Guest Reviews
- Gabriel (10/5): - Great location It is serene and quiet.
- Hope (10/5): -
- louise (8/5): -
- Mia (6/5): Was alright - It was a good central
Location It was a little scary, it wasn’t super obvious when booking that it was an old jail cell, as I didn’t realise. And the kitchenette was pretty minimal it was a microwave and kettle and the kettle was dirty but great location and nice staff. Nice clean bathrooms
- Elizabeth (9/5): A unique little guesthouse with a lovely gentle atmosphere - I would never have imagined finding such a tranquil little haven in the middle of London. The unique, tiny bedrooms in the converted cells of the old Courthouse have been designed with care and everything was immaculately clean and tidy. The garden courtyard is lovely. I really liked the fact that all profits from the guest house go to funding the good works provided by the Centre in the community. If all the rooms are occupied there could be a bit of pressure on access to the bathroom if several guests want to use it around the same time in the morning. But it wasn't a problem during my stay.
- Petra (10/5): - Muy amable la gente. Sitio muy bonito. Ubicación perfecta. A little paradise.
- Katherine (10/5): Delightful space to stay, a quiet refuge in the city - Delightful space, calm atmosphere, great location not applicable
- fiona (9/5): Stay in an old cell! In a great, quiet and safe location. - It was convenient for the SouthBank Centre and reasonably priced compared to many others. In a quiet location too, with gated access.
The rooms were small, ‘quirky’ being an old Courthouse. That frankly added to the uniqueness. The shared shower was clean and an excellent rain shower too.
There is also coffee, tea, a fridge and a microwave.
I left something in the room and Mircea from the accommodation contacted me to arrange to get it back to me. Fingers crossed I am reunited with it.
I would definitely stay here again. /
- Regina (9/5): Wonderful guest house, a safe haven in London. Will return. - The tranquility. The bathroom access and guests getting up early. Unavoidable I realise.
- Beth (8/5): Very convenient and comfotable -
- Bojan (8/5): -
- Yelena (8/5): -
- Gianluca (9/5): Awareness, respect, cleanliness and a welcoming staff - A really peaceful place to stay with such an incredible awareness in each corner of the center! Sharing a bathroom is not my favorite thing but it was actually ok at the end.
- Yelena (10/5): -
- Michael (1/5): - I arrived late in the evening. The instructions for entering the courtyard, the building and my room were very clear. When I entered my room, I found that the bedding was dirty: it had clearly been used and there were hairs belonging to previous occupants of the room. There was nothing I could do about it. It was extremely unpleasant to have to sleep in used bedding.
- Clémence (10/5): -
- Gill (8/5): Good for the short term - It was quirky, clean and comfortable At first, I felt the room was a little claustrophobic. I was however aware of the measurements of the room on booking.
- Katreana (10/5): Would stay again! - Lovely little place, not bad at all for what you pay for and a fun little experience! Bed wasn't the most comfortable
- Viktoria (9/5): -
- Louise (10/5): Quirky venue in an excellent location with helpful staff and cosy rooms! - Great location on a quiet street off the main road so whilst it was easy to get everywhere it was nice and quiet at night. It’s a quirky place to stay and it was nice to have the kitchenette and be able to use the temple facilities. Self check in was also very easy. I forgot to take ear plugs which would’ve been useful as other guests using the bathroom at night or coming in late can disturb if you’re a light sleeper.
- James (10/5): Wonderful setup for a cheap and comfortable stay in London and to be part of a meaningful centre - Great setup within the centre itself. You can see the small size of the room but for me, this was absolutely adequate and very cosy. Great to have the shared kitchenette available and everything was very simple in terms of getting in and then leaving in the morning. The shared bathroom facilities were lovely and homely.
- Devon (9/5): Overall, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. - The property was lovely and quiet. Theo, who cleaned the rooms, was very warm and welcoming. The room was small, but the perfect size for myself, and it is in a really nice area, walking distance to elephant and castle station. I imagine in the summer the courtyard would be really nice, and the facilities were very clean and comfortable. My only negative was that nobody heard the doorbell when I rang since they were in a meeting. So after a very long flight with little to no sleep and arriving early morning to have to wait outside the front door in the December chill for 20 minutes was not pleasant. But once I was let in I was put at ease by the friendly staff and the comfortable surroundings.
- Phil (9/5): My favourite London Acommodation - It's as described. There is a sense of calm, a lovely and quiet safe place. Single room, warm, clean, comfortable and affordable. Perfect for me as a solo traveller.
