- Ramesh (8/5): - Comfortable,clean and warm reception &
immediate attention to our problems

- Shreya (10/5): A Cozy Stay with Exceptional Hosts - The homestay is centrally located and well-connected to all major sites, which made getting around extremely convenient. It has a quaint charm and is run by a lovely family of four who were incredibly warm and accommodating throughout my stay. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast and beverages, they were thoughtfully prepared and delicious.
Additionally, the hosts went out of their way to let me use an extra room to rest after checkout until my train time, which I truly appreciated. Overall, an excellent place to stay and highly recommended for solo female travelers. NA
- Duncan (8/5): Highly recommended homestay - Hosts were very friendly and helpful, notably with organizing a tuktuk tour to visit all the main sights, and with a taxi to the airport. The bucolic setting and surroundings are lovely under the trees, very relaxing. Simple rooms with large comfy bed and good air conditioning (critically!). We really enjoyed our stay here No dinner cooked onsite but the take-away delivery was very tasty

Niets

- Kavita (8/5): - It was a nice stay. Room was clean, close to all the attractions. Staff was helpful. They even helped to extend our stay at another location though we checked out already Shower was not working properly

- thomas (5/5): OK stay despite several mixups with booking dot com reservation - The homestay is located outside the main Hampi Bazar area so it is quiet and restufl. The family is nice and helpful. The young man who served us and cleaned the rooms was always polite and helpful. Unfortunately we had several problems probably linked to errors in the booking.com reservation. We had a reservation for a room with balcony, but after two days we had to change rooms. We also lerned that several other guests had to change rooms in the middle of their stay. The owner did send us a short email prior to our stay say we booked 'downstairs' but on arrival we had a room upstairs for two nights. Strange. Also, the reservation clearly stated breakfasts were 100 rupees per person per day but we paid twice that amount (1200 rupees for six breakfasts instead of 600 rupees). Maybe the booking.com info had not been updated - don't know. Very minor things but annoyances nevertheless. Our second room was in need of updating. Just to be clear, we know that this is a homestay and I've been to India seven times and have stayed in multiple homestays so I do have a good benchmark. I hope my comments will help the owners improve and make this homestay a more enjoyable experience without the hassles we had.
- Rochelle (10/5): A great place to stay when visiting Hampi - A lovely stay in a quiet, peaceful compound very close to Hampi's main sites. The room was clean, comfortable and private, with excellent air conditioning. The home cooked meals (breakfast and one dinner) were delicious. The hosts were so kind, helpful and accommodating. They arranged for a knowledgable guide who spoke excellent English, and would have arranged transportation if needed. It was a very congenial atmosphere, and I felt very safe and cared for as a solo female traveler. I wouldn't hesitate to return if I were to visit Hampi again. All was good!
- William (10/5): A recommander vivement !!!
- Uwe (8/5): Sehr freundliche Gastgeber in guter Lage.
- wicksteed (8/5): Much enjoyable - Well located to reach major attractions by tuk tuk. We actually walked one way but it's a bit far for most toùrists.
Very good home cooked food and easy to chat with other guests.
Nothing Nothing major
- Michael (10/5): Awesome - Very friendly and helpful
- Klaus Juergen (10/5): A unique and heartfelt stay filled with warmth, stories, and unforgettable charm. - I came across this place on Booking.com and was instantly intrigued — it was described as unusual, and the photos certainly piqued my curiosity. My expectations were not only met but beautifully exceeded.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by our hosts, Ramu and his wife Khavita, and immediately felt at home. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy.
Ramu is a natural storyteller — he shared with us tales from his life, his work, his village, and his deep love for theatre. Through his stories, we discovered new and fascinating sides of India that we hadn’t experienced before.
We only wish we could have stayed longer. Everything — the room, the breakfast, the atmosphere — was simply perfect.
This is not just a place to stay; it’s an experience. Highly recommended to anyone looking for something truly special.
With warm thanks,
Christine, Thomas & Jürgen
- Alastair (9/5): Excellent hosts and relaxed property close to the main attractions - The hosts were friendly, chatty and had lots of good tips. Location was peaceful and within walking distance of many of the attractions
Krishna was a superb tuk-tuk guide for the day to see all the temples Nothing
Wunderbar nette, hilfreiche Gastgeber. Home away from home. Thank you!
