Guest Reviews
- James (10/5): This was just what I wanted and needed. I am so happy to have met Marian and Opy, and their dog. - We really loved Casa Chuparrosas. The view when you enter the front door is just breathtaking. I think the veranda area was my favorite part. It offers a panoramic view of the mountains and overlooks the tiered kitchen garden. The kitchen and dining areas are both stunning as well, but we were unable to dine there due to my getting sick the night before our reservation. Lástima, because the menu is gorgeous. The guest quarters also offer a stunning view, three beds and a much appreciated fireplace. Casa Chuparrosas is a feast for the senses. At the corner of our room was a large wind chime with deep, sweet tones (I have a video where my partner says, "Wow!", about the sound). You could not ask for kinder people to host you than Marian and Opy.
We checked out on a Friday. The next Monday I had an MRI scan, and it was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life (no ear protection). To get through it, I visualized being back at Casa Chuparrosas, especially the beautiful antique blue front door that opens onto the veranda, with the view of the misty mountains. Thank you, Marian and Opy for giving me coping tools! Nada.
- Alexis (10/5): Breathtaking mountain views and gracious hosts made this the best hotel stay I’ve ever had. - Our stay was above and beyond. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing and you can’t beat the incredible views. The room is cozy and comfortable.
- Natalie (10/5): A beautifully magical experience, and a home from home. Can’t wait to revisit! - Coming away from Casa Chuparrosa with a heart full of gratitude.
Marian and Opy are the most beautiful and giving hosts, they opened their home to us, made us feel like family and are truly the kindest hosts I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying with.
Marian’s creativity in the kitchen is deserving of a Michelin star, both my partner and I agreed that some of the best food we’ve eaten was during our two night stay.
Opy’s horticultural magic contributes to a self-sustaining kitchen, where the freshest ingredients are literally picked by hand when you choose your meal.
And when being given the chance to essentially have a private dining experience, from garden to table, it is honestly worth every single penny!
If you want to reconnect with yourself, nature, and still feel at home - this is the experience for you!
Thank you SO much Marian and Opy, cannot wait to return 🥰 The fact we had to leave!!!
- Maria (10/5): An absolutely stunning place with a breathtaking mountain view to wake up to. Wonderful owners and one of the most delic -
- Louis (10/5): - The view of the mountain is absolutely incredible... Then the garden, the food, the warm welcome, everything in this place is a bit magical. It is the perfect place to relax and slow down. You will not regret it a second Nothing
- DANILO RENATO (10/5): Definitely recommended! - Casa Chuparrosas is a dream place to be, a hidden gem perfectly located close to the nature and the nearby San Mateo Rio Hondo city center.
It enhances peace, calmness and serenity.
Our room wasn’t only fully equipped with all necessities but as well elegantly decorated, superbly comfortable and with the most breathtaking view over the mountains and nature.
A plus that needs a special mention: the fireplace lit all night long, embracing the self with a sense of coziness and warmth. All PERFECT!
- Gabriella (10/5): A perfect mountain escape with delicious food - We spent two wonderful nights in this beautiful and tranquil cabin in the mountains as part of our honeymoon trip to Oaxaca, hosted by Opy and Ale. Everything about our stay was perfect. The food was absolutely incredible, we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner prepared by them, and they accommodated our dietary requirements with such care and ease. Truly the best pancakes we’ve ever had! It was the perfect place to rest, connect with nature, and we left feeling completely refreshed. They went above and beyond, from giving me honey for my cough to helping organise a visit to the local pharmacy and clinic. Marian even arranged our transport to and from the cabin, making everything seamless. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay, highly recommended! Not really a negative but a comment - the food while completely worth it for a private dining experience, fresh ingredients and custom menu was expensive compared to other restaurants in Oaxaca.
Bedankt lieve mensen ❤️
- Nancy (10/5): You feel held by the sky and the mountains in this high vibration home. Truly special! - Absolutely stunning! Not only is the home beautifully designed a delight to be in, but this space has the most spectacular views I have ever seen upon waking. A truly special place, unlike any accommodation.
Marian and Opy are the most lovely hosts I could ever hope to meet. They were so accommodating in ways that I felt exceeded a typical stay. Marian makes beautiful and delicious dishes with the most fresh and lovingly tended vegetables from the garden.
