Guest Reviews
- Natalie (10/5): Peaceful cottage a stones throw from tourist area. - Ideal location but was incredibly peaceful despite being so close to the hustle and bustle. The courtyard garden was a lovely sun trap, cosy, clean comfortable cottage very well equipped. Nothing.
- Peter (9/5): Delightful in every way. A very high standard and very welcoming. Will highly recommend. - We were self catering so we made our own arrangements Overall we were highly satisfied. We did miss our footing on the little step up in the living area till we got used to it and feel a coloured strip to highlight it would have been useful. Other than that we couldn’t fault anything.
- Bonnie (7/5): Nice little break away - They layout and decor The place wasnt fully clean. Nothing major just some cobwebs in the kitchen area
Also it took nearly the whole holiday for one bedroom to finally have heating unlike the rest of the rooms
- Susan (9/5): Nice Break Away - Nice and quiet and central to Church Street which was great. The beds were comfortable The downstairs radiators need bleeding especially the little one under the stairs.
- Agnes (8/5): - Problem parking when we cane Nice place
- louise (10/5): -
- Kim Bolton (10/5): - This accommodation is perfect my daughter and I love it here it is now our annually year go to . There was nothing we didnt like .

- Gemma (9/5): Terrific location - Beautiful home. Very cosy and tastefully decorated. A terrific location, just 2 minutes from the main part of town. There's a few stairs but really manageable. It's so close to the abbey. The outside court area was a real bonus. The hosts were excellent - answered any questions promptly. In terms of amenities, there was tea, coffee and a pint of milk for us. There was plenty of cleaning materials and kitchen roll etc. We had a wonderful time in Whitby, with this home making it even better. It was really cosy returning from a full day of exploring. These comments do not detract from the property - really it's my fault for not checking. We didn't realise there was not a starter kit for the stove so that led to disappointment (just a tiny bit!) on the first night. We also forgot shower gel and I was complacent as anywhere else I stay tends to have some. Really I raise these things to say to others not to be forgetful and complacent like I was.

- Linda (9/5): Whitby is a wonderful place with this accommodation being well appointed and comfortable - It was right in the town. It was very clean and comfortable with lovely large towels and everything you could want for a relaxing stay. My husband struggled with the steps to the property but it was a lovely cottage.
- Karen (9/5): Perfect for a short stay in Whitby. Would recommend and stay again - Location was perfect Nothing
- Thoree (9/5): - The accommodation is perfectly located.
The accommodation is clean and well equipped. The lack of parking meant we had to find parking across the town
- Nicola (10/5): Excellent facilities in a fabulous location. - We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful cottage. The location is excellent, just a short stroll to the centre of Whitby, with stunning views to enjoy along the way. The cottage itself is full of character, very well equipped, and the beds are wonderfully comfortable – we slept so well.
We loved the outdoor seating area, which was perfect for relaxing in the sunshine. The owners were brilliant too, always quick to respond to any questions and really helpful.
It was the perfect base for our trip, and we’ll definitely be booking again.
- emily (10/5): Great location and very cute hideaway! - Great little ‘hideaway’ for the week in a great location.
Lovely lounge and the little outside space was a real bonus.
Very good communication from the owners. There are signs of damp but equally, it is a very old property so understand it’s hard to control this.
- Emma (9/5): - Property was full of character and excellently located within easily walkable distance to all the main sights in Whitby.
- Spencer (10/5): -
- Jackie (6/5): Would have been a disaster if my limited mobility sister had been with us - The windy staircase no hand rails to speak of
- Andrew (10/5): Fantastic again - The location is fantastic, right in the heart of Whitby.
The second time I stayed here, the house was well equipped and spotlessly clean.
Communication from the owners is always brilliant and check in and out so easy.
- Christinea (10/5): We had a lovely relaxing & comfortable stay, this was our second stay at this lovely cottage, and hope not our last, - We loved everything about this property, it is close to the centre of Whitby, very quiet, private, really lovely stay!! I do feel the need to raise a slight worry regarding the entrance into & out of the property:
The two steps on entrance.:
We all found that the step at the kitchen level, was a bit of a worry, after tripping going “out” of the property a few times, we “mentally hi-lighted” that we had to take care going “out” of the property. Perhaps putting some sort of safety tape along the edge of the step would really draw attention for the need to take care as you step out of the kitchen to leave the property.
I would add that this was the only thing about the property we felt we needed to raise and not a criticism overall of the cottage, we were totally happy with our stay.
- Joanne (10/5): Wonderful - Lovely cottage with all mod cons.
Very clean.
