superb -
- Mike (7/5): Good - Hot showers, warm beds, friendly helpful staff, close to plenty of shops and laundries, well equipped kitchen with plenty of plates, pans etc and a lot of fridge space Cold building, water pressure not great, WiFi temperamental
- Chris_aroundtheworld (8/5): Very good -
- Sorcha (7/5): Good - Lovely communal areas, hot showers Rooms were very cold
- Alison (7/5): Good - The hostel is in a nice quiet location and the owner is friendly and helpful. He provided me with plenty of blankets for the cold room. The kitchen is nice and breakfast was included which was great! I stayed in the winter and the room was very cold as the house seems to be poorly insulated. The bathrooms also weren't very clean.
- Kotoe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simona (10/5): Home! - Another stay another review! It was like going back home!
I don't have much to add! It's great, best price and deal!
I met again great people here, we spent weeks all together. Actually with the excuse of the Christmas holidays we spent some time also with the owner, Sergio is a great fun guy!
We had a great Christmas dinner all together :D
Quiet and calm place, nice beds and warm blankets! No problem with the hot water, just don't take the shower all together!!
Breakfast is incl! The patio is full of stories!! Hot with the sun but enough blankets for the cold nights!
5 min from San Pedro market and 2 min from the first cheap nice restaurant! The taxi can leave you just in front of the door, better than most hostel in San Blas
What else... I wish I could stay longer, they know I would probably move there 😂 it's hard to leave!
Lockers available and a covered living room with tv, books, playstation! -
- Danny (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely affordable hostel, free breakfast you do have to prepare it yourself but for me that's no issue. Working clean kitchen, WiFi what reaches in the room and hot water in the showers. Sergio is a top guy always on hand to answer any questions I needed answering. I had no issues at all here.
- Hisham (9/5): recommended for chill environment - A chill and layed-back atmhosphere at the hostel
- Prem (10/5): Exceptional - ..just super!...you can come to here and check it by yourself... :)
- Krzysztof (8/5): Very good - Small complementary breakfast.
Helpful stuff. Allowed us to leave luggage while we did a 5 day trek. Also we had night bus and did not mind us staying in common area few hours we had to kill hot water was only warm if any other used in the same time. Better to use in early morning.
The rooms are without heating, so it gets cold
- Helen (7/5): Good - It was cold, took extra blankets. One window of the toilet door was damaged so it was a bit uncomfortable to have shower ( because the outside could see everything inside).
I would pay a bit extra for a closer place to the centre, specially because it gets a bit tiring going back to the hostel after a whole day out
- Marina (9/5): Probably the best deal in town - Clean, cheap, spacious rooms around open courtyard, comfy beds, NO bunks! Well equipped kitchen, lockers, hot showers, free basic breakfast but with two eggs pp. Walk everywhere, Mercado just down the street
- Gun (10/5): Exceptional - Great place to meet new people Bathrooms
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Nice relaxing hostel. Thanks Sergio you have a very nice manner and friendly helpful way. I moved from another hostel across town and it made a huge difference to my outlook of Cusco.
I stayed a couple of nights here did the Inca trail, came back , did 4 days Spanish lessons before moving on. Could have stayed and done more if I had more time.
- Michael (9/5): Good basic backpackers hostel - Easy going backpackers hostel. Sergio is friendly and helpful. The hostel has a rustic charm. Self serve breakfast. Value for money No complaints
- Andrew (7/5): Good stay for the price - Cool theme, breakfast Small bathrooms, shower water temperature was fluctuating a lot
- Rifaat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Milena (10/5): Exceptional - Stuff was very helpful
- Simona (9/5): Lovely Stay - I really learned to love this hostel and the people around during my stay helped to get the best from this hostel!
It's lovely, the rooms are quiet big and really simple, the dorms have single beds with a lot of blankets! There are some closet and plugs but not table lamp and it wasn't an issue.
The hostel is quiet clean, there are few toilets outside the rooms, toilet paper and showers. You need your own shampoo and shower gel, they also rent towels if you need. Showers are warm but not if more than one person is using it!
Always check if there is running water before to get into the shower, if not, just inform the staff!
Gina, Daniel and Sergio are super nice people, nice to talk with!
The patio is a great place to meet other travellers and I really made friends here. My short stay became of 2 weeks! It is super hot in the morning but there is also a common area always fresh with a tv, playstation, books, blankets and couches. Here you can also find lockers for your small documents and you need your own lock.
Felt really safe
Price is super great and a simple breakfast is included, you make your 2 own eggs and then you have bread, jam etc..
They gave me the number of a guy that organize tours and I did with them the 7 lagoons tour and Palcoyo and they were really good. Prices are like in the city so it's up to you.
