Guest Reviews
- Mohsen (9/5): Superb - Everything was perfect. Very large room with comfortable bed. Room was very clean. Polite and responsible staff. Super nice view to island. The location is good but 10 minutes walk uphill to get there. Other than that everything was perfect.
- Andreas (9/5): Superb -
- Jiske (1/5): Scam Listing – Hotel was closed and abandoned upon arrival - We were a bit worried beforehand since we saw the previous reviews some days upon our arrival. Therefore we communicated with the property and Booking multiple times before arrival to confirm everything was in order. We were repeatedly told there was "no problem." We had little faith, but unfortunately we booked a non refundable room, so we went anyway.
We booked Zannos Melathron expecting a boutique stay in Santorini. What we got instead was a completely closed, deserted hotel with not a single staff member or guest in sight. The building was locked, dark, and clearly not in operation.
Upon arrival, after finding the hotel abandoned, we were redirected to a completely different, dusty apartment elsewhere – without reception, no real amenities, and definitely not equivalent to what we paid for. It was passed off as an “upgrade.” Let me be clear: it was not. The apartment had no breakfast buffet (despite being included), just some home delivered soggy toast, some egg and some yoghurt (all delayed by 75 minutes, so we just waited in our room for nothing), no services, and a visible lack of hygiene.
We spent hours on the phone with Booking, trying to get reallocated or refunded, and eventually had to abandon the property ourselves and book a proper hotel out of our own pocket to salvage what was left of our trip.
This listing should not be active. It is deceptive, and guests are being misled and left stranded. Avoid at all costs.
- Christopher (2/5): Not as advertised. - If you are looking for a spacious room with a hot tub and beautiful sunset views, this place delivers it. Pyrgos is beautiful, and there are some lovely restaurants. We would especially recommend Rita Bar for excellent food, wine and ambience. This property is not as advertised. It is not a characterful hotel, but a modern development of individual suites. The historic hotel shown in the photos was not open, and there was no bar or restaurant. Reception was unstaffed most of the time and there was only one attendant who, although polite, was rarely on site. The room was clean and spacious but was lacking in provisions. Breakfast was brought to the room but it was very poor quality (supermarket bread, instant coffee, eggs that had gone cold, nothing fresh). One day breakfast didn’t arrive at all.
None of this was explained in advance. When we queried why the accommodation was not as described we were taken up to the historic hotel (about 10 minutes walk away) and shown a room which was in the process of renovation, with dust and empty paint pots lying around.
We felt that the property owners were dishonest with us, and we will not be staying here again.
- Pernille (6/5): Fantastic location, but the service was a joke - The village and the location is amazing with the most stunning view The service was almost non existing and the cleaning pretty random and for a hotel this expensive that is unacceptable. It was more like renting an appartment than living in a hotel. We booked a transfer from the airport throught the hotel, which did not come, and when we arrived the room was not cleaned properly and the pool really dirty aswell (they partly took care of this the next morning) There was no one in the "reception" and only one man (friendly but apparantly too busy) who took care of the guests. On several occasions we wrote him on whatsapp (which he asked for) and got no reply. When we booked the place there was several photos of the original Zannos Melathron on Booking.com but this part is closed at the moment because it is too unsafe because of the risk of earthquakes. In other words we did not get what we bought. Still, we had a good stay because it is a unique place, but it is really a shame that the hotel does not offer better service.
- Anonymous (10/5): Left our hearts at Zannos ❣️ -
- Marina (1/5): False advertising don’t stay here - We booked the hotel which was advertised adjacent a church, but when we arrived they walked us over in a different direction to the suites leading us away from the advertised location, I even pointed to the sign that said hotel but the owner brushed me off and insisted I was going the wrong way, this was the first sign something was not right. They didn’t inform us that the actual hotel we booked was closed, until I later discovered this when reading some reviews on the property.
Upon arrival we immediately felt unsafe as there was no receptionist and despite our many efforts we could not get in contact with reception. The elevator was broken, the property seemed abandoned and the included breakfast was a select few items we needed to tick off on a paper and hand it in to the nonexistent reception every evening before midnight.
We ended up leaving and booking another hotel which was fantastic and I highly recommend (Raddison blu resort and spa) which is only a 10 minute drive away, where our fear of being in a foreign place for the first time finally turned into a relaxing and welcoming stay. This led me to ask the owner of Zannos many times for a refund and he completely dismissed me. Saying we should be happy with the suites and completely turned blame on us for not staying….
We are two girls traveling alone and just wanted some safety and security as anyone traveling would want. This was a horrible and terrifying experience and I highly recommend you do NOT stay here. My bag is damaged from lugging it up and down the mountain and I am still trying to retrieve the money spent on a luxury hotel that is so far from “luxury”
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous views. Great staff & excellent breakfast.