Lovely outside space to sit.
Excellent location Nothing really
The stairs are quite steep but it's a cottage afterall
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Mary (8/5): Attentive hosts, central location, some maintenance needed - Hosts sent over detailed check-in instructions promptly and even let us check in a few hours early which was a bonus. Central but peaceful location off church street with a decent-sized yard. Lovely views over Whitby rooftops. Well-equipped kitchen and the hosts left us milk and biscuits which was a nice touch. Netflix and smart speaker in the living room. Obvious damp issue with paint peeling off ceiling on the top floor and bare plaster around living room radiator that needs redecorating
Double bed mattress not very comfy
Outside furniture could do with cushions
Decor felt a bit tired with the exception of the kitchen and lounge. Bathroom in particular in need of modernisation
- Christopher (5/5): Had a great couple of days - Location was good Beds very uncomfortable
- Joe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (9/5): Superb - Was clean. Comfy and I loved the burner
- Wayne (8/5): Very good -
- Linda (10/5): Excellent stay lovely cottage will definitely book again 😁 - Excellent and helpful owners, fantastic communication.
Property facilities excellent, very clean and well stocked. Great location. Quaint cottage feel with all modern facilities you would need.

Great location NA
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christinea (10/5): Very relaxing, memorable experience. Looking forward to returning in the near future. - The location was a priority for us, very central giving us ease of walking around whitby.
The cottage is accessible through a small court yard, very private and quiet, we loved the small outside yard facility, this enabling a relaxing start to our day in beautiful Whitby, drinking a tea or coffee sat outside each morning. The stairs to our bedrooms in the cottage could be a slight challenge, but no one in our party had walking difficulties, so this was not a worry or problem. The cottage was extremely clean and very comfortable, every necessary amenity available to us. Haidee & Steve had kindly left milk in the fridge, tea & coffee was available for us to enjoy a long needed hot drink on our arrival. Our hosts had sent very detailed information well in advance of our stay regarding access and directions to finding the Cottage, also advice on parking availability both in & around Whitby. So all in all, we had a lovely relaxing stay in the Hideaway retreat, one to remember with a smile and hopefully be returning in the near future. NOTHING to not like.
- Kyle (10/5): Peaceful and relaxing - The location was great Nothing
- Pauline (9/5): We enjoyed our stay here and would love to return. - The view from the 2 front bedrooms.
The outdoor seating area.
The rustic decor. Maybe information about how steep the staircases are would be helpful.
- Shelley (10/5): Great little place in the heart of Whitby close to everything ! - Lovely little property nestled in the heart of Whitby
2 doubles and small single room
Everything you need was there
Very clean and tidy
The hosts were great too !
- Tamsin (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the character of the house and the location. Really well equipped. We loved our time there, and talked all the way home about coming back some time. Loved it but beware if you are tall and prone to hitting your head on beams! There is no private parking due to the location but it's so worth it and you can pay or find street parking if you are happy to walk a bit
- Mic (9/5): Quaint cottage hidenaway. - The location quaintness of the cottage. The cottage had everything and was clean.
- Naomi (10/5): Perfect location with private outside terrace, beautiful comfy house. - Perfect location and loved the little outside terrace - what a sun trap! Wouldn’t suit people who find small windy stairs difficult.
- Amanda (9/5): Cute cottage, Fabulous location! - Fabulous location and love the cottage it was so quaint, superb communication and directions.
- Jackie (10/5): A hidden gem - What a find, excellent location just off Church Street, it's certainly a Hideaway! Charming cottage, very well appointed and bonus courtyard garden area. We will definitely return There was nothing we didn't like. The approach is up a few flights of steps with no handrails so may be an issue for less able. It was fine for us.
- Carole (9/5): Lovely - Location was perfect.
- Angela (7/5): Grandkids loved it and location excellent. A couple of small tweaks and vfm would be nice xcellent - Location excellent. Very helpful and flexible owner easy to contact and communicated well to advise on arrival etc Small amount of maintainance needed dripping boiler - leak through ceiling and plaster under front window sill
- Carol (10/5): Could live there ,was so easy to have all things we have at home so comfortable - Everything was excellent clean, everything was provided for
- Georgina (10/5): - It was a lovely little cottage, had everything we could need. Staff were also very helpful. very comfortable place. We enjoyed our stay very much. However the mattresses were a bit hard but that made little difference. We still slept well 😊 would recommend!
- Lucy (10/5): Wish we were there longer! - Location
Quaintness
Views
Facilities
Decor Nothing
- Jennifer (10/5): Highly recommend - Very central, heating on when arrived which was lovely as it was bitter outside.
