• chabana (10/5): With the right car for the terrain, we are looking forward to coming back for more. - We unfortunately had to leave very early. I am sure the breakfast would have been lovely. We will find out next time :) Nothing within the host's control. The terrain was a little bit challenging for my vehicle, but the experience was worthwhile.

• Clinton (9/5): Relaxed farm getaway - Country feeling with farm like feel and clean air to breathe...perfect for a relaxing time away. Enjoyed being able to walk around and braai under the stars.
• Richard (9/5): Superb - Rooms are exactly as shown is photos on Bookings.com. Place is really very clean, comfortable and we enjoyed beautiful scenery, animals and general friendliness of the owners. I would, without any doubt, refer anyone to stay at this property. The road to the establishment is very bad and it cannot be contributed to them. It should be government fixing it.

• Melissa (4/5): Disappointing - We liked the location, the serenity and beauty of the property. The room, space and comfort Poor. We liked the room itself. But, the service was extremely poor from the moment we got there. Jan was impolite and impatient. We called him to say we were at the gate. He came and it turned we were at the wrong gate. He then led us through the right gate, but rushed ahead and we couldn’t catch-up since we were driving a sedan. For someone who was supposedly leading us, it was non-sensical to rush ahead, and so he disappeared from sight. Because we couldn’t see him, we took a wrong time. Only after he realised that we were delaying, he came out with a torch, signalling to us. The reasonable thing he should have done, that is if he minded driving slowly so that we could follow him nicely, would have been to come out, after parking his car, with a torch to signal which path to follow.  On arriving at the room, we expected to have Wi-Fi connection, but there was none. Then the toilet wasn’t flushing. We reported this to him in the morning, around 7am. His response was that the toilet was working when it ‘was tested last night’. This obviously implied we must have broken it. He promised to send someone to fix it, but was also adamant that we should  check-out by 10am. It felt odd that he was harping on about check-out when we telling him about a dysfunctional toilet, which was the only one we could use.  He never came to fix the toilet. And, we realised then, as we were checking-out, why he was harping on about check-out when we were telling him about the toilet - he told himself that we were checking out at 10am anyway, and so we should suffer the unpleasantness of a non-flushing toilet. The man was just unpleasant and uncouth, making what should have been a pleasant stay regrettable.

• Jacobus (9/5): Really exceptional accommodation if you are travelling between Cradock and Somerset East! - The accommodation is exceptional value for money. The host (and family) is very welcoming - this is an out of the way gem! Booking.com list the establishment as located within Somerset East - it is actually some 35km outside on the R337 between Somerset and Cradock on a gravel road. This was not a problem for us but could be for someone looking for a one night within Somerset East!

• Van (6/5): Pleasant - The peace and beauty of the place. No parking near the chalet. As ladies we had to struggle to get our luggage to the chalet. No braai facility near the chalet. To far out of town, lucky we stopped for snacks and water as there is no shops around, if you need anything from the shop it is about a 40km round trip on gravel road if you need water or ice exc.

We booked the lodge in the picture, but we were put in a rondawel. We were really excited to wake up to the watering hole in front of us, but woke up to the garages and staff leaving early
