Guest Reviews
- michael (10/5): A very memorable one , we loved everything about our stay. - We loved everything about this place . Its special, the hosts were fantastic and extremely accomodating. The breakfast was wonderful and also the meals for dinner were delicious. A magical place. We would have stayed longer if we had the time. Our Adult son traveled with us and he has informed us he will be back when the Medievil Festavile is on. This is one place everyone should visit and stay when visiting Germany. A true treasure.
- Jan (10/5): Sehr zu empfehlen. Hat uns supper gut gefallen. -
- Sarah (8/5): Very enjoyable stay very atmospheric, and authentic. The room was huge, good hot shower . A peaceful place to sleep but - It was a spectacular castle
- Tazetdinov (10/5): Unique experience of staying in a real castle (and touring it before leaving), yet with all the typical family-run hotel - We spent a night at Katzenburg with kids before going to LEGOLAND and loved it.
Unique experience of staying in a real 900 year-old castle (and touring it before leaving), yet with all the typical family-run hotel comforts.
Playground for the kids in front of the castle.
Private parking with no car-height restriction.
Nice breakfast and tasty dinner.
Lovely hosts. Takes 40min to drive to from/to LEGOLAND but 100% worth it.
- Amanda (10/5): An amazing experience - The food was amazing and the host family were incredible. Definitely book here!
- Penny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (9/5): wonderful stay - The Family loved staying in the castle.
- Mei-jen (10/5): It’s a very special experience for staying a night in a real castle. We enjoyed our time in the castle. -
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic experience - couldn't have been happier with my stay. Nothing - all was great!!!
- Penny (8/5): Such a nice family running the place. Staff were helpful and dinner and breakfast was great. - Loved the castle that we were allowed to explore on our own after we checked in. Was like both a hotel and an excursion wrapped into one.
Breakfast was included in the price and it was fabulous. Was nothing to complain about
- Boire (10/5): Awesome castle experience - Our favorite place to stay during our 2 week trip to Germany. The castle is just as amazing as it looks in the pictures! The owners are great!
- Jackie (10/5): Great Experience - Service was exceptional, from helping us with our luggage to made to order eggs. The room was plenty large enough for 3 adults, no complaints there. We didn't spend much time in the room, but it would have been nice to have more comfortable seating choices.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Regina (1/5): Rude. Disappointing. Never again. - Quirky Most unfriendly staff I’ve ever come across in the 50odd years that I’ve been travelling the world over.
- Gareth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (10/5): Unique German Experience - The castle is beautiful. It has been thoughtfully restored. The rooms are definitely not high-end or modern, but they are quaint and quite large. All of the staff was so kind and the Knight’s Dinner was so much fun. Just a caution this is not a big US Tourist attraction- some of the staff speak English, but the tours and entertainment are all in German. We didn’t mind even though none of us speak German well. There is an English guidebook for the Castle and we just toured on our own and loved it. The Dinner was a bit more challenging, but honestly it was just fun to be there and the food was delicious. We just drank a lot of beer and laughed with everyone and had a blast! There really was not anything not to love. There are a lot of stairs, so not ideal for anyone with mobility issues.
- Gunnar (1/5): THE OWNER BOUGHT A CASTLE AND PUT A KING IN HIS BELLY - It is a medieval castle, adapted for a hotel, in a unique location in Germany (romantic route).
Upon our arrival we were well received by a gentleman at reception. Unfortunately our stay was disappointing.
The hotel owner closes the kitchen at 6:30 pm, and there is no option to enter the hotel or nearby.
The room has extremely simple and worn furniture, there isn't even an armchair.
Cleaning leaves something to be desired.
At breakfast there was only one option of apple fruit, but they were overdone (almost rotten).
When it was time to leave, the staff and owners ran away so they didn't have to help us with our bags.
- Anne (10/5): Delightful - Everything
- Stefka (9/5): Had a lovely evening at the restaurant’s patio meeting some lovely folks from the area who all came to celebrate the St. - Authentic medieval vibe, location, non-touristy, service
- Birgit (9/5): Superb -
- Marco (10/5): Stunning location, friendly hosts, and good food. - Excellent location, friendly hosts, and good food. Best of all was that you could explore the castle on your own after visiting hours, which is a huge perk as a hotel guest. I loved it, I'll be back!
- Jens (9/5): Great place for those who like a romantic stay in an old castle but with modern comfort. - Me and my son made a tour around Fränkische Alp to look at castles and other historical landmarks. We also stayed in some of the castles. We were focusing especially on castles with a more "medieval" appearance rather than later palaces. Burg Katzenstein was a wonderful place to stay. It had everything we were looking for. The restauration had been made very nicely keeping the medieval character. The castle also included nice museum parts, and everything from a quite scary tower (the stairs felt as from the days the castle was built) to an equally scary dungeon (entered through a narrow tunnel). The bedroom was nice, very spacious, light and clean. Very nice staff (but it helped to know some German). Nice breakfast and good choice also for food for dinner. Good location only 20 min by car from lovely Nördlingen. Nice, large, firm kingsize beds. Considering the very large size of the room (nice!) the downside is that it felt a bit sparsely furnished. We lacked a bed table, bed lamp, and maybe some more furniture to make it less empty. It would also have been good too if the curtains could cover the window a little better (in the summer the room was bright from early morning). But at the same time I respect if the curtains were selected to fit better with the historic character.
- Vitalijus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ravi (10/5): Excellent property, highly recommend! - Exceptional service. We arrived very late due to being stuck in traffic. They were accommodating for late check-in and restaurant was closed by the time we arrived. However, they were kind enough to prepare a meal for our family so we can eat something. We really appreciated their kind gesture.
Property was great, we walked around the castle and its hidden gem with history and cool things to see on the property.
- Laurie (10/5): I would recomend this castle for an overnight stay. It was fun! - The owners were so friendly and accommodating! We felt like family. The bed was comfy. We were able to see the whole castle after eating breakfast. It was a really great stay!
- Valentín (9/5): Unique experience at a historical place - Excellent once-in-a-lifetime location, traditional restaurant, nice staff/owners, castle excursion available with no other tourists around After a storm a cat (or a castle ghost) walked over several parked cars marking them
- Irina (8/5): Very good -
- William (10/5): was really enjoyable - liked the castle idea nothing really, parking was a little concern but wouldn’t deter from doing again
- Narong (10/5): Exceptional - We have a good time spent a night in the Burg Katzenstein. The room was clean and spacious. The owner is kind and her homemade food is delicious.
- Christopher (8/5): Loved the castle experience! - Long way to carry suitcase from car.
- Sundberg (10/5): Excellent service, the hostess even packed me a lunch for the day! - calm and quiet atmosphere proximity to large town
- Shaun (10/5): Upon arrival Mrs Walter happily greeted us and showed us to our sleeping chambers. The entire Walter Family was very kin - The castle was super cute, comfortable, and gave us that medieval castle feeling we were looking for! My partner and I enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful and quiet courtyard with a beer, before going to bed. The property and experience was exactly what we wanted! Nothing to dislike about this place.
- Orsolya (10/5): If you ever dreamed about sleeping in a 12century old castle with buffet breakfast for the price of a B&B this is yo - If you want to feel at home in a real castle this is your place! we arrived outside reception opening time but it was no problem for this lovely family who runs the place. We even received dinner although kitchen was closed too. The room was as spacious as a two bedroom flat. The castle dates back to the year 777! and only we could discover it after and before opening time as a stay overnight guests…Very special place, a real treasure hunt with all the cats for older kids (toddlers only by holding hands). Breakfast is a treat. An overall excellent stay for us. Thank you! -