- gijs (8/5): Wonderful place with wonderful hosts. - Great hosts. Nice and peaceful location
- Stefanie (9/5): Very enjoyable stay. - We especially enjoyed our conversations with the owners, Mr. Shankar and Ms. Kavitha. They supported us with our requests and answered our questions tirelessly. Our room was big, clean and comfortable. The location, tugged a little away between the rice paddies, is very peaceful and ideal to explore Hampi using a mode of transportation such as a local auto rickshaw. We would certainly love to come back.
- Nicholas (10/5): Great value stay - Friendly owners, great location, very comfortable room. Highly recommend.
- Sarina (9/5): We had a fantastic time in Hampi which was aided by Kavita and Ramu. - The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Kavita and Ramu were extremely welcoming and helpful in organising a driver to aid us in seeing all the sights during our stay. Kavita also recommended restaurants for us to visit whilst in the area.
Breakfast was tasty.
- Peter (9/5): Wonderful welcoming homestay! - Ramu and Kavita were wonderful hosts! We felt welcomed from the start as they showed us our lovely room! They helped us organise a driver for the two days to see the sites in Hampi and sorted out food orders with the local restaurants for dinner. Breakfast was a delicious masala omelette and toast which was cooked in house. The home stay is set in beautiful greenery. Thanks for a wonderful time!
- Michael (8/5): Warm welcome in Hampi - Hosts gave us a warm welcome and made us feel at home. They were flexible and very understanding when we found all the ATMs were closed due to the festival. They arranged a guide who showed us around the area. They proved a good breakfast and cooked us dinner one night - delicious! . Our original room was not available but the substitute was fine.
- Lynne (10/5): Friendly, hospitable owners in an interesting location. - Set in a fascinating location, very friendly and interesting owners who couldn’t have been more hospitable. They freshly prepared our evening meals for us during our stay.
- Lydia (8/5): Very good -
- Eleanor (10/5): A very enjoyable base to visit Hampi and the surrounding area. - Lovely clean accommodation.
Very helpful owners and staff nothing was too much trouble.
The owners are caring and keen to share their knowledge of the area.
They have good links with the local services.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - Great homestay Ramu and his wife couldn't have been more helpful. Food was outstanding. Ramu is a great chef. Just be aware you need a car, or hire a motorbike or use the excellent Krishna, the house tuk tuk driver. Lovely guy. He took me to the motorway junction at midnight to try to find my overnight but which never came. He waited with me and took me home when we realised it wasn't coming. Nothing I can think of
- Fontaine (9/5): I can highly recommend staying at Shankar Homestay, you feel welcomed as old friends, and the place is very charming. - very friendly and welcoming hosts, excellent food, proximity to temples
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional - The food, the room, the staff, everything. Kavitha and Ramu treated us like we were old friends, rather than simply guests. Leaving
- Krishan (10/5): Highly recommend - We had a great time here at Shankar’s homestay. The hosts reached out in advance to ask if we would like help organising a rickshaw which they happily provided! We arrived very early and they were very accommodating and helpful. We were short for time and they helped lll us decide the best options for our limited time in hampi. The location of this homestay is perfect as it’s at the centre of all the core sites to see and very close to a lovely village called Anegundi which we explored renting bikes from a local shop near the homestay. Rooms were very spacious and clean. I would recommend this as your go to accommodation for your stay in Hampi! We can’t wait to visit again, thank you!
- Graeme (9/5): Superb - Really nice little pace
- Matthew (10/5): Overall excellent location, lovely surrounds and fantastic hosts. - Charming home stay set in lovely gardens, less than 10 minute walk to the village and around 2km from Hampi which is an easy cycle ride.
Your hosts are generous and warm, helping to organise activities and providing meals as well.
The room I stayed in was cool with ceiling fan working, it was sufficiently cool that AC wasn’t required by me but is available in the rooms if needed.
Overall excellent location, lovely surrounds and fantastic hosts. I would gladly stay again and extended my stay for a further three days after my initial three day booking was complete.
