Guest Reviews
- Kathryn (9/5): It was an amazing experience as well as a comfortable stay. - The owner Juan is Mexican and was very welcoming. We had a wonderful Mexican breakfast although there was full English too. We had a fab room overlooking the amazing garden . We will certainly visit again . Nothing
- David (10/5): Outstanding delight. - The setting. The hosts. The animals. The Mexican Cantina. This is a destination. Lots to do in the area (Emily Hobhouse Experience, Looe, Polperro etc). What a lovely place. My wife and I loved every minute. Nothing.
- Petra (10/5): Ein außergewöhnlicher Aufenthalt mit einem einzigartigen Gastgeber. Danke Juan. -
- Noel (10/5): Excellent - no complaints at all! - The venue itself was beautiful, a stately home set in amongst very pretty tree-laden setting. The host was brilliant, totally obliging but not in any way obtrusive. Although it looks on the map to be close to a main road, that side is totally screened by trees and the building has very thick walls. We slept very soundly. Also, the breakfast was delicious! We really enjoyed our stay.
- Chloe (10/5): Very relaxing and enjoyable stay on the outskirts of Liskeard while in the area for a wedding - A beautiful country house with stunning grounds. We had such a nice stay here and felt very looked after. Great breakfast on offer too Nothing - we didn’t want to leave!
- John (10/5): Delightful host and majestic gardens. - Juan, the Majestic Mexican host, who went over and above to book us taxis when our hire car was damaged and we had to procure another in Plymouth. He is a darling, caring man who really enjoys hosting and meeting people from around the world. Freshly squeezed orange juice was a treat for our cooked English breakfast. He cooks Shakshuka too. The sweeping lawns, dotted with trees under which bluebells and daffodils flowered, were lovely. John’s wife Cassandra The plug in our bathroom 🙁
- Marthin M (9/5): Wonderful stay in this superb property in a wonderful Cornish setting. - The accommodation is a listed building in a large park-like garden and it creates a relaxing atmosphere. It is very quiet and in my room I couldn't hear any traffic or other noise. The bed and the mattress was very comfortable and I had good quality sleep during my stay. Although it is a period property the bathroom is beautifully refurbished and very modern. Juan prepared a delicious breakfast two mornings in a row. Moorswater Lodge is just a short distance from the historic site, The Story of Emily. I love dogs and didn't mind the two dogs of the hosts around the house but it may be relevant for people who have allergies or small children.
- Joanna (10/5): Exceptionally friendly clean and fantastic Mexican food - This is a hidden gem totally unique we will be back for sure…… everything is just perfect Nothing
- FrancescaCigna (10/5): Cute countryside mansion. - Very nice house in the countryside. Lovely hosts. Super welcoming. It's far from the city, or any stores or café.
- Andrew (10/5): Will definitely be going back. - Brilliant hotel. Attention to detail from Juan was exceptional. Room was incredible with a beautiful cooked breakfast both days. Mexican restaurant on site too. 100% recommend. Use of living room in house too. With drinks served from Juan. Could have done with a small chair in room amd electric charging on site.
- Fred (10/5): - The lodge is a beautiful Grade II listed building, a few minutes from Liskeard centre. We stayed for two nights. The room was clean and very comfortable. The food cooked by Juan is amazing. We had dinner there one night and the breakfast was perfect. The lodge is a little close to the main road but this is hardly noticeable.
- Sibthorpe (10/5): A hidden Gem. Just wonderful. - Josè. What an interesting, warm and wonderful human. The grounds are stunning. Our Kingsize was roomy and comfortable. Breakfast was great and if you like a cocktail. You will not be disappointed. Nothing.
- peter (10/5): Excellent - Everything was so good it is difficult to make a comment on,but the staff (owners) were really lovely and so nice and helpful Nothing to dislike
- Gavin (9/5): Excellent value for money, great hosts, relaxing and very clean property. - Juan ensured our stay was relaxing and he is an excellent host.
Nothing was any trouble and great service , excellent rooms and the breakfast was lovely. A relaxing and friendly place to stay within scenic grounds. Juan provided some home cooked Mexican food which was very nice also. Would definitely recommend.