Staff are very low-key but lovely, helpful and friendly
10 min walk to tube station
Lotus is my first choice when i visit London.
Looking forward to my next visit I really enjoyed everything about my stay at Lotus and will be staying again .....but i'm aware that the wonderful quirkiness and all the above heart felt benifits of sleeping in a small cell would not be everyone's ideal accommodation. At the times I stayed, I rarely saw other guests could feel isolated, which i found refreshing but might not be what other travellers want... the advertising is accurate and worth checking out
- jill (9/5): - My second stay. I like how secure it feels. Very handy for the south bank and Tate Britain. Not much in the way of eateries in the area.
- David (8/5): a peaceful oasis in an urban jungle - The staff were lovely and very welcoming, I loved the tea and coffee selection but was unsure if I could have had a biscuit so didnt, it isnt the best area but its ok, however the property itself feels very secure it was a jail previously after all. elephant and castle not too far a walk on a well lit main road, I would definitely return maybe in the summer to enjoy the courtyard space, I loved staying there and would definitely return perfect, pretty much as expected- safe, kind and peaceful
- Harold Kenneth (9/5): -
- Filippo (10/5): - The structure was small but very comfrotable, located in a convenient position to move around London. I would definitely come back
- stewart (10/5): -
- julie (10/5): J’ai adoré mon séjour - Accès sécurisé et pratique
Proximité transports en commun
Propre et agréable
Kitchenette commune équipée
- Johenys (8/5): - It was in poor conditions, not as clean as I thought it was going to be. It’s still very far from the maine famous places. The hosters were very very nice and super welcoming
- John (8/5): Basic, no frills, good value for a short visit - Basic, quirky, no frills accommodation. Good value as a base for a weekend in London in a relatively quiet location. Would stay there again. Nothing major, room was tiny but this was part of the charm of my stay.
- Robin (10/5): Geweldig!
- Anja (9/5): a quirky, happy, gentle place. -
- Kodýmová (9/5): The accommodation is minimalist, but when traveling alone, you don't need much space or luxury (at least I don't - Quiet location
Cleanliness
Comfort
Minimalism
Safety Cold (I'm used to higher temperatures, and the tiles are really cold in autumn)
- Helen (10/5): -
- billy (10/5): An oasis of tranquility, and I quirky place to stay! - A beautiful and unusual place to spend the night! I loved all the little personal touches such as receiving a little welcome gift; a bar of dark chocolate, and a personalised welcome card. I loved the all natural shower gels, hand wash etc. If I had have had more time I would have done a yoga or meditation class! The staff were also kind and very helpful! Nothing.
- Chiara (8/5): -
- Jay (10/5): A wonderful escape from a typical hotel, a special treat for something out of the ordinary and slightly adventurous - It is a charming mix of all the things that I find comfortable. The staff are exceptional, friendly and always available. The spiritual nature of the entire place was uplifting. My night was spent in a “cell” leftover from when it was a courthouse and a jail, the room was small, covered in white tiles, but surprisingly cozy and again comforting there were beautiful wooden doors and woodwork throughout and I will definitely return in the future. Nothing
- Ian (6/5): All for a good cause - Easy access. Easy to find. Good cause. Very small room. Noisy neighbours showering and boiling kettles ar midnights.
- George (5/5): It was ok, the staff was good - The room was very small
- Olha (10/5): - Staying at Lotus Guest House was an extraordinary experience, one that left a lasting impression on me. I felt genuinely welcome even before check-in, thanks to the warm and detailed communication I received in advance. The check-in process itself was smooth, quick, and completely hassle-free.
The guest house is located in a safe and peaceful neighborhood, within walking distance of two metro stations and several bus stops, making it very easy to get around. It’s just a 30-minute walk to the London Eye, which made exploring the city both convenient and enjoyable.
The house is looked after with love and care, I felt it in every detail. My room, though small, was incredibly well-ventilated and cozy. The shared bathroom was spacious, always available (since there are only a few rooms, there were no queues or any inconveniences).
I was treated with great respect and kindness by the team, who were always available to help if needed, but also respected my privacy fully.
What truly makes Lotus Guest House a unique place to stay at, is the people and the mission behind the place. The revenue from the guest house goes directly toward supporting the local community and those in need. They run recovery workshops, yoga classes for refugees, support circles, and mending circles for neighbors. I was deeply touched by their values and the real impact they’re making.
100% it’s a place where you can feel connected to something greater. Thank you very-very much for letting me the part of your story.