- Johanneke (10/5): Kavitha & Ramu provide a home, away from home - amazing hosts! - Love the location, ‘vibe’, quietness, in- and outdoorspace but especially appreciate the excellent care Kavitha and her husband provide for there guests. Loved all of it.
- Sagar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Subramanya (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (10/5): Great stay in a lovely homestay - Fabulous location, beautiful garden, really comfortable room, lovely host family, and good to meet other guests too. The terrace outside our room was wonderful and we loved the birdsong snd watching the monkeys playing. Kavita and team were so kind and made us feel completely at home. Her cooking is superb. Also big thanks to Krishna the tuk tuk driver - excellent driver and helped us when we mislaid something. Kavita and Krishna also arranged tours for us which were really good. Highly recommended.
- Balasubramanian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pamela (10/5): Exceptional - This is a really great place to stay everyone was so helpful. Would definitely stay again if I came back to Hampi.
- Helen (10/5): A perfect slice of peace in beautiful Hampi - A real little gem! Ramu and Kavitha couldn’t be more welcoming… the location is rural, peaceful, set in a beautiful garden… the rooms are big and airy, and clean. We had a room with a balcony which faced the garden and some massive boulders.
Ramu cooked an amazing curry for us on one night and Kavithas Dosas for breakfast were a real treat.. we were lucky to be there on a festival day which tied in with their son’s birthday. All the guests were invited to the party!
The house is a minute walk from Happy Hampi Restaurant which I’d also highly recommend.
Friend of the family Anji, took us around to see all of the sights in his Tuk Tuk.. he was such a lovely guide/person/driver.. would highly recommend. Nothing…
- Richard (10/5): Just perfect - Where to start, from the wonderful warm welcome to the moment we left Shankar was like a home from home. Kavitha and Rama are the perfect hosts and we will never forget the evenings we spent chatting to them in the garden. We were here 4 nights had breakfast everyday and 3 evening meals, the food is fantastic. Also need a special mention to Anji our guide to Hampi in his tuk tuk and a part of the family.
Don’t hesitate this place is something special Nothing
- Jon (10/5): Genuine care and consideration. A wonderful experience. - Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. It is a true experience and everyone went out their way to make our stay special and to help us with all our questions. Thank you for the wonderful food and the Tuk Tuk tours around Hampi.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Francine (10/5): Warm welcoming stay with the incomparable Kavita - Nothing is better in travel like the warm welcome we received from Kavita. She is a gem and hard to find in this world. We loved the vegetarian thali she made for dinner and couldn’t believe she did our laundry without charge. She created such a great atmosphere that it helped us connect with other travelers—A+ nothing
- Katja (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anil (8/5): Very good -
- Anil (8/5): Very good - The owner was friendly and willing to accommodate our needs. The breakfast was excellent. The ambience of the place was nice with a lot of trees. The location was ideal. The rooms were nice and large. The solar hot water didn't work well. We wish there was a bathing soap.
- Nikita (10/5): Wonderful Stay at Shankar Homestay, Hampi - We had an amazing experience staying at Shankar Homestay during our trip to Hampi. It’s one of the best homestays we’ve come across in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and the overall vibe.
The rooms were spotless, with beautiful interiors, soft and cozy bedsheets, comfortable blankets, and warm lighting. They even provided toiletries, which was a thoughtful touch. Everything felt well-maintained and worth every penny.
The outdoor area felt like a mini farmhouse—clean, peaceful, and with a charming village-like vibe. It was the perfect place to relax after exploring Hampi.
The hosts, Ramu and his wife Kavitha, were amazing. They were friendly, warm, and always ready to help, which made us feel right at home.
The location is great—away from the noisy tourist areas but just a 4-minute drive to all the main attractions in Hampi.
A special mention goes to Mr. Anjaneya, or Anji, a family friend of the hosts. He drove us around in his auto-rickshaw and was more than just a driver—he was like a guide. He took us on a tour of Hampi, suggested the best places to eat non-veg food, and even helped us rent a bike. His tips and guidance made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable.
Shankar Homestay is a perfect blend of comfort, great hospitality, and a peaceful vibe. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hampi! Literally nothing that we didn't like!
