Guest Reviews
- Peter (10/5): Beautiful cottage with views out to the beach. Lovely and quiet - Beautiful little self contained cottage in a wonderful location. Very clean and comfortable No kitchen sink but wash up facilities were provided. Did not inconvenience us
- rebecca (9/5): Nice place to stay - Quiet location near the beach Nothing
- turner (6/5): A nice stay but one night was long enough - location close to beach and town centre both an easy walk Ideal for a nights stay Property could do with being refreshed. It needs the walls having an emulsion and the woodwork needed paining.
There was also also restricted headroom in the bathroom also one of the ceiling beams were low enough to hit my head
- Eleftheriou (10/5): - Beautiful location - great for being close to the seafront.
- Guest (10/5): -

- Lotty (10/5): -
- Anthea (9/5): Great for a quick beach getaway - Couldn’t be better located for the beach, and it was clean, comfortable and dog-friendly. A very small issue is that the kettle could definitely do with descaling as it had to be cleaned a bit before use, but this is an easy fix.
- Barbara (10/5): - Beautiful location, owner very friendly had a very confortable stay.
- Gillian (10/5): - Great little place and perfectly place near the beach and high street
- Mark (9/5): - Comfortable accommodation in great location excellent so close to beach and high street with parking.
- Mellony (10/5): Overnight stay for family party at tennis club - Clean, comfortable, warm, parking available and good location. Friendly helpful owners. Nothing - need to understand no oven available and no sink but a bowl etc available to wash up coffee cups.
- Tracy (10/5): -
- Tony (10/5): -
- carol (10/5): Welcoming sea views close to town - A sink to wash up welcoming
- Max (9/5): Ideal for a short break. Ideal location near beach and near town and facilities. - Had a bit of trouble getting the TV to work properly. Only de caffeinated coffee sachets!
- Mark (10/5): Best place to stay in friton!!! - It was lovely and clean l, very cosy and convenient would 100% stay again me and my partner were over the moon with it Cant really fault the property its worth every penny i suppose if i was to say only couple things but its not major would be to have a sink to wash up and perhaps a cooker
- Lynch (9/5): Warm cosy and comfortable - Location was amazing. The kitchen was not really a kitchen. No sink and no cooker.
- Sandra (10/5): Great stay - Very convenient Outside light not working
- Eleanor (8/5): Comfy but basic - Fabulous location for the beach, Frinton centre & the tennis club.
The studio was comfy & quiet, great shower & comfy bed. I'd maybe misread in the details that the only cooking facilities was a microwave, toaster & kettle. The washing up facilities was a bowl filled via the bathroom tap.
There were great restaurants nearby though in Frinton & Walton on the naze for dinner & breakfasts.
- Rick (10/5): Clean, comfortable in an excellent location with views of the sea and close to amenities -
- JC (8/5): - Privacy. TV To complicated,..for us.No light to front door passage,or key safe.
- Jean (7/5): Rather a long way from shops. - Location excellent. Quiet and great walks. Problems with shower. TV could have had more detailed instruction.
- Julian (9/5): -
- Alan (8/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): Excellent - Lovely location, clean and cosy cottage. Host Andy was helpful and welcoming.
- Ricky (7/5): Good location near beach and amenities - Clean pretty basic very good location N/A

- Kim (10/5): Fabulous find in Frinton! - Amazing host who checked on us and made recommendations.
Great facilities, roomy and airy with amazing parking. Literally a hop, skip and jump to the beach and local amenities!
Could recommend this spot enough. I will be back!
- Raymond (9/5): For a one night stop over it is perfect - Perfect for a couple of nights
- Steven (10/5): -
- Dale (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (10/5): Delightful and comfortable annex right by the seafront - perfect for our stay - Super easy to park and access the property. It so happened our host was in the driveway when we arrived and he was lovely and welcoming. The room and bathroom were spotless and the bed comfy. The small seating area and TV was an extra bonus. The shower was very luxurious. A few of the sockets did not work but there were ample so it was easy to make it work.
- Hornagold (8/5): Very good - Location No sink
- Sheila (7/5): Pleasant and good location for shops and restaurants in Frinton. Walton services rather 'Naff' - Location excellent for Sea and shops and restaurants. It was as furnished as stated stated in the 'blurb'.
Friendly Host and helpful if required. Clearer direction to find the entrance upon arrival.
While it had a kitchenette it did NOT have a Kitchen sink! A bowl, dish liquid and tea towel were provided, this to be done in the bathroom, in a small basin, ok for a short stay! Would have appreciated paper towels and basic salt & pepper.