Lovely quirky property. Ticking clock on boiler in bedroom
- Michael (6/5): Could be a decent property but needs to resolve some fundamental issues and price is on the high side. - Location was good, communication from owners was very good. Quite basic inside but all the fundamentals. Word of caution to less mobile folks. The stone steps in the passageway to the property are steep, not lit with no handrails. Bring a torch (be worth the owners providing a small communal one). The 2 staircases inside the property are not for persons with access difficulties. The middle bedroom with single beds has the boiler in the room. It has a mechanical time clock (should be digital) that gives a loud TICK TOK all night, along with a very noisy boiler right next to your head. Beds are extremely uncomfortable, so all in all not a great sleeping place. There is an obvious ongoing damp issue on the ground floor, very musty smell unless you keep the windows open full time.
- Raymond (8/5): Lovely cottage in quiet location in the old part of Whitby - Location was fantastic in the old town. Property was quiet and quirky with great views. It was well kitted out, comfortable and warm. Was an easy and pleasant stay. The rug and sofa could do with a steam clean, not a big deal. The mattress was cheap and thin, and there is some damp in the upstairs bedroom.
- Cherokee_moonbeam (10/5): Lovely cottage in the centre of Whitby - Lovely cottage in a very good location. The cottage was presented very well on our arrival. We very much enjoyed our stay here. Nothing
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Glenn (9/5): Superb -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- William (10/5): Loved it - Hidden away in a very quiet location with a nice view over the town Nothing to do with the property but lack of parking on that side of town
- Karl (10/5): Amazing - We loved staying here close to everything it was clean and had everything we needed we would definitely stay here again.
- Janet (10/5): Perfect from start to finish with glorious weather - Location, the outside seating area, the cleanliness, ample pots pans plates mugs etc. A very cosy cottage Nothing to comment on
- Clare (10/5): Lovely property, great location. - Very clean and comfortable. Fantastic location No parking but we parked up by the Abbey. Bit of a walk but worth it for such a great location.
- Linda (10/5): Lovely location with everything you need. Proper home from home - The location, cleanliness, facilities Everything was great
- Andrew (10/5): Whitby - Location is fantastic, house is stunning, comfortable and immaculately clean
- Lynne (10/5): Relaxing retreat in Hideaway cottage - This was a wonderful cottage in the old part of Whitby, accessed through a yard beside the White Horse and Griffin pub.
It was very easy to find. It's up a few steepish steps to the property. The cottage has been kept to a really high standard of cleanliness which we appreciated. We have stayed all over Whitby for many years, and have stayed in good and bad accomodation so I think I know what I'm talking about when I say this one is lovely and clean, well equipped and nice and quiet. It has a sitting out area too which is quite rare. The rooms are a nice size and the cottage has been kept in it's olde worlde style which has a charm and yet is up to date with it's furnishings and appliances so all in all it's a happy mix. Getting the key from the box was easy and we were messaged by the owners as soon as the property was ready for us which was very helpful. That the owners won't let us keep it !! Very mean of them !!!
- Sara (10/5): we went away for a couple of days with friends. the property was in an ideal location and very comfortable. - the location was excellent and the cottage was lovely
- Rebecca (6/5): Pleasant - Location good , beds comfy, tea n coffee n biscuits with milk left for us , very nice to arrive to Stairs , shower , cleanliness wax OK... duvets thin ... water pressure poor
- Patricia (8/5): would stay there again. - nice little cottage. comfortable and clean. well situated with a nice little seating area outside.
- Robert (8/5): lovely property ideal location very clean and a bonus for the log burner - the location was great and the log burner was just what you needed after a day exploring all the facilities in the kitchen were very luxurious and the outside space was a bonus to be able to sit out in the sun the steps on approach to the property are not ideal or people with mobility limitations also there is no lighting on the approach to the property
it would be ideal for a grab rail in the bath when useing the shower
we ended up useing the middle twin room as it was on the same level as the bathroom as navigating the narrow stairs during the night wouldn’t have been ideal
- Rachel (10/5): Family weekend break - location was fantastic
- Sarah (10/5): highly recommend, great holiday perfect for couples and families - great location and well equipped cottage
- Wendy (9/5): Superb - Cosy and comfortable The shower didn't work well and kept going from freezing cold to scalding hot.
- Ms (9/5): Superb - Had a fabulous stay at the Hideaway..a home away from home..warm cosy and clean..Hailee was brilliant in communicating on all we needed know..The log burner was a beautiful bonus ⭐
Thankyou Hailee 😊 The stairs were tricky but fun
