Guest Reviews
- Kristin (10/5): Wonderful pension close to ski resort - The property is at a great location— just 5 minutes walking to the lowest lift for Suginohara ski resort. It’s a little far from the train station, but they offer pickup and drop off. But the best part of the pension is the lovely husband and wife couple who run it. They are incredibly kind and helpful—they drove us to the ski resort the first morning and got us discounts on lift tickets and rentals. Each evening we enjoyed a nice bath and had the most amazing home cooked meals! The rooms were simple but clean. Floor mattresses rather than regular tatami for extra padding. Traditional Japanese bean bag pillows but it was fine. This pension represents everything wonderful about rural Japan and if you have a chance to stay here definitely take it! That we couldn’t stay longer

- Chs Tsn (8/5): A wonderful family pension for a countryside ski holiday with great on site dining options - A lovely traditional family style pension, a warm and donations dining area and located at walking distance of Suginosawa town and loca skil lift The rural environment makes this a favorite for families and fans of qiuet, homestyle vacations. Plan ahead if you like to visit nearby towns or shops
- Georgina (10/5): Perfect stay in Myoko. - What a wonderful and memorable stay! I absolutely loved the host family. They are so kind and make you feel at home. You can walk to skiing from the property. The town is small but has a simple onsen, a few restaurants, and shuttles to other Myoko resorts. I recommend getting the daily breakfast at the property and the dinner is incredible and better value than anything you will get in town.

- Walker (10/5): Outstanding place to stay in every way - hosts, food, location, and rooms. Would love to go back! - We had a lovely stay, our best few nights whilst visiting Japan. The hosts were incredible and went out of their way many times to make sure we were enjoying our time with them. The food was outstanding. We were served many different and excellent Japanese dishes. The small on-site Onsen is perfect after a long day on the slopes. Brilliant location about 5 minutes from Myōkō Suginohara Ski Resort. Everything was great. There's nothing I could say here.