- Sarah (10/5): Peaceful Oasis in Kennigton. - As a solo traveller, sometimes it's hard to find a balance between affordable accommodation and comfort. This wasn't the case this time!
You can tell from the moment you step in that the guesthouse is maintained with love and care. From the little gestures like the personalised note with my name and the little dark chocolate on arrival, to how incredibly friendly and helpful all the staff has been.
The place itself is incredibly tranquil and peaceful, and it definitely made my short stay in London a memorable experience.
The room is small, but has everything you need with plenty of storage, clean and comfortable bed, and even a small fan which has been incredibly helpful during the small heatwave of my trip.
The bathroom is very luminous and spotlessly clean. I really appreciated seeing eco conscious products like bamboo toilet paper from Who Gives a Crap and a range of Faith on Nature personal care products 😊
If I could give more than 5 stars I definitely would, and I'll definitely be back on my next trip to London! Nothing.
- Vladimir Khil (10/5): - Good location inside Buddhist center. Rooms are quite small but if you come there only for sleep, everything is ok. You could get tea and coffee at any time.
Nada. No tengo ninguna objeción
Die Anbindung an die Innenstadt ist super.
- Iris (10/5): Klein, fein uns sehr entspannt.
- Jan (8/5): Ideal for an overnight stay - Very clean, and had everything that you needed for a short stay. It’s very quirky, I would like to know more about the building! The bathroom although shared was clean and well equipped. Walking back at night felt rather dodgy, especially when there’s a keypad on the external gate, fortunately I was spotted by someone inside who let me in. For me, the bed was very high, I get that in a small room you need somewhere to stick your suitcase, but I found it tricky to clamber up! It was also a very noisy bed, I darent move for fear of waking everyone up!! I did rather feel that I was left to work out what was happening, but after a lot of wandering about I found my way back out.
- Brenda (9/5): -
- Hendrik (9/5): Great for a few days! - Very relaxed guest house, great for a few nights. Sure the rooms are small, but very comfortable and everything is super clean. Also, since there are only a few rooms, it feels like a private accommodation most of the time actually. Kitchenette and coffee / tea / snacks are a nice bonus!
The area is quiet and away from most tourist sites, but easily accessible and well connected to the Tube network. Also a very nice park nearby.
- Ecchima (10/5): Pleasant and cozy rooms - It was my second time staying at the Lotus Guesthouse. I like that you can choose to not talk to anyone if you don't want to, you can arrive at any time after 3pm and leave at anytime before 10am. The bathroom is shared but it's always clean and there never is any queue for the shower due to the small amont of rooms available. The rooms are small but cozy and there are free snacks and breakfast foods in the kitchen. This is my favourite hotel when I travel alone!
- Mario (8/5): Recommended! - I really liked this place. Very peaceful, the staff was friendly, the bed was comfy and super clean. Location safe. The room is very small so bear that in mind.
A bit pricey.
Not much around this area.
- Rachel (10/5): - Unique building and room. Because there is no window, the room was a little too hot in the summer but still comfortable enough
- Mo (10/5): First on my list for a London solo stay! - Absolutely wonderful little place for a solo traveler in Lambeth. Easy access to Kennington and Elephant & Castle tube stations—easy to get to central London in 20 minutes or so. The rooms are tiny but SO cute, and felt very cozy. Everything was also very clean and well taken care of, and the courtyard was lovely. Wandered into the Buddhist temple and had a lovely conversation with the young man there, who was very welcoming and friendly. I also really loved the food recommendations they have posted in the kitchenette—I tried a few and they were all delicious! The room was a little warm in the late afternoon, but this was easily remedied by the provided desk fan.
- Baiba (9/5): Good vibes for good price - Great price/performance ratio for London! The room was very small, but it was well equipped with enough place to store my things and it was also cozy. I was worried that it would be too hot, since it is an old court house and there was a heatwave in London, but it was surprisingly fine (and there was a fan as well, but I did not really need to use that). The communal areas were really clean and the garden was magnificent - a perfect place to have a calm breakfast before diving in to a city for the day. Metro and bus stops to touristy places is about 5-10 min walk away. Tate Modern was maybe 25 min walk away. The guest house is also conjoined with a Buddhist cultural center and guests have the opportunity to make use of the premises as well (i.e. library etc.). I had no time to do that, but it does make this more interesting than a standard place to stay in London. I would definitely stay here again.