- peter (9/5): really good place to saty - The host could not have been more accommodating. Very friendly, helpful and it was a real pleasure to stay there nothing would have made it better it was perfect as it was
- Carol (10/5): Superb - From the moment we arrived, we could not have been made to feel more welcome, despite arriving an hour earlier than we thought we would do. Juan was so welcoming and friendly without being intrusive and looked after us really well. I was travelling for work and my husband came with me so he spent the majority of his time in the house as well as going for a walk in the grounds. The drawing room is a beautiful and large room with the biggest TV I have seen in my life and we spent a lot of our time in there as it was such a lovely space. Our room was lovely as well, including a fridge, which we didn't expect, but which was very welcome owing to how my medication needs to be stored. Tea and coffee making facilities were included and there was a TV in the room as well. The bathroom was stunning with a rainfall shower, which I didn't want to get out of. There is an excellent selection of wines, which we also felt it rude not to try, and Juan cooked us two lovely evening meals. I was a bit dubious about Mexican food owing to my health condition, which means I can't digest anything containing chilli, but Juan cooked us some beautiful food and showed us what proper Mexican food is and it was delicious. He even went to the trouble of making salsa and salads with and without chilli so neither of us missed out.
Breakfast was also beautiful and cooked to perfection (we both had a full English) and the finishing touches on the table were super as well - candles for dinner and the flowers on the breakfast table,
In short, we had a lovely couple of nights here and I need to find time to go back when I'm not working so I can relax in the beautiful surroundings of the house and gardens. Absolutely nothing.
- David (10/5): -
- Robert (8/5): everything was just fine - spacious room, comfortable bed, walk in shower,
good breakfast. difficult to find the road entrance in the dark, needed to call to open the gates.
no terrestial TV.
- Claire (10/5): Very welcoming, clean beautiful room - Beautiful house and great location Nothing I could complain about
- Kathleen (10/5): -
- wheeldon (10/5): A delightful surprise - Beautiful country house, amongst wooded gardens and lake, run by a charming welcoming couple. The accommodation was excellent as was the breakfast.
This is a classy hidden gem.
P s I hate writing reviews Taxis in that part of Cornwall are notoriously difficult to book last minute and if driving isn't an option it could be difficult.
Book transport in advance if needed
- Simon (10/5): Perfect -
- Poppy (10/5): Lovely, clean hotel, would stay here again! - Really nice hotel, great location. The attention to detail was lovely. Friendly and welcoming host. The room was very clean.
- Annabelle (10/5): -
- Roger (10/5): A fantastic stay and a friendly warm welcome - The lodge was set in lovely grounds up a sweeping drive. We were greeted by our host Huan and their two dogs and a beautiful Egyptian cat. The room was comfortable, spotless and tastefully decorated, as was the marble bathroom. There was also a room downstairs for guests with an enormous TV and comfortable sofas. We both slept like logs and were treated with a delicious breakfast in the dining room, in keeping with the high standard of the rest of the lodge. Our only regret was only being booked in for one night. Much appreciated. It was a bit difficult to find, but well worth it!
- Matt (10/5): A perfect getaway for anyone - amazing hosts that made us feel right at home in stunning accommodation! - Our room was perfect - exceptionally clean and comfortable, and the entire property has been completed to an incredibly high standard. Nothing!
- Robert (10/5): -
- thomas (8/5): -
- Lindsay (10/5): - Everything, the location, attention to detail, friendliness of Juan, the host. He went above and beyond to make us welcome the evening before my daughter's wedding. The breakfast and accommodation were superb, he arranged pre wedding massages for us and all the taxis before and after the wedding for all our guests to various different places x exceptional We couldn't stay longer!!!!!
- Lindsay (10/5): - Absolutely perfect for my pretending night with my mother and sister x Juan accommodated everything and more x he went above and beyond being a host and organised so much to make my pre wedding night beautiful x forever grateful to a person I can call a friend xx
- Miha (10/5): Navdušena in super zadovoljna.
- Gary (10/5): Relaxing stay with great hosts, Paul and Juan made you feel at home and part of their family. Hopefully will be back aga - Wonderful property with lovely grounds and comfortable rooms. We also spent some time using the lounge and relaxing. Easy stroll to their Mexican restaurant..
- Stephen (10/5): It's a charming country house setting with beautiful grounds and welcoming hosts - The breakfast was lovely
- Sheppard (9/5): Nice setting with fantastic hosts, who made us feel welcome. - Lovely place, room great and a good breakfast to start the trip home. The Mexican street kitchen was a nice place to have some food, but don’t expect a large menu. I would imagine if it rained no food could be served so a trip to the town would be needed to get something to eat. We weren’t informed that they don’t currently have an alcohol licence which they are sorting out. If we knew we would have brought some bottles along….. but this isn’t a huge issue.
