Guest Reviews
- Candida (9/5): Homely comfortable caring and good location for Burghley and Peterborough short drive 10 mins you wi - Paul and Crystal were extremely welcoming nothing was too much trouble a great effort made to make us feel at home room large bed very comfortable and all extremely clean
- daphne (7/5): B&B a few minutes drive to any facilities. Knew this when booking. Hotels in Stamford were too pricey. Ideal compro - Large room
Lovely breakfast
Friendly owners
- John (5/5): Place was a bit run down inside and out. - Breakfast was good the host was very friendly. Mattress needed changing as you could feel the springs, fortunately it was really hot so we slept on the quilt.
- Margaret (6/5): - The hosts were excellent as was the breakfast. Very untidy outside. Decor needs some updating.
- Steven (8/5): Hosts could not have tried harder to make our stay comfortable - Toilet flush and shower water pressure.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good Breakfast, pleasant staff, clean, big room, cumfy bed.Shower small and everything a bit dated. But for the cost good - Location for us The Grounds were very neglected and rundown. Some room lights not working. Unfortunately there boiler broke so no hot water in the morning. They offered a discount
- Mrs (7/5): Convenient for the next day's activities. Friendly welcome. - Location is ideal for visiting Burghley House and Stamford. Crystal produced breakfast in very welcoming manner. Arrival was easy and very friendly. I would have liked to have been able to specify what I wanted to eat. We were asked what sort of eggs we liked when we arrived, but I was faced with a huge plate, including baked beans which I don't want at breakfast. I hate waste, particularly of food. This was offputting. It would be better to ask guests if they want two of everything.
I have marked down the cleanliness aspect because the bathroom bin had not been emptied.
- Jamie (10/5): Will most definitely keep in mind for future bookings - Amazing property and very good location very homely and facilities were excellent
Both hosts were amazing went above and beyond
Breakfast was brilliant should’ve booked for an extra night
- Jenny (9/5): Overall a lovely stay - Both Paul & Crystal were really friendly and super helpful, the room itself was huge, immaculately kept. As another review mentions, you are essentially staying in the host's own home but you would hardly know they are there, very unobtrusive. The breakfast was lovely and both were attentive to ensure we were happy with our food. Although the hot tub/jacuzzi was available we didn't use this so can't comment on it. Overall a pleasant stay in a quiet/country location.
- Abdul (10/5): Leisure break! - Excellent accomodation, spacious room with a nice kitchen with everything one would need!
- Mark (10/5): Fantastic - Although living in the same house, we were met on arrival, breakfast time we met Crystal for the first time, and when leaving Paul came out to wish us well, other than that, we never seen them…. Anyone going Stamford for the night, check this cracker out…
Paul & Crystal thank you so much,

- Ken (7/5): OK but there a more friendly places at a lot less charge - Hot water was a dribble, bar prices were a rip off
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Great hot tub great people Found a used condom behind the drawers in the bedroom when I plugged my phone on charge🤔
- Eugene (9/5): Friendly hosts and quiet surroundings. - Friendly, helpful hosts. They gave us the dining room facilities, so we could eat our own food for an evening meal. Quiet, private surroundings.
We were given a truly warm welcome. The location is not convenient if you want to walk out and have a meal or a drink.
- Nick (8/5): Great two nights very comfortable and Paul is a great host and singer - Quirky and different
- Brian (10/5): A wonderful country B&B - The Thornleigh House is beautiful and a lovely country location Paul & Crystal made sure I had the directions perfectly. Paul the perfect host, even provided me a beer to relax from my journey... totally not expected but welcomed I couldn't stay longer
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely room and personal touches. The bed was so comfortable, bathrobes and slippers were a great extra. Paul was very welcoming and a very friendly, lovely gentleman. The breakfast was delicious. My husband was taking part in the Burghley House multi sport weekend and it was a great location for this...only a few minutes drive from Burghley House. Would highly recommend.