- Anonymous (10/5): Beautiful and service was excellent! - The breakfast was good! Great view from atop Pyrgos!
- Mark (4/5): Disappointing, no communication of changes. - Great view from the hotel overlooking the island. Comfy bed. Room was not in the hotel we booked. We were put in a room at the "Zannos Luxury Suites" - a different property close to the hotel, which was closed. There was no communication about this beforehand and it was presented as an 'upgrade' on arrival. The floor of the room was dirty, and it had ants and other insects in it. Once we complained, it was better for the second night. Hot tub was filthy and freezing so not usable. Shower was not hot. Staff are not on site in the evening. Overall, very disappointing.
- Carlotta (9/5): Superb -
- Deepak (10/5): Exceptional - Magnificent view, fabulous, large rooms. The staff were very helpful, in particular I would like to mention Attich, who is perhaps the most helpful and wonderful person... The approach and access to the hotel is very difficult especially for senior citizens. Absence of a buffet breakfast was not very enjoyable...
- Bogdan (7/5): Good - We booked Zannos Melathron based on strong recommendations and the impressive online presentation. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing.
The original Zannos Melathron mansion, as featured in the photos, is closed. Instead, we were accommodated at a nearby location called Zannos Suites by Zannos Collection, about 150 meters away. This major change was not communicated at any point during the booking process or before arrival, and we felt misled. The alternative property lacks the historic charm and atmosphere we specifically sought when choosing Zannos Melathron.
On a positive note, the room was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was good, though not exceptional.
Accurate and transparent information is essential, especially for international travelers. We would have appreciated an honest description to make an informed choice.
- Vividha (9/5): Will defo come back again - Amazing property and location
The staff was amazing and very helpful
There are 2 parts of the property- new (luxury villas) and old hotel building
We stayed at the new building however the old building has a lot of history attached to it.
The location is fab, right in middle of the domes and the view is great
It’s a bit of hike though the staff was kind enough to help with luggage Nothin- everything was great
- Syed (10/5): Very enjoyable with great views - The hotel was fantastic 20 minutes from the Airport the rooms were brilliant with a great view the staff were very helpful and accommodating to all our needs. Specially thanks to Zoltan and Eddie
- Kayla (10/5): Exceptional -
- E (10/5): Great place -
- Oleksii (3/5): Poor - Personnel is very nice, lady on reception was super kind and was doing her best to make it good spa isn't working (I understand low season but why should I learn it after my arrival?)
jacuzzi isn't working (no hot water there so you freeze in it)
no room service (only breakfast)
no breakfast with sea view (as on the pictures)
- Sona (8/5): Very good - To be honest, the room was a bit weird. It needed some new fresh lighting and a new bed. There are some organizational questions that can be done in a better way, but in general staff is very helpful (including help with the luggage). Breakfast was charming and pool area is great to relax. This hotel has all the chances to become one of the greatest places to visit and I wish owners all the best in their adventure to make the hotel one of the greatest one)
- Mohit (10/5): the view from the top evening was excellent - rooms were excellent good view from the hotel to city loved the place with family good restaurants nearby on the top of the city view excellent the view from the top
evening was excellent
- Carmen (10/5): Wonderful place - Very comfortable, staff is very helpful
- Anesh (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional - We liked everything. The staff was polite, the rooms were clean, the location was great.
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was wonderful
- Yaniv (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed for several days here as a group of four and booked a large room – it was perfect! Plenty of space for all of us, super comfy beds. The resort has a chill atmosphere, and the staff was always friendly and helpful.
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional - Staying at Zannos Melathron felt like stepping back in time, but with all the modern comforts. The historic vibe of the hotel is amazing, and the views are unbeatable. Rly loved every moment here...
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional - Zannos Melathron is so charming! The location, the views, the service—everything was just perfect. We loved the relaxing atmosphere and can’t wait to return. Truly a special place to stay.
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional - "The staff at the hotel made our stay unforgettable. They were always helpful, and the service was top-notch. The hotel area was a favorite spot to relax, and the whole place just felt magical
- Laxmi (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views of blue domes and wonderful hotel location on the highest peak of Santorini The swimming pool needs a shade due to sun, they need to provide a snack bar at least which is great if u have kids who constantly are hungry. Especially the walk up and down the hill can be a killer if extremely hot.
- Jonathan (7/5): Good -
- Malek (8/5): Very good -
- Ishan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simona (5/5): Nice views but low standards for cleanliness and room maintenance - The location is lovely offering beautiful views and next to lovely churches and nearby coffee shops. Breakfast was good. Nice pool. However...the property doesn't seem to do a good job of maintaining the rooms on good condition. The AC and heating did not work, the water temperature in our room was messed up (too hot or too cold), and the cleanliness level was subpar. Wifi was very weak too. We told the staff about these issues and they didn't get fixed.