- López (9/5): - The area was beautiful and relaxing — far from noise, surrounded by forest, yet easily accessible by car. We visited during autumn, and the mountains and trees were covered in stunning shades of red, orange, and yellow. The food was delicious, and despite our dietary restrictions, everything was perfectly accommodated. The futon was very comfortable, and we slept wonderfully each night. The ofuro was also prepared for us every evening.
We had an amazing stay. Thank you so much, Kaoru-san and Shinri-san — you made our visit a truly lovely and restful experience.
- Stu (9/5): Superb - The proprietors are super friendly and helpful, and the food was wonderful! They went above and beyond to help me when I had trouble at the ski resort.
- Oxana (9/5): Very pleasant stay in a cosy cottage with the best owners - Cosy cottage with the most hospitable and kind owners! They were really sweet and ready to help with anything and gave us discounts for the ski passes and onsen, which was very nice. Convenient location, easy walk to the ski lift. Tasty breakfast Everything was great! Maybe just the cushion was a bit hard for me, but overall everything great
- Timberlake (10/5): memorable in a good way - It was Quiet and very much in Japanese style, The owners were friendly and helpful. Situated close to a good snow field/ resort. The town was limited on places for food for dinners.
- Karen (10/5): Perfect for our needs, lovely couple, very helpful and if heading back will definitely rebook - Breakfasts and meals we had were great, very tasty and plenty of it. The location was perfect for our stay which was close to family and facilities in the area
- Cameron (10/5): Warm welcomeing owners who greet you with welcomeing smiles. They made me feel like I was in my own home - Nice and cosy house situated close to Suginohara
- Kaocheng (10/5): Amazing! Definitely recommend - The location is good, you can go to the ski resort by walking.
The owner is very helpful, and the meals are super great. Highly recommended The room is not big
- Blackstar_ (8/5): Very good - Excellent Location, Fantastic Food and Superb Snow.
- Samuel (10/5): Great, beautiful, clean and authentic place to stay in Myoko. - One of the best accommodations we had in our 2 month trip in Japan! The extremely kind host couple looked after us, provides skiing discount tickets and overall provides an awesome, authentic Japanese experience. Walking distance to Suginohara ski resort. In-house Japanese breakfast and dinner is delicious and nutritious, too. Would definitively return when coming back to Myoko. Thanks a lot! -
- Andrew (10/5): Best in many many many years - People, food, service all excellent Nothing
- Oliver (10/5): Amazing hosts. Great resort. Delicious dinners!! - Location was near Suginohara resort.
Close to bus stop for access to other resorts.
The hosts were just so amazing. And their dinners were the best we had…so delicious. Bus was a little pricey but we didn’t have a car so it worked.
- Maximillian (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were amazing. Went above and beyond the entire time we stayed and really felt welcomed into their accommodation. Before asking they were always offering to help us get to where we needed and were overall the most hospitable stay we've had in Japan. Breakfast was very tasty and generous and you get a lot of really good tasting food for the price you pay, bother for dinner and breakfast. Couldn't be more happy with our stay. Only nitpick is the pillow was quite hard, however didn't influence how we felt about our overall stay at all.
- Lachie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zamar (10/5): Incredible, authentic, heart-warming experience - We had the most incredible experience at Folklore Pension. We absolutely adored the owners, Kaoru-san and Shinri-san. Kaouru was so kind and would often offer to drive us to the station if we needed and pick us up. She told us about her favorite aspects of the area and took us to a really cute nature reserve/lake near the house where we learned about all the cool wildlife in the area and got to see salamanders!! They built their bed and breakfast themselves 40 years ago and it shows as it is so beautifully decorated with details of their loved ones and travels, you can really feel how much love and heart has been put into their home. Almost every night we paid 2500 yen each for dinner and as Shinri-san, the husband, is an incredible chef the meals were always WAY above and beyond. Absolutely incredible quality ingredients, amazing portions, gorgeous presentation, different, authentic and imaginative meals every single night. From hand-made sushi platters to Udon-like soups and steak and incredible pork and fish dishes Shinri-san's talent and generosity never ceased to amaze us. The dining room was also decorated in such a sweet way with many instruments and beautiful, cozy details. They always play the beatles vinyl records as we ate and had an impressive supply of different types of japanese beverages to try if we wanted like sake, japanese wine, or nagano apple juice. They also have breakfast which Kauru-san made us each morning. Always incredible omelets with miso soup and other wonderful dishes and salad. Often different kinds of meats and always the option of rice or toast with our meals. Another incredible detail that we loved was the little homemade stone onsen in the bathroom, always filled with relaxing hot water after a long day. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and also significantly bigger than anything we had experienced prior in japan. There's a beautiful park just a short walk away next to a river.
- Aurora (10/5): Exceptional - We had a lovely stay. We were looked after very well by the owner. Very comfortable and had everything we needed!
- Leo (10/5): Gaku and his parents were amazing hosts. Definitely willing to go visit them again. - Amazing people, amazing food, amazing place.
- Kirsty (8/5): Cozy place with good food and kind staff! - Family owned and run property, we felt so at home and very welcomed! Father is a chef and it shows, the dinner and breakfast was amazing! And easy after a long day of snowboarding. Very kind people, location was also not bad, chair lift not too far away. We enjoyed our time here and it was cozy!
- Leo (10/5): I really enjoyed my stay at Pension FOLKLORE. I will definitely come back. Thanks to all the staff. - It only takes 5 minutes to reach lift chair 2 when skiing at Myoko Suginohara Ski Resort. The meals are delicious, and the staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. NOT MUCH
- Ross (6/5): Overpriced and dated. Okay enough but wouldn’t return - Very close to ski fields. Good breakfast -although
It cost extra Very expensive for what you get. Very short beds, small rooms and very dated.
- Milan (9/5): Superb -