- Joanne (9/5): Peaceful, relaxing and delicious food - Very peaceful and quiet. The owners are very friendly and helpful, they treated us like family. The home cooked meals were delicious.
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing hospitality, the hosts are exceptional. They went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable.
The location is perfect, walking distance to temples and ruins. An easy walk or auto rickshaw ride into Hampi or the local village. The breakfasts and dinners were prepared with total class.
- Amrit (10/5): Brilliant place to stay in Hampi - The hosts were simply amazing. Ramu and Kavitha are amazing people and take care of their guests' needs. They are very forthcoming in helping out the guests. The property is super nice with a lot of trees and shade, plus very well maintained. Food (chargeable extra) is simple yet super satisfying. NA
- Adrianne (10/5): Wonderful 3-night stay in Hampi! - Quiet & clean, jungle location away from noisy traffic. The hosts, Ramu and Kavitha, made sure we had everything we needed. Tuk tuk driver, Anji, showed us all the beautiful temples. We always had breakfast & dinner at Shankar Homestay. I would stay again!
- Kk (10/5): Excellent homestay run by lovely people - A genuine homestay with a very nice couple who looked after us very well. Food was excellent hom cooking with freshly ground spices. Consequently had dinner there 4 nights running. Did our laundry. Provided tea and coffee. On departure they insisted on getting up at 4am to make breakfast for us. Arranged tuktuk tours of the sites. The homestay is quiet as out of town but close to the main sites. Bedding is a bit old. Pillows not great.
- Pallavi (8/5): good stay with the budget travel and people friendly - the space is in between point to all the tourist places, also they provided us with local pick up & drop which was easier for us to travel within the location. good home made food we relished after a tiring day!!Also as safe place to stay in terms we were all girls trip to Hampi!! AC was not working in one of the rooms and causing a bit of discomfort, if possible to keep coffee/tea maker in the room
- Tonya (10/5): I recommend this Homestay for anyone who wants to enjoy Indian culture and families - We enjoyed the garden. It was a wonderful place to sit outdoors and chat with the owners. They were so helpful. They washed our clothes and organized a rickshaw to take us to see the sunrise. We really loved the family atmosphere with their children running around. The air conditioning was great too. Nothing
- Andy (9/5): Quiet Homestay with lovely hosts - Lovely rural Homestay close to a village near Hampi. It is a nice Homestay, rooms are clean, comfortable and standard for the price. Best things are location and hosts. Quiet and rural with nice bird life. Host are very friendly, accommodating and helpful. We had 3 days of tours through them which were very enjoyable. Recommend as good place to stay. Nothing
- Benat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerhard (10/5): Cool and friendly homestay in hot Hampi. - Homestay run by very friendly and helpful people. Very quiet location with beautiful shady garden. Very spacious, clean and comfortable room. All was good
- Lara (10/5): Exceptional - Brilliant location - peaceful house and beautiful setting - such lovely hosts who were super accommodating and helped us to plan an amazing three days in Hampi. Breakfast and dinner was also delicious. We were very sad to leave and hope to return again one day! Highly recommended Shankar Homestay for anyone looking to stay in Hampi. This place is a hidden gem.
- Sarkar (9/5): The stay was very good.Kavita is a sweet lady. Our auto driver Anji is a very nice fellow - Breakfast menu limited....it's a paid Breakfast......no fruits served.Only a single menu Breakfast. The gyser was not working.Breakfast menu limited.
- Matthewa89 (9/5): Superb - Great friendly family who run the homestay who can organise everything for you including all of your food, which was very tasty.
They also can provide you with a tuk tuk driver for the day to help you to see all of the sights.
We were upgraded to a large room which was comfortable.
The family also did our laundry for us for free The pillows on the bed were not very comfortable
- Fernanda (9/5): Special days in Hampi - As a solo traveller, I’m trying to travel as low cost as possible and Kavitha helped me so much with that! She recommended going to one of the sites in a day in which it would be free, negociated the best auto-rickshaw prices and suggested renting a bike. They can help you with everything! The rest of the family is also amazing, always preparing you snacks, tea/coffee within a blink of an eye. Special thanks to Huli, my tuk-tuk driver, which’s been as great as possible!! He’s sweet, kind and superhelpful, made the Hampi days even better! Their property is not exactly in the city center, so you’ll be needing necessarily a car/ rickshaw to get around.
