Guest Reviews
- Elizabeth (7/5): Clean, comfortable good value for money. Very friend staff - Clean, comfortable room No bedside lamp switch, or power plug near bed
- Su Jung (8/5): -
- Rodney (8/5): Ok - Bed was comfortable, bathroom / toilet very roomy. Shower rose had a water restictor, the water pressure was not much more than a dribble. The owners should trust their guests not to over extent their shower time. A descent shower is important when travelling.ok
- Luke (2/5): -
- Claire (7/5): - Easy check in after hours The hotel offers a continental breakfast but you can’t access it from the room you have to wait until 8am from downstairs kitchen to be open and travellers & workers need to leave before 8am.
- Adam (2/5): Noisy and frustrating - Good location bed was comfortable owner was nice Toilet leaking water onto the bathroom floor and fellow patrons were loud from 7-9 and 12am-4am I got next to no sleep and I had next to no sleep. Extremely annoying. Would probably not chance staying there again
- Catherine (1/5): Don’t fall for the photos on this site they are totally deceiving I have updated what we experienced - Location The bathroom door would not close, the carpet was badly stained. The room was overall very disappointing
- Kalee (5/5): Room needs to be addressed - Bed was so comfortable No plates to heat food, microwave didn’t work anyway, wifi too slow caused by weather, toilet seat broken, TV not working
- Tom (9/5): - Location would be nice for a makeover
- Kerryn (9/5): Great location. Friendly staff. Good quality budget accommodation - We had a balcony room. Easy location
Off street parking was a bonus too The bathroom in our suite was very narrow. Knees touched the wall when on the loo
- Jarrod (10/5): Fantastic - Highly recommended - Tia was amazing. Very helpful and willing to offer assistance Nothing
- Kerryn (10/5): -
- Cameron (8/5): - Location was great.
Facilities were good and the beds were extremely comfortable. The TV connection was very slow and a bit of a hassle that organized.
- katrina (10/5): -
- Chandy (6/5): - Location Dogs urine smell in rooms
- Kriti (8/5): Customer service was good. The room was well organised. - The room was clean and tidy. The lights were bright . Nothing. Everything was good
- Stacey (4/5): OK but not going back. Sorry. - Good halfway stop between home and Adelaide. Staff excellent, bedding was clean Carpets awful with dog poo on stairs. Rather old don’t believe the photos.
- Emma (7/5): -
- Brooke (1/5): - Arrived to no hot water and no response from staff during or after my stay.

- guang (6/5): -
- Janine (8/5): Great location. Just what we needed. - Comfortable and great location N/a
- Martin (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): - The location Breakfast was not available until 8 am! I needed to leave at 7.30am. Not helpful 😒
- Cliff (6/5): Needs work - Location Bathroom
, taps didn’t work to get hot water
- Kay (6/5): Value for money. - The Hotel no longer serves food or beverages except for breakfast, but it is a very old historical building with feeling that you have stepped back in time. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was great and the room was very specious. We loved being able to dine out on the balcony overlooking the main street. We didn't have the breakfast that was included because they were late opening the dining room
- Vicki (10/5): Comfortable, clean rooms close to everything - It was close to the pub and town, bed was very comfortable and room was clean and liked the communal balcony upstairs to sit and have a drink Nothing
- Karen (8/5): Clean and comfortable in an historic old building - Lovely staff, clean and comfortable with a simple breakfast included
- Michael (8/5): - The convenience of the bistro just down the road and thr beds are very comfortable. Dee must have been unwell during our stay on 1st/2nd May, because a gentleman opened the breakfast room door just after 8.00pm. If you are travelling a long distance, it would be better to have breakfast a bit earlier.
- Annie (7/5): -
- Ian (4/5): Very disappointing. No staff. Reminded me of ‘Faulty Towers’. - The continental breakfast opened at 0800 hours. I arrived at 3 minutes past opening hour and there was only one minuscule scrap of bread available. I went to the reception area to find more bread, but no staff member was around. The advertised hours for staff were from 0800 hours. Very slack customer service. I made a cup of tea and went for a walk instead. Tap on hand basin was broken, shower faucet had collapsed against the wall, requiring manual handling to direct water. Bathroom door did not close properly. Multiple stains from burns or spilt food on carpets at top of stairs. Overall impression was of non existent maintenance, or hotel staff did not care.
