Guest Reviews
- Nicholas (10/5): Great little town, great hotel - Thomas the host is the man! He invited me to a local wedding, which was amazing, and showed me how to ride a moped to get around. Really helpful and lovely
Belles discussions.
- Woodcroft (10/5): - Always a pleasure staying here.
Thomas the owne and his wife, very friendly and welcoming 🙏.
Comfy and cool a/c rooms. Very quiet and a lovely green 💚 atmosphere. I'll definitely stay again.
- Ian (6/5): Good for budget traveller - Cost Long way from the city. Best for budget traveller.
- Karoly (7/5): -
- Woodcroft (10/5): - Great location, close to everything and the market. The owner is extremely friendly, speaks good English and French. Very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Secure motorbike parking.
- Arun (10/5): -
- Laurent (10/5): -
Bref, on recommande cet endroit !

- Roman (9/5): - We stayed for 2 nights at Phalla Riverside and had a wonderful experience.
The owner, Thomas, is incredibly kind and helpful – he assisted us with everything we needed right away and made us feel very welcome.
The accommodation is located a little outside the city center, but this is easily solved by renting a scooter directly from Thomas at a very good price. In fact, the slightly more remote location is a big advantage – it's very peaceful and quiet, which makes for a perfect night's sleep.
One of the highlights is the beautiful tropical garden in the courtyard. It's an ideal place to relax and also a great spot to escape the heat and sun – it always felt pleasantly there.
Thank you, Thomas, for a great stay! If we return to Kampong Cham, we will definitely stay here again.
- Woodcroft (9/5): - Great location, very friendly staff, reasonably priced, market & restaurants confidently located.
- Theresa Anna (10/5): - Really nice place. The owner Thomas is really friendly. There are so many beautiful plants and flowers. The rooms are very pretty and clean.
- Dellia (10/5): On veut revenir :) - Tout!
- Steven (10/5): staff were brilliant - everything blooby excellent nothing
- Robyn (8/5): Relaxed, peaceful and great staff - Love the garden ,full of plants and very large area to relax, sit and experience the quiet.
Also loved the setting in the town/village.
Staff super friendly and helpful.
On recommande vivement !
- Terence (10/5): -
- Julien (9/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Lovely property - Beautiful property, approximately 20 mins walk out of town. Room was clean and the garden with lots of plants was fabulous. There is a local market just around the corner. Host was very helpful and will assist with all transportation. Rooms needed blankets, not just sheets (I woke up cold both nights).
- Laura (5/5): Passable -
- Trent (10/5): Exceptional -
- Su (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely area within the local community and not as far away from Kratie as I thought.
The lady who has built this business literally from scratch in the village area she grew up in is so helpful and happy to chat about her childhood and life in general.
Would definitely return. Nothing
- Badlydrawncat (10/5): Exceptional - Welcoming and comfortable. We loved the fabulous garden, the shared kitchen and the spacious bedroom. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet, so we slept very well.
There were mosquito screens on the windows and although there was no AC, the combination of the ceiling and the standing fan was more than up to the job of keeping us cool. We loved the friendly shops and food places around the village and the friendly local tuk tuk driver to take us places. We were sorry to leave, we'd love to return. Nothing at all
- Maurits (8/5): Very good -
- Jennie (9/5): Perfect Guest House for a quiet stop - Excellent Guest House just north of the town on the river.
Large room with lots of light and good windows , bathroom was really clean and bed very comfy
Option to have breakfast or hire bikes. Nice rooftop with lots of plants
Definitely recommend staying here Nothing ...all was good
- Alex (8/5): Proper people here. - Thomas and his staff.
Lots of green stuff and flowers Limited local food choices
- Richard (10/5): A Nice Place in Kampong Cham - It is a very nice place to stay in Kampong Cham. There are many large common areas with so many green plants everywhere which makes it a very nice place to stay. My room was clean and comfortable with great hot water and AC. Laundry, motorbikes and bicycles are also available.
- Stephen (6/5): The location was ok, just $2 or less to town. 2 tours by tuk tuk were enjoyable, ask for driverGecko - Plenty of recreational area and use of kitchen at reception. Bike and bicycle hire available[motor bike $7 a day. On arrival shown to room by wife of owner, no identification or booking No required. A lot of the time nobody present at reception, Wife hardly smiled whole time there and room was not serviced for the 1 week duration of our stay. Practically had to beg for clean towels. Breakfast was not worth the $3, 2eggs and toast.