- Maria (10/5): As a lone female traveller I felt very safe. -
- Clélia (8/5): Really nice place to stay in London. Calm and welcoming. I recommend - Perfect location, close to the subway stations and from the city center. The staff was really nice and accommodating It would be even better of the rooms had better blinds because it gets really light in the morning. But other than that no comment
- Pauline (8/5): Very good -
- Ella (8/5): Very good - Very clean and good setup, lovely courtyard. Room was quite warm at night
- Leah (6/5): Pleasant - I should state outright that due to a last minute change of plans, I actually spent very little time at the guesthouse. However, I appreciated the green courtyard/garden space while I was there and the price and location represented excellent convenience for my needs and reasonable value for central London. It was convenient to self check-in with no need to interact with anyone. The bed felt quite comfortable. As noted, I ended up spending little time in my room. While the bed felt comfortable, the time I did spend gave me the impression that I would have had a quite uncomfortable, stuffy night with only one small fan to keep me cool. The venue couldn't help the fact I was attending at the height of a heatwave of course but rooms that used to be prison cells were definitely not built with comfort in mind.
- Cameron (10/5): Peaceful and serene - Great location.
Super quirky and interesting history, really love the values of the property also. NA
- Wendy (8/5): Very good - Location to public transport
Felt safe
quiet
Breakfast cereal available
Fridge available
- Alexandra (8/5): Very good - Calm environment Nothing
- Clare (10/5): A haven of peace & tranquility - The ease of entry; the lovely courtyard, perfect for sitting in on a warm summer's evening.
The sense of peace and tranquility & safety. There really wasn't anything: I was staying during a very hot period in London, and it was great to have several windows open in the general areas: a little more of a breeze in my room would have been good. But I think most of London was struggling with the heat. [& a little fan was provided)
- Megan (10/5): Fantastic experience! - Really enjoyed my stay -will come back again!
- Danielle (8/5): A lovely new experience. - I loved the calm quiet nature of the Guesthouse. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
The room was very small but so comfy. I didn’t have many things so it suited me. I loved coming home to my little cell after the day away.
The kitchenette with tea and coffee was a lovely bonus.
Though it was a shared bathroom it was a really nice one. Plants and a fantastic shower.
Because I was in an unfamiliar neighborhood I got to explore things I wouldn’t have otherwise. The Garden Museum and Imperial War Museum were wonderful and I’m so glad I visited them. It was very hot in the room. The fan was appreciated but I wish there was a window to open at night.
I slept with my battery fan pointed to my face because the other fan was too loud for me.
Considering that the location was out of central London it did seem a bit pricey.
If I had been there for some of the temple activities it would be a different story.
- Mariola (9/5): Superb - Location, historic building, garden, information about local amenities, access to kitchen and tea/coffee. None
- Gabriella (9/5): Superb -
- Lydia (8/5): Very good - Beautiful room and clear communication easy enry and exit Bit hot but thanks for the fan!
- Sibanda (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jaden (9/5): Superb - Very clean and cozy spaces
- Claus (8/5): Back to basics: Perfect if you just need a bed in London. - Back to basics: Former prison cell with just what it takes: Bed, shelf, that's it! No problem as I was out all day and suitable for the night. Beautiful premises. I did not see a soul other than a small group meditating in the yard. Access by code, no staff anywhere.
- Fiona (10/5): Comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Very easily accessible with amazing staff. - Lovely place to stay. Quiet and relaxing - lovely vibe and very welcoming. Staff were fabulous and so very helpful. Nothing really problematic. The bathroom is shared but there are a small number of rooms so this was really no problem.
- Claudine (9/5): Really pleasant, peaceful and relaxing. Definitely be back! - Warm and welcome greeting and any assistance required was never an issue, so pleasant, comfortable and peaceful. Nothing
- Audrey (7/5): Good -
- Sara (8/5): Very good -
- Simona (8/5): Recommended - Love the concept behind the place, the messages embedded in the experience, and having the temple in the complex. It was also very clean and with organic products. Nothing. It was just a bit noisy when other guests were opening and closing doors at night, but this is expected due to the proximity of the rooms and the nature of the building.
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dwayne (10/5): Quirky comfortable guesthouse - I loved this guesthouse. Very peaceful and charming. I had a comfortable clean room. A great place to recharge. It’s a short walk to Kennington tube station. And there was even homemade breakfast cereal on offer. Given it’s an old courthouse it can be a bit noisy with other guests coming and going but that wasn’t completely unexpected and once they all settled down it was very quiet.
- Johannes (8/5): Very good - Nice, clean and quiet. Had everything I needed. Ideal if you just need a place to sleep. The rooms are tiny, though.
- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional -
