Guest Reviews
- Roger (10/5): Had a great time -
- Daniel (10/5): Absolutely fantastic 10/10 - The property was very clean, comfortable and spacious and also in a great location with everything you could possibly need on your doorstep š Leaving at the end of our stay
- Jenny (1/5): Sleepless - This isa lovely dear with lovely big rooms and beds DONT sea here on a Friday or Saturday night if you want to sleep - abovetheowners noisy pub with a 3am licence
- James (10/5): Amazingly spacious and well located apartment with fantastic hosts. - Wonderful apartment with lots of nice touches and so much space we nearly got lost in there. Darren & Sally have put a lot of thought and care into the set up and it was immaculately clean and organised.
Amazing hosts who are friendly and welcoming with great communication before the visit and great conversation while we spent time in the pub.
Locating in centre of Brecon with nearby municipal parking options (very reasonably priced based on my recent experience of hotel parking charges)
Great place to use as a base for exploring the stunning countryside.
Located above the Rorke's Drift pub, which by day is a friendly place with a good spread of welcoming, chatty locals and a wonderful team behind the bar.
The pub is a local night spot, so be aware of what events are on at the pub when you're planning (especially if your looking for a quiet, early night). The noise does travel up through the apartment so pack appropriately and/or bring your dancing shoes.
Loved playing "spot the kookaburra" around the apartment.
Can't wait to go back (but definitely for a midweek stay again) We loved our stay

- Jasiura (10/5): - Very clean, Good location with everything that you need for a family stay. Nothing to complain.
- Jillian (9/5): i stayed for business, it was excellent and i would recommend anyone to stay here - a really comfy and cosy stay, would use this again in the future the wifi was not the best, but it is only a small gripe
- Julie (9/5): -
- Paul (4/5): Loud, disappointing, zero sleep. - Central location, very comfortable and chic Apartment is above the busiest, noisiest sports puns that turns into a disco bar until 3am.
Predominantly young, male, beer guzzling lads, need I say anymore.
The pub / apartment backs onto the rear of Brecons second noisiest pub and a takeaway pizza place, so the party goes on way past 3am on a Saturday and Sunday.
Impossible to sleep, seriously impossible.
- Adam (10/5): -
- Gavin (6/5): Nice enough flat but VERY NOISY from the pub below on Thursday & Friday nights (1.30/2.00 am!). - Decent location, nice spacious flat, warm and comfortable. 'Some noise on weekends' from the pub below it says in the blurb......make that a 1.30/2am music finish on Thursday & Friday with booming bass making sleep impossible!
- Wendy (5/5): Lovely apartment, the noise at night ruined it though. - The apartment is beautifully presented and very well equipped. Beds are very comfortable. The location is described as quiet, which it may well be during the day, but at night it is exceptionally noisy. The ear plugs were a nice touch, but did nothing to drown out the very loud noise that lasted until 2am on Friday and 3am on Saturday. If youāre away to go out until these hours, the apartment is great, but we were there to walk sadly so it spoilt the trip for us as we were so tired.
- Tony Saxby 2023 (5/5): Perfect if you stay out all night.. - The actual place was amazing , really comfortable and clean . It's above a pub and another opposite literally out the window. if you want to sleep before 2am you have no chance. The music is so loud and people are outside drinking and shouting all night. Friday And Saturday hardly slept.
- Julie (10/5): Lovely place really spacious, large bedrooms, well equipped kitchen, nice bathroom and very clean. Great location - What gem of a place, all home comforts, very clean, lovely beds and linen, really spacious. Owner contactable for any questions. Location excellent, right in the centre of Brecon. Would definitely stay again. It does get noisy on a Saturday night (music night) as over pub but location makes up for this. Weād been to a wedding so we were tired and easily slept through noise. Parking was a bit hard to find but once weād found it no problem.
- SKTL (9/5): - Family of 4 adults had so much space.
Comfortable,clean and cosy stay.
Perfect location for town and easy to park.
Great ,helpful and fast comms with owner.
- Donna (8/5): - Everything! The apartment is very lovely, extremely comfortable and very very clean. There were little extras provided that were really thoughtful and appreciated. As the apartment is directly above a very busy, lively pub, the noise does transfer upstairs, but that wouldn't stop me from returning.

- Carol (10/5): Would highly recommend for travellers. Very comfortable, clean and spacious. - Very clean, spacious, comfortable beds, very well equipped kitchen including Nespresso machine, fridge and freezer section. Location was centre of Brecon. Beautiful town to explore and not far to travel to places of adventure including Pen Y Fan, Hay on Wire and caves. Canāt say there was anything we didnāt like. It was a great place.
- Graham (6/5): Pleasant - Nice spacious centrally located apartment. Over a very lively pub. Friday night managed to get to sleep by about half past midnight, but Saturday night was VERY loud (as in the headboard was vibrating!) until 3am Sunday morning. I should have studied more reviews before booking as we were there for what I expect are the two noisiest nights of the week. Shame - on a midweek stay it's probably fine.
- Debbie (9/5): Superb -
- Ricky (9/5): Really lovely place and would highly recommend. - Amazing place in a great location with everything you could need under one roof. It can get noisy with the pub below, but weāre all adults so not a problem.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cole (8/5): Very good - Spacious comfortable property with loads of character. The furniture and beds are all really comfy. It's in a perfect position in the middle of Brecon. Lots of nice welcome touches, milk in the fridge for instance. Really appreciated all the leaflets, recommend nature walks in Brecon for some great walks on the doorstep. We weren't disturbed at all by noise from the pub downstairs. Could not find the coasters but that might have been us.
- Heidi (10/5): Fantastic place - a real hidden gem! - Fabulous little place in the middle of town There was a bit of noise from the pub below in the evening but nothing too bad and we knew it was above a pub before we stayed.
- Mister (7/5): Good - Beautiful lodge, very comfortable and spacious Unfortunately a pub downstairs really loud DJ until early hours on Friday and Saturday , they supplied ear plugs! I'd avoid at weekends if you like quiet.
- Julie (9/5): Great property in a great location with great host. - Kookaburra is a lovely, spacious and well equipped property right in the middle of Brecon and 5 mins from the beacons. . We used it as a base for climbing Pen Y Fan and loved it so much we booked an extra night! Brecon is great - good selection of shops and pubs. We even found a gym Darren the host is brilliant. Super responsive, friendly and helpful. All in all we can't recommend the experience highly enough. All good.
- Rachel (7/5): Read full reviews - Lovely apartment, host was very helpful, wish I had read reviews properly though. amazing place if it were located somewhere else. Fine if you are hard of hearing. The pub/club noise till 3am
- Gillian (10/5): Lovely - Excellent town centre location, lovely comfortable beds and plenty of space and entertainment. Nothing - as described.
- Joanne (10/5): Exceptional - My first time staying at the kookaburra Lodge we stayed as we attended a wedding. The apartment is decorated the highest standard, beds were really comfy the added extras were a bonus, The host Darren went above and beyond to help you would definitely return and recommend thank you again Darren for a wonderful stay There was nothing to not like at the property every thing is to a high standard
- Dawn (10/5): Exceptional - Fab central location, beautifully furnished and comfortable n N/A
- Aqeem (9/5): Superb - Amazing locarion and beautifully set up place. Had all the amenities and more. Beds were super comfy. We had three people, but it could house more than that. Lovely reaponsive host. It was New Year's Eve and the property is on top of a pub. It was loud (you can feel the vibrations from the speakers downstairs) and the party went until nearly 3am. The earplugs provided by the host has been helpful. Understandable that this is out of the host's control, but just bear in mind about this when booking during holiday season.
- Flatt7 (7/5): Nice large space, but only for party animals on Saturday! - Nice comfortable space, lots of places to relax, well set up bedrooms for people. Warmed up well and was a lovely little base.
Bathroom was comfortable and warm, good amenities. Nice shower, some shampoo, etc were provided.
Smart TV linked to apps.
Comms from owner were great and friendly. Saturday is a disco downstairs (maybe on Friday too) - the floors shake with bass until 3am on Sunday morning. You cannot ignore it. Take it into account!
There is no hob, repeat no hob or saucepans. In its place the owner provided a couple of other standalone cooking gadgets as well as a microwave which made do in a pinch but cooking dry pasta from scratch was fairly impossible. Luckily we brought some fresh pasta.
One of the main windows in the lounge is missing a blind.
- Kevin (9/5): The accommodation was perfect for our needs and a great base to explore the area. - A very well appointed property which had many little details that enhanced our stay. For example the decor was pleasing, the kitchen was laid out for us with milk in the fridge and tea and coffee facilities including an excellent pod coffee machine. Other features included phone chargers cables dotted around, vouchers for a free drink in the pub below and there were towels and products for use in the bathroom.
The accommodation was well located for our weekend walking in the hills as well as easy access to Brecon town centre for restaurants, bars and shops.
All in all the property was perfect for our stay. Thank you Darren! There was a lot of noise from the pub below until the early hours particularly on Saturday night.
- Sam (6/5): don't stay here on a weekend or a - the apartment was nice ,clean and spacious beds were well comfy and location is good I wouldn't recommend staying here on a weekend as it looks like just a pub but at the weekend it's was like the town night club, music went on til early in the morning and was so loud also people screaming and shouting mainly full of young people and the next morning waking up to sick outside wernt the nicest
- Richard (9/5): Great location, friendly staff and a free drink in the pub was a bonusš - Clean, tidy and good location Noise from pub below, although ear plugs in we didnāt notice.
- Ankush (10/5): Great Hospitality and spacious rooms - Hospitality - Darren is a great host, popular among the locals and the house is very warm and welcoming with play station, board games, creative decor and spacious rooms.
Location - Very convenient to reach pen-y-fan and fan-fawr even with the bus. Direct bus from Abergavenny train station.
- Marianne (5/5): Nice accommodation but sadly itās very loud and shouldnāt be rented out over the weekend! - Quirky little flat with space and clean Windows are very thin they rattled in the wind. Noise from pub below is beyond loud and people out chatting in the street. Not good for a 5 year old to try and sleep. We left a day early due to noise so a complete waste of our money
- Huw (10/5): very good accommodation and a very nice place - brilliant location
- David (9/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks. - Fantastic location. Everything was great.
- Smith (6/5): Amazing find but ruined by no sleep (at least over weekends) - The apartment was great, location was perfect , the pub below was friendly and helpful , perfect except ā¦. The pub turns into a night club Friday and Saturday , till 3am , the noise is excruciatingly loud , even though they supply war plugs š¬
- Lisa (4/5): Clean and tidy but not a place to stay for those who want to sleep at the weekend due to location. - The accommodation was clean and tidy. The accommodation was opposite a pub which turned into a night club. Friday and Saturday night music didnāt stop until 3 am. Ear plugs provided, these did not shut out noise. No one got to sleep which impacted on our stay
- Dawn (10/5): Lovely break - Everything, great location and hosts, super comfortable Nothing to fault
- Paul (5/5): Passable - Property has a great location clean and tidy with all facilities and easy access to town, limited parking however we stayed in bridge street carpark over the weekend Although the Pub (Rorkes Drift) serves a good Guinness all the Music speakers are strategically placed under all bedrooms in Kookaburra Lodge limiting sleep until midnight/ 1am so not advisable with small children wanting a quite weekend break. However if you are up for the nightlife you are into a winner
- Angie (9/5): Superb -
- John (9/5): Great apartment, very pleased with the accommodation. - It was a lovey apartment,
Quirky and lots of space Nothing really
- Davenport (9/5): A great find, and we will certainly be back to stay again. Thank you to Darren for a great stay! - Fabulous flat, big airy rooms, plenty of space for 6 adults. Altogether a great base for Brecon, and the surrounding area. There was no parking next to the property, but there are a number of small carparks within a 2 minute walk. I would also say to take into account that this is a big flat above a thriving pub, and though mid week there was absolutely no noise, I imagine on a weekend it could be slightly livelier.
- Elizabeth (7/5): Beware of arriving on Saturday night! - Lovely spacious apartment clean, comfortable, tasteful and well appointed. Used an air fryer for the first time so learnt something new.
There were books, local information and free drinks vouchers which we liked, the location in Brecon was central so driving wasn't necessary. Having a cinema across the road was handy too. When we arrived on the Saturday night we didn't expect the pub downstairs to be open until 3am Sunday morning. It was very noisy with pounding music and a loud crowd of revellers.
Other nights were fine.
Some of the windows facing the main road rattled and appeared to need repairs.