- Coe (8/5): Very good -
- Daniel (10/5): Great value for money - Everything was great! The rooms were large and clean. Staff were very friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. Location is a little away from the centre but that can be a good thing.
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional - Really nice owners, room was fine. All good. Just do it.
- Jennifer (9/5): Lovely little place; exceptional value for money - Very friendly, helpful staff. Sweet place slightly out of town. Tuk tuk driver (Chork Heng) readily available to drive you wherever you needed to go at very reasonable prices. Both staff at the hotel and tuk tuk driver, very knowledgable about the area and happy to share travelling tips. Easy to mingle with other guests and enjoy the shared spaces - rooftop patio to watch sunrise/sunset as well as common dining area. Beautiful plants and gardens as well. Rooms were simple, but very clean and comfortable.
Exceptional value for money. Would recommend and definitely stay here on return trip. Loud rooster (on adjacent property) in the morning was hard to ignore.
- Marú (10/5): Lovely stay at Thomas' house - Thomas is such an adorable, kind and generous person. He knows so much about the region, the culture and the history. He also prepared a list of several circuits and spots around. It felt like being at a friend's home. The room was clean and spacious with double fans, and the whole place was quiet and tidy. Thomas made his house charming with all the vegetation.
- Jérôme (10/5): Exceptional - Great place to stay in Kampong Cham with view on the Mekong river. Very clean area, the guesthouse is so charming. 10 min away by scooter from Kampong Cham city center. N/A
- Eveline (5/5): rooms number 3 and 4 are not advisable with high temperatures.. - very clean! rental of good bike! situated near the river, with a wonderful roofgarden and nice views. i changed room because of a terrible smell of the sewer system. changed from number 4 to number 3. this room was extremely hot, right deep into the night, even though two ventilators were running. being near the lobby, sitting area, it was very noisy.
- Piotr (8/5): Very good - owner is polite cleaning ladies were a little noisy on the corridor
- Aurelect (10/5): A perfect place to stay for your time in Kampong Cham - This is the best place to stay in KC, the rooms and clean and tidy and the host is very friendly and helpful. You can rent motorbike or bikes to go around on itineraries provided by the host. -
- Patrick (8/5): Very good - Helpful owner. Clean rooms. Correct price. Out of the city. You get all you need but don't expect a Sheraton.
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! So far the best place we've stayed in!
- Geoffrey (9/5): Superb -
- Nirvan (10/5): Sparkly clean and maintained homey guesthouse - Perfectly clean and well maintained. Thomas is a very hospitable host who goes out of his way to welcome and help his visitors in both French and English. Nothing
- Kasia (9/5): Superb -
- Guido (8/5): recommended - very friendly personal, lots of plants, location out of centre close to village unlucky timing, very loud 2,5day wedding party near by
rented bicycles from phalla were quite uncomfortable
- Nicolas (10/5): Exceptional - Thomas is a a welcoming and warm host. Always available to help and give a lots of advice and information for visiting Kampong Cham and surrounding. He can help you with your itinerary and journey in Cambodia and speak French! Motorbike available for a few dollars. Wonderful place, 5 minutes away from the center , clean.
Merci encore Thomas Nothing
- Mark (10/5): Would definitely recommend - The owner went out of his way to be very friendly and helpful even though he didn't speak too much English. The room was clean and a good size. The food from his sisters place across the road is great. Shared kitchen and fridge to us and free tea, water and coffee. We hired their bikes to explore which were in good condition We had a room with balcony and although there is one there isn't any funriture on it which we didn't realize but there are plenty of other seating areas.
- Jack (9/5): Nice cute place to stay, to advice for everyone. - Lovely quiet green place with lots of plants. Distance to downtown was greater than expected, although it was clearly indicated in advance.
- Karen (8/5): Comfortable stay - The room had everything that we needed. The shower was hot, the air conditioning worked and the room was clean. The owner was friendly and helpful. They made breakfast for us and went across the road to buy some bananas for us when we wanted some.
- De (9/5): Superb - Amazing place, great location and wonderful host! Ask and anything is provided - company included :) Slightly noisy at night due to nature around but it is how it is outside of the city
- Sherry (8/5): Very good - Room is big and clean ! The owner very kind and helpful!! the power outage while using water heater.