- Mark (8/5): Friendly and convenient - Paul was very friendly and the breakfast was very good
- Hannah (10/5): Home from home, a very friendly, relaxing stay. - Our room was spacious and it was all so clean with lovely little touches. Paul was a wonderful host and couldn’t do any more for us at all, I briefly met Crystal who was really sweet and we were made to feel really at home during our stay and the hosts were very tentative to our allergies and dietary requirements for breakfast.
Hot tub was also a great way to end the day and I would certainly recommend Thornleigh House to anyone thinking of staying.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional hospitality, a lovely place and amazing hosts - Hospitality was absolutely great, from being greeted on arrival to setting up the spa bath with complimentary wine on ice, to even asking how we wanted our eggs in the morning. Lovely family and really accommodating. We were warned there was a little bit of refurbishment going on but wasn't an issue at all, the whole house was very clean not just our room. Will definitely be staying again. There wasn't anything we feel we could fault
- Leighann90 (3/5): We didn’t stay as didn’t feel safe - We paid to have a hot tub but we didn’t see one!
The room doors don’t lock and there was key stuck in the door from the outside
The bathroom was very dark no lights near the shower
- Anonymous (9/5): Paul was a fantastic host we would definitely stay there again - Lovely big clean room
- Heidi (8/5): Lovely stay, great for people who love the personal touch and not your typical chain hotels - Paul and crystal friendly and welcoming
Lovely size bedroom and bathroom
- J (10/5): Good value for money. Convenient location. - Paul was a great host. He had a glass of fizz ready for us in the jacuzzi. The breakfast was very good, too! Could do with some outside lighting.
- Peter (9/5): Superb - Clean, quiet and friendly people.
- Andrea (8/5): Was perfect for what we needed - Friendly and helpful host. Quiet and comfortable
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carl (8/5): Perfect - Very friendly, welcoming hosts, went the extra mile, even with a glass of wine each, I would highly recommended this property, lovely family, even drove to the local eatery so we could find the way, asked what we wanted for breakfast, how we wanted our eggs and so on Tiny, minimal thing, for us only, I would have liked a lock and key on our room door, only on the basis of you always like to insure your property is always 100% secure, not that we were left concerned by such a lovely family, it’s just a extra assurance
- Angela (10/5): Fantastic in every way - Another great stay at Thornleigh House and just as clean and comfortable as we remembered. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. Paul and Crystal looked after us really well and we enjoyed some lovely extras including a glass of wine to add to our relaxation in the hot tub, a very special breakfast and even a tasty treat to take home.
Thank you.
- Josh (8/5): Very good -
- Rob (10/5): Very comfortable and Paul was amazing - The room was so big and so was the bathroom
Parking no problem and room facilities great . Large kettle and very good internet . Breakfast was fantastic a full English to start the day Nothing
- Lisa (6/5): Pleasant - Spacious room with use of the hot tub. Complementary glass of wine provided by the host when using the hot tub. Dressing gown and slippers provided. Good communication via text before and during our visit. Good parking. Comfortable nights sleep with clean bedding. Lighting very dim downstairs. Couldnt get the shower next to the hot tub to work. The room was spacious with plenty of wardrobe space. Lock on bedroom door difficult to use. Had to leave the door open when we went downstairs. Tried to have a shower but the shower head fell to bits. Tried to get a wash in the sink but there was no plug. Wire hanging out of the wall where a light should have been. Toilet roll holder broken.
- Angela (10/5): We will definitely return. - The location was ideal for our purposes. Paul and Crystal were extremely welcoming and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The accommodation was lovely and clean and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
- Edyta (10/5): Great hospitality - Space!
- Nathan (10/5): Very welcoming and hospitable. Friendly hosts. Went over and above to make me feel at home. - Very welcoming and hospitable. Friendly hosts. Went over and above to make me feel at home.

- Anonymous (8/5): Good location, lovely welcome and superb breakfast 🍳 - Paul and Crystal were extremely accommodating and so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Our only issue was the double mattress which was very uncomfortable and probably needs replacing. The springs dug into our back and it was not the best night sleep we have had. Other than that we were very pleased 😀 Mattress was the only downside
Needs replacing
- Colm (10/5): Exceptional - Paul went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The hot tub was lovely and breakfast was 10/10. Will definitely visit again.