I could store my luggages for free while i was gone for the Salkantay trek for almost a week.
Today I am leaving but it's hard to say goodbye!
In Cusco could be a lot to do so take your time. The location of the hostel is perfect, 5 min down you are at the San Pedro Market where you can find full manu per 7 soles! So I didn't really used the kitchen to cook proper food but it is available, with fridges where to keep your food and drink cold! Less than 15 min you are in the main square, from the street behind the hostel, 2 min walk you can get normal busses to move around or reach the main inca sites in the city!
- Michał (9/5): Superb - Very nice hostel, for decent price. as a traveller i had everything i needed. clean place and very helpful stuff! i liked everything
- Pierrick (9/5): Superb - Good value for the price, good breakfast, some place to chill, nice facilities, friendly staff
- Thiemo (4/5): Disappointing -
- Shona (4/5): Wouldn’t recommend unless your budget is extremely stretched - A cheap place to stay and decor was nice. There were lots of toilets/showers and the communal chill out spaces were good. There are free breakfast ingredients that you can cook yourself but in our opinion the kitchen was too dirty to use and we didn’t go back after the first day. The gas cooker was definitely a fire hazard and dangerous.
The floors are pretty haphazard with holes and spikes so be careful. The bedsheets and mattress were very tired, we used our sleeping bag liners during the stay. The rooms are not cleaned, even when staying for 5 days.
On check in the staff member just gave us our key and pointed upstairs, with no explanation about any facilites.
Finally the water went off completely from our final afternoon til the morning, sadly this was our last chance to shower before the Inca Trail which was extremely disappointing. No staff were around at the time to even talk to about it.
- Judith (10/5): Exceptional - Socialising with other guests
No barking dogs or street noises
We had warm showers :) Internet is not the best, everything is rather old and simple, but for the price you can't expect more
- Ido (8/5): Great value for money! - The hostel is located just 10 minutes walk from the center. Great value for money. The showers doesn't always have hot water at evenings.
- Yujie (9/5): Superb - Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Wifi is good. Good value. Toilets are not always clean.
- Jing (9/5): Superb - 10mins walk to San Pedro Market.
Staff are friendly, easy going.
A lot bathrooms so that you don't need to wait anytime.
- Ivan (9/5): Superb - The attention and location of the place It would be
- Zhen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zsanett (10/5): Exceptional - Digital nomads, hear me out!! There's good wifi all around the property, all day long, working smoothly and without any interruption.
The place also has a hot shower with good pressure.
Clean, quiet, friendly staff and nice bfast!
Absolutely worth the price!
- Samuraimacedonia (8/5): good hostel - Very nice hostel in the center of Cusco. Sergio was super nice and helpful with us, I could not recommend him more!
There is self service breakfast in the kithchen. Many bathrooms and showers, good wifi connection. It's a little cold inside the rooms, but we asked for one additional bed cover and with that we were never cold sleeping
- Tatiana (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff, cozy, peaceful, clean, nice vibe, 4 blankets in order to don’t feel cold For this price everything was just great!
- Noam (7/5): Meh. Can do better. - Rather cheap, private room. Quiet. Not THAT far from the center. Great staff. Shower was cold at times.
Had used condom on my floor. Only noticed after 2 days, so couldn't say it wasn't mine.
Room opens to the freezing patio.
Kitchen was usable, but no more.
Shower was small with no hangers.
- Kathrina (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jo (7/5): Has all the needed facilities. - Location, owner/manager
Cleanliness of the shared facilities
Includes breakfast but I only as it once as most trips require a very early start.
There’s a kitchen to use. The bathrooms and showers are not that close to the bedrooms. There was a lot of heavy smoking smell from the guests in the outside sitting area which is just outside the room. Can be noisy if the guests want to sit outside and chat and smoke until late in the night.
There were some confusion with my booking which resulted in me paying their standard rate and losing my genius discounts. There was also an error from their side on the check in times listed which they acknowledged they didn’t realise until I arrived and tried to check in.
- Christin (8/5): Very good - The hostel has a nice inner yard. The room was basic, but the bed was comfortable. Breakfast is included with eggs, marmalade, bread and butter. There was nothing inside the room to store clothes or anything else.