- Jumoye (9/5): Lovely stay, thank you - Lovely property witha nice open space to sit. The room was clean and functional. Thomas was incredibly helpful and friendly, speaks some English and is fluent in French. He was able to help me organise a tour of the town and surrounding countryside, which was really amazing, and book my onward bus journey.
- Ladislav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicki (9/5): Great location, Kind & Helpful People, - We loved being in a smaller neighborhood with the lively market outside our door. The owner Thomas was a very helpful and friendly host. The location was a 30 minute walk from the center, through neighborhoods following the river. There are bikes, scooters and tuktuks available for transport. We rented a scooter from the guesthouse and spent 2.5 days following 3 routes that the guesthouse suggested to nearby temple sights and quiet surrounding villages. This was an amazing way to see Cambodian life and I would highly recommend doing this (with your choice of transport). The AC room was clean and had what we needed. All in all we highly recommend both the guesthouse and the location.
- Morah (10/5): What a Gem!!! - The Host is FANTASTIC!!! Always trying to help and organise things for you, make traveling easier. Super friendly, and family business. Dad tuk tuk driver
Sister in law fabulous food. Beef lok lak and especially the noodle soup!!! I will dream of the soup for a while.
Laundry was perfect.
Room super clean.
We stayed with balcony view and garden view both are great.
Garden was fabulous which encouraged birds which we loved.
We loved the scooter routes he gave. So helpful and we felt we got to see alot on our own. Great option.
- Gregory (4/5): Noisy place, mosque nearby, temple with loud recorded chanting, forget about sleeping past 4am -
- Terence (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craven (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional, from the host to the the facilities. Great care has been taken to ensure your stay is as smooth and comfortable as possible. The gardens are lovely, lots of shade , furniture to relax upon , quite a gem ! I think even the pickiest of eaters could not fault this place , it was my first time in kompong cham , friendliest of locals , market / fresh fruit and local tit bits just outside , if you are looking for a "realistic" view of Cambodia ,and have braved the noise and smog of Phnom pehn then I urge you to unwind here ! No bullshit !
- Terence (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martine (7/5): Could be a good place for backpakers - I think this can be a very good place for many people, but it did not quite fit our bill. The place is clean, the abundant beautiful plants in the verandas are very attractive. The superior room we had was spacious but too stark for us (no chair, no table, just beds and lots of shelves, and no windows with some view). This was a work/vacation stay for me and I needed to be able to work. But the room could really be fine for other guests. Thomas was also very helpful when I forgot my bag and glasses upon leaving after one night.
There are two motorbikes to rent. Bikes cannot be used for more than a one km or so. Do not count on them for longer exploration. We are usually not very demanding, but the many very steep stairs (ladder like) to get to our room (3rd or fourth floor) were a real obstacle. We also felt that the river would be more accessible than it is. One can see it from one of the terrasses, but that required more steps). One of the reasons for choosing Phalla was to be by the river.
We really could not stay the two nights we had reserved because of the stairs and general location -- but Thomas asked us to pay for both nights. As he said: we learned our lesson.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - The owner of Phalla Riverside is very friendly and helpful. The kitchen is accessible to every guest, so you can also cater for yourself.
- Dean (7/5): Good -
- Robinson (9/5): Superb -
- Penkem (8/5): Comfortable stay - The room and bathroom were totally spotless
My bicycle had a safe place to sleep
The bed was comfy and the pillows were awesome.
The convenience of the sisters restaurant across the road. No aircon. It was too hot to sleep or breath in my room. The ceiling fan was noisy. The roosters crowed all night.
- Vinit (8/5): Excellent stay, will definitely recommend - Clean room, nice facilities and a very helpful owner. Could rent a bike to go around town. The property is located around 2kms from Kampong Cham town. Really nice location in the countryside. Lighting in the room could be a bit better.
- Viesturs (9/5): Comfortable, quiet place. - Super nice owner. Everything is clean, tidy. You can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. A small market is nearby.
- Jakob (7/5): Fine local stay - Probably one of the best options in Kampong Charm at the moment. And the place provides the basics, however it is a little outside town. The owner is very kind and is eager to help with tuctuc etc.
We had a very nice tour on the island with a tuktuk recommended by the owner, seeing fields and villages. The guesthouse is a little odd, without good place to hang out, besides the front area.
A lot of the western style restaurants and coffee shops has not come back after corona leaving the city very “local”.