I happened to sprain my ankle while on the trip and they went out of their way to buy ice packs and bring me tea and start a fire in the fireplace. They were so attentive, kind, welcoming, and such open-minded conversationalists. I truly felt like family in their home. It speaks volumes about who they are as people. Cannot recommend more highly! Everything was great!
- Andreea (10/5): 2 maravillosos días - absolutamente TODO, la comida y las vistas excepcionales nada
- Rolando (10/5): - We loved absolutely everything. This place is magical. As soon as you walk in, you can feel the good energy. With all certainty I can say this is one of the most special places I've stayed at. Marian and Opy have spilled love into Casa Chuparrosas.
Yes, the view is breathtaking, but it's only the beginning. Marian and Opy make this stay magical. Organic food, all picked daily with Opy for each meal. Marian is an absolute genius as a chef. I'm an absolute foody, dining in high-end restaurants across the world, and Marians cooking is at a Michelin level chef. It's all magical because everything they do, they do it with love ❤️
You're at the mountain with a feeling of freedom and the cleanliness of a Four Season Hotel.
This trip is for people who know how to love nature while sharing life stories of love and learning. I'm absolutely speechless, and there are no words to describe this magical experience. You have to go and live it to know there isn't anything close that compares to the love that Opy and Marian have for each other.
I am blessed to have been able to meet them. This will be my sanctuary 🙏🏻 Everything is just perfect.
- Lisa (10/5): Truly magical. The welcoming community and hosts have built a sanctuary in paradise. - The location was beautiful with stunning views and the owner/hosts were lovely. The room was comfortable and private and connected. We enjoyed several of the private curated meals and the items are truly garden to table. My niece picked the kale for our salad. The photos underestimate the beauty. Great hiking. The Sierra Sur has rivers, and waterfalls and gorgeous vistas with kind people. Wish I could have stayed longer.
- Marcela (10/5): The host and his family are extremely nice, the food they cook is insane, the inca terraces to grow food, the view, the - The entire place is a dream, the pics dont show the real beauty! It was a dream the minute we opened the door. We loved everything
- Chelsea (10/5): Exceptional - It was peaceful and beautiful. The room itself is stunning with breathtaking views. Opy and Alejandro were friendly and very attentive. The food was phenomenal. We felt like we were with friends.
- Perry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dorthea (10/5): Our stay was fantastic! The food was exceptional, the views were magnificent, Opie, Alejandro, and Marion were the most - The property was absolutely beautiful.
- Nataniel (10/5): Fantastic stay- would have stayed longer if I could have - Casa Chuparrosas in San Mateo offers a delightful experience that beautifully combines stunning interior design with exceptional hospitality. The interiors are thoughtfully curated, featuring a harmonious blend of modern aesthetics and traditional elements that create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Both Opy and Alejandro truly elevate the experience with their remarkable cooking skills. Each meal is a culinary delight, showcasing fresh ingredients and meticulous presentation. Their hospitality shines through as they make every guest feel welcomed and valued, ensuring a truly personalized experience.
The overall comfort of the stay at Casa Chuparrosas is unparalleled. The cozy ambiance, paired with the attentive service from Opy and Alejandro, makes for a memorable getaway. They provided invaluable local insights to great walks in the nearby valley and we felt like we were welcomed guests in their home. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a blend of comfort, style, and exceptional hospitality.
- Paola (10/5): A dream stay to reconnect with nature and enjoy incredible food - Our stay in San Mateo Río Hondo was magical from start to finish. The energy of the place was peaceful and uplifting, and our hosts, Marian, Ale, and Opy, made us feel like family from the moment we arrived. Their warmth and passion can be seen into every detail, creating an unforgettable experience.
The food was a highlight, with everything harvested from their garden—a true luxury. Marian’s homemade pasta was outstanding (and as an Italian, I have high pasta standards). Ale’s shakshuka was the best I’ve ever had, and Opy’s tea with honey was simply divine. Every meal was a masterpiece, prepared with love and care.
The property itself was equally incredible, with breathtaking views and a beautifully decorated room complete with a cozy fireplace—perfect for cool evenings. The natural beauty and thoughtful details made every moment feel special.
What truly sets this place apart is the hospitality. Marian, Ale, and Opy’s passion for their home shines through, turning our stay into a dream. This is more than just a place to stay—it’s an experience filled with warmth, beauty, and love. We’ll treasure it forever. Absolutely anything.