Would have liked better information on how the TV & Shower worked
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good - It was lovely. Clean. Sea view. Good position. Good to have off street parking comfortable bed and little lounge area. No proper kitchen. Had kettle and microwave crockery, cutlery etc. But No sink nor cooker. All water had to come from bathroom which had a washing up bowl with T towel sponge and fairy liquid on cupboard NEXT TO THE TOILET !
Could have done with instructions on how to work the T V.
- Paul (9/5): We loved our short stay at Mermaid cottage and hope to stay again. - Excellent location with sea views and a short walk to shops and restaurants. Comfortable bed and sofa and good shower.
Met by friendly host and easy communication.
- O'brien (8/5): Brief, but very enjoyable. - Location is excellent. Frontline access to the beach & greensward. Very quiet. Very clean. Hotel like services. Everything was as described. A little bijou, no kitchen sink.
- Nicola (10/5): We had a brilliant time at mermaid cottage lovely beach walks and drinks and meals all within walking distance. - Great location, very clean and cosy place to stay. An iron in the property would be good.
- Richard (10/5): Perfectly placed property - Very comfortable and cozy property, situated perfectly for the beach and local amenities. Joy was the perfect host as well. We stayed to watch the sunrise on summer solstice on the beach, which was incredible. Would definitely come again.
- Alice (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location opposite beautiful beach , 10 mins walk to shops and restaurants. Nothing
- Jennifer (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb - Helpful hosts. Handy position, great for an overnight stay.
- Elisabeth (8/5): A good location for exploring the coast and nature reserves of Essex. - Close to the sea yet within easy walk of shops/cafes, with off road parking, this was an excellent location. Owners went out of their way to accommodate our needs. With a kitchenette, you have to accept you are going to do the washing up in the bathroom basin, but it always feels a bit odd.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Location was perfect, the hosts were lovely and very welcoming
- Sandra (9/5): A real treat near the sea and no cooking what a great way to spend a week. - So near to the sea front, hosts Andy & Sue were fantastic, very clean and tidy. For all ladies is was brilliant because there was no cooker only a microwave so you had to eat out YES YES!!making it a real lovely break from the norm. Nothing
- Jason (8/5): Very good - Clean, comfortable and in a great location just a couple of minutes walk from the beach If self catering the lack of a hob can limit your meal choices.
- Gwyn (9/5): Perfect location and great property for short stay - Location fantastic, clean and very friendly and approachable owners who are next door if anything required Lack of sink in kitchen area felt odd but won’t stop me going back
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Simon (9/5): Very good - No instructions how to get television working
- Anthea (9/5): Great for an overnight stay - Cosy, comfortable, pet-friendly and great location right opposite the beach. With the kitchen appliances provided, it’s possible to prepare simple meals. Perhaps it was my misunderstanding, but it could be made clearer on the check in instructions/signage that you have to walk down to the end of the side of the house for the lock box - it’s not the one by the front door.
- Hardy (10/5): Excellent hosts. Comfortable property. Accommodating hosts - Very lovely hosts Nothing
- Keeley (10/5): Perfect weekend get away for a couple. - Mermaid Cottage is a quaint little self contained unit, which had everything we needed for an over night stay. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well laid out. I particularly enjoyed the shower! A short walk up to the high street (10 min) and a stones throw to the beach. The lack of cooking and proper washing up facilities would put me of staying longer than a couple of nights, but if your not intending to cook or are happy to use the microwave provided a longer stay for others might be fine. The hosts were super helpful, we didn't have an iron and they dropped theirs of for us to use at short notice, super grateful! Overall a lovely stay and we will be coming again in the future.
- Angela (9/5): Perfect little place for a Couple or Single person to stay for a night or two - Cosy, comfortable & perfect location.
Off street parking N/A
- Richard (10/5): Lovely stay - Location was great & very clean nice. Nothing all good
- Steve (9/5): Superb - Superb location
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Oliver (9/5): Superb - Very clean, lovely comfortable bed just like the photos.
- Simone (7/5): Lovely little hideaway. - Great location and lovely little place, so good to see the sea out of the window. Very comfortable and peaceful. Felt like a real get away. Clean and fresh. Really missed a sink in the kitchen area. The lift up cupboard doors were lethal - we’re short so couldn’t get them to lock open and so they smash down on your head. Couldn’t find any instructions for how to use the heating or TV - so could only access iPlayer on someone called Rita’s account.
- John (8/5): No cooking, simple place good location, house annex own door - Location No cooking facilities (onpy microwave and kettle and toaster), no bath tub. I knew it was shower only but didnt realise there was no way to cook anything
- Kayleigh (9/5): Superb - Everything we needed was there and the apartment was lovely and clean
- Stuart (9/5): Cosy place. - Ideally situated.