- Ben (10/5): Peaceful and beautiful stay - Everything was perfect. Thanks for everything. Staff were amazing. Views were wonderful. Please get a breakfast menu organised :-)
- Nicholas (9/5): Superb -
- Shorfie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angelo (5/5): The property was not prepared for guests yet. The staff was accommodating and did what they food to - Great breakfast
Water heater was not working in bathrooms! No water heater, no fridge
- Malek (9/5): Superb - The staff were very pleasant and friendly.
The place is very clean. And the breakfast is very good If they have cups in the room for the coffee/hot water pot. Extra rolls of toilet paper. Fresh clean towels everyday. Perform house keeping to the room daily
- Jennifer (7/5): With better management it could be perfect - OK, here goes, I was hoping to stay here and be a person who could really elevate the rating and report back that new management made at a fantastic place to stay… I will say that the rooms are beautiful, and linens very comfortable, and personally, I love the location perched at the top of Pyrgos. The breakfast served to your room was a nice touch, and they let us have a group breakfast at their (oddly abandoned) main house area. We had two rooms and both were gorgeous with private hot tubs. The property is undergoing a large renovation, with many of the rooms in progress. The main issue here is the complete lack of staff on the property. We arrived to a locked door and honestly never even officially checked in - there are technically two areas of the property (the more modern rooms are in a separate section with their own reception) but neither area ever had staff around to talk to. It was a very odd experience and made me realize how much having great service adds to your perception of a place. Another thing to note, though it’s been noted - there are SO MANY STAIRS. I had my parents with us and often regretted putting them through the stairs.
- Christine (1/5): Disaster as hotel had already closed for the winter. No vehicle access and difficult walk to it - Nothing as hotel was closed for the winter when I arrived I arrived at 22:00 to find the hotel was closed for the Winter, even though I had paid Booking.com. Had to find other accommodation. Travelling on my own it was a very frightening experience. Even though the hotel was closed I am being told I cannot get a refund - how can that be. Unable to contact anybody at the Zannos and VERY difficult to contact Booking.com. Also in the description of the hotel it says not suitable for people with mobility problems (which I don't have) it does not say there is no vehicle access to the hotel and the walk up is 10mins of steep hills and steps, difficult with luggage
- Danielle (8/5): Very good - Great breakfast food, beautiful views from the swimming pool, very spacious room and lovely location. Accomodated us for a later checkout with no fuss. Breakfast ordering was chaotic and sometimes did not arrive and had to be chased up. Plumbing issue in one of our rooms meant my friend had water come down through the ceiling! We tried to order drinks to the pool but they never arrived. The pool was not the cleanest and had a hose going into it the first day we were there. I think the part we stayed in was quite new so possibly these were some teething issues. Overall I'd still recommend.
- Eve (6/5): Disappointing - Location Breakfast was v poor for the price of hotel stay. I’m vegetarian and they housed the sausages next to the omelette in the same tray.
- Karolina (10/5): Exceptional - Staff, view, room. Above our expectations.
- Ian (8/5): We enjoyed our stay after our initial arrival experience - The room itself did not have a view but we had an area outside which allowed you to view the whole of Santorini. Breakfast is pre-ordered using an app on your phone, which is ok if you have a smart phone, we did. Lots of choice for breakfast but service is slow so need to order an early time. We arrived late in the evening. We had arranged for a taxi with car hire the following day from the same company. We were actually given the car hire at the airport and followed the rep to Pyrgos. He told us to park up and ring the hotel. It was after 10.00pm and the hotel was closed. The hotel was difficult to find. It is at the top of the hill in the village and there is no access by car. We asked various people where the hotel was and no-one had heard of it. Eventually we asked at a restaurant and they sent us up a cobbled passageway. It took about 10-15 mins to reach the hotel with our bags. When we found it it was closed, but a couple of the staff were waiting outside and were able to get the keys to our room and show us there. They didn't explain about the app for breakfast.
- Shenali (10/5): Perfect! - Beautiful place! It’s super clean and really friendly staff that was so helpful. The views were amazing.
- Paul (5/5): It was great location with pleasant staff but could be much better if managed properly. - The location was excellent and the vies stunning The breakfast was very slow although good. Our hot tub was very dirty with green moss stains around the edge and despite many requests it was not cleaned. The room had a lack of hanging space, there was an open wardrobe with a rail but no hangers for clothes.
- Laura (7/5): Good stay - The room was new and silent and the staff was nice with us. The service and the organization is not in line with a four star hotel.
