Guest Reviews
- claire (9/5): Absolutely loved staying at Burnside cottage. - Burnside cottage is comfortable, clean and fresh, beautifully decorated and furnished. Has a nice enclosed garden for our dog to run around in and set in stunning surroundings by the river. Felt like home and wanted to stay longer, will be booking again. Nothing at all.

- peter (10/5): A lovely, homely cottage in a peaceful location. - The location was perfect for us. Down a quiet lane with a beck running behind the property. It was adjacent to excellent walks and bridle paths. A very minor problem was the heating was mainly by storage radiators but this did not detract from the property.
- Michelle (10/5): Great stay! - Really well stocked cottage, comfy beds, cosy front room with tonnes of games and literature about the local area. Less than a 10 min drive into Whitby and close to Goathland. Lovely bread, tea, milk and cookies hamper on arrival. Great bakery in village. Thank you for a lovely stay!
- Hannah (9/5): Thankyou for a great stay! - Lora was a great host, got the property ready early and left us a lovely selection of bakery items and milk. Great selection of books to read in the living room and games. Lovely set up in the kids room, our daughter loved the toys and books. We found the front of the house to be really cold even with boosting the heating so we had the electric fire on most of the time.
- John (9/5): -
- Adrian (10/5): Beautiful cottage - Beautiful and spacious cottage in a great location. Had everything one needed including bread, cookies and milk. There were games if you needed them. Also a very useful guide/welcome pack. I would say this cottage was the best place I have stayed in. Shame it was only for a couple of days. Leaving!
- Tanya (10/5): - This cottage is fantastic, very homely. The owners have truly thought if everything, even pet bowls and a towel. It really felt like a home from home...really relaxing. We didn't have children with us, but the children's room was gorgeous and had toys and books too.The food package we found on our arrival was most welcome, and we visited Botham bakery to sample their amazing range of bread and cakes. Also excellent location to explore this beautiful part of the world. Would definitely recommend, and will book again.
- Steven (10/5): Lovely cottage. Really nice extra touches too. -
- Trudie (10/5): - The cottage was absolutely beautiful, and the size of the garden was an unexpected pleasant surprise, perfect and safe for our dogs.
Lots of nice walks from the doorstep, and a short drive in to Whitby.
Very comfy beds and beautifully furnished with everything we needed for our break. A lovely welcome pack was provided and the bread and cookies were fresh and delicious. Perfect stay thank you x N/A

- nat (10/5): Outstanding - The property was brilliant we had our 1 year old and our cocker spaniel and everything was catered for perfectly! Everything was thought about and little touches really made a difference, fresh bread and milk etc children’s toys, dog bowls cannot speak highly enough of Burnside Cottage and wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend to others! Nothing whatsoever

- Ruth (10/5): Great cottage in lovely area - The property is tastefully decorated and equipped with everything you need. It has an attractive garden with seating areas and has off road parking. It is well situated for walks in the area and easy to get to places in the area without needing to use the car as there is a regular bus service to Whitby and also a railway station. Nothing
- Kathleen (10/5): Really enjoyed the stay and booked a bit longer for next year. - The quietness and lovely garden. Great for the dog and good local walks. Nothing!

- Jen (10/5): Cosy and comfy place to stay! - Beautifully decorated, well cared for and maintained. Cosy and relaxing. Spotlessly clean. Everything was just lovely, and we appreciated the loaf of fresh bread and milk. We didn’t have kids with us but the cottage had a nice room for little ones and toys too. Nothing at all. Was perfect.

