Guest Reviews
- Joseph (10/5): - An authentic ryoka

- Breeva (10/5): - For us it was an unforgettable stay in a traditional Japanese hotel with onsen (we had a private bath outside). A very beautiful territory, not large, but so worth. Very polite and helpful staff. Incredible breakfast and dinner in Kaiseki-style. Small shop with amazing traditional goods. Perfect clean. We adore this hotel! A big thank to every person who was communicating with us!❤️

- Merja (10/5): Upea ryokan, herkullinen ruoka.

- Pathai (10/5): - nice place
lovely staffs none

- Mats (9/5): - a wonderful miniature onsen village with private onsen options

- Emilie (10/5): Exceptional - It is a beautiful traditional inn with a wonderful onsen and delicious food.
- Darla (10/5): Exceptional - We had great communication with the property and reaching the location and check-in was smooth. We utilized the public baths and also stayed in a room with a private bath-- both were wonderful. The food was top notch-- my recommendation is to come to dinner very very hungry. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. For four of us the price seemed steep but when you break it down per person it is very reasonable for the meals and services you receive.
- Ashlee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joseph (9/5): Fantastic romantic place to stay. -
- Yuan (9/5): Superb - Great food good staff and good water No real issues
- Sirada (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kai (9/5): Highly recommended because of their onsen and food - Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I could use the messaging function in Booking.com to communicate with their staff when we would reach Hita station so that they could fetch us to the hotel.
The dinner and breakfast were delicious that we finished everything, which is a feat by itself because there were a lot of food items. Private indoor onsen was too hot. Not a big issue because there is also a private outdoor onsen.
- Jimmy (9/5): Great facilities in a rural location as one would imagine. Food + Service top notch - Hatago Kayausagi is nestled in the suburbs of Hita, Oita surrounded by small family farms and likely century-old homes. The team was communicative throughout the stay, starting from when we booked the reservation through this platform. English skill wasn't necessarily the strongest but they get by and make a good effort.
We were picked up by car directly from the Hita Station - having taken the bus (roughly two hours) from Fukuoka Station.
Meal was top-class. Absolutely amazing experience throughout from the service all the way to the drinks and the like. If you speak Japanese you are able to partake in this Kyushu hospitality - friendly, warm, open but still very polite. There wasn't necessarily anything wrong: it's in a historical location and things were built around it. The river (at the time we went) was dry and not super scenic. If you walk outside beyond the gardens there's the backdrop of a lumber yard or a Sapporo beer brewery. Not super scenic once you're outside of the actual facilities. For a one-night stay though it was great.
- Jiwoo (10/5): Exceptional - Nice pickup service from Hita Tourist Center.
Room and cuisine is needless to say perfect.
Both outdoor/indoor onsen were awesome. The larger bed was a bit too squeaky for 2 people. But the smaller bed was enough in size.
At night the bedroom was too dry, had a sore throat in the morning. A humidifier would have been great.
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional service, a very memorable stay - The friendly staff. The service and hospitality from the team at Hatago Kayausagi was exceptional. I will remember this stay for the rest of my life and am very grateful for their efforts.
The atmosphere. Our room was very peaceful and the private outdoor onsen was fantastic.
The meals were delicious and epic.
The staff speak just enough English, and were very patient with my poor Japanese. I liked everything and recommend this ryokan.
Hita is a quiet town. I loved it but acknowledge some like to have more to do during the day.
- Isamu (10/5): Heaven on earth. A taste of true and traditional Japan and all its beauty. We will come back! - Loved everything. Impeccable dinner course and breakfast. That we didn't stay longer!
- Siew (10/5): Great stay, will still come back ! - Love the rustic and traditional ryokan style !
Super delicious Kaiseki breakfast and dinner, truly enjoyed the meals. No attached bath in the room and will need to use the bath at the onsen.
- Jessica (9/5): It was a wonderful and relaxing stay. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and professional. Appreciate the staff f - The environment is very quiet The room has a bit of smell coming from the straw mat
- Stamena (10/5): Such a unique place with so much love, beauty and passion established by the owner - Just amazing! So many beautiful details everywhere on the property and the rooms like ikebana, face mask, private dining room for everyone, all electricity outlets covered with different prints, unique furniture..So much love and thought was put into everything. The staff and the owner went the extra mile eg special drop off time, adjusted breakfast time just for me..The breakfast and dinner were out of this world delicious. Really nothing! It was beautiful, soothing and soulfeeding!
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional place to stay! - Beautiful old traditional ryokan with modern comfortable amenities. The entire staff was super friendly and helpful Nothing! Everything was wonderful!
- Montserrat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Go (10/5): The Best and Most Outstanding Hotel I ever stayed at. - Staff went above and beyond. The best and outstanding customer service we experienced in Japan. Beautiful surroundings & Ryokan, very delicious meals, room and onsen were comfortable and excellent including the amenities provided. I can't wait to come back. Very Highly recommend. Nothing
- Sakura (8/5): Very good - the onsen was very hot and the atmosphere was wonderful. I wish the lightings in the room were warmer.
Also the dinner course was a little too much in total amount of food for one meal, every dish was so delicious but I felt too full towards the end to enjoy every bite.
- Mitch (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fumiko (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Incredible stay, wonderful food and the Onsen was an absolute dream! I wish we had these in Australia - This place is incredible!! The atmosphere, serenity, tranquility and scenery is amazing! It’s like being sent back in time with how traditional this resort is. The rooms and Onsen were just wonderful especially if you’re looking for that private experience. My partner and I heavily tattooed and wanted something special since we’ve never experienced anything like this. This place didn’t disappoint. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, it is out of the way from the train station but they have a courtesy van to pick you up. We wanted to see the city so they picked our bags up and then came back 2 hours later to pick us up and take us to the resort. Wonderful survive!!
- Akihiro (10/5): while I stay, I felt like I was in a dream - vintage Japanese house and natural hot springs!! nothing
- Regan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keehong (10/5): Exceptional - Great food and well managed onsen. It is a bit tricky in terms of the access but I was bery satisfied with kind people and the most wonderful food. A bit cold and dark room which seems due to its old fashioned mood.
- Peggy (10/5): Excellent stay! - What’s not to like? Everything is excellent. Beautiful surroundings, thoughtful rooms and excellent dinner and service. Dress warm if you visit in winter. Nothing.
- Kelsey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kulthida (9/5): nice stay - nice staff. room very spacious and clean. surrounding areas are nice and quiet. very peaceful. nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sakura (10/5): Exquisite rooms, food and hospitality that showcase the charms of traditional rural Japan. - Everything about this stay exceeded my expectations, from the welcome and ryokan tour conducted by the proprietors, through to the beautiful and comfortable surrounds (grounds, buildings - main, baths, gift shop/reading room - and room) and exquisite Kaiseki dinners and breakfasts. Service was friendly, helpful and focussed on accommodating guests' needs. The attention to detail in the gardens and buildings - dating from the Taisho era and furnished accordingly - was outstanding; every room had so many points of beauty and interest yet nothing was overdone. The location of our room next to the river meant provided a wonderful, relaxing soundscape and even a view of the fireworks in nearby Hita City on the first night of our stay. We would have liked to have had access to a mixed bath facility at the ryokan. While private baths (indoor and outdoor rotenburo) are available for guests staying at the ryokan's maisonettes and villas, they are not available for use by those staying in a room in the main building; such guests wishing to enjoy mixed bathing need to walk about five minutes up the road to use a family bath at the Kotohira Onsen, (whose baths, unlike those of the ryokan, are scaldingly hot).