- Calvin (1/5): This hotel will give you whatever room they feel like. Horrendous organisation. AVOID AT ALL COST - Nothing. Horrendous organisation and absolute disgrace of an hotel. Shocking customer service filled with confusion and empty goodwill promises.
We NEVER got the room we had paid for! Was promised an one night refund but staff REFUSED to provide formal communication confirming the refund. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!
We had booked ourselves a room with hot tub for two nights but we were never ever given that room. We were shown to a standard room upon our arrival and we raised this to reception staff immediately. A staff member named Aid who appears to be a temp came to apologise and offered a one night refund - claiming that the room we had booked was not ready because of a humidity issue. He claimed that they were caught by surprise because the rooms with shared hot tub were meant to be sold (why was it advertised?). We decided against staying in that room on day 1 because of the potential of mould. We came to an agreement with Aid on a refund to be arranged when check out, and to move to the room with hot tub on day 2 when the humid smell gets better.
Day 2, we were away for the day to return to the hotel in the evening roughly 930pm. Aid had texted us during the day asking when we would return and would show us to the room. He never turned up and the receptionist instead took us to a different room, with a shared swimming pool. It was not what we had paid for - we raised this in person with Aid at check out on day 3 and asked about the refund process. We were given with vague answers and Aid refused to provide any written communication to confirm a refund. There was no manager on site ever. Aid claimed that the manager would handle the refund and also hinted that it was our issue to be returning so late on the previous night.
As of the time of writing (1 week later), no communication from the hotel depsite several emails from us. Absoutely unacceptable and disrespectful. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!
- Rosemary (8/5): Very good -
- Angelito (5/5): It would have been a better experience if the service and communication were better. This was the most stressful leg of - Beautiful property but needs some refurbishing. Very unique. We were not informed that the hotel is located on the highest part of the hill and can only be accessed by foot. No one from the reception answered our call to ask assistance for directions and luggage. We had to make our way up only to find out that no one was there to check us in, show our room etc. we we stranded outside the hotel for almost an hour. We had to ask a bystander’s help, who is apparently a staff, to assist with luggage. He carried over 20 kgs of luggage up the hill 3 times. I accidentally just found a door with a key outside and figured that was our room. Management should have communicated instructions by email if they didn’t reach us by phone. We also requested for assistance for check out but it was 30 mins late. We thought assistance would never arrive and we would miss our flight.
- Pramod (9/5): Good value for money - Very good breakfast, Spacious rooms etc. Difficulty in carrying baggage and locating the hotel, finding a parking location so that you do not get the ticket
- Skye (6/5): Huge potential, left wanting by chronic understaffing and rooms still under construction - We had high hopes for this hotel, the location looked fab and its historic building was one of the things that drew us to it. The view out from the first room we were assigned was fantastic, infinity pool, high up on the hill with view out over both east and west coasts all the way up to Fira and Oia. The infinity pool was cold but clean and lovely and the breakfast, when it arrived, was good. The setting of Pyrgos is very pretty and it was lovely to have a real sense of being in a more traditional area of the island with little streets and LOTS of steps! Hatty was a very helpful member of staff, completely overrun poor chap, but did his very best to accommodate us.
This hotel has HUGE potential and they're clearly spending a lot of money on new rooms and facilities which are all good things, but if you haven't got the staff to service the guests or the rooms aren't yet serviceable as appeared to be the case for both our rooms, then you will lose significant business. We were grateful we were only stopping there 2 nights as we started our holiday. We would have been incredibly disappointed to spend our whole time there or indeed to end our holiday there. We arrived to find the hotel locked, with no staff visible or indeed locatable. We never met the manager despite the 'hiccoughs' we experienced. When we did gain access to the hotel and subsequently our room, our initial amazement at the lovely, apparently brand newly created/refurbished space was replaced with dismay as less than 10 minutes after being left to unwind from the journey, the people in the room above had a shower which poured through the vent in our bathroom ceiling, soaking the toilet and bathroom and tripping the electrics, leaving us in darkness (especially as the sun had set). We contacted Hatty to inform of the issue and he swiftly appeared to help us with an alternative room. There appeared to only be one, which was still under construction (private hot tub on the balcony not yet completed). The room was made up and absolutely massive (being fun set in a cave in the hillside) with an intriguing spherical bed. We were sad to have lost our direct pool access and our room whilst made up, was not clean, with the floor feeling dusty and gritty with building dust. We also then found that the impressively large shower did not have adequate drainage or depth of tray/lip, so if running the shower on full strength, the water soon escaped to the floor outside the shower (significantly).
One is asked to order breakfast in advance of the morning and select a timeslot, which we duly did. Upon arrival at breakfast (still no manager) Hatty was there, run off his feet and we were waiting over half an hour for our breakfast which was sitting on the bar when we arrived, and we never actually received the omelettes we'd ordered. The following morning it was slightly better, but it still took 20 minutes for our rolls, cereal and yogurt to arrive (and we'd made it clear we were time pressured to get down to the ferry).