- John (9/5): Great hosts, friendly auto driver 'on tap', friendly vibe - Ramu and Kavitha were great hosts and we enjoyed the company of other guests too. Located very close to the various ruins, we did 3 full days in Anji's auto rickshaw exploring everything that wonderful Hampi has to offer. Very good value and extremely cheap and tasty (veg) meals. Our room was rather basic (but clean), but Kavitha told us of her plans to upgrade - we wish her well 😀
- Elaine (7/5): A pleasant location near to the village. -
- Neil (9/5): Excellent, authentic, homestay. - Felt like a proper homestay. Nothing was too much trouble. Good location, and good room, with space to spread out a bit. Food was lovely too. Highly recommended. Nil
- Majendie (9/5): I had a lovely homestay experience. - Location to sights was great when using Anji and his tuk tuk.
Covita and Ramu are very lovely people and nothing is too much trouble and they will organise everything for you!
They cook fabulous food too!
Anji is a very good and safe driver and always does his best for you. He is a very lovely young man. My room was rather dark
- Alex2603 (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely owner, great food, and a lot of good tips to visit Hampi.
- Hannah (10/5): Wonderful hosts, good food and great location. Would reccomend to anyone. - Really accommodating and friendly hosts. Keen to help you make the most of your time in Hampi. Laundry was free of charge, and the food was amazing.
Anji offers good value tours of Hampi. Nothing
- Diane77 (9/5): Great homestay for visiting Hampi - On a quiet road in the countryside near rice fields. Kavita arranged autorickshaw trips for us (1,500 INR/day) for the morning+taken to lunch at the Mango Tree; then back to the homestay for a couple hours rest in early afternoon, then 2-3 hours touring in the late afternoon. Friendly atmosphere with other guests and her family.
- Stefano_85 (10/5): Wonderful days in hampi - We had a very nice stay. The hosts were very helpful and welcoming. The food was great. -
- Rupert (10/5): A charming and friendly Homestay in Hampi - Kavita and Ramu are wonderful hosts. This is a delightful Homestay in the middle of the Hampi historical site (it's huge, so they can arrange a tuktuk to take you round - we were driven around and looked after by the excellent Anji). The breakfast banana pancakes and coffee are a great start to the day, and we recommend the delicious thali in the evening if you are offered it. You can walk by some of the local banana, rice and sugar cane fields, and easily get to the Sister Stones and Bhima Royal Gateway sites. No problems at all. Take mossie repellent for the 30 mins or so they come out for in the Karnataka evenings.
- Victoria (7/5): Good location for looking around Hampi. - Excellent location Room needs updating.
- Anne (10/5): Highly recommended for a visit to Hampi - Spacious room, welcoming and friendly family who organised our tour around Hampi for us. Very good food. Nothing
- Philip (7/5): Good - Hosts and staff were lovely, and we were well looked after. Good food and the hosts arranged a driver (Anji) for 2 days who was excellent. Our room was in need of renovation - very tired and basic but clean.
- Paula (7/5): A lovely homestay in Hampi - The hosts were so welcoming and helpful. They arranged our 2 day visit perfectly with lunches out and home cooked breakfast and evening meal. Their home is a lovely place to stay although the rooms we stayed in did need some attention. We do understand, however, this is being addressed as their next project.
- Lindsey (10/5): Wonderful Homestay! - Kavita and Ramu are fabulous hosts. They love sharing their home and beautiful gardens and offer very comfortable rooms. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they were so, so helpful to me, a single older woman travelling alone. They organised Anji to drive me around on all three days so that they could be sure I was being looked after. Then, when I had a very late night train, they found me an empty room in another house (despite it being a long weekend with everywhere full) where I could shower and chill. The home cooked breakfast and dinner are excellent, and dinner was carefully made for me with no spices. I loved hearing Ramu's story. He helps the local tribal community and also acts and performs. Finally Anji drove me to the station (where incidentally there are many many people waiting for trains so I felt perfectly safe).