- Janetb117 (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (10/5): I booked this cottage for me and my parents. My parents are aged 78 & 80 and found the cottage perfect for them to n - The home comforts and location. N/A as everything was wonderful
- Catherine (10/5): Fantastic place to stay! - Communication from the owner was great.
The cottage was beautiful with everything we needed, including a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. There were even dog bowls, a dog towel and poo bags. The whole place was beautifully clean and the beds were very comfortable. The cottage is in a good location for visiting Whitby, Scarborough and Goathland. Wish we'd booked for longer! Nothing.
- Janet (10/5): Exceptional - Arrived to fresh milk fresh bread and nibbles left to greet us. It was a bungalow so no stairs, which for us was welcoming. Quite area. Can only think of a minor one, As 2 adults in separate bedrooms, I got the children's bottom bunk, which towels were, but I only got small bath towel where the double bed room got bath sheet. But no big deal.
- Wayne (10/5): Very clean and comfortable cottage. The best we have stayed in - The best holiday home we have ever stayed in. very clean and well equipped, and decorated to a very high standard. a safe garden for children and pets. We didnt have children with us but the childrens room looked lovely, with bunk beds and plenty of books and toys. Our dog was very safe in the garden and a nice river walk just over bridge. Also an excellent butchers in the village with ready home cooked meals. A steep walk to shops, but thats not the properties fault and others may find it ok.
- Anna (10/5): Whitby and North Yorkshire Moors - We stayed only for three nights and wished it was longer. The house is very cosy and very thoughtfully equipped - to the smallest of details like reading glasses, children's toys and books and dog bowls. The location is fantastic for exploring the coast and the Moors - we enjoyed the walk to the local Botham's bakery, a trip to Whitby, a walk to the Falling Foss waterfall, as well as visits to Robin Hood's Bay and Goathland.
- Joanne (10/5): Beautiful Cottage - Beautiful cottage with an enclosed garden that my dog was able to roam around in without escaping. The welcome pack of bread, milk, tea and biscuits was such a lovely gesture too.
We've stayed in a few different cottages in Whitby over the years and this is probably our favourite and will definitely be booking again. The entrance/exit to the property is on a blind bend so you have to be extremely careful of oncoming traffic if you need to turn right. We had one of our family members stand at the other side of the road keeping a look out so the driver could get out safely.
- Sharpe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dawn (10/5): We had a very peaceful time. - Everything
- Annette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely little cottage in a beautiful location A bit cold in the bathroom!
- Caroline (8/5): We enjoyed our few days there. - The main bedroom was lovely, the bed was really comfortable and was decorated beautifully. The property itself was very pleasant. The heating. Not very good, was pretty cold. The sofas could have been a bit bigger and more comfortable. They were not on a great position for watching the tv.
- Leanne (10/5): Home away from home! - Clean, homely, cosy and close to nearby walks. N/A
- Karen (10/5): Cosy, quiet, peaceful. Lovely! - Cosy, peaceful, quiet, lovely! Everything thought of, from welcome pack of bread, tea, coffee, milk and very nice biscuits, to lots of little bathroom and general extras. Would be great for kids too. So many games and things to do.
If you want a walk up towards the River Esk side of the village, the public footpath to the left of the cottage is a pretty walk by the brook, avoids the long hill up. You’ll not avoid hills later, of course, but is a pretty nature walk. nothing
- Selina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frankie9555 (10/5): Exceptional - I had an incredible stay at Burnside Cottage! The charming atmosphere, picturesque surroundings, and cozy interior made for a perfect getaway. The cottage was immaculate and well-equipped, and the host's attention to detail truly impressed me. I loved exploring the beautiful countryside nearby and returning to relax by the fireplace in the evenings. I can't wait to visit again – it was an unforgettable experience!
Burnside Cottage is a hidden gem. The moment I arrived, I was greeted by the tranquil sounds of the nearby stream and the sweet scent of flowers. The cottage itself is like something out of a storybook, with its charming stone exterior and rustic decor.
Inside, I found everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was well-equipped, allowing me to prepare delicious meals with ease. The living room was cozy and inviting. The bedroom was comfortable, and I slept like a log each night, thanks to the peaceful surroundings.
One of the highlights of my stay was exploring the surrounding countryside. There were plenty of hiking trails and scenic spots to discover, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts like me.
The host was incredibly hospitable, providing helpful recommendations for local activities and dining options. It's clear they take pride in ensuring their guests have a memorable experience.
All in all, my stay at Burnside Cottage was a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's the perfect place for a romantic getaway or a peaceful retreat. I left feeling rejuvenated and already planning my next visit
- Denise (9/5): Superb -
- Andrea (9/5): Very comfortable and lovely quirky cottage - Very clean and lots of nice little touches. Lovely modern layout of cottage. Nice accessible garden and secure for dogs. Cottage felt a little damp and musty smell when first arrived but didn’t spoil our stay
- Jeanie (10/5): nice chilled out wkend home from home - lovely clean everything you needed , left milk, bread and biscuits nice touch, good area near to coastal places everything was good
- Neil (9/5): Superb cottage - Superb cottage. Very well equipped. Peaceful. Clean. Nice location, and good base for exploring. Good communication with the host, and she met our needs of an early check-in due to travelling early from another holiday let. The lovely fresh loaf, biscuits, and milk were a nice touch. Thank you for a lovely 2 night break. Would have preferred lighter summer bedding in the main bedroom, as it was a warm weekend and the bedding was quite thick. But that's just my preference and it didn't spoil our stay.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Such a beautiful cottage in an amazing place. There’s lots of local walks and places to visit close by. Its just the per - Burnside Cottage is absolutely beautiful - we want to live here! The decor is so pretty and the garden is so quiet and peaceful with fabulous views. It’s also safe for children and dogs to play as it’s fenced in. There’s everything you need in the cottage - just as though you were at home, everything has been thought of. There was a welcome box when we arrived with milk, crisps and shortbread and the children’s bedroom has some toys to play with and books to read. My little boy didn’t touch his toys or books all week! Thank you for letting us stay and for making it a home from home.
- Lilley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): A fabulous 3 night break in a beautiful cottage with lovely surroundings! - Location was great! Only 4.5 mile walk into Whitby which was lovely. The cottage was very well set out & beautifully decorated, a welcome pack of milk, biscuits & tea bags was a lovely surprise! Bed was extremely comfy! Nothing!
- Sarah (10/5): would recommend cottage, was homely and had everything you could need, lovely finishing touches, great location to Whitb - gorgeous cottage, well equipped and clean everything was great
- Carolyn (10/5): A beautiful cottage in a great location - Great location, cleanliness and just a beautiful cottage. The cottage was well equipped and the owners had put so much effort into adding little extras for a comfortable stay including: a yummy welcome package and games and toys for the children. My 2 young daughter's loved it. Looking forward to returning soon.
- Annette (9/5): Gorgeous cottage in convenient location. - The location was great, near to Whitby, Goathland, Robin Hood's Bay, and easy to find. There was a shop nearby so we could get supplies. The house itself was beautiful, the beds were comfortable, and lots of lovely touches that made the short stay special such as a welcome basket, lots of family games that we used, nice garden views, very relaxing vibes. The place was well stocked with everything we needed. Would definitely book again if we get the opportunity. There were loads of woodlice in the house, but this is to be expected in a farm style cottage, better than spiders at least!
- Emily (10/5): A lovely, comfortable cottage with great communication from the host - The cottage was in a great location and it was a real bonus to have off road parking. It was so well equipped and was clear a lot of thought had gone into everything, we really appreciated all the extras. Thanks so much for such a lovely stay, we’ll definitely be back! Nothing :)
- Robert (8/5): lovely property and very clean however the check in and check out times need reviewing for me - clean, nice, lovely location 3pm check in but out between 8am and 10am is harsh