- Nicholas (10/5): Beautiful property with divine food - Exceptional hosts, beautiful property. Lovely breakfasts and amazing on site Mexican restaurant. It was perfect
- CW (9/5): -
- Edmund (10/5): Not long enough. - The accommodation was exceptional.
The room, the bed, and the breakfast.
The hosts, Juan and Peter very hospitable. Had a little difficulty finding the premises but I think the blame there
is our satnav.
- Nick (9/5): - Beautiful property brilliant staff lovely doggies decent restaurant on site Bathrooms a little tight for a taller bloke
- Richard (10/5): - The Location was fantastic. The old building had been tastefully brought up to date The staff were very friendly, the onsite outdoor Mexican restaurant was very welcome on a warm day. Being picky: lack of mirror in the bathroom.
- Andrew (10/5): A wonderful experience! - Stunning house in beautiful private grounds. Very charming welcoming hosts, lovely dining room, friendly dogs . Delicious breakfast. As we were travelling by train, it was slightly difficult to access.
- Fiona (10/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): Beautiful location- friendly host - Beautiful grounds and house. Host was lovely. Freshly cooked breakfast. Two friendly dogs- Frida was a sweetie Small thing but being able to get in gate at entrance myself after going out
- Sarha (10/5): Fantastic highly recommend - Fantastic setting fabulous host
- Geoffrey (10/5): Exceptional - Great breakfast, fantastic host.
- Christine (10/5): We would thoroughly recommend Moorswater Lodge and will definately visit again. - Beautiful house in lovely grounds. Juan is a fantastic host, making us feel so welcome. Nicely decorated, comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast. Good location for touring this part of Cornwall. Not too far from the Liskeard to Looe scenic railway and only a short drive to Tintagel. A little noise from the busy road but that didn’t spoil our stay. Overall nothing that we didn’t like.
- Sammie (10/5): Fab. - Juan could not do enough, and the Mexican Garden was a unexpected bonus. Loved Frida and Sara.
- Rachel (10/5): Welcoming, comfortable and amazing breakfast! - Juan the owner was so friendly and attentive. The room was perfect for our stay and we loved it! Nothing!
- John (10/5): Amazing - Amazing experience, Juan was so accomodating and thoughtful from the get go. Amazing service and amazing person in general. Would highly recommend!
- Adrian (10/5): Juan was a joy to be with! The house, grounds and food were absolutely outstanding. - Faultless experience form start to finish! The host, Juan, was a joy to spend time with. The facilities were outstanding as was the food and the grounds. We cannot rate this highly enough. It was perfect!
- Sarah (10/5): Wonderful relaxing stay. - Beautiful property, well furnished. Comfortable beds. Hosts very welcoming and couldn’t do enough. Friendly dogs a big bonus! All good.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - It's really a nice place. Juan was such a nice host and am interesting person.
I really also liked how friendly the Alsatian female dog was.... I really wanted to stay longer.... will defo be back
- Alistair (10/5): Stunning home and grounds, and the perfect host. Recommend highly. - The location is perfect, along with every other part of our stay. Juan called to check that all was okay with the booking just before the check-in window opened. Check-in was great, and we couldn't get over how amazing the home and grounds were. Also checked out the Mexican food stall near the entrance which we both liked, as it was open this date/time. Breakfast was cooked to perfection, for which we were when we would like to eat, and given background information on where many ingredients were(locally) sourced. We felt very well looked after. We didn't give ourselves more time here, so we will hopefully be back soon.
- Erna (10/5): Truly outstanding, 15 out of 10! - This is an absolute gem of a property. The hosts were incredibly attentive with a fantastic eye for detail. They were extremely friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, we have no hesitation in recommending this as a stay, you will not be disappointed. There wasn’t anything to dislike.

Not sure if breakfast was available?
- Richard (10/5): A stay not to be forgotten, in a good way! - Fabulous welcome, stunning building, beautiful interior decoration, great breakfast, kind hosts, extensive gardens, easy parking.
In fact perfect. They kindly let me play their beautiful baby grand piano. Highly recommend! Would have liked a bedside table and a bath, although the shower room was quite a fine experience!
- Marinella (10/5): A Gem of a Find. - Beautifully restored country house with splendid gardens. Could've spent a day relaxing in the many 'secret' sections.
Very clean, well equipped room with comfortable beds and great showers. Relaxed, calm atmosphere.
Friendly and helpful hosts who went the extra mile.
Would definitely stay again!