Cosy place to stay. TV didn't work.
- Peter (9/5): Superb - Everything was nice and well appointed. One set of power sockets on the breakfast bar did not work, and the TV did not have an aerial fitted so could only be watched on Internet. Also, finding the property in the first place was difficult as the sat nav directions indicated a building across the road.
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (9/5): Excellent stay in beautiful accommodation right by the beach would definitely stay again - Beautiful location lovely and warm on arrival No kitchen sink no live TV channels
- Jacqueline (10/5): Great location - Warm,Cosy. Excellent shower. Conveniently located by the sea and short walking distance from the centre.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, perfect location
- Mary (10/5): Lovely stay - Location very good. Beside the sea and very quiet.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Great place to have a little new year break. Warm, cosy and welcoming. We plan to return in better weather as we love F - Absolutely lovely little place - perfect for a night or 2 N/A
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Georgina (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely everything. What a hidden gem this is. We will definitely be returning
- Karen (8/5): Very good - Great location for us as we were visiting family who also live along the seafront. Very cosy, good parking.
Very spacious, would there again. Would have liked a light outside the apartment side entrance, as it was very dark when we arrived and we had to use our phones to find they key lock and put in the code.
- Alison (8/5): Fabulous Frinton - Great location, warm and comfy. Easy walk to the beach and shops. Parking space. Good value. Really, really quiet. Easy to find. Felt like being a family guest.
Comfy bed.
The annexe is really only suitable for one or two people. It took a while to work out the telly (not really a problem).
Limited kitchen facilities would make more difficult for catering for longer stays.
- Cat (10/5): Amazing location close to beach and town which was perfect for us visiting relatives ! Also dog friendly which was a hug - Location and privacy from hosts Nothing suited our needs for one night stay
- Alexandra (8/5): Very good - Absolutely wonderful location with sea views and very close to town and to nature reserve. Sunrise was visible from the window in the morning.
Spacious but cosy.
Very clean and comfortable soft furnishings and bed (so clean I wouldn't have known it was pet friendly).
Very quiet and restful with curtains that cut out all light.
Great shower.
Easy to park.
Excellent value for money. No kitchen sink so had to use washing up bowl in bathroom sink. This was the worst bit of the stay and just bizarre.
Although it's nice that milk was provided, please provide this in sealed unused container rather than an old mineral water bottle.
Bathroom a bit dated and unfinished round shower tray.
- Lopes (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location.
Quiet too.
Its right by the beach ,walking distance to shops and restaurants.
- Robert (5/5): It was okay. Expensive for what it is. - The location was really good. It is an odd set up but could be a lot better with some thought. Cleanliness was an issue. Shower head, bathroom tiles, books/ornaments. Minimal television programmes but we did not watch anyway because the remote control was filthy so did not want to touch.
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely, cute property with everything we needed -
- Erica (9/5): Fantastic location and comfortable, spacious accommodation. - Communicative, friendly hosts.
Fantastic location - can see the sea from the living room area window and easy to park there.
It's a spacious studio nicely decorated with large, comfy sofa, cushions, rugs, large screen TV, comfortable bed mattress, good size bathroom with spacious shower.
Soft towels provided.
Instant coffee sachet, fresh milk in fridge. Despite the following comments the positives far outweighed the negatives!
Bed linen felt tired, though certainly clean, and pillows were thin and a little stale smelling.
No sink in kitchen area which felt a bit strange, so had to use bathroom basin for any washing up. Plastic tub provided.
Room had windows open when I arrived and smelled fine, but after closing windows overnight, a drains smell was apparent in the bathroom.
- Helen (9/5): Would like to return next year - Excellent location and dog friendly.
Perfect for two adults for one night.
Very comfortable and cosy/homely, lovely shower. Duvet was a bit too warm, personal preference
- Helen (10/5): A very pleasant stay, great location and warm and friendly hosts! - Great location, dog friendly, accommodating hosts
- Judith (9/5): Superb - Location right near the beach and not far from town was great
- Edward (9/5): Superb - Clean and comfortable. Great location for the beach.
An easy space to relax in. Throughly enjoyed our stay there.
- David (10/5): excellent - all of it
- Max (8/5): Very good -
- Miguel (10/5): Fantastic location, clean with great facilities and vital parking. Very much looking forward to visiting again -
- Brian (10/5): A lovely place to stay - Location, comfort, parking, Would need better kitchen facilities if you were saying longer than a couple of days and did not want to eat out every day