- Bradley (1/5): - Definitely not the broken tv or the lady behind the front desk. The no hot water. The no refund when we didn’t even stay the night the broken tv or the lady behind the front desk. The no hot water. The no refund when we didn’t even stay the night
- Leonie (10/5): -
- Donna (7/5): -
- Troy (8/5): Nice stay at Hay - Nice accomodation to stay for a night. Nothing fancy but had everything you need. Got upgraded to king room with veranda access which was nice. Carpet edges a bit worn on bathroom entry.
- Ryan (10/5): -
- Andrew (7/5): Comfortable and affordable. - The balcony. Comfortable. Good value for money. TV didn’t work properly. Toilet had an odd smell. It was clean but just odd smelling.
- Amanda (10/5): Very comfortable and clean with friendly and professional staff. - Very clean and comfortable and the lovely lady at the front counter was very helpful and professional.

- Craig (8/5): - Very nice , watching the sunset , eating great pizza ,from shop down the street, on the balcony. Was a bit worried about slippery tiles in shower . Great for the price .
- Elizabeth (9/5): - Very nice and clean
- Dragana (7/5): -
- Paul (8/5): - Exceptionally clean. Very quiet. Convenient location. Upon arrival had thought it had closed down. Panicked for a moment until we realised it was only the pub side of the premises that was closed.
- KP (1/5): Won’t be returning - Nothing Room smelt of bleach
No lift . This should have been explicit in booking.com. We struggled with our luggage
Carpets were filthy
Overall disgusting and disappointing
- eric (10/5): - Value was good. Pleasant staff
- Stephen (1/5): -
- Stuart (5/5): - Bed was clean Carpets and hotel did not appear clean and in need of modernisation.
- Debra (4/5): Ok for 1 night - The beds were clean and comfortable Walls had scratches all over them, carpet extremely old and worn, TV didnt work,
- Gayle (9/5): Short comfortable - Love the old hotel style
- Jeanne (8/5): - Staff very helpful and friendly, great check in convenience. Rooms a good consistent standard. The bathroom door in rm 111 does not slide closed which awkward when multiple people in room.
- Eman (10/5): -
- JOHN (6/5): - sSayed earlier as was not impressed . Got a larger room this time and felt more comfortable. Need to be at least 2 chairs in the room to sit down. The place has the prospects of being really good but needs a bit more money spent eg carpet was very poor and door was difficult to open. Door and carpet and the service re getting key into the room.
- Kubilius (5/5): Comfortable bed, Old pub converted , requires some minor upgrades. - Location was good. Breakfast could be served earlier as this is as town that people pass thru. We got up and ready to head out before 7 am . Breakfast start time is quite late 8 am. Carpets are a bit beyond , Sliding door to ensuite was broken, stuck open half way. Curtains hanging of the rod. Door to room from passage let in an amazing amount of light all night, as gaps were large all round, looked like a picture frame.
- Pequita (5/5): -
- Cheryl (7/5): Clean and comfortable. - We stayed for one night on our way from Sydney to Adelaide and then again on our way back home. The property is clean and fresh. Good for a stopover.
- Tyson (5/5): -
- Karen (7/5): Comfortable, clean convenient but needs to be recarpeted - Considering the distance most people are travelling, Breakfast starts to late. We wanted to be on the road before 8am barely any carpet on the floor, carpet in hall way was very stained
- Marty (6/5): -
- Kinetickel (7/5): - The Price. The Bed.
- Cassie (10/5): Would stay again. - Close to everything for our overnight stay.
- Nick (6/5): Cheap but not particularly cheerful - Friendly staff. Confusing name (it's actually the Commercial Hotel), not a traditional motel as expected with parking in front of a room, this is a converted hotel, there is only very bright downlights in the room (not even a lamp).
- Rosemary (1/5): -
- Sezgin (8/5): Location staff and bed excellent - Very friendly staff and comfortable bed Bathroom can be bigger
- Margaret (8/5): -
- David (8/5): - Clean & tidy Internet access poor
- Samad (1/5): -
- David (7/5): -
- Celine (5/5): If you are looking for a comfortable sleep go elsewhere, otherwise if you can deal with a disturbed sleep for 1 night it - Appreciated the late check in since we didn’t get there until 9pm at night. The beds could use a topper as it felt like sleeping on a concrete slab. For people with aging backs it’s not great. Please invest in some more comfort for your beds.
- Christopher (1/5): - Very bad experience staying here for a night and even didn’t allow us to take shower or use toilets in the morning Very bad and not recommend to stay
- david (3/5): nice meals in pub across road. - was once a very nice hotel. beautiful old biulding. renovated to high standard. breakfast was ok. the upkeep has been poor . room door replace and you could look in from outside. bathroom hand basin mixer loose fixed in with silicon ..very wobbley.. overall needs maintainence person with skill.
