Guest Reviews
- christina (10/5): We’d highly recommend and would love to return again. - Crossing Cottage is a little piece of paradise. Our weekend here felt luxurious and relaxing. The cottage had everything we needed and more. The cottage has been renovated to an excellent standard and Karen and Darren have thought of everything, including the amazing welcome pack. The cottage, garden and hot tub overlook fields which we could sit and stare at for hours. Helmsley was a 3 minute drive or 30 (ish) min walk away. Here we found the best deli, lovely shops, pubs and a spa. We spent one day walking the beautiful Cleveland Way to Rievaulx Abbey. This took about 4 hours at a leisurely pace, with a stop for lunch and a drink on the way. Nothing.
- Emma (10/5): Beautiful cottage in great location - Had the most wonderful and relaxing stay at Crossing Cottage. The location allows for a great mix of being easily accessible and close to local amenities, but also offering a sense of being remote, where you can immerse yourself in the beautiful surrounding countryside. A great base from which to explore the North York Moors, the cottage is very comfortable and beautifully presented. Exceptionally welcoming and friendly hosts that strike the right balance of being on hand but also allowing you privacy. A morning brew listening to curlew, and watching the barn owl quartering in a neighbouring field each evening, were an unexpected highlight for us. If you want to escape daily life and refresh, I would highly recommend a stay at this beautifully presented and maintained cottage. Absolute bliss, thank you Karen and Darren.
- Louise (10/5): A perfect cosy long weekend - A lovely little hidden gem, perfect for a short walk into Helmsley and ideally located for jumping in the car to explore the North East.
The cottage itself is spotless and beautifully decorated.
I couldn’t recommend this place more. Nothing
- Stuart (9/5): The hosts were very friendly and the welcome pack was really nice, good quality snacks etc. Beds comfortable and a small - Countryside setting, easy walk up the old railway track to Helmsley about a 30 min walk, no traffic, perfect for walking your furry hound 🐶 nice pint at the Brewery, which is very reasonably priced… Nothing to dislike if you like the countryside

- Corina (10/5): Cosy cottage and hottub with a nice walk to Helmsley - Immediately cared for, the property is cosy tastefully decorated, well equipped. Loved the hot tub and beds are very comfortable Nothing - It was great!
- Stephanie (10/5): Would recommend. Just what we needed. So relaxing. - Very tastefully furnished and comfortable. Great bed. Peaceful.
Has everything you need.
Lovely welcome pack.
Really enjoyed the walk from the property into Helmsley, along the old rail way track.
- Olivia (10/5): Perfect and peaceful - We loved staying at the cottage, it was peaceful and relaxing, and the place was spotless. The hot tub was amazing, and we really enjoyed the short walk through the woods into the lovely town of Helmsley. The hosts Karen and Darren were incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to assist with anything we needed, even coming over to show us how to heat the hot tub and giving us a lift to pick up food from the local restaurant. Although it’s a little far from York city centre, we were able to get Ubers easily and they were relatively inexpensive. We would definitely stay again and hope to be back soon.
- Andrew (10/5): - Excellent location and house.
Karen and Darren are very friendly. The hot tub was absolutely brilliant.
- Kari (10/5): Kan anbefales, kort vei inn til Hemsley - Hadde alt vi trengte, morgenkåpe var et pluss, var også kaffe og litt snacks også 😊
- jan (10/5): Excellent stay, with little extras which made it really special - The cottage was lovely and cosy. It had everything you needed. Little extras included robes and environmental friendly products. Nothing
- Will (10/5): Karen and Darren were fabulous hosts, and their charming corttage made for the perfect long weekend getaway. Thank you! - Very thoughtfully designed and well equipped
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Joanne (10/5): A wonderful stay in a warm and loved cottage. - You can tell the cottage is loved, which made for a warm and welcoming stay. We fell in love with it and wished we lived there! Karen was really helpful before and during our stay. You can tell Karen and Darren have put a lot of care into the property and with the items in the property for guests and your stay. The welcome pack was thoughtful, included all the essentials, all the information you could need from appliances to local walks. The happy birthday banner and Prosecco was much appreciated too.
My personal highlight was the seat at the window - huge and comfortable, you could sit and read there all day. Nothing at all.
- Lisa (10/5): Beautiful cottage in a peaceful, picturesque area - The cottage was beautiful and immaculately clean! It was cosy and had everything we needed for a really comfortable stay. The hot tub worked perfectly and it was lovely sitting out on a peaceful evening watching the stars and listening to the owls (and again the next morning!). Karen and Darren were the perfect hosts and really helpful... their recommendation of breakfast at the nearby farm shop was excellent! We'd definitely recommend the cottage and would love to come back in summer.
- Louise (9/5): Weekend stay - Lovely traditional cottage, with excellent views. Only 1.5 miles from the centre of Helmsley. So near enough, but far enough for some peace and quiet. Only a short walk from Beadlam Grange, too. We would definitely recommend the breakfast. A great choice of pubs and restaurants in and around Helmsley. Darren and Karen were lovely hosts and were to hand if we needed anything.
It was really nice to arrive at a property where there were no hidden surprises and the pictures were a true reflection. Darren and Karen have thought of everything. Having the use of two hair dryers was very handy and it was a lovely touch with the cosy bath robes too.
Thank you for a lovely enjoyable stay. Louise Nothing.
- Shaun (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely amazing little cottage, love that they have kept some of the original features of the house, great walks pre planned for you in the welcome pack and super peaceful. N/a