- Alexander (9/5): Would recommend - Stayed here on 3 different occasions when in Cusco, coming back from various trips. The fact I returned 3 times goes to show it's a good place to stay. Luggage storage is very handy, good included breakfast, hot showers most of the time (they are affected by other people showering or flushing toilets), location is walkable to centre of town. Staff are friendly, WiFi is decent and there's a kitchen you can use. Multiple bathrooms so never really have to wait for a toilet or shower to be free. The price is great and very good value for money. For the price you can't really complain. It doesn't feel the cleanest of places - every morning the bathroom bins are overflowing with paper (they should get bigger bins) and the kitchen and bedrooms are not luxurious but again it matches the price. Bedrooms all go out onto an external courtyard so going to bathroom at night was very cold, and people talk outside in the smoking area late at night or early morning (eg 4am for rainbow mountain or salkantay pick up) and don't have consideration for people sleeping - not really the hostels fault, more depends on the guests.
- Jonathan (9/5): Good experience! - The people there were totally friendly, and the owner was totally respectful and does his best to have the place clean, I also like the breakfast, you serve for yourself and all the plates are there for your free use. I did not like much the bathrooms neither the toilet; they are apart from the rooms.
- Michael (10/5): A lovely place. - One of my favorite hostels in South America. The owner and employees are amazing and it’s perfect for socializing with other travelers.
- Rafaella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rafaella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julia (7/5): Good - The bed is very comfortable and the value for money is good. Free luggage storage. The hot water in the shower does what it want. It's either freezing cold or boiling hot and changes suddenly in between. The owner also claimed at first that I had paid one night too little. So I recommend to pay at the end to avoid discussions
- Flavio (7/5): Good - The place is nice, clean and close to the main market, the staff is kind and helpful, and for the money you pay is a good option Sometimes the internet in the room was not reliable, and since I was working it was not great
- Ozan (9/5): Superb - Sergio very good guy and help about everything. Location is great, big kitchen, clean shower and good hot water.
- Daena (1/5): Bad - I had a change of plans and had to leave the hostel a day earlier than my booking for the Machu Picchu tour. The hostel owner was very rude about it and tried to make me pay for the night that I wasnt staying. Then a few days later he saw me walking in the street and called me out and asked me to pay him again for a night I didnt stay. This was vrry rude and made me uncomfortable. This guy clearly does not know how to run a business or treat his customers well. I would NOT recommend staying here.
Then a few days later I was harrassed on whatsapp and called a "pussy" for making a review by the hostel owner...
- Sindre (7/5): Good -
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Constanze (5/5): Passable -
- Andrea (10/5): Great place to stay! - This is my second time at Rivendell and I’ve had a great time. The property is located near the main plaza and is very accessible. The staff is friendly and helpful, too. NA
- Akira (9/5): Superb -
- Jasmin (10/5): Exceptional - Good size rooms, lots of blankets provided so we were really warm and cosy. Hot showers. Breakfast in the morning till a decent time. The host is super friendly and helpful. We have booked to go back again :)
- Russell (9/5): Recommended! - Excellent host - friendly and helpful! Comfortable bed ( single, not bunk) WiFi okay, no waiting for showers, hot water, secure premises, lockers ( small ) quiet at night. I'd stay again! Creaky floor in dorm - you will probably wake up those who are sleeping!
- Antonia (10/5): Very nice hostel in good location - Super nice Hostel with very nice people working there! Our room was very spacious and there a lot of bathrooms that included a shower, sink and toilet each, like this we never had to wait for one to be free. The breakfast was self serve and good, and there is a mini market right across the street where we bought avocado and fruit for breakfast. The location in general is really nice, it is around a 10min walk to the plaza de armas, the main square, and less to get to the plaza San Francisco or the Market San Pedro.
- Amy (6/5): Cusco hostel...not the best - Let us store our luggage for a few days while we went hiking. A bit of a gross hostel, felt a bit unclean. Showers were cold, the kitchen was disgusting and it was quite noisy at night with big groups out in the courtyard. Not really near to anything either.
- Nathaniel (9/5): Superb -
- Nathaniel (9/5): Peaceful and magical rivendell - The hostel has a great vibe and is at a perfect distance of the center. A big plus to the hostel is Sergio. Sergio was an amazing host. He's always ready to help you figure out your next move in and around Cusco, and doing so with a big smile.
The hostel is social, but not noisy, and squeaky clean!
- Sian (3/5): I wouldn’t stay here again - Location-800m from the main plaza. The staff were nice. The toilets weren’t cleaned often enough, the bins were only emptied once a day or less which was gross.
The water was turned off one night without any reason or notice given by the staff.
The kitchen is gloomy and the equipment is all very old.
The common room also isn’t inviting and people smoked inside it.
The rooms were not cleaned well- I stayed in a dorm one night where there was rubbish left on a side table and a bed had not been changed yet and it was 8pm when I arrived. I moved to a private room and there was crumbs over the dressing table- not a huge deal but it showed nothing was wiped down.