- Iulia (1/5): Weird place - The location of this village is excelent, but this hotel need a big refresh.
If you book here ask first for pictures of the room that you choose,in full periods i think a bad room can ruin your holliday and also you pay money for nothing... Unfortunatley pictures on the site and the reality is very different. The main hotel is an old place with small and dusty rooms at the basement with little natural light, without Ac and some small yards ,no view because in front of the room are very tall walls.
I was super upset when i saw what room they want to give me and after that they mouved us in some new building very modern super different and luxury, great view ,infinty pool. That place doesn't have photos on the internet or booking and i think this is weired.
The breakfast is not quality ,the omlette is so oily, the coffee or cappuccino are bad, and they give you the same things every day after long minutes of wait... we eat only once in all out trip.No fruits or vegetables in meniu.
The staff is ok but the management doesn't exist.

- John (8/5): Unforgettable stay in a great hotel - We enjoyed the querkyness of the hotel and our room (which was upgraded to the Honeymoon suite)
We enjoyed the breakfasts and the quietness of our personal areas.
The room was cleaned daily
Hatti and all the staff were great and were eager to please
The reception rooms are very grand and have painted and ornate ceilings.
From the location you can see Fira and Oia and we had some very nice sunsets.
It was lovely to wind down in the evening with a drink before evening meal and watch the sun go down from our terrace.
The swimming pool area is very nice but is more for a dip than a good swim. The towels were changed every day which we think is unnecessary (unless requested).
It's not a criticism but just saving a little by everyone could save a lot on the environment.
The toilet push button was broken and it meant the toilet was continuously trying to refill itself. It should have been reported by the cleaning staff and attended to.
There is no telephone in the room so contact with the staff can be a bit hit and miss. Reception is in the main building and is via quite a few steep steps which are located externally around the complex.
Again it isn't a criticism because the location on a hill all adds to the character of the hotel which we found most charming.
- Murat (8/5): Perfect location and nice facilities - Very nice staff. They were doing as much as they could do without any management. Management team doesnt exist. This property needs a manager.
- Hao (5/5): Passable - It is located at the commanding heights of the island, with a wide view, you can see the east and west coasts at the same time, and there is a place on the top of the mountain where you can see the sunrise and sunset.
The hotel rooms are semi-B&B, old-fashioned, and worth a try if you are tired of hotel service. There is a public swimming pool in the courtyard where our room is located, and the water is very fresh. The service here is like opening a blind box, you don't know what will appear next moment. Breakfast time can vary from half an hour to over an hour, depending entirely on how quickly they work.
The fourth guest who comes after a meal will be the first to get breakfast, and the three tables of guests who came before will get their food at their own pace.
For breakfast, you can scan the QR code to place an order on your phone, but some ideas are very strange. For example, when the quantities of cheese and salami are one each, you will indeed only get a slice of cheese and a thin slice of salami, which is indeed correct. But there's always something strange.
- Kiira (10/5): Amazing - the view from pool is really amazing! service really good
- Fernando (8/5): Recommended! - Very good room, huge and comfortable. The pool in the hotel is perfect. You have wonderful views of the whole Santorini. Despite the location is not the main area in Santorini, it is 10min from Fira only, Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast (despite the need to book in advance) Was not clear in advance that you can´t park around the place, we had to figure it out when arriving and handle all the luggage 200mts via stairs, under a 35C summer ;)
The breakfast is very good, but the system is not working: you need to book it in advance, in the day before and defining the time for the breakfast. Even doing this, not necessarily it will be ready at the time, there were delays of 20 to 40min, and this was the real frustration with the hotel: Please review your breakfast system.
- Aurelie (7/5): Good -
- Bianca (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay was very good. the staff is very kind and ready to help whenever needed. the view from breakfast is amazing and we had one of the most beautiful sunsets from the hotel terrace.
- Ninggi (7/5): Good - Pool, the style of the building, friendly staff Could be more responsive in terms of communication
- Connor (4/5): Pictures deceiving, recent reviews not. However nice part of town and friendly staff - The staff were friendly, they came to retrieve our bags when we arrived and answered all of our questions. The room was big, albeit not what we could see in the pictures. The wifi was fine and the pool was as expected. Not enough staff to manage the property. Had to request for the room to be cleaned, breakfast was 30-40 minutes after ordering. Could have set up a breakfast bar and made the hot food to order.
- Shona (9/5): Superb - Comfortable, private room with our own jacuzzi. Best sleep of 2023 was on our holiday here. Beautiful spot!
- Gmars (10/5): Exceptional - very nice pool, very nice rooms and staff is really gentle and attentive.
