- Zoe (10/5): The best place to stay in Raja!! - The food served here is the best food I’ve eaten in a long time, home cooked curries are served everyday with greens, veggies, fresh fruit and you’ll get fresh fish that their sons have caught everyday. The family at Avinsea are so warm, welcoming and they make sure to take good care of their guests. We asked to see the birds of paradise and it was organised for us. The bed was the comfiest we’d slept on in Raja with a square mosquito net that fits comfortably around the bed. The house reef just outside the accomodation is incredible with many fish and colourful corals right at the doorstep. We could run and jump straight off our room and snorkel for hours with so much to see. There is also a kayak you can hire to find other spots to snorkel at and internet can be purchased for $5 extra for your whole stay. We absolutely loved it here and we will be recommending it to anybody visiting Raja. That we had to leave
- laulhe (9/5): - We had a very good time at Avinsea, just in front of the best snorkeling and diving we had during our stay : citrus ridge.
The personnel was really handsome especially hengky, with whom we had very nice moments, laughs and good discussions. Thank you Hengky!
The food was amazing as well!
Also note they have wifi with starlink.
Very pleasant stay !
- Stephen (10/5): Loved the visit, both felt very rested and calmed by the time we left, would love to return - I feel a Raja Ampat Homestay should not be compared to where you have stayed elsewhere, each visit should be defined by your stay.
Avinsea is a remoter Homestay situated on Gam in a channel with the most amazing fish and coral life. It is run by Janus and Carazon, a lot of hard work has gone to make it as comfortable as possible. Each hut is raised above the water, the drop off is at the edge of the balcony. The rooms are comfortable and large, shared toilets and showers are clean and tidy. Freshwater is collected kms away and brought by boat. A walkway winds along to all the huts. We thought there would be many mosquitos amongst the mangroves but surprisingly only saw a few during the 7 days.
The food was fantastic, lots of fresh fish and chicken, rice and steamed veg, standard Raja breakfast, some fruit most mornings, big cooked lunch and dinner. Never hungry.
Fans in the room which ran most of the night on the solar battery.
Ice Cold Bintang, thank you Edith, you champion!
Although there was no major lost in translation issue, Edith helped with language translation and it makes a huge difference when any difficult things need to be discussed.
The family has relatives across the water, and we regularly shouted out greetings during the day. We had the pleasure of meeting Alpha, who was visiting, his interactions with 18month old Aldo kept us all laughing, nothing was safe from Aldo if he could throw it in the water. Lovely family dynamics. You could not help but feel included in the longer stay with the family. Very memorable stay, thank you. Definitely want to come back.
Avinsea has the most amazing snorkelling, you can snorkel from the Homestay round the point and experience incredible varied coral life. Snorkel the other direction and you are into the mangroves, incredible diving. Saw a Dugong on one of my last snorkels. Cannot really say anything negative, we are visiting a family who work hard to make it work, we are mostly westerners in their environment.
- Adrenne (10/5): Best homestay in Raja Ampat - Welcoming, friendly and a kind family with a generosity of spirit. Great tours and fantastic snorkeling. A fabulous place to soak in the beauty and great culture of Raja Ampat The food was fantastic with great variety.
They go out of their way to make your stay memorable. Sadly we had to leave
- Mirko (10/5): A place to be!
- Frank (10/5): - Bungalows right on some of the best coral in Raja Ampat. Walking shark, cuttlefish fish, crocodile fish seen from the deck at night. And a huge moray that hangs out for scraps!
Food was great. Thanks for looking after us so well. A great experience down to the Archer Fish squirting your toes when sitting on your deck!
- Deborah (9/5): This place is a gem of a Homestay- beautiful, peaceful, amazing staff, lovely bungalows and tasty food. But the sea had - Amazing place. The trash in the ocean at Avin Sea was terrible- not their fault - but absolutely heart breaking.
- Caroline (1/5): Unfortunately: We can't recommend. Overbooking is not a good thing. But they do it. We still waiting for the refound - Attention: We booked for three nights, because the riff is great. But our stay was a desaster. When we arrived, obvisously they have been overbooked. Instead of the accomodation ("Luxury room at the seaside") they put us into a dark shitty hole between toilette and mongroves. No chair, no hammok, no view, nothing. There is no internet reception, so it was difficult to book a new place and we had to sleep there one night in the small room, smelling the scent of toilet. Avinsea charched us the full transfer, althought the owners went to Sorong by boat the next morning and our drive to Terimakasih Homestay (wonderful place!) was on their way. This is cheeky.
- Nicolas (9/5): Our best homestay in Raja - Greatest location
Amazing snorkeling (very amazing ! Best in Raja for us)
Good bungalows
No reception so total disconnection
Food is pretty decent ; they call everyone to say it’s ready so everyone eats together and this way very social and easier to connect with others Hosts hard to contact due to lack of connexion
- Jolanta (10/5): Beyond expectation, stay as long as you can - The best homestay and location we’ve seen and lived in during our multiple trips in Raja Ampat. The homestay has a fabulous house reef and is in front of the Citrus Ridge.
What makes Avinsea special is the owner’s family and people who help them in the homestay and with trips. We felt welcomed and taken care of like their friends, enjoyed every minute of our stay. Food was generous and most delicious, plenty of fresh fruit and snacks. All trips to snorkelling spots were well organised (we were most impressed by Yeben island), we even did night snorkelling with them we will never forget. There was always somebody from Avinsea snorkelling together with us – we felt safe and able to see the sea life we would have never spotted on our own (crocodile fish, for example). They collect plastic garbage from the Citrus Ridge, take care of the reef.
Stay as long there as you can. We are in another homestay now and missing the vibe of Avinsea. We will revisit this homestay during our next trips to Raja Ampat for sure. -
- Joona (10/5): Exceptional -

I can say only the best about this home stay.
We have stayed in the different places on Raja ampat, so we can compare with others. The Avinsea is the best. The homes are always clean and comfortable.
Janis, owner this home stay is very attentive and capable man. He is macho. He wanted make for us all our desires. He showed us all interested places with the boat. The prices were acceptable. My husband likes fishing. Janis tried to do the best for him. My husband fell in love with Janis.
Home stay is situated in that area where you do the best snorkeling and sea many fish, dauphins and even whales. All the best of this area we saw exactly here. All family is very kind and attentive: his wife Karson, his son Jose (he was taking us to mountains), his nieces Desi and Karoline ( they cooked delicious food). In the evenings they sung for all their tourists their songs. It was so touching. We fell in love this family.
We advised to Janis to write in booking.com “all included” not only breakfast, because we were fed 4 times a day although on the internet on their page indicated only breakfast.
If we have another chance to get there we would stay exactly in Avinsea.