- Fynn (10/5): Exceptional - Great and very clean room and bathroom. Good homemade food (breakfeast and dinner) for a very good price.
The hosts are very friendly people and lovely to meet. They explain everything really well and help with any extra wishes.
Special thanks to our TukTuk-driver Anji who took us everywhere.
- Ewan (9/5): Great Little Home Stay - Excellent stay. Lovely hosts. Couldn't do enough for us. Arranged pick from train station which was very helpful. Food great. All the sites nearby by rickshaw or on foot.
- Grace (9/5): Excellent in all respects - Everyone made us very welcome and were helpful and generous. The room was superb - comfy bed and pillows, hot water, plenty of space and cupboards. One of the best rooms we’ve stayed in in India
Food was good and reasonably priced and other places you can walk to
Would highly recommend hiring bikes. A great way to get around
- Marek (9/5): Great place to stać for sightseeing tour of Hampi - My wife and I have just finished our stay at Shankar Homestay in Hampi. We highly recommend it for a lot of reasons. The place is located in a quiet corner, yet within walking distance from key tourist attractions. The hosts are extremely hospitable and helpful. Fluent in English, they will help you organize the visits to the temples in Hampi. Apart from good advice, they will lend you a very practical map and a guidebook. Breakfast of your choice is served daily, you can also order dinner. We ate there and the food was delicious. Both hosts are extremely resourceful, they will help you get local transport (rikcshaws or cars) with reliable English-speaking drivers.
And remember: a homestay is nothing like a hotel or a hostel. It is a kind of a live- in arrangement that allows you to experience the life of a regular Indian family. Just look at the pictures: we were invited to the birthday party of the couple's son.
Oh, and don’t forget that the host is involved in promoting Indian culture: he is an active member of a local acting group.
On the downside: the Internet connection may get choppy at times. Lastly, we strongly dissuade taking a tuk-tuk ride to the airport, you need an air-conditioned car to survive...
- Maximilian (10/5): Fantastic homestay in perfect location - We got an upgraded room - this was a very nice surprise! The room was spacious, well acclimatized and the bed was extremely comfortable.
We had a fantastic homestay - Ramu and his family are the best hosts you can imagine. On the day of our arrival they helped organize a taxi, we got invited to their sons birthday party with lots of delicious food and the next day before our departure at night we could take a 2 hour rest in another room on the property.
Thank you for everything! You are the best hosts one can imagine.
- Lizzy (9/5): Great find in Hampi - Hosts were very friendly and helped us plan our time in Hampi. Ate there twice and food was excellent. They called rickshaw driver whenever we needed it. Minor points - could do with some cushions on chairs and a few hooks on the wall in the bedroom
- Peter (10/5): Warm and friendly, welcoming homestay near history - Cavita and Ramu made our stay a warm and sweet memory.
Thay did there very best to help, adwise, support and organize, making us welcome like home.
Thank you for making our stay such a bright time.
The very interesting historic sites are best explored by renting a tuck-tuck fr the whole day ( 1500 RI), as the distances are waste. Nothing could be better!
- Roberto (9/5): Great place - Great hosts, lovely place to stay, AC, hot water. Just 10 min. walk to the near village where you can rent a bike. No complaints
- Amber-rose (9/5): Delightful home stay experience with a lovely, down to earth family. - Felt like a home away from home. Ramu and Kavitha were very friendly and helpful. We loved our stay and getting to know more about their lovely family and circle of friends, including Anje who was our rickshaw driver during our stay. The property is also very close to all the main Hampi sights and the meals provided were great.
- Anwar (10/5): Exceptional - Kavitha and Ram made our stay in Hampi special. Everything was perfect and their hospitality was the best. We really felt like home and they cared for everything: arrival, room, food, transportation, sightseeing itinerary and even laundry. We were very lucky to found their place. Much recommended!!
- Roisin (8/5): We had a pleasant stay at Shankar Homestay and enjoyed the mango lassi very much - The room was lovely - comfy mattress, really spacious and nice decor. Also spotless.
The family were very welcoming.
Fresh mangos everyday! You have to take a tuk tuk everywhere from the homestay but the homestay family will recommend a tour for you.