- Anonymous (1/5): The rooms were very dirty and aircondition was broken - Unfortunately the hotel room was very dirty and unclean. Stains everywhere on bed sheets and cushions, dust on the floor and mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. Me and my girlfriend were planning to stay for two nights, but because of the unclean room and aircondition stopped running at 3 am during the first night, we left the hotel in the morning.
I talked to the hotel manager christophoros, who was quite understanding and he agreed on a reimbursement via booking. So far we have not heard anything back although we tried to get in contact via email and phone.
I definitely do not recommend to stay at this hotel. The architecture of the building is nice, but inside it needs a lot of improvements.
- Charles (5/5): Not good, not bad. - Property is great and the rooms are nice The room is nice and the staff are friendly but this not a “luxury” place and it is poorly run.
- Rezia (6/5): Nice experience, but not a 5* hotel. - The location was incredible. Apart from the fact that you have to climb a lot of steps to get to and from the place. But I guess this is how traditional people live and it was a good experience. Defiantly do not come here if you don't have strong legs. This place is marked as a 5*. When I travel I always book 5*. The standard of this rating has been consistent wherever I have travelled. However, this place is certainly not a 5*. We pay a lot of money to receive a 5* service so a hotel should meet our expectation on this rating. This place felt short on a lot of standards. I would say this has 3.5*/4* services.
To name a few issues without being picky, the ac didn't work properly, we had no hot water for a day, no kettle and coffee in the room, no drinking water was given, our room wasn't cleaned every day, the breakfast was always late and cold. They always forgot our ordered items so we had to remind them. Breakfast was not nice and needs to be improved.
Thankfully, the staff were very friendly and helpful. However there were 3 very young lads running the whole place. Couldn't see any older adults.
- Hassan (7/5): Good - View from villa. Access to villa is tiring. Villa was new missing Tv and wifi connection.
- Teo (6/5): Pleasant -
- Annafila (10/5): Very good stay with stunning view - + Breakfast is being ordered for everyday via QR code - good for the food saving but you must remember to do this and must assess what you will eat. A little bit annoying but good option from the food saving perspective.
+ Incredible views to the whole island.
+ Interesting boutique hotel.
+ Nice but small pool with outsanding view.
+ Free water bottles supply. - Personnel was not always available, no phone numbers are available to reach out.
- Not sure if you can order lunch or dinner - be prepared that you have to go to restaurants outside.
- Kitchen in the room is available but no any cooking utensils (no glasses, spoons, plates etc.)
- Charbel (7/5): The hotel has its charm but as a 3 stars. - The location was great but for sure u need a car. There is a near bus station but u need to wait long time in the sun. The breakfast was just good This hotel is not for sure a 5 stars..maybe a 3 stars not more. There was no AC in the room. Does any 5 stars have air fan!! They cleaned the floor once in 5 days! We couldn't use the swimming pool coz always soo cold
- Julie (6/5): Friendly staff and stunning location . - Pool was lovely and rooms were spacious
Staff were lovely and extremely friendly The air conditioning did not work
There was no sofa bed for my daughter
The wifi was poor
- Peter (7/5): Overall it was a good stay. - Everything generally went well but we were checked initially into a substandard room. Eventually we were transferred into the room we actually booked. So in the end we were satisfied and happy with the atmosphere. The Wi-Fi for the first 3 days was no existent as well as the lack of any room facilities. There is a definite difficulty in getting to the property from the town square and I wouldn't suggest a late check in.
- Nana (9/5): A quiet and classy hotel with personality, close to delicious restaurants. - The people at Zannos Melanthron were friendly and very helpful. The place is very peaceful and quiet. Our suite was brand new and we also liked the pool areas. We appreciate that the hotel is committed to anti-racism work and has solved the breakfast service in a way that minimizes waste.
- Kenny (4/5): Disappointing - The hotel has beautiful facilities with great comfortable rooms and beds, the cave rooms are exceptional and with a lovely jacuzzi pool that was cleaned regularly along with our room. The big disappointment for me was this was meant to be a special occasion for us, proposing to my partner in a very romantic setting, I had discussed with the management of the hotel my intentions and they gave us a room upgrade which was greatly appreciated, the biggest dissapointed was the promises made that our room would be decorated for such a romantic occasion and a cake was purchased as a gift from the hotel staff going above and beyond expectations, only to book the table on the night and have no hotel management to organise or present our special night on such a special occasion, had these promises not been made I would give this place 5* as its the most romantic setting of a resort I have ever been, the views, the room and facilities were exceptional.