- Luda (8/5): - Great location. Enough parking. Easy check-in. Place looks a bit run down. Neither motel no room look like the pictures.
- Shane (1/5): We actually could not stay as the place smelt terrible, refund printed to claim from booking.com - This place is unfortunately falsely advertised and has nothing to like. Room 110 was allocated, we noticed the terribly stained carpet on the way to the room. The lock was broken to the room, we entered to find a huge wet/stain around the fridge. It smelt like a wet dog.
- Julie (8/5): - The front office staff was very friendly and even offered an upgrade to our room. We've stopped here many times and enjoy the location, the staff, the beds, and the clean rooms. The upgrade wasn't generous, but having been there many times, we really like the smaller rooms with the two beds and a more appropriately sized bathroom. The bathroom in room 102 was tiny.
- David (8/5): Pleasant stay - The text giving instructions on how to get my key All good this time
- Jaime (6/5): -
- Rob (5/5): Need updating in the room - The staff nice and friendly great location to the street Ok the mattress on the bed was really worn out it had lumps and bumps in it and very uncomfortable on the edges of the bed and you could see where people sat on the edges all the time because it had no other chairs or even a table .The bathroom you couldn't even close the door as it would open up all the time and the shower head would fall down it was good for a 5 ft person but not a 6 ft
- Daniel (8/5): -
- John (9/5): Old hotel now being renovated to a motel. Excellent facilities. New carpet being installed soon. - Position and value Just what we expected
- David (7/5): -
- Ashley (3/5): Could be better, could be worse - Friendly staff, easy check in and check out process. Convenient location. Clean and updated bathroom. Good air-conditioning. The bedroom was not clean. Stained and dirty carpet, thick dust on the surfaces. The bed was positioned under the window (which had a big gap in the frame) and curtain which covered the bed in dust.
- David (7/5): A good rest at the end of a long drive - Friendly staff Toilet cistern leaked
- Bettina (6/5): Comfortable and generally ok and suited our overnight needs - Location. Price. En-suite too narrow and small. Very hard to manoeuvre.
- Janice (8/5): Very happy with stay and help with information regarding entertainment - Breakfast not available. Access to laundry and assistance with usage I prefer dark room so to be able to turn light off by front door. Fridge was very noisy and kept shutting on and off too often.
- Suzanne (8/5): -
- Neil (6/5): Apart from the cold shower the facilities and location were ok. - Location was good There was nobody at reception during the hours advertised as being opened.
I ran the shower for ten minutes but no hot water so I had a cold shower after a day of riding a motorcycle in rain (not happy Jan). Eventually (after my cold shower) the reception was staffed and they explained that I had to run the shower for 20 minutes before the hot water would arrived.
- Glenn & Julie (6/5): - The kitchen open to late to have the continental breakfast that was included in deal.
- Jimmy (8/5): - Everything Nothing
- Irene Joan (7/5): - Proxi
- Michelle (9/5): - The receptionist was brilliant, friendly and professional and very helpful. Love that breakfast was include, was a great start to the day thank you, wish more place offered breakfast like you do. Will stay here again. Love our room we were able to walk out onto the veranda.
- Janet (8/5): - Great value for money
- Cindy Stacey (1/5): - We never ended up staying, there were way to many stairs for my husband who has a,dissability. I had asked for a refund due to the circumstances as it was already paid for but they refused.
- Scott (6/5): - The reception lady was lovely and helped me when she noticed I had an injured leg and would struggle with the stairs. I do not think it is suitable for pets. No place to safely let my dog stretch her legs without going to the dog park. The carpet outside the room is stained and dirty and does not give you a good first impression. I feel breakfast should be served earlier as I had a long day and left before breakfast which I would have enjoyed, 7 am seems more reasonable.
- Gary (9/5): Old meets new in a classic Hay stopover - Located in part of the former Commercial Hotel premises, the motel facilities are an interesting blend of the old and the new. Rooms furnished simply but comfortably, a good bathroom/shower area. Relaxing in chairs on the upper story deck looking out over the town at sunset worth a definite bonus. Continental breakfast facilities available downstairs (but do check timings). Nothing truly negative springs to mind. The one thing to perhaps be aware of is the that hot water takes its time to move through a very large older building and do pay very careful attention to the correct direction of tap travel for hot water (fortunately, Reception gives instructions on check-in and these are also printed on provided paper slips as well).
- Adam (1/5): I did not stay. The entry and the room stunk. The lock on the door to the room was faulty and the key got stuck and I co - Nothing Everything