- Alicia (10/5): Magical place! - Casa Chuparrosas is a magical place, your home away in the mountains, a piece of your heart that was lost. The cozy rooms with amazing decorations, Marie Anne and Opy’s warmth and kindness, and the incredibly delicious food that grows in the orchard make it such a beautiful experience. Plus, everything is sustainable and local, you can feel the love in every detail. We will come back for sure! I liked everything, really enjoyed my stay there.
- Marieke (9/5): Breath of fresh air with a dreamy view - The cabin is really beautiful, the view is breathtaking. Literally the biggest breath of fresh air. You can do some hikes, but you can also easily spend a day reading, enjoy the view and watch birds. Communication was flawless and we got help with everything we needed (rides, tips for food and anything else). Elsa was always around, she is super nice and made us some great food. A hammock or lounge chair to sit on the deck would be great, perhaps a cooler and coffee machine within hand reach (although I'm sure you can ask to store your water and they make you a coffee if you ask for it).
- Marine (10/5): Exceptional - The incredible view, delicious food, attention to details and coziness of the cabin ! Nothing
- Dafne (10/5): Exceptional - Everything, it was amazing, the attention of Marian and Elsa, I'm pretty sure I'll come back There was nothing I didn't like
- Jenise (10/5): A truly magical and unique stay. Every detail was so special and well thought. I honestly felt so comfortable and at ho - Everything was absolutely perfect and better than I expected. The view by far was the best view from a hotel I’ve ever had. Marian’s cooking was personal and phenomenal.
I picked this place to stay to celebrate my 40th because I felt a connection to it as soon I saw the pictures and seeing it in person was even more magical than the pictures.
Marian and my boyfriend were talking weeks prior to our stay. Little did I know he was going to propose!
It was just so special, the background was the mountains with clouds rolling by. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
We then all had an amazing cake she made us to celebrate!!! It was matcha and pistachio and I can’t remember the fruit component inside but she did decorate the outside with crystallized rose petals! Truly amazing and the most delicious cake!!
I will never forget this place and I can’t wait to go back to see Marian and enjoy her beautiful home and company. There was nothing I disliked.
- Teresa (10/5): It was an epic adventure! - Our host Marian was an amazing chef, her cooking was beyond our expectation. We were treated so well by her. She provided us with so much information that we required. Even her dog was our tour guide to the one and a half hour hike to the waterfall. There was nothing we did not like. Everything was just perfect. There was not anything we would change. The only one thing which is no fault of the host may be the roosters making all their noise early at 5:30am
- Michelle (10/5): Beautiful remote mountain cabin! - The property itself is beautiful. Remote, so a little difficult to get to - but absolutely worth it once you’re there.
Gorgeous views, great hospitality and the food is amazing!
- Don (10/5): A hidden magical gem in the beautiful, „cloud mountains“! Go there, you will not regret it! - The view is incredible. The attention to detail is superb. The standard in mexican terms is very good.
The food was quite expensive, but by far the best food we had in whole Mexico. They use organic vegetables from their own garden. It is a wonderful, magical place in a stunning, remote location. The service, both from the owner and the staff is world-class! -
- Anonymous (10/5): Don’t hestitate to stay here - Great view. Great style. Comfortable and cozy
- Heidi (8/5): Unique private chalet with a beautiful view - A beautiful chalet with an amazing view. The location is only one chalet and a kitchen.
The room has a double bed, two single beds, a small bathroom and a fire place. An eye for details. Everything was nicely decorated and a lot of blankets to keep us warm when the temperature drops in the evening.
The chalet is off the beaten path so best to arrive before it gets dark.
We enjoyed a very nice dinner and breakfast. The dishes were beautifully served and they tasted very good. Both were served at the large outdoor table just outside our room. During our stay internet was not available.
The lady that helped us only spook Spanish, which made it difficult to community and resulted in quite some miscommunication during dinner. They send the menu a few days before, but since we didn't have internet we couldn't check it anymore. Although the food was very good, we feel the prices are too high. A (delicious) steak for 45 US$ is just too expensive as well as a 20US$ yoghurt for breakfast.
There are no alternatives for dinner in the direct area so you have to decide beforehand what you want to do.
- Alain (8/5): Top - Marian is a great host (and a great cook !) and Casa Chuparrosas a wonderful place to discover the area. Everything
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb - The location is nothing short of spectacular and the room itself showcases the natural beauty of the surroundings exquisitely. Marian is a gracious host and prepared a wonderful dinner for us.