- Jeremy (5/5): Passable - Staff was very friendly and helpful The room we got was what we had booked, room was dirty and in need of refresh
- Mark (8/5): Pyrgos has the best views in Santorini. Some cracking places to sit, drink , eat and watch the sunset are just moments f - We were in the newly built suites which are very contemporary with private hot tubs and a shared infinity pool. It is separate from the hotel an a few minutes walk away from the main reception and breakfast areas Having to order breakfast on the app is a pain. There is a good variety but lacking a fresh fruit option. Some of the staff need training on basic service skills, but they were all very pleasant and good mannered.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional place with nice view - The Rita suite with the jacozzi was very nice o like how it’s was designed like a cave very clean property the break fast was very delicious and freshly made the owner of the hotel Christopher and lovely lady with him were very nice and lovely people the view was amazing and you can see the sunset from the jacozzi we hopefully back in the future to see these lovely people again -
- Bibi (5/5): Passable - Nice location Rude reception. No water tea or coffee in room
45 mins late breakfast and it was cold when it arrived
- Andreas (5/5): Passable - The staff was friendly but not enough staff for the size of the hotel . The two pools were good size. The new rooms are beautiful. No air conditioning in the first suite . Some sockets in the old room were not functioning. I expected a former luxurious with old and worn furniture. I didn't expect a very old not functioning air conditioning. I didn't expect a place with that pricing to have not enough staff on so one had to ask for toilet paper a couple of times. Breakfast : the idea of time slots and pre ordering online is great but works online if people are forced to stick to the system one morning it was simply a mess because people didn't pop order the night before but 30min before having breakfast. So the system fell apart. We decided to have breakfast lunch instead as there was no way to wait with three kids. The location is awesome in beautiful Pyrgos but it needs a different managerial structure. Christopher is doing his outmost to keep the place running but it needs more money to run it properly.
Again our booked suite didn't have running air conditioning so we were placed in two new suites which were really nice . Still, Would I go back ? NO
- Jeffrey (7/5): A good vintage classic stay in santorini. But we had a creepy experience at around 2:30 am- 3:30 am that windows and doo - View was wonderful. Food was great. Tedious going to top with a kid. Television not working. Staff were hard to find. If you need something mostly of the staff were not in the lobby. They have whatsapp but they dont answer.
- Bor (3/5): Disapoiting - Only thing i liked is friendly staff and nice view and good breakfast Low equiped rooms, very humid rooms, late breakfast, AC not working properly, bad wifi… i can go on and on
Definetly not a 5 star hotel, 3 at max
- Gurpadamjit (8/5): Very good -
- Adam (1/5): it was a great trip, but i wouldn't recommend that hotel - hotel is located in a great area with an amazing view of the island, sunset, the personnel is nice and incredibly helpful, especially Mariula :) we waited for about an hour for the breakfast, no matter if we ordered it through the app the day before or right after coming to the restaurant. breakfast was served in long intervals: bread, then 10 minutes later coffee etc. there were no soap, bathrobes or shampoo for the amount of guests in the room, which in a hotel like this it's highly demanded. the tv and ac weren't working. in the kitchen there were no kettle, plates, cups. there was no welcoming drink or bottle of wine, as said on the website. hotel deserves only 3 stars.
- Byron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Omar (10/5): Nice hotel - Cherstofer is supported and friendly host very nice person and helped us a lot
Location is perfect room is nice the view is a stunning best ever sun set I ever seen there is some good restaurants and small shops around
Breakfast not bad hotel is really nice and definitely I will come back again For old people it will be difficult to walk this distance to hotel as the taxi can’t go up to drop you off in the hotel you have to walk up around 8 min but
Most santorini hotels is like this
- Gwendoline (3/5): Lovely place but shame about the lack of details to have made it a luxury stay which was marketed. - The views were amazing and the breeze you get up in top of Pyrgos is what was such a bonus for us. Haddy the only staff who was around and who was really helpful (and if anyone wants to hire him, they should) because he saved the stay for us. The space was good and it is a shame they didn’t use it more as a bar or a restaurant. Located nearby is Rosemary restaurant which was good and that’s why we ate there twice. Franco’s Wine Bar was also lovely as it had stunning views of the sunset. Kallistos the souvlaki place is more than a hole in the wall as it also has a different menu on the terrace where the sunset was also spectacular. This is the first hotel we have ever been to where there is literally NO management. The young lady who greeted us and her young sidekick were hardly around and due to the non existent air conditioning, we had to request for fans. The hotel was advertised as having air conditioning. Fans were delivered but it took them 2 nights to realise that it was boiling in the rooms. Windows could be opened but they opened out into the public passage. Breakfast tended to be cold and we had to pre order what we wanted and poor Haddy was trying to serve as many guests as he could. Often the omelettes were served cold. There were oil towels in one room but not in the others. One room just didn’t have their shower gels replaced. The suites were comfortable but there were no cups nor were there glasses for us to drink even water. The hotel reception was generally unmanned and this is such a shame as it could be a wonderful place with some management. When we ordered a taxi from the young sidekick who happened to appear after many rings of the reception bel, to take us back to the airport, there was no confirmation and on the morning, poor Haddy had to scramble to get us one. We had to drag our luggage down the hill which was hitherto carried up by donkeys.
- Ana (9/5): Wonderful host, amazing location, overall great stay in Santorini - The staff really goes the extra mile to make sure you have a great experience. We arrived quite late at the first night (3am) and Christoph was there to receive us and to help us with your luggage.
Also, despite having booked only the Junior Suite we were offered from the first day the chance to use the jacuzzi.
Breakfast was great, and always served on time. The location was a great plus as well, Pyrgos is very well positioned to know the whole island without the messy crowds of Oia or Fira. Rooms could benefit from a small renovation. Being in an old building humidity can be a bit tricky.
- Spiros (8/5): Very good - The consept Breakfast, Reseption, No minibar
- Ruxandra (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ronnie (9/5): Beautiful Pyrgos - We were honestly concerned before we got to the hotel due to some bad reviews, but we should point out this place is definitely worth staying at, at the same time some problems are noticeable but can be improved by better communication/information from staff.
Tips!
Just follow the Z sign on the street to find the way to the hotel.
Be patient with the hot water(takes time).
Wifi- download works well but uploading is very slow.
Order breakfast with QR code one day before. Be patient when it comes to serving.
If theres problem call reception or ask staff for help.
Highlights
Beautiful Pyrgos, away from the crowds, peaceful and calm.
Kind staff. If theres problems they trying to solve it.
Pool, views, at the breakfast place u can see the blue dome right through the window.
Sunset from the pool area is unforgettable. Quite a few steps/paths to climb up.
Not recommend to the ones has mobility problems.
Room need a dehumidifier. Very humid in the room.
- James (8/5): Extremely happy, lovely friendly staff and the perfect relaxing environment. - The location was perfect for a quiet area compared to other local towns.
Breakfast was very nice and well organised. The pictures on booking.com didn't match our room, we had to request to see two other rooms however were very happy once organised.
Booking.com stated private pool. This is not the case. Only private jacuzzi.
The towels in the room & beach were not up to a good enough standard. Old & hard!
- Chonghyuk (3/5): Poor -
- András (3/5): Poor - - Air conditionkng not working
- Refrigerator out of order
- audio system out of order
- you order breakfast via QR code for 09:00 and then you wait for sn hour while you get it
- staff is kind but incompetent
- Alexandra (10/5): Exceptional - The view is amazing! Was to cold and the ac setting were locked in 18 degrees
- Yousef (9/5): Superb -
- Fédor (3/5): Poor - We booked the Honeymoon suite for 2 nights thinking this would be one of the better rooms but it was disappointing, as was the whole hotel. The staff consisted out of 2 young African boys with little or no hotel experience. We decided to leave immediately and rather loose our 400 $ payment than stay here 2 nights.
- Bianca (1/5): It was more than a joke, it was a shit show! From the very first moment until the last one, frustration on top of frustr - the view and the sunset It was more than a joke, it was a shit show! From the very first moment until the last one, frustration on top of frustration. And this was our honeymoon (probably will do another one to compensate!). Hereby the highlights:
- airport pick up arranged weeks in advance was very late;
- we were given the possibility to order room service for breakfast (as a “gift for honermooners”) but we gave up after the second day, as it was over 2 hours late! (Even Ordering one day in advance, as requested) - they were CLEARLY understaffed.
- from second day onwards we started going to the restaurant to have breakfast, as we noticed how understaffed they were, however it was still always at least over 1,5 HOURS late (every single day - and we also heard many other customers complaining - a lady and her senior mother had to wait for 4 hours for their breakfast!!!);
- we paid for the “honeymoon suite”, not the cheapest option right - no Wi-Fi available at our premises (inside the cave nor in the jacuzzi space) and the “private jacuzzi” was not so private. We got back from the beach and there were strangers using OUR jacuzzi (and even hotel staff taking pictures of it! Unbelievable and very very frustrating). Despite having a pool available for all customers… for which we would at least expect for the staff to provide some guidance to the random people invading our private room space.
- hotel manager is a ghost! We were greeted by him at the first night and then only saw him on the last day (we spent 6 nights at the hotel). He was supposed to arrange a boat trip for us (he offered to do so) but it never happened. We woke up early for the morning trip (as confirmed by him) and we were lied to that it was cancelled. The boat tour company said it was NOT the case (Pelicans agency).
- Cristiana (8/5): Very good - The best staff I've met so far. Congratulations! I would pay more attention to the cleanliness of the rooms.
